Sunday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunday Morning

Postby Colliemom » Sun Feb 13, 2022 10:25 am

Morning from the 45th. 2°, was down to -18 when I got up Nice thing is, we had a beautiful day yesterday which is usually what happens when we get this kind of cold. We are getting down to the time of year when this kind of weather is going to become less and less. In fact you can feel the sun getting warmer.

I am sitting here killing time, waiting for them to show the US Women’s Aerials qualifier. Supposed to be on this morning but so far it’s not. We are all waiting to see how our local gal does. I want to get back to the basement and continue on with my painting that I started yesterday. I don’t have a recorder or I would have recorded it. But on the other hand being that we don’t know for sure exactly what time it’s going to be on it’s kind of hard to record.

Judy, how exciting to get a cottage that was family and get to go dig for more records. I keep saying I should try to trace my grandfather on my dad’s side back. I love history and it would be fun. Guess I should get Ancestry and get busy. My dad thought that it would be hard to trace because he was born in southern IL and back then, people didn’t always keep records. I do have my grandfathers and great grandparents names though. I remember him say that an uncle was a preacher who went around on horseback to different town. So it’s a start. I know where my grandparents on mom’s side are from in Belgium.

I suppose a few of you will be watching the Super Bowl today. Lots going on between that and the Olympics. I might watch some, but not the half time. Hip hop is not my thing.

So, goi g to sit and wait for aerials and head to the basement after. Have a nice day all.

Good morning!

Sue, hope you got to see the aerialist competition. I've been frustrated trying to find specific sports even though I have recorded them! I think you might be surprised at the records kept especially church records. Census records are a big help.

Martha, I should have made notes about all the conversations I've had that started because of the Sling. I can't think of anyone I know down your way with a Sling. :) I did have a couple Louisiana friends, but one sadly passed away and the other moved to North Carolina after the hurricane in Lake Charles. However, one never knows. I was Googling for my old blog one day using adventure4me, which is my name on the Sling forum. Lo and behold, there I was mentioned on a forum I didn't even know existed!

Sheila, I'll be going to Hope, Missouri, in Osage County. It's a hour north of Rolla so send me the info, please! There are pictures of Boyd stones on Find a Grave.

I will be going to the kids' to watch the Super Bowl. Monica is making chili and Alan is making cornbread. I'm fixing an appetizer that I haven't made in years.

After all the playing I have done, time to get back to chores - ugh!

Good morning. I had some motivation this morning. Put all my Christmas decor away, flattened my cardboard boxes, made 2 small pans of Lasagna and a pot of chili. Now I am kind of wiped out so back in the recliner for a bit. Then have to put all my bathroom towels, rugs etc away for the construction tomorrow. Will take a shower tonight because I dont know if they do one bathroom at a time or attack them both LOL

I want to get my chores done early here so I can just sit and relax and watch the super bowl. Not too sure about the half time show but I will have it on anyway. I dont really care who wins the super bowl but since the Bengals haven't been since 1988 I like to root for the underdog unless I have a favorite team playing. We shall see.

Afternoon All, cold and fine snow falling, 1-3” predicted. Tried to post a video of animals in the snow but couldn’t. No super bowl for me but did find and watched the 2022 Budweiser comment which always gives me goose bumps. Have a new library book on the kindle so will snuggle under the down throw and spend a quiet day. Dinner is a warm up shrimp and broccoli and won ton soup. Be safe

Rained a lot of the night. I got up and made a reservation in Colorado for August, and then went back to bed. I really love my new mattress that was so hard to get, and nothing like waking up and just staying in bed to watch TV or read from my Kindle! I also have my down comforter on the bed now, so that always feels really good as well.

It looks like the rain is ending, so I am going to do one last load of laundry today. Campground is very quiet now because the weekenders have left, so it is mostly us old folks and with the rain, everyone is indoors. I made five pasties yesterday, and ate one, which means I have four frozen. I really like them and while they take a long time to cut up vegetables, make pie dough, roll out pie dough and cook them, it means having four ready-made entire meals I can just take out and microwave or heat in the oven. Worth the effort!

Barbie, you could really make some money from your talent in decorating gourds!

