Sunny Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunny Tuesday

Postby Othersharon » Tue Dec 14, 2021 11:27 am

Good morning! Wow, we’re having another sunny day with almost 50! I’m enjoying it because tomorrow the rain moves back in! It’s kinda crazy not to be having snow but I’m sure it’ll come so I’ll take this for now! Sounds like you gals on the west coast are having some rain and snow. Karen, hope passes clear before your trip tomorrow. It was more evenly warm in the house last night. Nice to not feel the huge difference in temperature between the first and second floor this morning. I think Rascal and I will take advantage of the nice day and go for a walk. I have a bone density test scheduled today but that’s much later today. It’s a good thing I have reminders sent since it’s been scheduled for so long! I probably would have forgotten about it otherwise. I pulled out a recipe book of recipes my mom collected yesterday and found a couple of fun recipes she had saved. The neat thing was some that she took from newspapers and seeing the prices then vs now! Saw one for fresh lobster for $2.29 a pound! And one cut from a pudding box that was .27! I would guess most of them were from the 50’s and 60’s by seeing some of the dates on the newspapers. She had beautiful penmanship too! So that’s about it for me today. Time to bundle up and go for that walk. Have a great day and stay safe.

I got my checkup over with yesterday so should be good for another 4 years. lol I'm surprised they didn't mention me getting a bone density test. I guess since I won't take the medicine they gave up. My doctor is having to work out of another building because their office flooded from a broken pipe on the floor above. They seem a little disorganized. Now I have to make an appointment for a mammogram. They make you check in using a machine. I had a hard time understanding what they wanted and it wouldn't take what I entered. Grrrrrr I hate technology.

I left home at 11:30 and didn't make it home until almost 6:00. I was early for my appointment so stopped at TJ Maxx. When I headed for my appointment the traffic was so bad I was afraid I was going to be late. I have only been to the mall about once this year. It is not near as popular as it use to be and a lot of stores have closed. Macy's closed their second floor and the Sears store has been closed for several years.

Sharon, my sister ended up with my mother's cookbooks. My mother would send me an applesauce cake that was almost like a fruitcake when I was in college. I have ask my sister to look for that recipe and I haven't gotten it yet. My aunt and my mother would send me food packages and we looked forward to them. Postage must have been a lot cheaper back then.

It is 79 today and I had to turn the air conditioner on. It's suppose to get into the 80's tomorrow. I might have to go fishing again. I woke up with a headache and have tried treating it with coffee and food. Guess I will have to take something.

Sharon, those prices look good if we had them today. Weren't that great for back then. But I admit my mom made lobster tails as a treat occasionally for Sunday dinner.

Lyn, that's great. I hope the rain and snowfall the west is starting to get will be a big help both this winter and into next spring/summer.

I stayed in bed quite awhile this morning. It was foggy out and with that fog would come mosquitoes most likely. I haven't had a bite that I know of for over a week now and am trying to keep it that way. I'm also using the non-deet mosquito spray I bought. Maybe it's actually working.

Martha, I keep up with the bone density tests because even though I will no longer do their meds, it lets me know if my own vitamins, etc, that I take to help are helping. The one that helped the most I haven't been able to get in a few years now and it helped the most. It might be time for me to check for it again. (the forms of it I can find aren't what I want).

Music

Postby SoCalGalcas » Tue Dec 14, 2021 2:52 pm

I have been watching hours and hours of music on U Tube. Sheila, do ALL of the proformers at the Tabernacle in SLC have to belong to the church? Those profirmances are very, very beautiful. And, Irma, have you seen pictures of that organ and all the “stops “ it has?
I like the Celtic Women too. I just saw Christmas music from the Vienna Opera House. Magnificent performance. Lyn

Good Morning!

Finally some real snow yesterday! Cold temps today but sun is out.

Sue, your Christmas decor is awesome! Used to love projects like that although Steven was the artistic one. Tina, wishing you safe travels to warmer weather!

Plans changed and Monica came here for awhile Sunday afternoon. It was good to visit with no TV, no dogs and no man. :) We had planned to bake, but we opted to sit for a glass of wine instead. :) It was good to see her really relax. I had a chance to ask more about her job as a para with special needs kids. I truly takes a special person to deal with what she does with such patience.

I took yesterday to watch the snow and tv in order to rest my sore arm - not sure what that was about. I seldom watch TV during the day.

