Saturday, Two weeks to Christmas

We have a Roku. As I am a dunderhead when it comes to these things, I will be looking forward to questions and answers.
I enjoyed Judy’s Christmas shopping for the Granddaughters and the ear rings stories. Especially when my great GD walked into the house and had hoop earrings!!! They are a nice small size. She is 11 years old. These fads must spread across the country very fast. She takes fencing lessons. I watched her lesson this morning…very interesting.
Reguarding Roku, my daughter get ESPN plus and PAC 12 for my softball games.
Poor Brenda.Hope she isn’t in too much pain.
I love classical, opera, musical theater, folk, almost everything. Western just a little and loud screaming as is so popular today, not at all!

Lyn, I am curious, did you grow up listening to classical music? I appreciate the great talent of opera singers just not the music. Lol since I went to the movies every Saturday I also loved the musicals popular in the 40’s. I was listening to Aaron Tippins “A December to Remember” cd and the song The Year That Santa Never Came, made me smile. Mrs. Claus drove the sleight. We all could have driven the sleight too. Lol

There is music stung along all the memory cells of my life.... I didn't exactly "listen" to classical music but did get opportunities to attend the Cincinnati Symphony from time to time. I might suggest Handel's Messiah to be a gateway drug to classical music and opera both. One then starts enjoying Beethoven, Handel's Water Music, Mozart and Chopin.....It is a rabbit hole. I always avoided Opera probably because my step mother listened to the programs every weekend but then as an adult I heard recordings of Charlotte Church singing arias, etc and felt my spirit soar along with her voice. I think she was all of 12-13 at the time.... So the window for opera if open for good arias.....

My parent's belonged to and participated in Cincinnati Musical Theater and over all I was hooked. When I was in college, I worked as a counselor (and head riding instructor) at a girls camp in New Hampshire. One of their evening activities was to break the camp into two or three groups and challenge each team to sing a song with a given word in it. These kids came from the east coast and really knew their musicals. Given just one work the teams would go back and forth through multiple turns singing out lines from popular songs, children's song but musicals were the most plentiful.....until they ran out of songs that contained that word. It was pretty amazing.

Everyday listening went to folk singers, PP&M, Pete Seeger, Buffy St Marie, Arlo Guthrie, Carole King, the Carpenters...and moving on to Neil Diamond, John Denver, Melissa Manchester, Mary Chapin Carpenter. I still enjoy vocalists where I can hear their voices and lyrics over the music and that have phrases that sound like written poetry. I learned to appreciate some Country much later in life as a result of my kids introducing me though exposure. You couldn't be a 4-H parent and sit through a square dance and the line dances without picking up some foot tapping songs. I still have my old vinyl records sitting in the basement. One might think they were collector items but I know how my cats, of certain time frames, used the spines to sharpen their claws....and there was that flood in the basement once.

I do have CD's of some of my favorites but now really love being able to simply ask Alexa to play favorites for me......

You should have seen some of the other things on my 12 and 13 year old granddaughters' lists!! The older one wanted a makeup kit. Not a children's set, but real makeup. So, I looked them up on Amazon and found a lot like this. Here are a couple of the ones she specified:

There is enough paint in each of these sets for an entire street full of hookers or the chorus line of the Rockettes! Can you imagine how the girls would look with all this on them?? This all made me really glad I had had only boys! Hoop earrings were a lot better. (The other grandma beat me to the soccer and basketball equipment, darn!)

A good Sling friend had a tornado hit 1 1/2 miles from his house and devastate that neighborhood. So sad for all the loss of lives and property.

A little snow overnight and a slushy mess today! Wish it would just snow and get on with winter!

The music topic has had me thinking all day. I remember my mother playing the piano (not often) when I was little - she had beautiful long fingers. I don't remember her singing. If I sang, my girls asked me to stop. When I was little, records came in the mail for singing and acting out stories. I also learned songs in Sunday School. I like most all music, but have limits for opera. I didn't get into country until well after I was married - John Denver time maybe. Older daughter played piano for the school chorus - nothing like Hallelujah Chorus coming from your living room! Even her dad said he missed her practicing after she went away to college. She was good.

