Feb. 1st - Rabbits Rollcall

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Feb. 1st - Rabbits Rollcall

Check in day. What have you been up to?

Cloudy, 26° here. Heading into upper 30’s, but wind will make it feel colder. Big storm will miss us, but might have some lake effect depending on wind. No big deal though. Going to take advantage of mild day to put some stuff in the shed, break down some boxes and take them and other stuff to recycle. Went through and cleaned out one storage room. Sone stuff heading to donation, pile of throw out went in yesterday’s trash pick up, rest is heading to shed or recycle. That room is ready for paint brush.

Picked out the flooring for the bathroom, will have that room measured on Thursday and go from there.

O’Sharon, regarding my love for winter, I think it’s a case of bloom where your planted. I always like Winter as a kid and embraced a lot of snow activities over the years. I grew up in a country atmosphere per say until the village became a city suburb of Detroit. But I also grew up north here too and have spent more of my life here. Downstate I used to ice skate, we dabbled in ice fishing, I dabbled at downhill skiing, had sleds, toboggans and up here it was snowshoes, cross country skis and snowmobiles. I never minded shoveling and now snow blowing. Yes, it can get cold and treacherous in winter, but being out getting exercise and fresh air and having places to walk by the lakes and no traffic makes a big difference.Hard to do that in the city. It also makes one tough, dealing with what mom nature throws at us. I think it makes one appreciate the changing of seasons from winter to spring and into summer more too, because the changes are so dramatic. One becomes so attuned to nature that you notice subtle things that others don’t. I call it a feel for the seasons and the Weather. Meteorological spring begins on March 1st and I can sense things changing way before the calendar says spring. That’s just an equinox dste at tbe end of March. Nature doesn’t live by the calendar. The angle of the sun, the change from dry to wetter snow, changes in sky color, birds beginning to chirp, and a lot of minor things tell me when spring is coming.

Enough wintery jabbering. Got to get moving. Have a nice dsy and Stdy safe, hunker down, those of you in the path of this wi ter storm.

Good morning Sue and all that check in!

I woke a little after 1:00 and shouted "Rabbits." When I went for my walk this morning, it was 37 degrees and currently it is 58 and we'll have a high of 72. It is gradually warming up in central FL.

Good morning all!

High will be 63 here tody - I'll take it.

Been busy, busy, busy... I decided to take French 101 at the local community college. It's on zoom twice a week for 2.5 hours each day. The homework takes me forever! And this is only the second week. Hopefully finding my way around all the virtual tools they use will become second nature soon. I didn't like being totally dependent on the kids when I was in France so decided I'd be more accountable taking a real class rather than trying it on my own via various websites - plus I like learning all the basics. I'm actually enjoying being pushed a bit & am looking forward to learning more.

I still take care of Jordi twice a week so those are my days to take a break & get in some walks & snuggle time with him. Soon enough he'll be too big for all of that. He finally likes pre-school & is participating more with the class although they said that he is a 'sllent crier' - when he is sad, he just goes away from everyone & cries quietly. They are very sweet in noticing it & letting him know that its ok for him to come to them instead & let them know what the problem is. He's such a sweet & sensitive little guy.

Well, it's time to go pick him up for the day.
Hope everyone stays warm & well.
Take care,
Catherine

Good morning Everybody from beautiful Kino Bay. The weather has been lovely; warm when the sun shines and colder at night. We gather in groups outside only and wear a mask whenever we go inside a store. The clinic had booster shots available last week and the few who didn’t get them before leaving home got their boosters. There are Only one or two people here who refuse to get vaccinated.
There isn’t much to do and there are times when I’m bored, but then I take a walk on the beach and life is good.

I spoke with my son on Saturday and there was a major storm in CT, but that is to be expected. He said he and “Purrfect” were fine and he’d “dig out” later.

Enjoy today. Peggy

Good morning! I said Rabbits just a bit after midnight since I was still up. Sun is out so far today but supposed to cloud up later. Tomorrow night and Thursday not looking good. With the warmer temps it’s supposed to start as rain but then become an ice storm and we’ll probably be getting some of it. So today I really need to get out and get dog food and some other things I need. Yesterday turned out kinda crazy. I had a medical appointment in the afternoon that they cancelled due to illness and rescheduled for March. Then I had a phone appointment for 1 that didn’t happen so that had to be rescheduled! So by then I was kinda over it all and just stayed home and finished a couple of things. Sue, I was thinking this morning about our trip to Punxsutawney and what we experienced. I so enjoyed your enthusiasm. You have a special gift to enjoy what is. I’m hoping Phil predicts an early spring! So guess I should get myself moving and get my running taken care of. I hope this month is good to everyone!

