Wednesday December 22

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Wednesday December 22

Postby Shirlv » Wed Dec 22, 2021 9:56 am

Morning All, sunny and 40°this morning. I agree if the sun is shining it’s a good day. Christmas tree lights help on the gloomy ones. Martha, I tried the Sam’s pickup in Dover and it was a disaster. I have a choice of driving across the congested bay bridge or drive country roads an hour. A couple months ago I ordered 13 items, drive an hour and Sam’s loaded 3 items. No email or any warning. My family shops Sam’s regularly and ask if I want anything so I place an order with them. I think the techie’s of the world giggle as they change the names of familiar items to something senior’s do not recognize. Well pox on them because I have google and YouTube. I can even spell and pronounce “charcuterie “ or Char Board. I can change names too. My gripe of the day. Lol off to pick up deli items. Be safe

Relax

Morning Shirl. Again I was up and just hanging out watching the news and having some coffee. I am going to get my long overdue eye exam this morning. Only been 5-6 years ha ha I have been busy getting my shots for the macular degeneration the last couple of years so glasses were the least of my worries. But now since I am stable and at an 8 week interval (started out at 4 weeks) between shots, going to get new glasses.

I dont much care for ordering online so I go in but I go super early. I bought enough groceries the other day to last me a few weeks. I think it is a great service tho for people who enjoy it. Amazon is my downfall, or at least it was. I just dont need anything right now but ya know that can change in a second LOL Taking my turkey hindquarter out today to put in the fridge to thaw. I found a recipe for Pecan pie for two. You make it in a 6inch pie plate, but of course I dont have one that size..................so Amazon won again!!!!! Sheesh.

Shirl, I laughed out loud when I saw this on FB this morning.

Karen, there seems to always be something in my Amazon cart. If it sits long enough I often delete it. But I also have way too many things in "save for later". Lots are to be able to find them again easily when (if) I decide on them.

I'm still not dressed but that needs to change soon as Ty has decided to get up.

As usual, I'm still drinking coffee at 10:30. The temperature is already up to 59 so think our warm up has started. It will probably be in the 80's for Christmas.

Yesterday when I was in the grocery store one of the guys that works in the meat department was checking the cases. I ask him if they ever have turkey thighs and he didn't know. I bought a package that had two turkey wings and might cook them for Christmas. They had pork loin on sale so bought one. I wanted to try making schnitzel. I cut two one inch slices and pounded them flat. I found a can of Campbell's Pork Gravy. I had never seen that before. I might try cooking that for lunch. I like to go shopping in person because you never know what you will find. I'm willing to try just about anything once.

I had thought about going to Office Depot to see if I could find a filing cabinet but remembered I have my mammogram tomorrow. I can look for one then. It has to be one that will fit under the table my TV is on.

Sheila, please get some night lights so you or your mother don't fall again getting up at night.

Beth, that's funny. I saw something like that on Facebook about how kids raised on lunchables served them now but didn't know how to share it with Shirl.

Good one Beth. :D No experience with lunchables I was generation of moving rabbit ears to get Howdy Doody on our 10” tv for my baby brother. Got all the fixings for char board and anxious to set it up on Friday. Still trying to figure how to transport it without delivering it a big pile on a board. I can not find potatoes O’Brien in any stores hopeful after holidays. Remembered I have a gift card for a dinner at the local Adam’s Rib restaurant. Ribs for New Years Eve sounds like a winner. Think I’m ready for the holidays.

Good afternoon ladies!

Shirl, I've been following your posts on the "fancy" board you'll be fixing. No doubt everyone will enjoy it.

Karen, I cringe every time you mention the needles in the eyes. My Mom had macular degeneration, but I think she waited too late and on top of the histoplasmosis in her other eye, she was legally blind for a long time.

Martha, I hope your schnitzel turns out.

We're having friends over late this afternoon for some Christmas cheer and we've been doing that a lot lately. Between entertaining and practicing for services, my body is saying enough already. But we love doing what we do, so I'll quit complaining. It's chilly today in central FL and my body is saying ouch again. Okay, I'll quit complaining.

Got my exam done. Came home and bought a pair of glasses on Zenni. Actually I bought 2 pair. 1 progressives and 1 just for distance. $97, cant beat that. If I like them I will order a couple more pairs and a pair of sunglasses. I need to try them first with my new prescription. I know it takes a while to adjust so that is my plan.

So instead of buying an Espresso machine I bought myself a Gourmia Meal Station. It is supposed to cook a steak perfectly. It is a smokeless grill and air fryer so we will see. The video looked like something I could use frequently. I dont like my steaks done in the air fryer and this sears them at 510 degrees so lets hope so. I am going to cook pork steak tonight to test it out. Need to get my beets in the Instant Pot soon so I can get them cooked and peeled. Beth your picture of the Char board cracked me up. Lunchables exactly!!!! Oh and I need to take my cardboard tomorrow and a box for the donation center.

