Suggestions to ESCAPE 104* please!

Postby mtngal » Mon Jun 22, 2009 9:30 am

Oh my gosh, the forecast is to hit 104* in Austin by Thursday! I'm planning to head for home on July 6 and will be with in striking distance of the high country with cool temps, BUT until then, any ideas to escape the heat in Austin for a couple days? I know all distances are LONG in Texas, hoping I can stay within a couple hours. Am thinking about the Port Lavaca area. HELP!

D although PL should be slightly cooler because of the breeze off the water, I read in today's Victoria Advocate about the heat warning in the area. ( I lived in Victoria for 17 years and still check the obits to see if my ex died  )

Diana we had 102 in Florida today. They say we are suppose to have a break in this by tomorrow. I sure hope so, Everything is getting heat stress. When I cranked my car up it said 109 on the guage but finally drop to 102 and stayed there. This is the beginning of the summer., and it is going to be long and hot.

Since retiring (Tampa, FL), we have worked hard at NOT being in the worst of the heat-although sometimes, like when we went to Utah-we made that choice. Tonight will be in the 30's at June Lake in the Eastern Sierras. Maybe we could exchange a little ;) carold

Come to the Adirondacks for the summer! It's a comfy 55 here this morning, and will get into the 70s by afternoon if the sun comes out!

Good luck hope you find a way! It is awful here in Southern Illinois also, mid-nineties plus really high dew point and humidity. Hope there is a break soon. Sheila or Soos want some company!!

I'd head for the highest elevation you can find even if it's several days drive! We just this week started to get close to 90 but at night it's wonderfully cool outside. We've not had to use AC in the coach or the swamp cooler in the house. Believe it or not -- with all our rain -- I've only watered my garden twice since I planted it! We had more thunderstorms in the area again last night. Most of the biggies went around us but we did pick up 1/4 inch of rain. It could stay this way all summer but the garden wouldn't grow!

Soos, you and Cedar have got me so interested in your area, probably not this summer, but maybe next I surely want to visit and explore the Adirondacks.

For this week, I'm thinking it's probably smart to stay home under my own AC and next to the pool. It's just that I am SO anxious to go camping!!!! still thinking about Port Lavaca......

When I get back to CA after the 4th, my sister and I are taking her grandsons on a loop up the N CA and OR coast, then over to Crater lake. Some nights to camp, some to stay in cabin or motel.

Stay cool.......

Open invitation here for anytime...and that's for all! Next summer I will be celebrating my freedom from work for the first time since about 1956!! Maybe earlier, if you count babysitting and camp counselor work. Summer next year will be one huge party!
