Thursday Already!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Thursday Already!

Postby Colliemom » Thu Feb 03, 2022 11:38 am

Morning. Guess everybody’s sleeping in. Time’s flying by. Seems like it was just New Year’s and then it was Feb. 1st and now it’s Thursday already,

My day is a bit messed up but a little productive, if you want to call spending money productive :) First off, got a call from the flooring store. She was going to come measure bathroom for the new floor, but wanted to know if tomorrow would be okay. No problem. Been doing business with them for a long time. Then got 2 quotes from fence installer who came out yesterday to see what I wanted done and measurements. One was for new chain link fencing and the other to move and tighten my existing fence, add about 12 more braces and install two new 5 foot gates. Going with that. Proposal as about $2000 cheaper than the chain link and my current fence is almost invisible as the wire is green and blends into surroundings. Going to have it moved back 20 feet along the back yard and the dogs will have more yard space now that the forestry mulching project from last fall cleared all the brush and other stuff out. Piper will have a blast chasing squirrels up the trees for sure now. Thought he would schedule it for early spring, but can do it next week  :) He has a machine that can do into frozen ground and we don’t have much snow. Just have to wait for MISS DIG to come out on the 8th and mark my underground utilities. Then snowblower dealer called, blower is fixed, paid him over hone with charge card. They will let me know hen they bring it down. He’s just as apt to call me from the driveway when he gets here too  so between all that, haven’t gotten into anything as Molly has a vet apt. For boosters and rabies, so can’t really start anything.

Barbie, congrats on the trophy. Looks like you were having fun. Beth, maybe you should sell Benson and find a place in TX instead.

Neighbors who bought the house around the curve here and moved down the road have been busy fixing up and getting settled. He had a nice fire going outside yesterday, burning all the tree limbs and branches he’s been trimming off trees. Like king really nice out there. Place has been neglected for at least 8-10 years. He said he’s got 90% of what needed to be repaired in the house done.

Olympics are starting. We have a bit of Olympic fever here as one of our local ladies is on the U.S. Women’s Freestyle Aerials ski team. Her name is Winter Vinecki. And a teammate of hers hails from the small town of Boyne City, about 30 miles from here. So half the women’s aerials team is from northern Michigan. Winter is very athletic. She is the first girl to have completed a marathon on all 7 continents before she as 13 and she and her mom, the first mother-daughter to do so. She moved to Park City, UT when she was 13 to train for aerials on hopes of making the U.S. team someday. She’s now a college graduate, so she’s been at it for a number of years.

Guess I had better get some lunch. Will be time to leave for vet before I know it. Have a nice afternoon/day everyone.

Went to bed late and woke up early. Can't get back to sleep so may as well get up and get moving. The wind has died to barely a breeze so I can go fill up with gas and get a car wash today. Will also get that haircut done today. Then housework and working on the gourd. And maybe a nap later... :?

Enjoy your day!

Tried to beat you, so copied this and will delete other posting.

Still sunny in Florida, although we are supposed to get a little rain on Sunday. By the way, it just took me a couple of minutes to figure out what day of the week this was, so decided to put it in title.

Been having a problem with shower backing up even though I have taken only a short shower and not used much water. If I dump it, it does dump OK and drains, and then I can use maybe another 5-8 gallons of water before it backs up again, so I am being very very careful with water use. (Have only electric and water hookup here.) Yesterday, I called a mobile technician who was highly recommended by the campground. He was supposed to come this morning but called me to cancel and reschedule to tomorrow. The weird thing is that he thinks I have a soap background and started to lecture me on when and how to dump my tanks!!! :x Now, considering that I am not exactly new to this, was a bit irritating. Anyone hear of having a soap buildup??? I know I am not that clean to use all that soap.

I have tried drano, one of those long plastic things that are supposed to break up clogs, and a plunger, none of which has worked. I am going out to buy a gallon of white vinegar, and see if that does anything.

LOL Judy! I just checked back to make sure that somebody hadn’t posted while I was doing mine, so I guess we crossed paths there  I was thinking about your shower issue with the drain and I’m wondering if there’s a possibility that the vent on the roof could be blocked. That might be keeping the airflow from doing what it’s supposed to do.