Hope everyone has a fun and happy Christmas holiday.

They are hash browns, just a specific kind. I've always purchased them at Walmart. Sometimes where it says O'Brien isn't as obvious as this picture. But they're with the frozen hash browns.

As to lunchables, I know them only because we sold them at the convenience store in Keystone. They are quite popular with families for the kids.

Karen, keep us posted about your new purchase.

Finally got access to my aunt's health records from her current memory care doctor and had to do a lot of looking up of terms. Can't they just speak English?? Funny part was when her "Vitals" showed her to be 58 centimeters tall (translates to 1' 11") and had a BMI of 184. That body mass index for someone who was even 4' 11" tall, which is her real height, would require her to weigh over 900 lbs. :o Now, just visualize THAT!!

Went on my boat tour of Myakka Lake today. Lots of alligators sunning themselves because it was chilly last night and cool today. Lots of tourists in state park today. I like this place, but my site has full hookup. Only problem is hookup is way behind my site and is at least 10" above the ground, so dumping has been a real challenge because I have to back up my rig and try to stretch out my sewer hose. It ends up that I have to "walk" the sewage back, so I am going to use the regular dump station from now on.

Love that lunchables post, Beth!

Thank you Beth, found the hash brown on the Walmart pickup site.

Martha, they say coffee is good for your brain. If you go camping and find your way home the coffee is a good thing.

Well I am a bit late here today. It has been quite the day. Got woke up this morning by my phone which was going on and off because the power was trying to go out. It kept going on and off and finally went out altogether. Outage map showed a long narrow area about 15 miles long. Hmmmmm. This was at 6:3 a.m. Estimated Repair Time (ETR) was around 10 a.m. So I have no heat, no water, no Cable, No Internet etc. I have a bunch of lanterns and oil lamps here though. Decided to go into basement and work on the name sign, needed to be sanded. Then I brought one section up to paint. Checked in ETR and now it’s 1 p.m. House was starting to get cool but not too bad. So went back down, sanded another section and brought that up and painted it. ETR was now 4:15 p.m. By early afternoon house was down to 66. Fortunately I have plenty of fleece here, so I was okay. I sat in my chair and played games on my I Pad that didn’t need internet. I had snow to blow out there, but didn’t feel like manually hassling with the garage door, so it will be there tomorrow. Over to one of my neighbors for just a while to charge my phone back up because although it was fully charged it was running down. They have a generator so they had electric. One of my other neighbors said that if the power didn’t come back on pretty soon she was going to make goulash for dinner and was going to bring me some hot food down. She too has a generator. I could have gone over to her house and I would have if the power had been off much longer because the house was starting to get a little chillier. But lo and behold at 4:15 for power came on. Found out that some nobody hit a pole and caused the pole to fall. That set off a gas leak. And a second line came down that was attached to another pole, when the first one fell. Well because of the gas leak the electric company could not do anything until the gas company was able to get in and shut off the gas and then repair the gas line. So it was a chain reaction. The gas leak caused about 6 homes to be evacuated. The outage affected 1600 people. Now all’s well, house is toasty and everything’s up and running. So I headed to the kitchen and made supper :) Just as I was finishing a neighbor came by and dropped me off a plate full of Christmas goodies :D that is the longest I have been without power for quite some time. Needless to say, I don’t think I will be up late tonight. But first, will take my long awaited shower I didn’t get this morning

I woke up in a lot of pain in both my shoulders but worse in my right shoulder. I have a special pillow that keeps me sleeping on my back all night to avoid me rolling onto my side and putting pressure on my shoulders. Still had pain tho.

Once I got to work, I slathered a bunch of the CBD balm on both shoulders. Within an hour, the pain was all but gone! Yay! Made it thru the day fine. It is fun working with my manager. We get along so well. She is very easy-going. When I swept today, I used short, slow, easy strokes so maybe that will help. My manager wouldn't let me sweep up hair from her cuts today.

Have tomorrow off but lots to do. :o Gotta do some laundry, wrap presents, deliver cards to neighbors, take my car in to get the tail light fixed, drop off overdue books at the library, etc, etc. Plus pack up stuff for going up to Joshua Tree with Linda for Christmas. I will go after work on Friday. I need to come back Saturday evening since I have to work again on Sunday. Will be glad when Christmas is over. I can finally relax and get some things done without feeling overwhelmed. I want to get back to working on my gourds. I need to get started on practicing how to wood burn designs on them. I can do that outside with the nicer weather.

I have my new little humidifier going tonight. I bought some distilled water yesterday to use in it. Hopefully, it will help both Lola and I to feel less dried out!