OK, if you read my post late last night, you know I got in late and had to go outside in long pants sprayed with Off and a long sleeved sweatshirt with the hood tied so I could only see through a small opening. Had to hook up electric and then add water to my fresh water tank. I did all that in the dark with a flashlight while seeing a lot of bugs flying around. And when I got back in, I smashed one fat mosquito. Very long drive yesterday, so I was really exhausted. Had a late dinner.

So, I got to sleep around 1 am and slept until about 9 when I got a phone call. Then went back to bed again and slept soundly until 1 am!! So, got up and opened all the drapes. Then heard the guy across the way start his diesel, and it sounded really loud--at which point, I discovered that somehow I had left the front passenger's window half down all night long!!! No mosquitos inside, however, other than the one I smashed last night. Started RV engine and put window up. This is the second time I have done this. The controls are on my door armrest, and it is easy to lean on it with your arm. Anyway, so far no new mosquito bites, and old ones are no longer bothering me. Put slide in, and also got my suitcase out to pack for my trip to Ohio after Christmas and put some stuff from inside in outside compartments. Also, it is really hot here--maybe 85 degrees and not much breeze. Got AC going and need to switch my down comforter on my bed back to my lightweight quilt. Nights have been in mid-60s, which is too hot for down. Supposed to drop to 50s next week, but quilt will be fine then, too.

Opened my suitcase and got out my winter coat, hat, and mittens. Then I reached into a suitcase pocket and found a large chocolate bar--very, very melted!! Trying to remember the last time I even used that suitcase, but it had to be a couple of years because of the pandemic!!!!!!! Am finally sitting down to rest and eat a late lunch, but really need to do some cleaning and organizing tonight. Tomorrow, I need to drive out to get some groceries. Later this week, I will go to visit the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota. They are always nice this time of year and are interesting because they specialize in air plants, which include insect-eating plants and orchids.

I have been up since 5:00 AM!! I think it was sunny most of the day but cloudy now. Yes the day has been a blur!! Keeping Toby separated from the puppy takes a lot of maneuvering. Plus Pippa doesn't seem to know how to eat. She refused to eat the dry kibble the breeder had been feeding so I gave her some A/D canned food mixed with warm water. I had to mix it with warm water as she didn't seem to know how to eat the solid food. Today she started eating the kibble and also a few bites of chicken cut into tiny shreds. I am really trying to get her to eat as she only weighed 2.7 pounds when she went to the vet last Friday!! She has also started to play and vocalize her displeasure with us yesterday. So this morning she screamed almost an hour after we got up wanting out of her pen. I didn't give in as I know if I did that battle would be lost. So now I try to get her out before she gets cranky! I think the breeder should have fed the shy dogs in the litter separate. Plus I was surprised she said she fed the kibble dry. Apparently though Pippa's shyness was all an act! It is 3:30 here now and I just had a shower and brushed my teeth.
I'm glad you are getting rain in the west!!

Evening All, was sunny all day and now dark and fairy lights are lit. Don’t know where the day went. Grocery pickup at Bjs went well. Finally got the bins stored away and then continued walking. You know one of those days when you are busy back and forth but nothing to show for it. Cooking a pot of green beans and will try frozen blacken salmon in the air fryer for dinner. BJ, I get regular pictures and updates on the Yorkie, Luca. My daughter thought a small pup would be easier to handle, not. Todays update was he now wakes up when I do, then “look out” lol. He is too fast for her to keep up with. My frugal daughter is getting estimates for a fence. I did find a puppy training video by McCann that looked good. Didn’t ask if it was helpful. Dinner time. Be safe

Oh BJ your post made me chuckle. I got Emma at 10 weeks, took her to the vet later that week for her shots, deworming, Heartguard, general checkup. She weighed 2.4lbs. She wasnt much of an eater either, and still isnt, but she isnt skinny so guess it is enough. She weighs 13.7 last vet check. I always add a topper to her food, chicken, some sort of meat, cheese, but not much. I guess we could say she is a wee bit spoiled. Yup we could say that and be accurate. She was never very vocal and still isnt, she has little "woof woof" if she sees another dog, or the doorbell rings. Only occasionally does she let out a much louder scream and it always involves other dogs. She is timid until she gets to know them then she is fine.
Pippa is just settling in being away from her littermates, she will learn the routines and house rules in the near future. Emma did that screaming thing (had to tell the neighbors I wasnt killing her) if I went outside and she was in her pen. Then I came in and just ignored her until she was quiet so you are doing it right. You will have lots of fun with her.....soon. LOL

So, I have to go to Medford tomorrow and of course they are predicting snow today. Snow warning from 8am tomorrow until 8am Thursday. I will be coming home Friday. I will evaluate in the morning and see if I need to cancel. We shall see. I do have 4WD and I dont have to leave until it warms up around noon so I think I will be good to go but we shall see. I dont hold alot of stock in our weather people they get all excited and salivate over bad weather and then not much comes of it.

