Sunday March 6

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Morning All, it’s 61°and lightly raining. #1 daughter wanted to have a cookout today but weather might cancel. I will be so glad to switch to daylight savings so I have longer driving time. I don’t drive at night. Think there are bills pending in Maryland and surrounding states to make daylight savings permanent so hope it passes. Did nothing yesterday except a load of laundry and sat on the balcony in the sunshine. Be safe

Jane and I are at a dog show in Talmadge, Ohio, camping in the RoadTrek. We didn't achieve much yesterday other than supporting other English Cockers in the ring, but today is another day. And well maybe we should have practiced more. My gastro Doctor listened to me last week and I will be having some tests done. I ignored stuff before I got so ill and just thought it was aging. I am not willing to accept some of this without further exploration. I remember what happened last time. Time will tell. Here is to watching some beautiful dogs and visiting with folks I haven't seen for awhile and resting between all the excitement.

Anyone who feels slug like is invited to PM me and we can swap the stories that don't get posted..... Like I painted the top part of the basement stairs when I moved in 30 years ago and no that basement has never been painted completely and I have never repainted that first part. But I have an RV and dogs and I don't sit around and look at it very often. Well that and the basement seems to take on water ever 8 years or so, to there isn't much down there but the washer and dryer. With all the rain in Ohio last week the basement took on a good 6 inches. If the house is lucky we will be okay for another 8 years......

And remember I have no recipes to swap, I would have to actually have some cooking skills to do that.

Good Morning. 37° and down from 41° when I got up. We just had a storm come through that dumped a mes of freezing rain and rain through the state. The majority of the freezing rain was in the upper peninsula but last night, those of us in the lower had a heck of a mess of rain and even some thunder and lightning. I don’t think there was any here but some areas did report it. But the rain left a big mess behind in there is water all over the place on top of the frozen ground. This kind of stuff is dangerous this time of year because the back roads and snow-covered surfacesare turning into skating ranks. Supposedly we are supposed to have some snow tomorrow which would be good because it will at least put a little bit of a layer on top of the ice and make for a better walking. My yard as you can see is a ice-skating pond or will before long. It is also extremely windy with gusts up as high as 40 miles an hour..
Image

I am not going out of the house today and the dogs are going to have to tread carefully out there. Fortunately there is a snowbank along the back of the house from the deck and they can walk on that down into the yard. Tuesday and Wednesday it is supposed to be sunny and in the 30s maybe maybe lower 40s, so that will help melt some of thi down. So, Pat, your weather came through here and now I unfortunately have to hand it off to O’Sharon. But given the climate that she has, it will probably be rain. And I do not think she has any snow on the ground right now, do you? You might also be interested to know that we just had the Ordination and installation of our new Bishop here. He is a native of Scranton.

Judy, I was reading something the other day about bugs and stuff. It was mentioned that Wearing a light weight pair of wind pants over your shorts or whatever will help keep them from biting you. It might be something that might you want to consider when you are out walking in the warmer climates.

Regarding the safety of retractable dog leashes, I just read an article on thrm not long ago., They are really are not the best thing to use. If you are walking your dog and one of those leashes and do not have it locked, your dog can lunge at somebody or something before you have a chance to react. Once this happens you cannot get it wound back up and you cannot use your hands to pull on it because you can cut your fingers. It also said that even if it is locked in place it does not mean that it will hold. A strong enough dog givin the right circumstances can literally break that lock regardless. And if for some reason you accidentally drop it m it becomes a flying missle, heading straight for your dogs head. Vet’s do not like them because they are constantly pulling on the dog’s trachea if they are wearing a collar. I used them one time and I will not do it again. I would much rather use a good webbed leash that I can just hold in my hand, and control my dog way better.

I got tbe floor washed in my basement yesterdsy, exciting news, huh  That finishes up my basement. It’s really nice going down there and having everything so freshly painted and clean and light. So, the indoor house projects that I had lined up for the winter are done except for my bathroom flooring which is being installed tomorrow. Now I am going to work on some wood craft things and do some Genealogy and just putter around with that stuff until the weather allows me to get outside. I do want to get my kitchen a really good cleaning though. And my fence guy will be getting back to working in the fence on the nice days.

