Cold Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Cold Thursday

Postby Colliemom » Thu Jan 06, 2022 9:12 am

Morning all. Shirl, you’re slipping. It’s 9:02 a.m. and you haven’t got the Coffee on yet  Cold morning out here this morning, 10° with a real feel of 4°. Have about 5 inches of snow all total I think out there. I cleared 2 1/2 yesterday and it snowed more after that. Will take care of it later.

Nothing special on my agenda today. Did get the stuff from the trailer sorted, put away or into box for Goodwill. Started prepping bathroom for painting, now for some sanding in a few places. Will go get paint tomorrow.

Thought I would share this with you. This is the scale my mother used to weigh me in when I was a baby. We’ve kept it all these years and used for weighing cuts of meat and other stuff before freezing it. I just weighed out one pound packages of ground beef the other Dsy to freeze, so it comes in handy. Image

Velda, I’ll bet it feels good having a nice open kitchen with everything moved out. Good way to clean and sort through stuff. But then it’s time to put it back in place. I had a full length wall China cabinet at my last house that we had moved from the lake house. Beautiful place to display China, late collection, knick knacks etc. and store stuff in the lower part. But I got tired of having t dust the stuff, amazing how things behind glass door gets dusty, and also decided to open the space as well. So I donated a lot of the stuff, kept a few of my favorite collectors plates, my cousin took the Crystal ware I no longer needed or wanted and then sold the hutch. Made a big difference with that open wall. Room looked bigger. Put some knotty pine wainscoting on the lower half, painted it a contrasting color to the wall and wow, the look was dramatic. Got lots of compliments on it.

Beth, sounds like you have a great camping spot now.

Gues it’s time to get moving along here. Have a nice day all.

Morning Sue and All, I have been up and coffee long gone. Sunny and cold but nothing like Sue’s temps. Snow tonight but just enough time make a mess and roads slick. Sue, love the scale, memories. I have the wooden stool to Aunt Polly’s organ. Can remember at age 3 sitting on that stool singing Jesus Loves Me at the top of my lungs. Aunt Polly was the best, we ate stinky onion sandwich’s. Lol I have been shopping, on line, ordered a cane (steps have suddenly gotten scary), some kn95 mask, seeds for butterfly garden. Will try winter sowing in milk jugs. Going to fix stuffed cabbage casserole in the slow cooker for dinner. Did take candles out of windows, unplugged fairy lights and removed garland from balcony railing. That’s my news. Be safe

Karen, have been thinking off you but forgetting to post. Glad you are feeling better.
Judy, I hate going to the dentist, feel better.

Son got out of hospital. I have not talked to them today, but they are supposed to fly back to California today. I picked up motorhome last night after dark, and battery was dead so refrigerator was off. stuff was cold, although not frozen. Battery recovered as I drove to campground. Got parked and used just electric, and am right now at Camping World having them look at my flickering TVs in bedroom and hall.

Oh, Sue, what a cool memento to have kept all of these years. And it still works, too! They sure don't make stuff today like they used to.

Thanks for the photo. I always enjoy "trips down memory lane".

Good morning. I continue to be on the mend but dang it is slow. Still have a bad cough which is the really annoying part. Cough too much, throat and chest hurt. The chest part is muscular. But just going to continue hanging out. I have nowhere I need to go. Lots of groceries around here but I sure dont have much of an appetite, I have lost 6lbs but I am sure as soon as I am truly better that wil be recouped LOL Judy's son is improved, good sign. Sue has the coolest scale around. Shirl is doing her winter gardening. I haven't even had enough energy to shop online.........now that is pathetic. Surprised my mailman, UPS, and Fedex isnt checking to see if I am still alive LOL Shirl good for you getting a cane, will just stabilize you so much more. We dont want anything untoward happening to you.

just had some breakfast, french toast and sausage. Tasted good but couldnt eat it all. After a bit I will throw my bedsheets in the washer and take a shower, not necessarily in that order ha ha.

Good Morning! Things are a mess here with probably at least 3 feet of snow and still coming down hard. Cars are completely covered. Schools are closed which is rare. They are comparing this to 1996 so not something that happens every year. I don't remember the last time I saw snow drifts. Don't have to go anywhere so enjoying it. :) Happy to not still be in the camper and to have the Sling in a garage! It's suppose to be 41 degrees tomorrow so that poses problems with snow falling off roofs so people are searching for someone to come clear them.

Sue, that scale is awesome! Shirl, you are making me think about plants for the patio again. I'd have to rely on Monica to come water when I'm gone on trips. I think I can keep the hibiscus my BFF gave me one more summer, but then it will be to big to bring inside again next winter. Sheila, glad you got the pellet stove going!

Sue, that scale is awesome without the history. But it's beyond awesome with it.

Karen, keep posting. I'm worried about you. This is hanging on so dang long.

Anita, I know how gorgeous that is. I keep saying I'd like to fly into a ski resort somewhere one winter and just sit inside for a week with hot chocolate and watching the snow. I loved that part of it.

