Monday January 17

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Monday January 17

Morning All, sunny, windy and all trace of storm has disappeared. Strange, strange weather, snow, hail and rain. Sharon, are you snowed in? Hit the floor running, well not running just a quick step. Tree is down but have several bins that needed to be neatly tucked away until #2 daughter picks them for storage. Traffic is zipping by on the street so guess there is no ice. Need to take trash out so might take a ride to #1 daughter’s to check on winter sowing jugs. I have been reading so much my brain is in overload. Now realize I could have planted many more seeds in each jugs. Need to continue organizing. Be safe

Good Morning, It is 33 and we have a light dusting of snow. Whew, they were predicting snow all weekend so hope this was our share! I can't believe how fast time goes by when I am doing pretty much nothing exciting.

Pippa is going though lots of stages and keeps me on my toes keeping her out of things and picking up the water bowl as soon as she gets a drink to keep here from splashing in it. Maybe if I give her a bath she will loose her fascination. She is a good sleep aid though, I am tired when I go to bed and I've been sleeping well.

Shirl, I admire your determination! You will soon have your gardening skills down perfect! Judy, I think another dentist sounds like a really good idea something didn't sound right about the procedure the other one did, maybe out dated. Dealing with my Trigeminal Neuralgia I have learned so much and it pretty much comes down to you really have to do a lot of your own research. Also I've learned to follow up when they say they will do a referral. I was superposed to get an MRI and didn't get any calls from the place so I called their scheduling department and asked if they had received anything for me. After a long wait they found it but said they just hadn't got around to calling. Luckily they got me in fairly quickly but then I had to call to get them to forward the results to the neurosurgeon who had ordered it. When I had cataract surgery last week I asked if they had reviewed my list of allergies, why no they didn't have that. After I explained my reaction to a certain sedative I had their full attention. Just makes one more than a little apprehensive...

I need to go to the bank and do a couple of more errands so best get moving. I hope everyone finds at least one fun thing to do today.

I am finally getting a new roof this morning. It was only damaged in October, 2020. A van of Mexicans showed up at 7:30 and no one had called to tell me they were coming. Two guys in a pickup truck come by about every hour. I guess they are the supervisors. I think I could do that job. Sugar and the cats were freaked out from all the noise but they have finally settled down except for Pinky. She is hiding somewhere.

I got the recipe for the Cauliflower and Broccoli soup we had at one of the campouts. If I make it to town I think I'll get the ingredients and make it.

The sun is out and it's up to 55 this morning. I hope no one is getting hit with the latest storm. I think there was a little snow in North Louisiana. It's going to warm up to 70 by Wednesday and freeze Thursday night. I didn't sign up for the February campout because I don't like cold camping. With our weather it could be 80 or freezing.

BJ, time seems to pass fast for me too and I don't get much done. My animals keep me moving but probably not as much as a puppy. Like having a toddler in the house. lol Our medical system leaves a lot to be desired now. My son is very discouraged because he is in pain all the time with his back. If you won't have surgery the doctors are done with you. Even the pain management places won't give you anything for pain. All they want is money to do nothing. I don't know about your bank but my bank is closed today for MLK day.

I hope they do a good job on your roof Martha have you been waiting on them since 2020 or just now finding someone to do the work? I finally realized this was a holiday but the Coop was open so at least got groceries, they even had fresh organic celery! I hope your son can find some relief! I've probably said it before but I am so glad I live in a state where medical cannabis is legal. I would never have believed it if someone had told me I would someday use it but vaping and gummies have been a literal life saver for me. I figure it can't be any worse than the pain meds.which I understand aren't being prescribed as much. How is your sister doing?