It's been a foggy morning, keeping temps down. We're just hitting 60 now but as the sun works it's way out we'll get to mid to upper 70's today. I made a very tiny HEB order for pickup. I love they don't have minimums cuz I only want a few things and if I walked around to get them my cart would fill quickly lol.

Nothing much else to say. I'll do some laundry either today or tomorrow while we'll have the warmer sun so I can hang some of it out to dry.

I did say rabbits around 1:30 am but am not positive I didn't talk to Ty first.

Good morning everyone. I said rabbits as I was going to bed. But probably spoke to son first as I left living room. I also said rabbits when I got up, so maybe that will stick.
I need to get morning chores done then head out. Have periodic lab work to get done, then Home Depot to look at paint for kitchen/dining room, and living room, which all have advised me should be same color per "open plan" look standards. Really it is difficult to decide where kitchen stops and dining room stops and goes into living room , we're I to want different colors. My least favorite part of this process.
I have pantry probably 75% empty and cleaned. I thought Sean the handyman was coming yesterday and could haul out heavy bags of old canned stuff he wanted to go through, but he had to work on his truck and paperwork. Hopefully he will come today and clear that floor space I have covered with sorted trash bags as they are heavier than I should be lifting.
Have to go to bank too, for cash to pay for upholstery work, which is nearly finished.
Good to hear from everyone who checks in today.
Have a good February everyone and stay safe in the weather. Our temps were down to 35 overnight, but will reach 60's today and Still No Rain!

Hi ladies~~~
I did remember Rabbits! when I got up in the middle of the night, then went back to sleep, but it still counts!

Sue, I did a lot of the same things you did growing up, except the snow-shoeing part. But I've never been a big fan of winter, mostly the cold and idiot drivers in the snow. I did my time and I'm over it.

Catherine, awesome that you're learning French. I had some in school, but had more of Spanish (4 years) because it was similar to Italian. Now when you go visit, you can ask directions yourself. ;)

Peggy are you in Mexico? I had to Google and that's where it said.

It's starting to rain now, and it's been warmer for the last day or so, all the snow from last week is almost gone. The rain will be changing to snow later, then may continue for 48 hours with a little break in-between. Did two errands this morning, so I'm not planning on leaving the house until at least Friday.

I really need to start thinking about reservations. Planning on hitting the road mid-April. After I get the camper out of storage and get it dewinterized, I'm going to WI for a bit to visit some family & friends. Also planning on going to the Midwest Horse Fair in Madison. It's a great show. Not specific to any breed. All breeds are represented with demos, including quite a few Parade of Breeds in the arena where the riders and horses are in costumes from their place of origin. After that, who knows where I'll head, but I'm thinking east towards New England since that's where I was headed before I turned around to come back to IL when Dad fell. Getting to the point where I'm thinking about selling the house (it's sooooo outdated and needs some repairs) and the FL condo. Cousin is selling his parents condo in the same complex and I'll probably be using the same realtor.

That's it from the Chitown burbs. Stay safe, stay warm, stay happy.

Happy February!

My alarm was set for 11:59 so I would remember rabbits. :) Sun has been out off and on. Feel like I've seen more blue sky here than last year - more like I expected.

Just plugging away - my sewing and desk storage are so different from anything I've had before so organizing takes some thought.

Catherine, I doubt my brain works well enough to learn a foreign language. It didn't do well with Spanish when I was in school. Good for you!!

Here's to a good month for us all!!

The dogs and I are here in Florida for at least a week or more before maybe heading to the South Carolina Coast and then over to a visit with daughter in Charlotte, NC. The weather will determine if I make a plan B or C or D, before I made it back to SW Ohio. It finally warmed up enough yesterday that I was motivated to get the kayak out on Orange Lake in McIntosh but this morning I waved goodbye and headed down to a Thousand Trails park and hope to make it over to visit with some of the ladies staying at the Hardy Lakes for the annual GTG. I haven't heard from Nan yet but she was expecting to come down today. Haven't heard anything from the scoring center so I haven't had to make up my mind if I want to work a contract this spring. Mostly I need to make it back to Ohio for some doctor appointments that I have put off. After last winter, I have decided that putting off investigating issues is not longer a wise decision. I value what health I have scrapped back this past year but don't take it for granted.

