Up early Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Up early Saturday

Postby asirimarco » Sat Mar 12, 2022 7:53 am

Good Morning to All - Got home yesterday about 1:00. Both of us were up by 2:30 this morning. Working on putting away stuff we already brought in house and transferring laptop stuff to desk top. I set off our alarm yesterday when we came home! Forgot we had it set. Thought I got the code in in time - must have no police showed up. But last night an alarm guy showed up to make sure every thing was okay and it was really us. Then he reset out alarm box. One thing I don't have to do today.
Drive yesterday seemed really long only 214 miles but it was VERY windy. Bill had to fight to keep RV in the right lane. I'm not driving but I still get tired stress tired.
We didn't unload much yesterday so will have to get started pretty soon - ugh. But NO MICE - was so glad to discover that. And when we left I had really cleaned the house good, so just need to do some dusting. But that will keep. I think today will be nice, cool but nice. Felt good to be in own bed and have some where to sit besides dinette bench. We were gone 148 days. Think if we take any more trips they will be shorter.
Every one take care.

Good Morning, Carol, I'm happy to hear you and Bill are home safe and that you found no uninvited guests!

We had a fairly big snow yesterday but the roads and ground were warmer than usual so it looks strange out this morning with lumpy snow and patches of melt. I was going to meet friends for coffee but the idea of going out in 28 degree weather with strong winds to clean off my car nixed that plan. I'm glad the roads are good this morning. Emma was home yesterday and 2 days in a row with 3 dogs is enough! It wouldn't be bad except I still can't let the puppy loose with either of them. It is funny though to see Emma refuse to get on her favorite spot on the couch as at one end she would have to walk past Pippa's playpen and Toby is on his mat at the other end! Yes the big girl is not very brave.

Judy I think for you avoiding Florida is a good idea! Sheila I agree with Velda about the power cord!

Morning All, nasty dark rainy morning. Garden is covered with an old sheet and pushed back in a corner away from wind. Little excitement last night. The neighbor across the hall broke his key off in the lock and maintenance had to drill the key out. Noise was awful and shook the walls. A reminder for me to add the maintenance emergency night phone number to my cell. Just like a regular neighborhood, people gathered laughing and talking. Normal heavy Saturday traffic heading to nearby shopping center. I’ll close the blinds turn on an extra light and pretend it’s a nice day. Lol. Carol glad you and Bill are home safe and no critters. Be safe

Good morning Carol, BJ, Shirl and all who follow!

Carol, welcome home! I'm so glad you didn't have a mouse infestation while you were gone. BJ, with the weather you had, I like the idea of staying home. Shirl, I hope you'll share some more pictures of your lettuce.

Our high for the day was this morning was 75 and the temperature has dropped to 67 and will continue dropping throughout the day. By tomorrow morning, we'll wake up to temperatures close to freezing. Fortunately on Monday things will warm up. This is supposed to be the last cold front to hit us this winter.

Lots of people in the resort are starting to leave to head home, or wherever they go for the summer. With the fuel prices what they are, we're going to hang tight and are definitely not going to MD. In case you didn't know, we sold our home in MD and last week, the business that bought it burned the house to the ground to take the yard to increase the size of their field. Due to having been flooded 5 times during the 40 years we lived there, I'm sure to repair the damage was more than the house was worth.

Don't forget to spring forward tonight.

It did get down to 34 last night and is only up to 38 now. We had 40 mph winds last night and it blew all the junk off the porch. One of the vents in the brick around the house was out so the cats were under the house. I need to go get a roll of Gorilla tape to tape the vent in. I have two vents that keep falling out and I keep forgetting to get some tape. I went to Walmart yesterday to get some bulbs for the kitchen light. I just happened to have 2 bulbs in a closet and got the light changed the other day without killing myself. I know I shouldn't be on a ladder but that doesn't stop me.

Carol, glad you made it home safe and didn't have a mess.

They do make a short heavy duty electric cord and I think I have one in my camper. I had it in the old camper for some reason.

Irmi, I guess our weather is headed for Florida. Yesterday they said it would freeze tonight. Last night's 34 was cold enough for me. I'm sure you are glad you don't have to deal with the house in MD anymore. It is a real hassle to deal with my house here when we have hurricanes. I don't think the house would ever flood but the wind could blow it off the hill. We had bought the land 20 miles North in case we ever had to move but after Hurricane Delta I don't think 20 miles is far enough. They are building subdivisions in that area and I'm waiting for someone to want that land more than I do. I wonder how the price of gas is going to affect the price of RV's and the number of people camping. Right now it's hard to get a site in some of the state parks. I hate to have to plan so far ahead if I want to go somewhere.

Made the big decision yesterday to inform the scoring center that I have worked for seasonally for the past 12 years that I regretfully will not be able to work as the Assistant Scoring Director on their project scheduled for 5 weeks starting in the middle of April. I was initially tempted by the paycheck it would bring in and had accepted. They emailed me yesterday and offered me some additional time starting next week doing some of the preliminary prep work and (though I knew that I had already made plans for next week) the offer made me face the main facts: At this time I still do not have the stamina or energy to work full time 5 days a week. With sleep patterns off so much, I also have no desire to try to make myself wake up early every morning. There was a time that I would and could push through most everything my body complained about but after the last year and a half my body is no longer willing to listen to anything my brain tries to convince it off. As you might imagine, Lark is thrilled to know that I will not be rushing out the door at 7 something every morning for 9-10 hours. I really do like the work and the people I work with at the center. The individuals are diverse and interesting and the work always make us think and challenges us, but I realised that the center might not be too keen on my frequent affinity for naps by mid day. So..... my spring will have time for dog shows and maybe a few short trips before the heat of summer. Will keep my options open and remind the dogs that while we can still afford their food they will need to hold back on their impulse buys.