Good afternoon. Shirl, I’m sorta snowed in….driveway is blown but the mess at the end of the driveway from the plow is high, icy and heavy! I think my neighbors 12 year old did the sidewalk earlier. Her dad told her she had to help her mom shovel snow before he left for Boston. He’ll be dealing with power poles down from the storm. I’m hoping my Outback can go over the mess at the end of the driveway! Unless I can catch the plower from the church when he comes to do their lot. Couple of times I’ve done that and paid him $20 and it made a big difference in me getting in and out and not having to go over a small mountain! I think I’m over this snow now! Think we got 5”-6” here in town. Lots higher numbers around us. I did call and reschedule my appointment with the doctor. Soonest I could get an appointment was next Sept 27! So seeing PA next Monday. I keep telling myself that I really need to find a new doctor. She’s been my primary care physician for 6 or 7 years and I’ve probably only seen her for annual appointments 4 or 5 times. Other times I see a PA. I think our medical system is broken. But that’s another soapbox! Judy, think I’d be finding a different dentist too. That’s quite a trip just for a few sutures to be removed when one local could probably do it. I finally made my butterscotch chip cookies last night. Left a few out and froze the rest. I’ve only been talking about them since Christmas! Can’t rush these things! Time to put some heat on my back, glad I have a chiropractor appointment later this week! Hope you all have a good rest of your day.

Good morning, not much happening here this morning. Did a couple of chores but just dont have the stamina yet to do anything big. Oh well it will be there when I am fully recovered

Took some hamburger out for dinner, think I will make a meatloaf, then can have meatloaf sandwiches for a couple of days. I am leaning towards simple.

BJ, I had contacted a company we had done business with before to fix my roof after the hurricane. They keep putting me off so I finally called this company in September. They finally delivered the metal at least a month ago and are just now getting around to doing the job. Louisiana has had so much damage from the hurricanes it is hard to get anyone to do something. Now I have to find a company to fix the ceiling in 2 rooms. I am pretty much sick of all of it. I haven't talked to my sister since the campout. I haven't heard her complaining about the pain in her face in a while. I think her main problems are her weight and not doing any exercises. I can see that she is getting around a little better after just 3 days camping where she has to move. It's hard to help people that won't help themselves. Louisiana is now selling some kind of medical cannabis but don't know how strong it is. The stores seem to constantly be in trouble with the law about what they are selling. I'll ask my son if he has tried any of it.

Chilly here today, or at least "Florida" chilly, meaning below 70 degrees. It is at this point that native Floridians consider getting out their winter coats and putting on ear muffs! The people wearing shorts are snowbirds!

It rained yesterday, so I stayed in and hibernated. I am waiting for a package of COVID rapid tests that were supposed to be delivered to the local Walgreens last Friday, but based on the tracking information, they are taking a tour of the United States. Maybe tomorrow since they are now at least in Florida????

More important news! Did you know that there is a serious tapioca shortage? I have been trying to get some to make pudding and the manager at Publix looked it up and said there was no tapioca in any Publix store anywhere. :o (I had already checked Walmart.) So I went home and looked it up. Apparently, there are multiple containers of tapioca stuck in the Pacific supply chain somewhere. The real problem is that places like Starbucks can no longer serve Boba or "bubble" tea. This is a tea drink with black tapioca balls in it, and apparently it is very popular when it is available. Tapioca is available on Amazon, but they want $10 for a tiny box of minute tapioca, which I refuse to pay!

Need to dump my tanks in this full-hookup site and maybe take trash out. Then I will probably do some reading or make some banana nut bread--love it for an easy breakfast. At least there is not a shortage of bananas and nutmeg!

Went to daughters to check on winter sowing jugs and they survive the snow, sleet and rain. I took a picture of them with my iPhone but haven’t been able to post. Did post a picture of plastic containers I will plant with seeds. Took that picture with iPad. Wasn’t a wasted trip, came home with roast beef, potatoes, green bean and apple pie.

I am feeling a bit down in the dumps today, for no particular reason, so I have no excuse.

The cookie press thing I ordered from someone on Ebay showed up, and my Mom's (and mine!) favorite recipe is printed on the side of the box the press came in (just as it always was).

This recipe is probably nothing special, really, just a variation on your basic spritz cookies. On the other hand, although I have looked for this specific recipe for the 40 years since my Mom's cookie press was lost/stolen I never found it. (LOL - guess I never looked very hard if I found it so easily on Ebay!)

Now that I have it again, I think I might whip up a batch of spritz cookies tomorrow. Or maybe even tonight. As though my hips aren't round enough already!

But they sure will taste good. YUM!!

I'll have to check the date on the eggs I have in the fridge to be sure they are still good, as these cookies require eggs. Eh, what the heck. If the eggs are out of date I think I'll just have my good friend Walmart bring some over.

Anne, glad you got your cookie press. Last week when I was eating out one of the ladies ordered a dessert that was beignet dough that looked like it was pushed through a tube into the hot oil and fried. They were about 4 inches long. I was wondering if you could do something like that with a cookie press.