Sue, I agree that's a good thing to check- the roof vent! It definitely can cause the described issues.
Sunny here and leaves barely stirring. My upholstery person is supposed to bring chairs tonight, so will head to credit union to get her $ ( for unknown reasons, which are none of my business-I've decided- she can't cash a check, said her Walmart paycheck goes to some special card and they only accept typed checks and are not a physical bank. Anyone heard of that? )
I'm continuing to scrape leaked dried food from shelves of the pantry (which was blocked for over 10 years during Mel's illness). I'm nearing the end, but still few days of work before re-lining shelves and beginning to put stuff back! Then can begin non food cupboards as to sort, get rid of items I don't use and wipe down and reorganize. Then Sean will refinish doors where needed.
Sure praying for more rain! Hope all have a good weekend. We will be ordering Chinese food and watching opening of Olympics and tuning in to our favorite events including a number of athletes from near by in my county (Placer is narrow but runs from Sacramento border up high in Sierras into ski country). Lots of snowboarders, skirs, ski jumpers, and others from here. Formerly Squaw Valley, is just up the hill.

We had a good time at our Meetup last night. Several of us got there early so had a half price Margarita. I am careful about drinking if I have to drive but figured in several hours I would be ok. Ten women at a table can get kind of loud but the place was almost empty. I bet they were glad to see us. I brought half my food home so Mexican food for lunch. The taco I had was the best I have had in a long time. I hate the wimpy tacos that fall apart when you pick them up.

It rained a little this morning but the front is just getting here. The storms are trailing from the gulf Northward. Now they are predicting a tornado watch for Alabama. They sure seem to have a lot of tornado watches. The governor of Texas is on the Weather Channel talking about the big ice storm in Texas. I hope that goes North of me. They are predicting 27 degree lows Friday and Saturday night. I went out and wrapped the new pipe for the faucet. I don't want another water leak. I figured it would be better to do that when the temperature was 60 rather than wait until it's 40.

Barbie, congratulations on your trophy. Is the golf course where you live all putting greens? I don't know much about golf.

Judy, hope you can get your water problem fixed. I think like Sue, it might be your vent pipe.

Velda, my son doesn't have a checking account and he has a hard time cashing a check. About the only checks places will cash are government checks and they charge a fee. I deposit checks for him and give him the money.

After much thinking, I agree that it has to be vent pipe.

And, Barbie, I doubt if I will ever go Disney again either. Prices are ridiculous for entry and food and
Lines are too long. Ditto for Universal Studios I went to several years ago.

Good morning!

Things I forget I read - Judy, I have the old Fitbit clip on, too. Right after I got it, I was introduced to the Pacer app and since I carried my phone in my pocket all the time, I just used that. I'm using the Fitbit again - mainly to get accurate reading while on the treadmill. I have had many great visits to the Disney parks, but I doubt I will ever go again. I think I might like to go to Dollywood.

Barbie, congrats on the trophy. I'm so bad I don't even like to play miniature golf! Velda, I need to set up to record Olympic events.

Martha, I rather envy you having people to go out to eat with. I drag my heels about going anywhere and I was telling my daughter about your trips to town. I know others do, too, but somehow yours stick with me because you often stop for take out! One of my friends that came to visit lives north of Seattle and gets a lot of take out.

We have two guest parking spots for 3 buildings and a Mustang has been parked in one since at least Dec. 18. I mentioned it to the manager weeks ago - wasted my breath. She just sent an e-mail that if it isn't moved by tomorrow they will tow it. She is really on the ball!

The vacuum cleaner and treadmill await!

I'm not sure what the temperature is here but the snow started again this morning and still coming down. I have someone coming to clear the driveway but I think what I need most is sidewalk shoveled and cars cleaned off! Maybe I can talk them into it. Almost everything is closed even the college which will also be closed again tomorrow! So far only about 4 inches but there is ice underneath. I don't know why I am so bored as I don't go out much anyway. DH had a surgical procedure scheduled for today and that was cancelled. Guess too many can't get to work.

Judy if the repair guy does come be sure and tell him about using Drano!! Plumbers really hate it cause it is so toxic, also I thought you weren't supposed to use it and dump at a campground. Hope it is an easy on your purse job! Also it could be toxic to use vinegar after using Drano. You usually mix baking soda and vinegar for a clog.

Barbie congratulations on your golfing trophy. Have a good time at the gourd festival. Martha I'm glad you are feeling better.