Gas here is reported to be at $4.19 now. They said on Friday that it was expected to go up by Monday so I went to the gas station on Saturday and topped off my gas tank and got my truck washed. Glad I did. At that time with my $.10 a gallon discount I paid $3.77 a gallon.

Time to quit chattering here and get myself often to something here. So you all have a nice day and stay safe.

Tina, I moved in this house 16 years ago and I thought the walls were painted. A few years ago I was going through the paperwork that came with the house and found out that the walls were just primed. Well, they are still just primed. I think Sue would have already painted the whole house several times. Everyday I have big plans but don't get much done. Good luck at the dog show and hope you don't have more medical issues going on. At least you are out having fun.

We are suppose to have rain tomorrow and Tuesday so this afternoon I'm going to load the mower and go mow in Maurice. The grass isn't too bad yet but want to stay ahead of it. If we get a lot of rain that yard gets very boggy. If I can ever get that trailer cleaned out I hope to get rid of it. Just hope the mower will start.

Sue, that looks cold. It's 77 here and will probably go to 80. I can hear the wind so it's very windy here.

Good day all. It’s a balmy 63 right now on my back porch! We just had a rain blow through awhile ago and now the wind has picked up. Sue, I think you’re correct and we will have more rain then ice this round! I’ve had enough of the icy driveway and yard. I’m hoping that any snow still left on shady spots will melt today since it’s forecasted to by close to 70. But by Tuesday the temps go back down so I need to enjoy today if it dries out some. Rascal and I did go for a little walk yesterday and will maybe get one in again today if our spot dries out a bit. Tina, hope everything is okay with your health but so happy that you’re feeling good enough to be out and about. Luck with today at the show. I’m not crazy about the time change next week either but do enjoy the extra hour of daylight. And it does mean warmer weather is just around the corner! Sue, you do make me jealous of all you get done in your house! I have paint to do some painting upstairs but it still hasn’t gotten done despite my good intentions! I just always find something else to do and it just doesn’t get done! At least that’s my excuse! I need to find something to fix for lunch and get going with something today. For sure I need to try to pick up the back yard from all Rascal’s deposits! Have a good day today!

Mornin' ladies~~~

Not quite noon yet, so I really am posting in the morning for a change.

Been bored to tears here. Dad's house is empty except for bed to get rid of when I hit the road. I'm to the point I really need to start thinking about an emergency landing place or where I may want to be a snowbird or permanent resident "whenever". Looked at a really nice open floorplan townhouse here that will be under construction, which would be close to family (executor, medical POA, etc), but the only way I'd buy it would be to keep my Texas domicile so I don't get hit with the yearly IL state tax. Time frame for build/move in is 2023, so I've got some time to think. And it would be OK for being a snowbird, going somewhere else October thru March. I just don't want to pay that much. I could buy 2-3 other places in TN or AZ (the only states I've Googled so far) for the price. It's nice to make my own decisions, but sometimes it's pain in the arse when you just want someone's thoughts and opinions, although my cousin looked at the townhouse with me yesterday, and she likes them, but arghhh! I hate thinking this hard!

Finally seeing multiple robins. 70s yesterday, and chance of snow tonight. Ah, Spring in the Chitown burbs. :P Tina I answered your PM.

Have a good day ladies. swak (do you remember that?)

Forgot I had a comment on flexi-leashes. Specifically, " you cannot use your hands to pull on it because you can cut your fingers". I've also read where the corded leashes can amputate a dog's tail. It depends on the type of flexi. I've used these leashes for a long time; however, I only buy the heavy-duty one (50-100# (overkill for 26# Punkin)) because they are made with regular webbed leash material, not the cord. More than once I've had to grab the leash, at the same time retracting, due to lose dogs and idiots in campgrounds that don't know how to drive and come into the grass. Also, I do not attach to a collar, but to a harness, so there isn't the worry about hurting the dog's trachea.

That being said, to each their own. Train your dog, watch for threats and they are a nice option for allowing your dog some room to roam and sniff all the good sniffs.

