Ides of March (15th)

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Ides of March (15th)

Postby IrishIroamed » Tue Mar 15, 2022 4:53 am

Mornin' ladies~~~

Up at o'dark 4am today. Ugh! It's the Ides of March. An old pagan(?) Holiday and we all know the saying about what happened on this date. But for more info you can read https://www.checkiday.com/53e8416bb5cc95b06fb89684c5694c12/ides-of-march

Roughly another month and I'll be back in the road. Major hurdle #1 is over. Closed on the sale of Dad's Florida condo yesterday. Woohoo!!!

I need to start booking campgrounds again. So far I'm covered thru July 5th. Next stop somewhere near Acadia NP.

Hope everyone is doing well. Be safe and enjoy your day.

Good Morning All, It is still dark outside, daylight time put my wake up time back into the dark but won't be long and that will change again. Flowers are blooming and the tulip poplar are just about ready to open. I don't think winter has left us yet though as we usually get one last snow around the end of March.

Cheryl so happy you are close to being back on the road again! I think your summer plan of going east sounds wonderful. I'm sorry I never made it to that area. I always anticipate the Ides of March with trepidation as over the years big changes in my life have frequently occurred on March 15th.

Carol I was surprised to read that gas was rationed anywhere! Sounds as though you need a good rest after your move back home. Judy I also think you should get another covid test that isn't the rapid kind as those frequently are wrong. I hope you are feeling better. I'm not comfortable taking off my mask but I see when I'm out that most people are not wearing one. Our area just moved from having very high cases to the medium stage so I think it is still risky.

Enjoy the day the first peek of light is starting so time to get on with the day the dogs will want breakfast soon.

Hmmmm, since today is the Ides of March, that’s why things went haywire in the neighborhood yesterday  Woke up to a cold house yesterday morning. Uh oh. Checked furnace and yep, not working. Made a call to my heating service folks, put some warm fleece on and had a bit of breakfast while waiting for the call that he was on his way. Meantime, found out gas company was down the road here, via a conversation on Chat with a neighbor. There’s a small gas pumping station down there. Not long later, They we’re going door to door to inform us that they had shut the gas off to the neighbor hood to repair a malfunction in the pumping station, hence all of us had no heat. Would let us know when repairs were completed and gas back on. Then they would come and make sure all our applianceses and mechanicals were operating. Right after that, my heating guy called and I told him what the issue was, so he didn’t need to come down. Then like all my neighbors, just sat and waited. Spent the time working on Genealogy, snuggled in my fleece and an afghan on my legs. It was early afternoon when they finished repairs and started the house by house checks. This neighborhood is a mix of full time and second homes, but the nice thing is, we all keep an eye on each other and some of us have keys to others homes, so once our homes were taken care of, we were able to get them into other neighbors homes to relite furnaces and whatever else was gas operated. So the majority of homes are heated now. Might be two or three that couldn’t be accessed, so they will have to deal with it when they get up here. I did call one that I know from talking with here ocassionally when thry are here, to tell her about their furnace being out. We are in private wells here and frozen water pipes can be a concern in winter with no heat, unless they are drained if the home isn’t occupied for long periods. Gas company left info at the doors. They stayed around till late afternoon to try to catch a few who were working and not at home. So much for Monday. A regulator went bad in the pumping station. Funny thing is, the whole thing is under a cover that’s about 3 feet high and maybe about same in length and width. And it brought a whole neighborhood down  At least I woke up to a nice warm house this morning. That was a classic case of the saying “we are all n this together”. And we were supposed to have gotten about 3 to 5 inches a very heavy wet snow yesterday which did not materialize here. I guess the powers ithat be, decided that we have suffered enough.

Carol, that was interesting being rationed for gas, unless maybe the station was running low and didn’t want to run out.

Cheryl, congrats on sale of your dad’s condo. Before you know it, you will have the house sold and be back on the road, sharing your adventures with us.

Sun is coming out, warm Weather is heading in, so things are looking good here. Still about a foot of snow here, but eventually it will be gone. We need the snow to seep into the ground to add water to the underground aquifers and water to the lakes. But we have not and will not make out annual snowfall totals. Didn’t last year either, but we had more snow this year than last. Might eclipse the 100 inch mark as winter isn’t through with us yet. Has to have that last hurrah. And in the far upper reaches of the U.P. they have had as much is 273 inches so far this year.

So I think I will go to town today and pick up a few things from the store. I’m kind of thinking that my fence guy may be here tomorrow since it’s going to be such a nice day. Thought maybe he would’ve come today but I guess not. Plus I need to cut and miter some moldings for my bathroom and tomorrow will be a good day for that because I have to go back-and-forth to the garage. So I guess I will get my act together and get my day moving here. Have a nice day everyone and stay safe out there.