Stay heathy out there. If I manage to post any pictures over on Facebook any of you talented tech folks are welcome to repost them here. Since I am not traveling with my camera, all my pictures are in my iPhone and are not currently on my laptop where the magic "Picture posting" feature resides.

Made it to the river side of Gamble Rogers SP here north of Flagler Beach. I am planning on two restful weeks with some extra sleeping. My leg muscles are really sore from the last few days at Disney World, but I am going to focus more on walking so that I do not get so sore for something like a theme park. It will put me in better health, also.

I started a list of calls I need to make this week and other small tasks I have put off, like gathering all my income tax statements and doing some dusting in the front bunk area that I need to get a ladder out to reach. Also need to adjust the money I have had taken out of SS because I was working and had to pay some taxes on SS income.

Got a pork roast in the oven, cooling down now. When I was in Michigan, I bought some of my favorite cherry barbecue sauce so that will go well with the pork. I already had dinner tonight, but it will be dinner tomorrow and a couple of later days.

Good luck to everyone in the path of the upcoming winter storm!! Been keeping my eyes on it and glad I am down here where it is warming up after a cold weekend.

I did wake up during the night and remembered to say rabbits! We are having the calm before the storm here. It was almost 60 today but tomorrow temps will fall and ice and snow is in the forecast. The news is certainly putting me and many others in a state of anxiety.

Cheryl it sounds as though you have some interesting plans for when you are free to flee! I think it would be a hard to decide if it would better to sell as is or to do remodeling.
Tina I'm glad you are still wandering around in Florida. Catherine I hope your French class gets easier.

It's been a long day and I'm off to doze in front of the TV.:)

BJ~ I did think about fixing up the house, and even had a designer that works with rehabs come out, but her estimate was $100,000 more than I wanted to spend. Could have been doable on my budget, but needing contractors blew my budget. And a major downfall was its in Cook County.

I remembered rabbits because I was still up at midnight. I was going to take a NyQuil when I went to bed but my nose had finally quit running. I was feeling good when I got up this morning until I went out to feed the cats. I started sneezing, my eyes were watering and my nose started running. I guess now I'm allergic to something. I had an appointment to get my car service at 1:00 so took one Benadryl pill. It's a good thing I didn't take two pills because I went to sleep waiting on my car. I was ok until I got to Walmart on the way home. The way things are now I just hate to have to cough or blow my nose in public. I have a Meetup Meal tomorrow night and hope I don't have another attack then.

Catherine, I took one semester of French in college. I could read French but couldn't think it fast enough to speak it. I took a few local classes over the years but didn't learn much. I probably learned most of what I know when I was working and it's words that shouldn't be repeated. Harold spoke Cajun French but he could understand and speak to people from France. I tried to get him and his mother to teach our son but they didn't.

The rain blew through while I was waiting on my car. I forgot to check the rain gauge but don't think we got much. It hasn't started cooling off yet. I hope we don't get the cold and snow they are predicting in Texas.

I went to my room shortly after 11 did stuff found myself muttering to myself and realized it was a couple mins after 12 so quickly quit muttering and said Rabbit's Rabbits Rabbit's does it count if you were muttering to yourself???
my 8 year old granddaughter is in a duel immersion school with French being the language.. I haven't been around her enough to know how well she is learning the language... but admirer you Cathrine for studying the language... I've never taken another language when I went to high school it wasn't required...
logically I KNOW that your temps in FL and TX are much lower than normal but I have to laugh as well when you talk about your being what ever it was and then think your low was higher much higher than our high was I'm not sure that we made it up to 20 today and right now the phone says that it is 8 I think the official temp would be lower than that our low is expected to got to -9 at 8 in the morning... I was born and raised in snow country but never gained a liking for outdoor sports I think I went skiing perhaps once did ice skate some but for some reason was an indoor person... now I'd much rather be where it's a bit warmer at this time of the month possible in the 60's to 70's... outside in the sun it would feel great... now here in the house it's cold!!!
I finished up the "weaving" part of my Swedish Weave today now to figure out the best part of the finishing normally I would just proceed but with the stain to get out I am not sure if I should do part of it and then take it to the cleaners... or just take it to the cleaner's now... well not now but in the present state of finished.... it's been so long since I've finished one that I need to talk with my friend who taught me the craft...
it's hard to come up with what I'm doing as I'm here almost daily ... good to hear from you Peggy
Cheryl isn't the price of houses up in your neck of the woods??? would it be good to spend some to get more? or not?
you all take care