OK, I'm off my soap box. ;)

It's bright and sunny and in low 50's here, so far. No breeze at moment, but past few days have been quite breezy, setting off my motion detector camera every few minutes, even though it's set for lowest sensitivity! Yesterday was my best day in almost a month, since I got the virus. I slept 9 hours friday night into Saturday and just had more energy and felt clearer headed , finally. Had found Friday that battery on PT was depleted, but just couldn't deal with it then. Yesterday went to pickup and retrieved my smart charger and managed with son to squeeze the tight clamps and get them on, and to get charger going. I realize putting a battey charger on seems like child play to many, but its just not something i did, as it was Mels thing, plus electricity scares me! So felt like a big achievement that Chris and i managed without calling someone. I let it sit on float and Monday will run it over to Les Schwab who have the new battery reserved for me. Still has 3 mo on 60 mo warranty, but having sat so much over pandemic is hard on batteries, so will just replace it, for peace of mind. Mel would have just charged it and said wait until it truly dies, but I really don't want to get stuck sitting in a parking lot waiting for AAA or late to an appointment. Gas here, by the way, went up 20 cents from Friday night to Saturday morning and now lowest (Costco) is $4.65 -- was $4.38 Friday and $4.58 Saturday! Good thing I don't drive much! Highest price in area, always Chevron is now $5.79 though one place reportedly charging $7.39, I'm doubting that report as its a local quick mart place in Sacramento. We have been enjoying watching the Para Olympic games on our upgraded Roku channel. My plan after battery tomorrow, is to get back to Med7 to hopefully get a negative test result and get it in writing so I can go back to Curves by Wednesday. Then I need my chiropractor to get the kinks out from all tne laying around. My Rt shoulder has felt out of place for almost a week! Chris too has recovered and is feeling much better. Both cats and Suzie the parrot are doing well!
Judy have you a mesh insect protection shirt to wear? I have read they work and can even get pants of the mesh.
Have a good week everyone.

Cheryl, I am posting my two cents. I have a lot of family and was a part time river so our situations are different. I’m 85 and thinking back what if I didn’t have family. I would want to buy in a community where I could stay while still traveling. Establish relationship with neighbors, management or had services near by in case needed for health reasons. I love this apartment but during the pandemic so wanted to walk out my back door into a yard to empty trash, pickup mail or just sit in the sun. I would want one floor and a walk in shower. Don’t know where in Tennessee but saw a video of a rv community that sells land.

If I had painting to do, it would never get done! I have plenty of unfinished projects though. :)

It's another sunny day. So grateful! Finally decided I shouldn't trust getting back and forth over the pass next week so I made train reservations. BFF's birthday is the 12th so will go 10th-13th. Only drawback is 6 a.m. train out of here.

Velda, I'm with you when it comes to batteries, but thanks to You Tube, I've managed changing them more than once. Cheryl, I'm with you on the 'hard thinking'! It has become a problem since I moved in here. Having a sounding board helps - I'll start telling Monica my dilemma and reach an answer before I finish. Shirl, with warmer weather, I need to develop a routine of getting dressed so I can have my coffee on the patio. If gets SE sun, but by the time I get it together, the sun has moved on! Looking forward to daylight savings so afternoons are 'longer'.

I'm going to make yet another attempt at more organizing in the office/sewing room today.

Cheryl, I'm going through a lot of the hard thinking, also. The two friends I had in Benson have moved and while I love having the casita I'm discovering maybe this area I'm at in Texas might be better for me. Both work out financially. I don't want to give up the casita but.... Anyway, no decision will happen for a bit. And continuing to travel will happen either (or even another) way. I have signed up to return to this park in Texas next winter. It's laid back, small, friendly people and I like the area and things to explore. After next winter I'll do another check list lol. I have good relationship with medical near in both places. I want to keep my SD residency because of costs.

I'll be stopping in Port Aransas Texas. First stop when I leave here to visit friends. Since they completely retired they've moved 3, maybe 4 times. They discovered being near family wasn't as important as loving where they are, so I think this move might be their last. I'm interested to see their new location.

