Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Tuesday

Postby Othersharon » Tue Dec 28, 2021 10:37 am

Good morning. Snow was over by noon yesterday and then it rained the rest of the day. Guess it’s supposed to maybe do the same thing late this afternoon! Temps are unusually high for this time of year. I have a couple of things to do today but earlier then later. Judy, will be thinking about you today as you make your way to your son’s. Glad to hear you are getting some rain out west. And heard about snowfall in Donner. I can remember a couple of trips going over it in the middle of winter. Chains required and a scary ride as a youngster!
I got some replacement toner for my printer this morning. My printer’s been telling me for months that it was low and it really meant it finally the other day! Ordered ones that are supposed to work with my printer so sure hope they do. I saved a bunch of money by not getting the name brand ones. Fingers crossed and hope they work! Shirl, did you get the nasty weather too yesterday? And Sue, are you shoveling out? Or maybe snow blowing? Nothing much else happening so guess I should go get ready to get out of the house and get my errands run so I can get home before it turns bad again. Round 2! Have a good day and as usual, stay safe.

Morning Sharon and All, sunny and 46°. Sharon, it was cloudy and drizzled yesterday. Our predicted temps for next couple weeks is high 40’s to low 50 and lots of showers. I usually leave the Christmas tree up into January because it brightens the dreary days. I have a package to pick up from friends porch. I wait until the mail is delivered so I only have to suit up once. I now carry a small canvas big that contains car keys, apartment keys, cell phone small handbag, extra mask and need to remember to wear a mask. It’s my go bag so I don’t forget anything. Gone are the days of pretty handbags and trying to look nice. Now you just want to get in and out alive. When you were young did you look at the elderly woman carrying a ratty bag and pushing a grocery cart, well it’s me so stop staring. Lol Need to run the errands. Be safe

Good Morning,
Shirlv you crack me up!! Sharon I hope the printer ink works I hear mixed reviews. My printer is so old I have a hard time finding ink for it.
The sun just came out! It has been a dark and dreary morning. I need to go to the store and also check out a new dog groomer. It is hard to find one but I saw I poodle this groomer did and it looked very nice. I'm driving a half hour to the one we are using now and she doesn't always do that great plus they don't wear masks in the office.
The puppy is out of her pen playing so she will be ready for a nap in her play pen while we go to the store. First time we have left her alone. I have a sitter coming for when I have cataract surgery on Jab 6th. It is going to be a challenge taking care of her as I understand I can't bend over for a few days. DH doesn't bend well so we shall see, might need that sitter a few days!

Morning, Sharon, and all who follow. I have lived in northern California for more than 40 years, and have lived about 80 miles or so from Donner Summit all of those years. One time, about 20 years or so ago, a friend came for a visit and wanted to go to Reno (Nevada) to try their luck on the $$slot machines$$. It was late summer as I recall, so no road worries on Interstate 80 (which is closed last night due to blizzard conditions).

As we approached Donner Summit I began to tell my friend about the Donner Party. This person was always kind of prickly anyway, and as I finished the story they began to get a bit angry - they had never heard of the Donner Party, and thought that I was lying to them.

There was nothing I could say otherwise without escalating the situation (by this time this person was almost steaming), so I just kept mum.

. . . That is, until I made an unscheduled exit off of the freeway. . . I had remembered that there was a memorial there, and decided that my friend needed to see it, whether they liked it or not.

At first my friend was still unbelieving, but as we pulled into the parking lot (memorial signs everywhere) and then walked through the small exhibit (there used to be a building there, I don't know if it is still there anymore or not) the truth of what I had said became undeniable.

Suddenly, it was my friend's turn to remain mum, LOL, although I could see they were still seething.

I have a Canon ink jet printer whose "official" Canon cartridges cost about $35.00. Each. And there are four of them. And the ink in them seems to last about a week.

About a year ago I got tired of this, and went on Amazon and purchased a "set" of off-brand inkjet cartridges that included four sets of four (total of 16 cartridges) for about $19.00, total.

Of course, all printer manufacturers say that if one tries to use off-brand inkjet cartridges in their printer, the printer will be toast. I didn't care, I was fed up with spending a couple of hundred dollars a year for inkjet cartridges, and at this point didn't really care if these cartridges "toasted" my printer or not, because I was about ready to toss this dang cartridge-eating printer anyway.

The upshot of this long boring story is that the off-brand cartridges have worked just fine over the last year, with no problems at all. My printer continues to hum away, and is definitely not toast. 8-)

I hope that you don't encounter any problems, either.

