Lyn, at moment, Temple Square in Salt Lake City, is closed. A major 4 year upgrade, retrofit and construction project is in progress. They are rebuilding the foundations of the Temple and tore down I think the visitor center to replace it, while allowing access from that south side to the foundation of the Temple. I can't recall whether they are 1 or 2 years into the 4 year project. Other church buildings (History, Office building.etc ), which are not on the Square, are open during the project. A great opportunity may arise when the project is complete, but before the re-dedication of the Temple, as, usually in that short interval between construction completion and dedication, they have free tickets available to tour the Temple. Decades ago, while we lived in Hawaii, before Mel joined the church, we were stationed in Hawaii, and the Oahu Hawaii Temple had been built and we got tickets and toured the Temple before the dedication. What a wonderful experience it was for us both. Once it is rededicated, the Temple is open only to church members who have what we call a recommend, having been interviewed by our Bishop and the Stake Presidents team, and found worthy to enter that holiest of places for the learning experience it provides. Once dedication occurs, the other buildings on the grounds, the Tabernacle (where the great organ resides), and both visitor buildings will reopen to all.