Afternoon All, a rainy 47°this afternoon. Only rain predicted for the shore but that could air guess. Lol. Went to Dollar Tree to get Valentines for great grands. Use to mail cards so that they arrived exactly on the day. Will mail these cards 5 days before Valentine and hope they get them. Bought a humidifier and attempted to set it up. The directions unclear said unscrew the cap and fill the tank with water at the arrow. I spent 15 minutes trying to find a cap or arrow. Then I did everything but lay on the floor , kick my feet and cry. Was really upset and thought sorta like a child throwing a tantrum. A very sobering thought, is this like a second childhood. It isn’t like me to have such a short fuse. Calmed down and started searching for a video. It took the third video try before someone showed unscrewing the cap and filling the tank. Making shrimp scampi for dinner. Hoping people in the storms path will be safe

Anita, look up meetup.com and search to see if there are any groups in your area. I would have looked but don't remember the town you live in. Our friend Carolyn got me involved. She is a lot more social than I am. She started a book club and a game night. I don't read books or play games so don't go to those meetings. Not that I have to do either, I could just go hang out with them. Going to Lafayette a couple of times a month at night is enough for me. My life would be pretty lonely if I didn't have the forum and my camping friends.

I feel for the ones that are having to deal with the ice and snow. It's only 46 here and Sugar and I had a very short walk. She always wants to go visit the neighbor's dog but I told her it's too cold to visit Rosco.

Well since I am still sick I decided to bite the bullet and go seek medical help LOL It has been an interesting 2 days. Since yesterday was my birthday in the afternoon I decided to go get my mail and let the dog go with me for the short ride. She thinks she has been somewhere then LOL well car wont start dead battery. So called my roadside assistance and they got here within 30 minutes, took less than 5 to start the car. Well I knew my battery was getting old but I didnt expect it to die just yet. So went over and got a new sealed one like I had bought 6 or 7 years ago I paid $177...well it is now $215 Happy Birthday to me.

So today after a very restless coughing night I decided to go see the Doc. I also knew I had a UTI that just started. I wanted Cipro for the UTI as a couple of the others have never worked. I also wanted codeine cough syrup. So he took my detailed history (never saw him before) checked me all out. Covid neg. Heart normal, lungs clear but upper bronchi congested. Said yes indeedy I did have a UTI. So he ordered the Codeine cough syrup, Cipro, and an inhaler. I went and got gas, dropped off my prescriptions at Costco. They didnt have the eye ointment for my weepy eye but they will order it. I came home and getting ready to head back there to pick up my scripts. They said a half hour but I have been down that road before LOL so I am giving them extra time.

Karen, I'm glad you finally went to the doctor and hope the meds get you healthy again.

Judy, it was me, not Barbie, who said I doubt I'll go back to Disney. Not that it matters lol

We're in the coldest spell this winter in south Texas. Today and tomorrow appear to be the worst. Martha, it made it to 45 here today, low tonight predicted 32. Tomorrow predicted same high with the low 31. Things start up again from there. I didn't mind the 40's if it wasn't for the wind accompanying it. That bothered me on our walks. But could obviously be worse.

Shirl, I'm glad you figured out where to add water. They can be confusing.

Anita, I agree about Martha's meet ups. I might have to look into them when I'm in one location awhile. I probably won't, but I should.

The people who have the space to my left here haven't been here since I moved to this space, just their rig. They came in today and I met him, not her. He was a real jerk. I got happy when he said they're only here a couple days this time.

Not quite as energetic as yesterday but got my bedroom and bathroom cleaned up and the porch as clean as it will get for now. Just need to work on the kitchen and living room.

I also just about finished my gourd. It is done except for a sealing coat on it. I will post a photo shortly. It turned out pretty nice. Probably my best effort so far.

I always have fun when playing putters golf, even if I don't play well. Just love the weather, scenery with the mountains, lake, grass, flowers, palm trees, etc, and the social aspect of it. Martha, we have the 9 hole putting course and also an 18 hole "executive" golf course (shorter than a regular golf course).

Thanks for the reminder about the Olympics. I like to watch the ice dancing competitions. Lindsey Vonn, the Olympic skiing champion, grew up in Minneapolis and learned how to ski at a "hill" just south of there. We don't have mountains there so we ski on hills. I took lessons there too once but didn't care for it. Too cold.

I used to join meet-up groups but since Covid, most were shut down for that. When I first moved here, there was a group that went out to dinner once a week during the summer. We went to different restaurants each week. It was a good thing for me as I discovered the local eateries and made new friends here in the park within a smaller group of people. We haven't done that again since that first summer. Maybe next summer.

I better get back to work here. Have a good evening!

Well best laid plans gone awry. I went to pick up my scripts and there was like 25 people ahead of me and one pharmacy checker. Oh heck no I will go back in the morning. Then I had an icon light on in my car and I thought it was because of my new battery. So I called them they said slide on by might be your alternator. OK so he comes out, looks at it tells me it is my check engine light. So he got his scanner plugged it in and there were no error codes, so he cleared it and the light went away. So one fail (scripts) and one win. I will take it. I will get my butt to Costco early in the morning when they open.