Oh, Cheryl, the leashes with those cables should be banned. They are almost as dangerous as the cable tie outs so many use. And I've seen people use the tie outs to walk dogs! Your rant is on the money.

Velda, awesome that you're feeling better!

My problem with the mosquitos is that I know I should wear long, light colored long pants and I even own a head net, however, what happens is that I am lazy and end up not doing tasks until late afternoon. Then, I figure I have enough time before dark, so go out in my shorts (lazy, remember) and end up spending more time out there than I had planned. A couple of times I have gotten involved in conversations or ended up doing more tasks than I had planned on, and it gets dusk sooner than I had planned.

I need to do things like adding water to my tanks and putting stuff away earlier, and also make sure I slip on my long pants before I go out. Strangely enough, I almost never get bitten on my arms or face, even though I wear short-sleeved shirts. They really, really like my legs, so the long pants are my solution--I just need to follow through.

Drove to Sebastian Inlet SP this afternoon and stopped for a Blue Beacon truck wash. It usually takes an hour to wait in line, and today was no different, but I plan it so I can eat something while creeping up along with the other trucks. But my motorhome is shiny clean, except they did not rinse the back end quite enough so tomorrow, I will take a damp rag on the end of a long pole to wipe off the streaks. Campsite here is really uneven, so I had to put one set of rear wheels on two layers of boards, but at least I can get satellite TV. Just need to watch out for raccoons, as this is where one got into one of my compartments and tried to set up housekeeping a few years ago! Had to evict her, but not before she had torn up half a role of paper towel into tiny pieces.

This is a nice place across the road from the ocean with lots of interesting places to walk to or ride my bike to. The beach was the site of a famous treasure ship sinking in the 1700s, so there is a small museum nearby.

I have screens for my drivers and passenger doors. I have to put the key in on auxiliary to open and shut the windows. I know I need to start the engine occasionally. Ha, I can't remember the last time I started it. So I closed those windows, took the key out and all of a sudden lights on the dash were dimly flashing. Yep, my battery is dead. I'll go check with the manager tomorrow and see if I can get a jump. If not I'll call my roadside service. I still have the original battery so it might be time to think about replacing it soon. Meantime I'm kicking myself and laughing at myself for allowing this to happen.

it's been a quite peaceful Sunday...
can't say much more than that..
Tina I hope that there are any big health issues going on... and glad that you are out and about...
I've decided in some ways reruns on Hallmark are ok tonight I finally saw the whole movie been missing the first 1/2 hr for some reason... didn't tonight... of course I've seen the rest probably 4 times since it came out what a month ago???
my husband was very cautious of the sun due to his light coloring and the fact he had had some skin cancer as did his dad and then a Melanoma always wore regardless the time of day or the season or the heat long sleeves and long pants.. some times even a scarf around his neck... might need to just just the long pants people Judy.... that way you don't need to remember
the storm missed us.. got a bit of snow last night... but not any today or at least not that I've been aware of
while I was crocheting kept catching my yarn on my thumb think I finally found the reason... need to take something to it..
Cheryl perhaps you can find a place like Liz found...
My plans at this time in life is to continue to go to Q only I hope to buy a place instead of towing and my one of my dd's and husband are building a house they have proposed that another dd and I finish the basement and we can live there... I don't know how long they will live in the house but they said when they no longer are that they will be renting it out not selling it... so we will continue to have a space of our own..
you all have a great day

Only reason I won't attemp this PT battery on my low is logistics. Battery is under air cleaner and requires removal of 2 big hoses, each with clamps requiring tools to loosen, plus several cables, and 2 boxes, one of which contains the air cleaner. This year model at least they out cut out in air cleaner so you can reach positive terminal. The negative is fully under the air cleaner so they have a bolt on front you use as negative. Stupid design and I'm not getting out sockets and trying to dismantle, when I can pay Les Schwab guys I know $20 to do it and they get to lift the 40 lb battery in and out of that deep small space!
Judy, I heard years ago that if you take extra B vitamins, it repels skeeters. Have you heard or tried that?