Good morning. Our "snow event" is over. We got 6 inches and then this morning maybe just 1 inch. It is now 36° so should start melting soon. I didnt have anywhere I needed to go so just enjoyed how pretty it is. The hills and higher elevations got much more. We had lots of black ice here this morning on the highways so the news said. Even tho our temps are going down to the high 20's doesnt look like any precipitation will be impacted.

I think I have had a cold the last couple of days. Runny nose and cough. No sore throat, no temp so I am not thinking Covid. Of course that is where our brain takes us but I have not even left the house for a week or more and have no intentions of going anywhere so no real reason to go "get tested" that is the first thing anyone says. And if you get tested and not real sick they say go home, drink fluids, take tylenol and rest. OK got that covered. I feel very much better this morning. I dont plan on interacting with anyone so even if it was Covid I am quarantining. I really feel just like it was a cold. And a slight cold at best. So all good now.

Just going to lay low today. I took my Fitbit off the other day to charge it and take a shower and havent put it back on until this morning LOL Guess I didnt need to see the time for a couple days ha ha

I got tired of buying ink cartridges too. They cost more than the printer. So I invested in a laser printer. The ink doesnt dry out ever. I just changed my first cartridge (the one that came with the printer=mini cartridge lol) a few months ago. It prints so much faster than the ink jet. I didn't find the toner cartridges expensive either. I bought two and just replaced the one a while back. I bought the cheap ink jets once but the HP printer wouldnt accept them so wasted my money in that respect. Ink cartridges were $40-50 for the color and black. Laser cartridge was $49 so I think I did good. Now I bought the cheaper laser printer as it doesnt print in color, heck I didnt care.

Anne, why was your friend getting so angry by your story? Glad you set him/her straight, whether they liked it or not!

That is a ton of snow at Tahoe and so early in the season!! Too bad they didn't have that last winter. Might have helped lessen the fire damage out there this past summer. Hopefully, by the time all the snow melts in the spring, it won't melt too fast and cause more problems in the burn areas.

I woke up to get ready for putters golf this morning and it was only 42 degrees and windy (39* windchill) , so I rolled over and went back to sleep! I am a fair weather golfer!

I have a lot of housecleaning to do today so I need to get my butt out of bed soon and get at it.

I bought myself a new throw blanket for Christmas. It is SO soft, warm, and fuzzy, but very lightweight! I got one just like it a few years ago but it finally wore out. Love this one!

Enjoy your day! :D

I just love it when you have to prove to someone that something is real. I have no trouble with someone questioning something, but keep quiet and look it up before making a fool of yourself.

I've had good luck with the refilled and generic ink cartridges. That said, I ended up giving away my last printer (and no longer have one) because the original ink cartridges dried up quickly and so did replacements. Just not worth it for me anymore.

I got my mail and everything I was hoping would be in it was, so I'm all caught up on most. I say it that way because I got my stickers for my license plates but haven't put them on yet. I have a month lol

Nothing to sho pvel out from around here O’Sharon. We did about 2 inches Mixed with freezing drizzle on Monday, but few passes with the blower and done. Supposed to have another round like that, late this afternoon and tonight into tomorrow morning. Sounds like Saturday might be pretty active they are saying. Too esrly to pin down exact details yet. But that’s a darn lot of snow in Donner Pass.

I decided to run to town and pick up a few things at the store, go to Credit Union etc. Had lunch at Culver's and on home. Then a 2 + mile walk with the dogs. So, there goes the day. I will paint some sign lettering later on here. Not planning on putting it back out till weekend, first part of next week, depending on how soon I finish it and also the weather. Figure I will remove my Christmas decorations out there at the same time. Pulled out the 2 candy canes I had on each side of the flower box today. Wanted to get them out before the ground freezes any deeper and I can’t get them out.

Otherwise nothing new. It’s very quiet up here. Not a lot of traffic, people are up a second homes here and there, but other than skiing, nothing much happening the winter sports dept. Stores aren’t any busier than normal. Late fall, winter and early spring are my favorite times up here. It’s quiet, not much traffic, nobody but us locals and those who come in for shopping from the smaller communities. On weekends in winter it gets busy on the snowmobile trails and the hotels, restaurants etc. The snowbirds left long ago and won’t be back till April at earliest.

We are having scattered showers but it still made it to 80 degrees. The noon weather said we could have 30 mph wind but I don't find it as windy as yesterday. Sugar and I just barely got our walk in without getting wet.

I ordered ink cartages for my Canon printer from Inkjetsrus.com and they work fine. They are less than half the price Canon wants.