Funny meme, Beth! Those O'Brien potatoes you showed a photo of are the spicy hot ones. It is a little harder to find ones that don't have the peppers and onions in them. Maybe that makes the soup better, but I need the plain ones. My tummy doesn't handle spicy foods very well.

Sue, glad you finally got your power back on. Hopefully, you didn't lose anything in your fridge or freezer in that time. You must have a pretty well insulated house to stay fairly comfortable for so long.

...there seems to always be something in my Amazon cart. If it sits long enough I often delete it. But I also have way too many things in "save for later". Lots are to be able to find them again easily when (if) I decide on them.

That is exactly what I do too! I put stuff in my cart and then move them to my "save for later" list so I can find them easily. Eventually I will buy those things as needed/wanted. I have an e-bike in there right now while I wait to sell my golf cart. I will work on that next week.

I want to contribute something for the dinner at Linda's friend's house this weekend. Am thinking of keeping it simple and making cole slaw. I use a family recipe with pineapple bits and mini marshmallows. :D

Speaking of food, I need to make some goulash and chili soon. Perfect winter comfort food, even if "winter" is 60 degrees outside. I have a pound of hamburger in the freezer that I can cook up to use for both of them. I like to cook up hamburger and then put it is freezer bags (about a quarter to half pound per bag) and freeze it until I need some for a recipe. Just saves me a step later when I want to make something that calls for hamburger.

Just gonna read or play on the internet until it is time for bed here. Too tired to do anything constructive!

Have a good night!

got a text as I was reading my scriptures telling me that my brother and mom would be leaving soon to come back today.... tying to beat a storm... so hustled and got floors mopped carpet vacuumed and something else can't remember now what it was...they left about 12:30 got here about 4ish.... when I was planning supper for tomorrow night thinking that is when she would be home but when I looked at the recipe on line (can't find mine and sister can't find her's who is where I got it) so googled it but couldn't remember it having ro-tel tomatoes in my sister said it did so had to go to store for something sister in law forgot to pack and something for supper since I didn't plan on having anyone here probably would have had ramen lol so got the ro-tel will do it tomorrow tonight was hot dogs tasted good... occasionally enjoy them...
it will be fun to see the "board" all done Shirl you are up on me can't pronounce it or spell it
Martha we will be doing something brother brought over a couple of night lights one is in a socket now but the other one not sure where to put it furniture is either close to or in front of the plugins in the room still think a motion thing would work out well but need to so some more thought...
I so am not ready for Christmas I am normally late so that won't surprise anyone but then I'm not normally with family so it seems more off to be late... perhaps I out to run and got to the bank before the storm hits unless it does it earlier than expected... you know me and getting up early going to have to change that like tomorrow...
phooey was just thinking of something that I wanted to make and don't have the main ingredient or enough of it it's called cracker candy... don't have the cracker's!!!
I made the soup last night used the o'brien potatoes I think (I maybe wrong) but I think what makes them O'brien is the onion's and peppers.... actually didn't taste any spice to it but then I am not sensitive to spice although I don't like the heat index to be well should say hot  more a mild girl myself... although I wonder if it would work if one used regular hash browns the cubed type not shredded and added onions to it leave out the green pepper's if that would work
I know what it was my sister in law called from Iowa and we had a good chat it's been awhile...
never been one to wish I had a food scales but right now I do have seen a candy on Emmy made fudge with 3 ingredients basically chips she used bitter sweet I got semi sweet ant think mom would think that is still too dark so was thinking I could take half a bag of sweet and half a bag of semi sweet and hopefully make us both happy ... she doesn't do dark and my preference is dark although I will eat milk just prefer the other... the bag is 12 oz bags guess I should re-watch the video see what size she used... but thought it was the smaller size... it's all they had...
guess she is tired of waiting for me to go turn off the lights... think that is the direction she went probably should go turn them out...
That will be fun to go with Linda for Christmas have fun Barbie
the stay at home chef has a schnitzel recipe that looks yummy and really easy... been going to do it but think I kept forgetting to get something... or I did try it may have just don't recall for positive
that was a long time to be out of powder Sue reminded one time of the electricity being out at the ranch remember using a straw and blowing into the aquarium tank to get air to the fish now why they didn't freeze to death I don't remember it may have be after my dad and sister died and things are hazy
sounds like you got a pretty good deal Karen hope you like them... I don't like my glasses not sure if I will order new ones or just go to the store and get them that way...
you all have a great day

Barbie, there are no spicy peppers in the O'Brien hash browns. The ingredients are potatoes, onions, green and red bell peppers. That said, you could easily use hash browns without them. I certainly don't taste any spice in this recipe. Now maybe you don't like bell peppers either?

Sheila, it seems the family changes plans daily. They are lucky you go along with it all so gracefully.