Yesterday there was rain that went North of me and South of me but none here. It's really getting dry so hope we get some of the predicted rain on Thursday.

I was digging in the freezer looking for some meat to cook for dinner and found some country pork ribs. I baked them with BBQ sauce. Since the oven was on I had to bake some cookies. Just hope I can keep from eating them all today.

Karen, I think making Lasagna is a lot of work. I have my brother's recipe somewhere. I think about making it sometimes but it makes so much I would be eating it for a long time. I guess I could freeze it in single servings. I am still working on all the soup that's in the freezer.

I am watching Howards End on PBS. I had seen some of it before but not from the beginning. It's a good show.

Martha my lasagna is super easy. I use 5x5 dishes, RAO's jarred spaghetti sauce, 2
lasagna noodles per dish, I freeze cooked hamburger so took some out, and a bag of Mozarella. Cook the noodles. Put 2 per dish, the extra hangs over, add sauce to the bottom of the dish, place the noodles, add a little more sauce (I am skimpy with the sauce), add hamburger, add the cheese, fold the noodles over that, repeat some sauce, hamburger and cheese. I put a few toothpicks in, cover with tinfoil, cook for 30 minutes, remove tinfoil, cook another 20 minutes, let cool a bit. DONE I dont use ricotta or cottage cheese. Easy peasy.

Karen, your lasagna sounds easy. My brother made his own sauce which he cooked all day.

Karen, I just discovered Rao's spaghetti sauce! So delicious & your recipe does sound simple. I'm going to have to try it sometime.

Judy, there isn't anything better than languishing in a cozy, warm bed in the morning. Yours sounds lovely. So excited about you getting that cottage booked - can't want until you report back on that adventure.

My brother has done extensive tracing of our dad's ancestors (Scotch/Irish) & we have some documents from our mom's maternal family about her French side. I just got it out recently & discovered that 96 family members decided to leave France all together in 1866 due to the unbearable conditions for the common people. They all got on the same ship & sailed to America. Must have taken such courage!

As far as naming traditons go, I'm the 5th generation Catherine - although I was the only one that actually went by it. I didn't know that when we named our first daughter so thankfully we got another chance with our youngest - as her middle name. She is the one that is in France now & I think is finally happy to have that name.

Well, time to straighten up stuff & think about going to bed. :D
Take care,
Catherine

Anita I will have to look it up it's one the maternal side of Larry's family and right now cause I haven't looked at the information in a long time the name is escaping me... cause it's the paternal side of the maternal side  I even have his son's cast iron skillet in the trailer but I'm so not remembering it... the grandfather in MO came from NJ and his father supposedly is a sea captain out of one of the Carolina's but I've not been successful in finding him...
drat Murder She Wrote is continued on to the 11 o'clock hour I usually go to my room at 11 so hopefully I can be sleeping by 3 ugh either I will have to not get on FB or forgo something....
Judy what type of mattress did you get I really need to replace mine although if no one is sleeping on it why bother... but when I get back to my trailer do need to do something about it...
usually read yahoo news some you have to read with a grain of salt but tonight there were a couple of ones that just made you shake your head... one lady invited a homeless person to come in and take a shower he slashed her neck and was arrested for aggravated assault... would have thought at the very least attempted murder... and the other one I can't recall
the house is back to normal cold!!!! I so enjoyed being warm yesterday
Barbie you will enjoy your Thunder Drum... I actually won one well bid for it and won the bid but didn't like the decor on it nor the fact it sat on a stand I would rather have one that hangs... so I gave it to my dd don't think she ever had it out...
the other day my sister in law gave me an idea of where I can put a air fryer... now to get my act together and get one as well as find a stand to put it one one of those rolling ones...
you all have a great night

Anita, I remember when I was watching out the store window in Keystone and saw the line of Slings coming, then pulling into the gas station and running out. I probably scared the guy in the one closest to the entrance asking where Anita was. You, of course, were furthest away. But I was so excited to see you and your group even for that short time. I can only imagine the stories you could tell.

I just got into bed. Now if I can maybe get to sleep early tonight. That is the million dollar question. Fingers crossed.