Shirl, your ratty bag is funny. I had to go weigh my purse just to see how much it weighs. It's 7 pounds and that's after I took out the 2 sets of camper keys that probably weigh a pound by themselves. At the last campout one of my friends said one of the games was going to be taking my purse to the club house and going through it. Every time I go through it everything goes back in because I might need it. About the best I can do is take a handful of change out. I am probably to the point that I can take the envelope with the legal papers out. I have needed them so many times that I just carry them all the time. I am forever going off without my phone. I have carried one so long I feel necked with out it. lol I can think of all the things that might go wrong if I'm on the road without my phone.

BJ, I need to find a cat sitter so I can be gone longer than 3 days.

Son did not get ERCP scope today but is supposed to get it tomorrow. I the meantime he is getting morphine and doing a lot of sleeping.

On another topic, I have reached a new low. As I was getting off the plane in Cleveland today, I was asked if I needed a wheelchair!!!

Planes about 75% full so I was lucky to have empty seat next to me
on both planes

Found out today that my doctor is refusing to renew my anti-depression meds because I haven't been in to see her since last April! So she is gonna just cut me off them cold turkey! That isn't gonna be fun for me at all. I can really tell the difference even when I forget to take them for one day. I have an appointment with her now for January 19th but she won't renew them until then. I told the receptionist that I really need to be on them until then and to ask if she will just give me enough til my appointment. Haven't heard back...I am out of meds as of tonight. :(

I think I need a new doctor. I found one locally that sounds good, and takes my insurance but I can't switch primary doctors for another month since I just missed the deadline for January.

I wasn't much in the mood for cleaning after that. Been perusing the internet all day, watching Youtube videos, reading online books and going thru old emails.

Was a nice sunny but cool day, but now we have a "huge" winter storm coming early tomorrow into Friday. Several feet of snow expected in the local mountains and a lot of rain, even in the desert here. We are under a flash flood watch.

Shoulders are still doing good today. :D I ordered a multi-vitamin that has hemp CBD oil in it so that will help with inflammation, as well as hopefully keep my mood up and anxiety down. :)

I keep looking for the brick in my purse. I know there has to be one in there somewhere!

so pretty much have nothing to report what did I do not much went out and got the garbage can snow in the driveway was ankle deep and there is or was a hang over on the garage hopefully it lets loose sometime ... assume nephew will come over and take care of the walks tomorrow he needs to come get his daughter anyway or most likely she will be here...
we are at 18 didn't look to see what the high was but not much higher than now I'm sure... last night mom didn't switch channels after Wheel of Fortune asked her what she was watching she didn't know just wanted something different I said if you want different then put it on 504 and I got to watch the FBI's shows all three of them but tonight she switched channels...guess she was afraid I'd want more of the same... but actually not sure what is on on Weds.. so it was the rerun's again .... I think my chief complaint with the Hallmark is as long as they've been on why don't they pull movies from 14 years ago or 7 or whenever no reason to have to same show shown more than twice in a season... oh well it is what is...
Did I mention that I made a pecan pie for Christmas dinner??? it was/is so good... I may have made one in the past but wouldn't swear to it if so it was years ago... like before Larry passed away ... I think my eldest daughter's xhusband like pecan may have made one then.. I am going to have to go find the recipe and put it in my file... so when I want to make it again I will be able to find it... that is if I can find it still
any ideas of what to do... mom's pain med which is Tylenol generic 500 she can have up to 4 a day but 6 hours between... it's a when needed... we write it down (my brother came up with a spread sheet that has what she takes like her thyroid pill in morning before breakfast and space to write down when she has a pain pill... she either doesn't think to forgets or doesn't want to write it down... so then we go through this when did you last take a pain pill... and try to figure it out so we can see if she can have it... so suggestions I'd love to let her just do it on her own so she can at least feel somewhat in control... but don't know what to do she just had one at 9:30 and just now came out with one I had to tell her she can't have it till 3:30 AM not happy but she waits till she is really hurting enough that I have been asking her when was the last time she had one... then there is the spitting up phlegm gone through a box of kleenix in a week plus part of one and it's not the cheap stuff that is what I'm going to get when I go to the store next is el cheapo she has a container to spit into but she doesn't want to use it... this is the lady that rinsed out zip lock bags to reuse not that I'm advocating reusing the kleenix  but lots cheaper to spit into the plastic container... it is just so not sure what... but it is

Sheila, they do have devices that pop out a pill on a measured schedule. Something like this might prevent your mother from taking too much tylenol.