No propane company so far today. I'm guessing their schedule is still off from the holidays. I don't have anywhere to be and have enough propane, so no biggie.

Afternoon all. I’ve been saying all day I was going to post and here I am late in the afternoon. It’s been that kind of day. The train came through town very early and that means they lay on the horn the whole way! Then on my way home from finally going to the store I heard it on its return trip through town so I figured I’d duck down one of the side streets to get home but so did a bunch of other people! And I was literally 2 houses from my driveway! So I just had to sit in the line of cars! So much for that idea! It was a long coal train and it went on for several minutes! But at least it wasn’t anything like on 95 the other day! Tina, been thinking about you wanting to escape for warmer climate. Don’t know which way you would travel but it doesn’t look good in KY or TN this afternoon! The first forecasts seemed like the snow would probably miss us but today it’s looking like it’s going to come in tonight into tomorrow with ice and snow. It certainly looks like winter has finally arrived! I put the car in the garage and that’s where it will stay for the next few days! Snowblower is where I can get to it if we get enough snow! Otherwise the shovel is on the porch and ready to go too! I love being retired and not having to drive in the bad stuff! I can actually kinda enjoy it now! I remember coming home from work one evening and had to keep stopping to clean the ice off my windshield. I kept muttering that I was just going to park right there until spring! Didn’t enjoy it that winter! Karen, glad you’re starting to feel better. I managed to get something and have been feeling yucky the last couple of days. I’ve been doing what I have to do but that’s about all. Just babying my stomach and nose. Judy, glad you made it back and son out of the hospital. Beth, will you be where you get to stay put for awhile? You’ve probably said but my brain has forgotten! Time to go around and close blinds and turn a couple of lights on in the front room. Have a good evening and stay safe.

It is cold here too!!! It was snowing and 22 degrees this morning as we headed to my cataract surgery about 16 miles from here. Traffic wasn't bad the direction we were going but roads were not great. The other lane though was stopped there were so many cars. Surgery went better than I expected and so glad it is over. We left here at 8 and didn't get back until 12:30. That did include a 45 minute stop at the optometrist to look at my eye so we didn't have to drive back that way this afternoon. I felt pretty good at first but now really tired, probably too much stress. I still can't see much everything is blurry but should get better in 24-48 hours. Also I didn't have coffee this morning so had a headache by the time I got home. It's a challenge taking care of the dogs even if Emma is with Nancy. Thankfully the puppy sitter wore her out so she slept all afternoon. DH never feeds the dogs and doesn't bend over easy. I'm not supposed to bend over but do a good squat, thanks to years of yoga. Thankfully one of my friends brought me soup for last night an today!!

Sue I have a scale like that but no pictures on it. I love yours!! Karen I hope you feel much better soon. Did you have a flu or covid? This area has really high cases and the university is opening and only asking that students get tested within 48 hours of returning to campus. Unbelievable!!

Sharon, it was my choice to move. That said, I get antsy just sitting, so it feels like I made a move, even if it's just a minute away lol I expect I'll be in this site until I leave here in March. And if all goes according to plan I'll come back to this site sometime next fall/winter.

I guess I didn't do much today.... been trying to think of what and not much is coming to mind... did compose a list for the store put some recipes in my computer and look for a recipe couldn't find it so will have to copy mom's in to my computer... I must have it somewhere as I make it every so often... then did some Swedish Weave bound and determined that I am going to get it done further on one side than the other usually do a few rows and then go to the other side but this side is so close to being done that I may just finish it...... have only 14 or 15 rows left on the afghan that I am crocheting on. went to the store and got not much for what I spent actually went over the receipt as it seemed to add up to more than I expected!!! but won't need to go for a few days... then stopped at the food truck it looks like it's a 1 butt kitchen with 3 adult men in it... but the food is good... got one serving which is 3 pieces of cod and fries... we did ok but I think next time I will get an extra piece of fish so we can both have 2 pieces....
while doing my swedish weave I chatted on the phone with a friend of mine. she used to go to Q but then her husband got so he didn't feel he could do anything that you need to do so they quit going probably 3 years ago had been going for 30 years I think they said a long time anyway then he passed away a year ago think on Christmas eve... was good visiting with her... I try to see her when I'm in Ogden...
so that was a run down on my day
text my dd she replied back that she had been sick since they got back to Ogden right after Christmas... a bad cold think her husband has been tested twice both time negative... wonder if it's similar to what you have had Karen... glad you are feeling better as they say though don't over do... and so glad that your son in out of the hospital Judy it's just too bad that this vaca wasn't what they expected to do... not much sight seeing involved or family time for that matter...
according to the car it was 36 out today when I went to the store... lots of melting water running down the streets it's going to be wicked when it gets down to freezing which after looking at the phone that isn't happening until Sat Am like 2 or 3 till then we are having a heat wave it's still 36 and high tomorrow will be 37 but it's not going down to freezing so that is good...
I ought to run to the post office though I didn't want to stop cause I didn't want the food to get cold...so didn't stop  when I'm out will have to take a picture of the over hang
you all have a great day
