Friday January 21

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Friday January 21

Postby Shirlv » Fri Jan 21, 2022 10:19 am

Morning All, it’s sunny and 19°. Technology will be the death of me. One of my pet peeves is the blaring commercials on tv and especially so living in an apartment. My solution was get headphones. Ordered wired headphones so I didn’t have to deal with technology. Well my tv doesn’t have a jack for headphones because that is outdated. There is a solution and it has taken me two days to find a picture because I do not understand terminology. The new problem is finding the adapter. Amazon has so many I am overwhelmed with the selection. Will spend the day muttering to myself and searching some more. Fixing my favorite salmon cakes for dinner. Be safe

Just ordered an adapter from Amazon. The picture looked like the right one.

Good morning, Shirl, and all who follow.

I also use wired headphones with my tv. In case the interface you ordered doesn't work out, you might try the Turtle Beach DSS device (Turtle Beach is a well-known and well-regarded company that produces many types of headphones):

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003O0KICS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have used this device for many years, and it outputs excellent sound quality (especially when I set my tv's sound output to digital).

It is 100% "plug and play".

All that is needed is an optical digital outlet on the back of your tv, and also a USB output on the back of your tv (most newer tv sets will have both of these). The digital optical output is for the sound, the USB is to power the EarForce DSS. Of course, one also needs a digital optical cable and a USB cable, but the DSS came with both needed cables.

Please let us know what your ordered. I really love how our Forum shares information. :D

Thanks.

Good Morning, It was 11 here this morning and supposed to be 12 in the morning. At least it' moving up! High today will be 29 but tomorrow it will finally be above freezing.

Anne you lost me at the optical digital outlet. I just keep the remote handy and adjust the sound as needed. I don't watch a lot of TV. I mostly use my iPhone and watch Netflix.

Shirl I admire your determination!

Anita I haven't heard from my friend in Ireland. I did send her a message though so hopefully some day she will look at her email. She has a brother who lives in Texas I hope she includes his sentiments.

The girls are here cleaning and Pippa is not sure about the vacuum or letting them pet her. She didn't object when one picked her up out of her playpen but she won't go up to her voluntarily. It's hard to socialize her as neighbors have been gone that did play with her. I don't want to take her out before she has her shots besides no where really to take her with the high numbers of people with the virus.

Anne, like BJ I have no idea what you said in your post. Please don’t elaborate because I wouldn’t understand that either. Lol I ordered a RCA cable….3.5mm female to 2RCA male stero audio cable. which will attach to the audio out socket on the back of the tv. It has a red plug and a white plug which helps because I do know my colors. Is it 5 o’clock somewhere I need a glass of wine. Lol

Yep it's always 5:00 my time and I'm having a glass of delicious blackberry/blueberry wine from a local winery. Then a nap is on my schedule unless the little one decides to wake up. She is worn out from supervising the girls who came to clean. I know 'girls' is not an appropriate word these days but like the time I don't go by rules. :)

I stayed in bed to avoid going out with the "feels like" temp in the 20's. Unfortunately it still was feels like 29 when Ty and I took our first walk. FedEx delivered my first order from the meal service I ordered from. I was worried about fridge space but these are all shrink wrapped and therefore take up little space. That I like. Hopefully I'll like the food.

Anne, you even lost me lol... I was recently asked to help with a website and honestly told the person things have changed so quickly that I wouldn't attempt the simple stuff they wanted.

I keep putting off making an appt for the dentist and another to get my eyes tested. I need to do both. Soon lol. Dang I can procrastinate!

Had to get up early (for me) this morning to try for the second day in a row to get a camping spot at Moraine Campground in Rocky Mountain National Park in July. Since I cannot make it to the West in time to join my kids on their July camping trip, I have decided to take my time getting there and spend some time in cooler Colorado on the way. Finally got a spot, but I am a little worried about branches that might be overhanging. At least it is a long spot, so hopefully it will work out. The real trick will be to try to get a spot a few days later in Heaton Bay near Frisco, CO. It is on a big reservoir and there is a very long bike trail that goes all around the lake and into nearby towns, so it is very popular. Not too far from Breckenridge, also.

They finally fixed the washers and dryers in this campground, so I am in the process of doing two loads of clothing and one of bedding. That will keep me busy today. Tomorrow I have an appointment for a booster COVID shot. I got two shots in March and then a third shot in August because of my immune system, so this will be my booster since it has been five months since my August shot. With everything going on, I really want to be as covered as possible.

Also, speaking of procrastination, I have a technical task I have been putting off--installing a new splitter box. I have had it for a week, but am avoiding it because I was afraid I would break something and not have TV for a while!!!

It only got down to 31 last night but is only up to 39. They are still saying 20's for tonight and tomorrow night. Some of my friends are camping in Mississippi. Glad I'm not there.