Just got home from work. It was raining most of the way home and then quit. Then I drove into a dust storm! :o The wind is vicious down my way! Got home and the decorations on the front of the house as well as a picture I have hanging, were all blown down. My Xmas tree was blown over on my deck and balls were everywhere on the deck and on the patio. Found some in the grass behind the house. A piece of the lattice on the railing was blown off. I put the tree back up and tied it in two directions to the deck railing (hopefully that won't blow over! ). Now it is raining. I saw a big black storm (with heavy rain) heading this way and I think it just arrived. The wind is getting worse now! Looks like a hurricane out there! And the temp is dropping quick now. The storm has arrived!! I am hunkered down now with Lola in my room with the heat turned up and laying on a heating pad. Nice and toasty and (hopefully) safe! I am hearing palm fronds hitting the roof.

Work was a whole 'nother story. The manager relayed a message to us from the new owner who is very upset that there is too much talking and not enough working going on. She said no more talking, no more cell phones. That didn't sit well with anyone there. It wasn't so much the message (I agree with most of it) but the way it was delivered. I told the manager that many of us use our phones to listen to music with our headphones. He finally said that that would be OK as long as the phones were hidden. Everyone is afraid it is gonna get turned into a sweatshop and won't be a fun relaxing place to work anymore. The goals for the bonuses she has for us are very unrealistic. None of us are even close to reaching them.
Then the Christmas party... was going to be after work at a restaurant somewhere arranged by the old owners. Today we found out they decided not to do that, so we have to have it during our lunch break on Friday.

So, kind of a crazy day so far! The haircut I was supposed to do tonight was postponed due to the storm.

Oh, and on the way to work, the sun was just coming up and as I was driving west towards the mountains, I saw a beautiful rainbow above the mountains!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I have to echo Anne on that Barbie.... sounds like fun and games is over.... hopefully you will be able to enjoy the rest of your stay with them though... My youngest gave her notice not sure what the deciding factor was but she did it been with the company 10 years.
on my own again think I like being alone can eat when I want can watch what I want and if I want to wear PJ's at night who is to know other than the young men from church who delivered a gift basket for mom  got up and got ready to go to the funeral so into a skirt and top find something for mom think it's the first time she has been in a skirt since the pandemic started...left for the funeral came home saw mom and brother off decided that I was going to read scriptures and was going to be comfy so on with the jammies... and didn't change out of them... a very nice funeral saw some cousins that probably haven't seen since the uncle's funeral ... told my cousin that it is sad that we only get together at these times... if I remember the numbers correctly 9 kids that I know is correct 43 grandkids and 103 great grandkids and 7 or 8 great great will never catch up with them.... it's the grandkids and greats number I'm not sure about... but close they had 5 son's 2 daughter's then a son then another daughter... so many of us are close in age ... but with spaces in some ages as they had so many more well actually 2 more come to think about it  mom raised 6 lost one when she was 13 and a baby to a still birth he was the last one... my youngest sister was the same age as their first daughter... one of my regrets is that I didn't follow that thought you need to stop by and see your aunt just laziness.... cause I loved her... everyone was so pleased to see mom one of the kids said been my mom and she wouldn't have been out... she had become very home bound not cause she needed to be but she just didn't want to go out...
Lyn I really don't know the answer to your question but I think it would be a yes... I think some times they sing at Temple dedication's and in that case would need to be... but even at that I'm not as they are such a huge choir not sure too many of them would fit... and they do sing beautifully it was nice hearing them the last conference as for the past year they have been doing a video of old songs and choirs
Barbie be safe those storms can be so loud and disturbing... it will take so long to over come the past decade of drought but every little bit helps...
Irmi if you ever make it to Utah and SLC you will have to go see the organ at Temple square... the pipes on both of them are amazing
Be safe Karen....
Judy have you ever tried to use mosquito netting around your head sounds like the rest are well protected but with the netting you would be able to see better...
you all have a great day

The answer on Tabernacle Choir is, yes all members of choir are members of the church and all have their temple recommends.
We had a bit over 3 inches from storm which was past us by Tuesday afternoon. All welcome, but, by no means a drought breaker . Haven't heard of any evacuations because of last summer fires , but maybe that was southern california.
Handyman was busy today, after I threatened firing for not getting stuff done.