Good Morning to All - managed to sleep until 6 this morning. We went to Walmart to get new battery for my car and stock up on groceries that we needed and wanted. Expensive trip. So no car runs and cupboards and fridge and freezer are full for a week or so.
Finally have all the laundry done and the RV parked in its temporary space. I'm hoping our mail will start coming back to our address today (when we travel it goes to a temporary change of address PO Box.) I changed the end date a couple of weeks ago - sometimes it goes without a hitch and sometimes not. Need to get all our tax stuff.
Taking it easy for a few days. Usually I don't feel my age, but this year after unloading etc. I feel every year of it. Oh well that too shall pass.
Going to be a nice day today up to 81 Bill's kind of weather. I talked to my walking group yesterday and told them I'd join them tomorrow morning. But yesterday did get in over 4000 steps, mostly in Walmart.
Has any one ever made meatless lasagna - Bill can't eat red meat any more and he also doesn't like ricotta cheese. And I'm craving lasagna. Saw one recipe using zucchini, carrots and mushrooms. Sounded kind of good.
Hope the weather gets better for all of you with rain and snow. Take care stay healthy. Going to order the home test kits as soon as our mail is straightened out. Just in case. About 25% of people in Walmart yesterday were wearing masks, me included. Most weren't. Makes me nervous.

Morning All, the sun is shining and 50-60° predicted for the week. Lettuce and tulips survived. Not thinking about the Ides of March I get paranoid about Rabbits. Looking forward to spending the day with youngest daughter just doing errands. Birds are building a nest in the Eve of the balcony so nice listening to them chattering. Management ask for pictures from our balcony so sent them pictures of tulips and lettuce containers. Looking forward to asparagus in the airfryer for dinner, might add potatoes and have vegetarian tonight. Be safe

Carol, how about making lasagna with white meat chicken? My family often made spaghetti sauce with chicken instead of beef, and we mostly preferred it that way. Can you replace the riccotta with cottage cheese or just mozerella?

Much less coughing this morning, but nose and sinuses are still really stuffed up. I take a sudafed each morning and took it late today, so have another hour before it will kick in. Sore throat is better also. Got a really long night's sleep, which always helps.

And today, the Ides of March, is my younger son's birthday! That was a good day when he was born, but back in those days because he was a C-Section birth, I did not see him until the next day. They don't do that anymore, thankfully.

Carol, my exes family, 100% Italian used Romano cheese and no ricotta. For lasagne they may have used cottage cheese. I used to make a meatless lasagna but can't remember what I used. Maybe eggplant? I know spinach was in there.

Yea, we got 1 1/4 inches of rain last night. Haven't seen water standing in the yard in a long time. It's suppose to rain again on Friday.

Carol, my sister makes lasagna using zucchini and her family likes it. She doesn't use a recipe, just throws together what she has. I don't know what kind of cheese she uses.

No plans for today other than trying to get started on my taxes. I will have to do 2 returns again because I only got the name changed on some of the accounts last year. I'll be glad when I get past all this. Estate income just gets transferred to me but I have to pay for two returns.

Good mid day to ya! :D

Yesterday was fairly busy at work and I made good tips! But why do I get the dirty old men telling me disgusting things?? Never had that happen at any other shops I have worked at. They leave me speechless and very uncomfortable. I try to change the subject.

Got up for putters golf this morning. Did pretty good today. Always nice to be out there in the sunshine, light breeze, surrounded by green grass, flowers, palm trees, lake with fountains and the mountains in the background! And good company of nice ladies having fun! :D

I bought my house for $75K almost 3 years ago. I figured by now it might be worth around $95K. I found out the prices here have gone way up and was told I could probably get $135K+ for it right now. Park models here are selling within hours of being listed. I am not planning to sell it, but it is nice to know it is worth that much! I got in here at the right time!

Pretty soon I will head to the clubhouse for our luncheon and more golf games. I am not planning much today in the way of working around the house. It is a "have fun and relax" kind of day. I bought a vine of faux sunflowers and a small bunch of faux sunflowers at Hobby Lobby the other day, so I did put the vine up on the light pole out by my driveway and stuck the bunch in the ground in front of it, earlier today. A little support for Ukraine. :(

In MN we could always count on a big snowstorm every March during the basketball tournaments. Seemed to happen every year but then March is typically the snowiest month of the winter.

Seems the Delta and Omicron have merged into the "Deltacron" variant now. So it is as contagious as Omicron and as strong as Delta. Hope that doesn't set us all back again. Even I am getting tired of wearing a mask all the time!