My roof was finished this afternoon. They just have to pick up the old metal.

Good evening gals!
Chilly here today, or at least "Florida" chilly, meaning below 70 degrees. It is at this point that native Floridians consider getting out their winter coats and putting on ear muffs! The people wearing shorts are snowbirds!

Same here! I am usually the one in shorts!

I was working on a post last night when I suddenly got nauseous :o . Ended up sick in the bathroom for awhile. Not sure what brought that on but went to bed right after that. This morning I was back in the bathroom but with other issues. Not on those meds anymore so not sure what caused that either. Maybe something I ate yesterday. :?

I noticed on Friday that there was red tape around my big willow tree out back. That was the one that got butchered a year ago when they came by to "trim" trees here. So after dark last night, I went out and removed the red tape! :o It was dark by the time I got home so I didn't get a chance to look at the tree but am hoping they passed it by.

I made over $100 yesterday doing haircuts here in the park!

The big exciting news tho, is what happened yesterday morning!!!...
I had reserved a room at a Motel6 for the gourd festival with 2 queen beds. I then posted on the FB gourd page I am on, looking for someone to share the room with me for that weekend. Didn't get any offers so I reposted again a few days ago. Then yesterday morning I found a PM on FB regarding my post. I immediately recognized her name. She is the guru of gourds, one of the top gourd artists in the country! :o She said the woman who usually goes with her to the festival (she is teaching classes there) isn't able to make it this year so she wanted to know if I wanted to share her room instead! Hell YES!!! What an amazing opportunity for me!! So she wants to meet in person ahead of time. She is doing a class in Trabuco Canyon on Saturday, Feb 5th and suggested we meet for lunch there. Trabuco Canyon isn't too far from Laguna Beach south of LA. It is a two hour drive from here so I figured I am due for a beach fix so I think I will rent a room on Saturday night at Laguna Beach and drive back Sunday afternoon. I am very excited to meet her!

Work was pretty busy today. My manager gave me a birthday bag full of Dove chocolates, a pretty pair of PJ's and a gift card. Later on, my friends Dave and Debbie stopped by the shop and gave me a gift. It was a mini bunt cake from Everything Bunt that I have heard makes awesome bunt cakes. Haven't tried it yet...

I had a mother and son who came in for his haircut. She paid up front and gave me a $5 tip. Then while I was cutting his hair and she was watching, she came over and gave me a few more dollars saying she liked what I was doing. Then before they left, he handed me a $2 bill and wished me a happy birthday. She then took out more cash and handed that to me saying "happy birthday!". I ended up with $13 total! I have never gotten 4 tips for one haircut before! :o

Have been bloated all day but feeling better now. I have the next 2 days off. Tomorrow is golf in the morning and then work on the house. No plan to go anywhere. I didn't bring my haircut stuff home (on purpose) so I can't do any haircuts for the next two days. I do have 2 new customers in the park scheduled for Friday after work.

Martha, glad you got your roof done!

Sharon, I hope you get thru the snowbank at the end of the driveway! That was always a problem back in MN after a big snow. Just full of icy chunks and sand.

Just saw that "The Lost Valentine" is on now. Never have seen it. I will now!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Hi Martha! :D

I don't know if you could do that with the cookie press I have - I'm guessing probably, because if none of the cookie disks were suitable, this press also has a cake decorating attachment, so it shouldn't be a problem to push the dough through if the dough was not too heavy and dense.

So, maybe. :D

I have never in my life cooked anything in a pot full of oil ("deep fried" I guess you would call it).

Anne you can take your eggs and see if they float if they float they aren't any good if they don't they are good... many things have a suggested expired date but are good for a week or more longer...
I posted last night but neglected to see if it posted it didn't think someone else and I tried at the same time... when I discovered it was over for the night...
quite day at home checked the pellet stove for ashes did a load of clothes and worked on my Swedish Weave while doing so called my friend haven't talked with her in forever... I think when I go down to my granddaughter's musical I will go down and visit with her depending of course ...
we had hamburger steak mashed potatoes and carrot/sugar snap peas .... Safeway used to have a frozen mixture of carrots and sugar snap peas that was so good but they no longer do so.... so occasionally I will make my own ....