Tina, that hard decision has to be a relief. An easy chair, a pup by your side sounds wonderful.

Lots of interesting news on here these past few days. Looks like a lot of hard decision making going on. A few more coming off the road to settle down and maybe just do short trips or hang up the keys altogether depending on one’s circumstances. But no matter if it’s age, health, financial or just that you feel it’s time, we can all look back in the memories of places and people we have seen and met. And the friendships we have made on here. As the saying goes, times change and we with the times.

Tina, sorry you decided to give up the scoring job, but like you said, when one’s body makes the decision, one has no choice. But in the long run, the pups will love you for it and you can pursue other venues. Martha, I hear you in the crowded parks and early reservations. It’s one reason among others that I finally decided to sell my trailer. I also got tired of more people, kids, bikes cars etc. There’s a different breed of : camper out tbere now too. I love to walk as you know, but having to get off the campground roads for cars coming through, people on bikes and so forth was getting to be not so much fun. I have roads running between lakes and through wooded subs which are way more peaceful and trails in the woods where the dogs can run free. Boils down to, I live where people come to vacation, so I’m enjoying what I have.

Carol, glad you and Bill made it home safely. Sorry this was your last Mexico trip. Now you will have to keep us up on your life in Vegas, even if you only paint the bedroom pink or something  I have neighbors who winter in FL and I think this is their last winter down there too. His age, the long drives back and forth etc., are playing factors.

Rita, was glad to see you post. Miss them. You can always find something to post about. Most of us are on just dsy to day stuff, but it makes life interesting and we share a lot of things as you know. Winter is hanging on here too. Been having snow showers all day. But after tomorrow will be heading for a nice warm up. Typical March weather. Freeze, thaw, thaw, freeze, sun, snow, rain, warm, cold, etc.

So I’m working on woodcrafts and Genealogy f or now. Need to cut and miter new mouldings for my new bathroom floor, but waiting for it to warm up a bit so I can work in the garsge. But right now, Molly is insisting we go for a walk. So……..

Sue, I was wondering where you were. Thought maybe you were adding a room on your house. Cooking beef stew in the crockpot. Snow is really coming down. I will let you know if I still think it is pretty tomorrow.

Oh, Tina, I so understand your decision and the reasons behind it. I'm hoping my decision to manage this motel this summer doesn't do me in. My initial plans were to only take volunteer positions after last summer. I know it's good for me to continue being active, but on a smaller scale. It's hard to admit that I was tempted by the money. That said, I'm not looking forward to 7 am starts regularly and on calls all day with closing the office most nights. I'll see how it goes. And however that is it's all me who made the decision. I admit I was hoping I could have someone else do the openings, but the owners want it to be me. I should have confirmed that first. And maybe I'll be able to convince them after we get going. I convinced them that one of the people hired will definitely learn the office. So that's one step!

Martha, your weather is almost a mirror of mine, you're 1/2 a day to a day later. It's warming up today some and should be good again starting tomorrow. Problem is the winds. My fingers are crossed that I'll be able to drive everyday starting a week from Monday. I'll slow down even more than normal and stay off interstates, but I hate the winds. I may have to change my habits and get up early to try to avoid them.

A cold front went through today at noon and I am on my way to Myakka SP for four days. Current temp is 64 in mid Florida. Low will be 46 tonight and 50 next night with days still warm, so that will slow mosquitos down. Got to pick some stuff up in Venice at lawyers on Monday and then to Midway for week. After that I am heading to GA where it is cooler. Bites are less itchy and only a couple still sting. Prednisone does the job.

The time has come for real retirement for a lot of us. One day, you just know it is the right time. I am still staying on the road but moving more slowly and will know when I need to stop. Good decision, Tina.

Hey Martha, I could tell how cold it was in your neighborhood by seeing the coaches bundled up for the LSU softball game.
My other daughter is coming over tomorrow to have lunch with us and to learn about some easy maintenance things Val wants done on the condo while she is gone.
I had the oddest charge on my Visa card. $119 for some special dog food from Florida. The bank took the charge off my bill, but they canceled the card. Now I have to wait for a new card to come in the mail.

that is too bad Lyn it just makes one so angry to know that someone had some way of using your card...
been working on laundry today... and made brownies kids are coming tomorrow so thought that would be a good dessert... had a taste of a brownie last fall got the recipe so finally made it today plus another just a box mix with added nuts to it... mom likes nuts in her brownies... as does one of my dd's where the other one doesn't care for nuts... takes after her dad.... need to run down and put laundry in dryer and bring up what is dry.. hopefully I have enough meat almost called the girls to ask them to pick up another piece of pork but didn't I keep telling myself that we have salad as well as broccoli so hopefully everyone will get enough to eat...
according to the phone we were actually warmer today think I saw it at 37 which is pretty nice...
actually very nice...
That may have been a good decision Tina... my youngest kept wanting me to get a job and my thoughts were why???? I might take a job that someone else really needed... and quite frankly I didn't want to work...
hope all are safe have read about tornado warnings in Florida
you all take care
off the the basement I thought today if I fell down there it would be a long time before mom would realize that there was something wrong... we will hope I am not clumsy