Have a good day! :D

I agree, Judy, if concerned, go to a actual medical center which does testing and can do the more sensitive testing, which is less error prone! They have at least 3 different options. My last test was specific for live virus only, to avoid a false positive due to my body shedding dead viral fragments. Rapid type, ESP home tests are only valid for a very short window, and if you miss their specific window, you could get false negative. Or, you could just have a cold, but, with your history, you need to be safe. You are well out of the anti-virals window, but they may have other suggestions to get you on road to recovery.

Barbara, I have no idea why the stupid news is bringing up so called Deltacron again. Suggest you go to Whiteboard Doctor and watch his video on it from over 2 months ago!

As for me , if in a crowded place such as store, I will continue to wear a mask. I really don't want to go through it again.

Carol, curious why Bill can't eat red meat? I have heard of using thin deli slices of turkey in place of the noodles for lasagna, but, since I no longer tolerate tomato products, and I haven't made a white sauce lasagna, I just don't play with any recipes.

I still have no idea what your LV station was doing in rationing gas. Have you checked local news or gas buddy app for answers?

Barbara, so nice you got out in fresh air and sunshine with nice weather! We had overnight rain, but I barely heard a few drops before going to sleep, though ground is wet, rain is apparently over.

Feel for those still in the snow season. So glad I live in a part of CA that only gets rain! No worries about winterizing RV or snow blowers!

Have a good day everyone.

I found a spinach crockpot lasagne online with no meat. Have used cottage cheese at times instead of ricotta. I make spaghetti sauce with ground chicken - not crazy about the texture, but I don't buy ground beef.

Cheryl, looking forward to your adventures coming back! Shirl, glad things are growing! Monica had a lovely vase of lilac colored tulips.

I'm having trouble getting back to life after the weekend. Fretting over the return of the phone doesn't help and a bit cloudy today. Think there must have been a fair amount of rain because snow piles are smaller. Received the Ireland tour itinerary today! At least getting a load of laundry done and some recycling out now that sidewalk is cleared!

oops I over slept!!! I heard the phone ring thinking it was the alarm but nope it was dd and it was after 11:00 usually up at 10;00 to get mom breakfast or as she says brunch .. happily she had taken her thyroid pill so we didn't have to wait so I hurried up and put cold cereal on the table and we ate...when I'm late like that it throws my whole day off :( read scriptures... then picked up fb should not do that finally went to the store that gal of milk just cost 55 dollars  that and everything else I was getting... happens when I go without a list I will forget some stuff... it was walnuts this time...
Carol have you googled beef less lasagna? I've heard of some of the suggestions... they sound good with my mom I try and serve meat at every meal and try going heavier on red meat... she is normally low on iron and get meat into her easier than veggies... she won't eat broccoli nor beans.... she is doing better taking her iron tablet though... I saw a recipe that looked good it was for a phooy can't remember the name of it but it had asparagus and another veggie.... cherry tomatoes olive oil and a block of feta cheese... roast that add zita pasta to it along with some of the hot water from the pasta it's Natasha's Kitchen look for creamy baked feta pasta... looked so good think she said that chicken could be added to it as well
got the cheese but none of any of the rest of it... going to make a lemon chicken with pasta though
got the cheese cause it's on sale so next week will get the rest of it
we are down to really low here in this area so see very few masks I still wear mine although I'd probably not if it was for mom do try to be more proactive than I think I would be
got a text from my sister in law telling that my brother is in the hospital... it's a case of I don't understand some things .... he has an order to get a transfusion on Thurs went in numbers too high he was 7.2 went in Friday numbers was 7.8 was really surprised that they went up and that much I am wondering in brother miss the right key... so of course he couldn't get it... Monday he is weak, dizzy, has a fever, and needs 2 units of blood... and is in the hospital till probably Thurs... his nitrates is it is way down although up now to 200 his immunity is shot so everyone that comes in has to gown up ect he said they won't even let him have ice as it might have bacteria on it... it just seems to me that if they had given him the transfusion on Thurs it wouldn't be as intense as it is now... so now mom is worried about him and the neighbor that was arrested for drug stuff was mentioned in the paper and she is worried about that... is there anything we should do just in case people come around I tried to reassure her that we are locked up and they didn't give the address just the street name although it wouldn't take much to figure it out... I think it's going to be a restless night for her.
need to go look at Barbie's gourd saw it on FB looks great but want to see it hear
you all take care...

I use whole chicken breasts and thighs for spaghetti sauce. Tastes better than ground chicken. Simmer raw cut-up chicken pieces in sauce.