I am usually on the computer when I'm watching TV so not getting a lot out of whatever is on TV. If something is aggravating me, either commercial or the show, I mute the TV. Half the time I forget to turn the sound back on so miss the rest of the show. There is so little on TV that I want to see anyway.

I had some sweet potatoes that have been here for a while. I decided to bake them so had a sweet potato and a cup of the cauliflower soup for lunch. The deli has shrimp and corn bisque but I didn't feel like going to town. Possie always wants whatever I'm eating so I gave her some sweet potato and she ate it.

Judy, sorry I can’t help myself. I posted a link in General for you. I didn’t know what a splitter box was so looked it up and saw a video. You know how I am with YouTube. Beth, this apartment is usually very warm but not today with 20° temp. I have put a sweater over the sweatshirt. Just received a flyer from management to have faucets on a slow drip. Porch friend driving back from Florida and riding into a ice/snow storm hitting the Carolinas and Virginia. Hope she stops and stays put. Scary weather.

Beautiful sun again today, currently 38 and rising! Of course, it started raining while I was in the grocery store yesterday! I sympathize with all of you and the cold weather. Trying to not sleep past 9 - usually means snooze until 9:30. Monica and I decided to make our long time favorite for Alan's birthday this weekend - manicotti. I have the sauce simmering.

Sent a 'generic' e-mail to hospital and whoever got it let the billing department know! Got a call and problem fixed. They billed 4 different things for wart removal and biopsy with no detail and insurance EOB isn't much help either. Another issue has been handled as well this morning so feeling less frustrated.

Most everything I watch is recorded so I can fast forward through commercials. Sporting events I mute because I'm not a fan of announcers' opinions so don't hear commercials. I also use closed captioning because I miss a word here and there

Beth, I need dentist and eye appointments as well, but will wait until spring to be sure weather cooperates! Shirl, I also hope your friend hunkers down!

Stay safe everyone!

Shirl, I just posted pictures of mine. Mine is MUCH more complex because I have three TVS and they also have to be able to attach to the DVD player, my satellite system, the cable hookup, and the antenna which I no longer have.

Can you see why I have procrastinated? However, I don't want to pay some mechanic $200 to hook it all up, so I will tackle it one of these days.

Ladies, it ain't that hard.

You plug one end of each of two cables - count 'em, two - into the back of your tv.

1. A USB cable (of the same kind one connects one's computer to one's printer)
2. A digital cable

The other end of both cables you plug into the DSS device.

Plug headphones into DSS device. Done.

Last time I looked - especially on this forum - the polite thing to say has always been "thank you", when someone on here made an honest effort to help. Whatever one might be thinking privately.

But here's the question: When did "pile on" (with ridicule) become the accepted and fun thing to do on this forum, especially towards someone trying to help?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Anne, I am so sorry if I offended you, it wasn’t meant that way. You are so much more tech savvy than me It might be simple for you but I had never heard of any of that terminology. I will remember “just thank you” in the future. I am truly sorry.

Anne, I honestly think we're all impressed with your knowledge. I apologize if I said something that took it otherwise. I didn't even know there are specific digital cables. And I just googled exactly what a dss device is. If anything I'm showing my lack of knowledge.

Was very busy at work today! I did 16 haircuts and made close to $100 in tips! Was really tired tho by the time I went home!

Weather has been perfect, mid 70's and mostly sunny. A bit windy today. We probably have the best weather in the country right now, from the sound of what everyone else is dealing with!

I called my sister-in-law in Tucson last night. We talked for quite awhile. My brother seems to be doing pretty well, altho he is having more memory issues now. I told her about my gourd art and about the gourd festival and the woman I am staying with and helping out in her class. She was really excited for me and very encouraging about me getting going with my gourd art. Other than my mom, she is the first one in my family who was interested and even enthused about my creative endeavors. That really made me feel good. She is also the only one in the family who also does arts and crafts and really appreciates that kind of thing. She is also a savvy business woman and was telling me I need to consider this as a potential business for the future. She said to call her anytime I need encouragement. I think the Universe is giving me a lot of positive signs to pursue this a little more seriously.

I got my bike yesterday and today I got the accessories like the bike lock, solar alarm, seat cover, drink holder, etc. Need to find someone to put the bike together for me. Am waiting to hear back from Dave about what his son charges to put bikes together.

I have a short day at work tomorrow. Will be off at 2pm so will have more time to get stuff done tomorrow. I need to get motivated! There is a PGA golf tournament in town here this weekend. Will try to catch some of that on TV too.

I was supposed to do two haircuts tonight on a Canadian couple I know here, but the woman was exposed to someone the other day who tested positive for Covid so she is quarantining now.

Have a good night! (WOW :o the wind is really blowing hard outside now! I hope I have everything put away or tied down out there!)
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