I have a Snickerdoodle cookie dough in the frig and planning to do Peanut Butter cups later. Forgot to buy baking powder for one kind or I'd make it, too.

I'm glad BJ checked in, I was thinking about her all day. Hope the puppy doesn't get sick.

Tonight there was an hour show about the Carpenters on LPB. They were one of my favorite groups too. Also John Denver, the Righteous Brothers and of course Elvis. For our Christmas Party one of the ladies had her son dress up like Elvis and come sing a couple of songs for us. He's in a band and said he had to learn the Elvis songs. It's hard to believe anyone that is in a band doesn't know Elvis music.

She is her and unbelievably tiny! I had the girl who went to get her bring her in and after a bit I told her to show Toby. He lunged at Pippa and I think would have killed her if the girl hadn't jerked away fast and DH grabbed the leash we had Toby on. So puppy is now asleep in DH's arms and I have had Toby sitting beside me. This is going to be harder than I thought. She is beautiful but think the trip was a bit much for her. She isn't interested in eating. We'll see how the night goes.

Had an interesting time at the art fair. Came home very tired and with a headache.

It started at 9am but I got there at 8:35 to get set up. Lots of different vendors there selling all kinds of things. I shared a table with a woman who makes stained glass art. We were at the end of the street next to a tamali stand. They sold out of everything by 9:30! Maybe I should make tamali's next year!
It was busy in the morning but died out about 11am. I ended up selling 6 counters which wasn't too bad. At $5 each, made $30. I spent $32 on a couple things I found there.
All in all, it was an interesting experience but I don't think I would do it again with the golf counters. But I learned some things for if/when I decided to sell gourd art.
This was the first year they had the art fair outside due to Covid restrictions. Everyone seemed to like it this way better. My only complaint was that we were on the sunny side of the parking lot, which was OK in the morning since it was cold out, so we were warmer there, but it got warm later and the sun was always in my eyes. I found a hat in my car and had my sunglasses on, along with my mask.

I have not heard about the tornado devastation details yet. Sounds just horrible! Glad Martha and Sarah are OK.

I like classic rock, pop and country. Mostly 70's and 80's music. Carpenters and John Denver are two of my favorites. I also like smooth jazz and the old blues music. I do not like the current music of any genre. It is all crap, especially country. All sounds the same to me, no creativity with music or lyrics.

I relaxed the rest of the day and got rid of my headache. Have some haircuts to do here tomorrow at noon.

They are now saying there is a 90% chance of rain here on Tuesday. It is supposed to get down to only 34* here tonight! Brrr! I bought an enclosed cat bed for the outside kitties for Christmas but decided to give it to them early because of the cold nights. I hope they use it tonight.

I sometimes have to chuckle at what spell check?? or whatever decides to put in I can't find it now but Beth said something and it made me chuckle...
Music I am mostly a oldie's person like the flip side of the record the softer songs.... the old country my husband was way into it... I like to hear the tenor's, musicals, and believe it or not even some of today's but very rare... Adele I can understand her can't get into rap or again the loud heavy rock
can't believe that it's midnight clothes still in dryer... it's been a busy day the kids came but not until late like almost 7 had chili almost ready as well as some corn bread... son in law got the grab bars install and new shower head in and the girls got all the bin's ect downstairs... I did a dumb thing put the detergent in the softener spot so decided the easiest thing was to run it and then rerun it but forgot till girls were going down so had them restart it so why it's so late getting dried... need to go see if it's all done...
and need to start dish washer before I go to bed... that way the cup that I just had hot chocolate in and the pan to heat it in can go in... guess I ought to go check it out but boy my knee's are just not happy about even the prospect of it.
we still need to put the grab bar up by the toilet but brother wants a piece of wood sanded and stained so that the wood will be long enough to hit the studs in case the bar isn't... it would have been done but not time to sand let alone stain it .... might see if brother can do it as he has a sander if he is physically able to it would work...
need to go check the dryer don't want to get sucked into this movie as I am way too tired to stay up for it...
oh Mitch posted on FB that she is ok and the Amazon place in Ill had think 9 die but then that was yahoo news so who knows...
Enjoy your new puppy BJ I am sure that sooner or later all the dogs will like each other or at least tolerate each other...
