Saturday, Two weeks to Christmas

Good Morning. Was up at o’dark thirty and watching the Weather Channel showing scenes from the devastating tornado that hit Mayfield, Ky. It hit and totally destroyed a candle factory, killing what could be as many as 50 people. Now that it’s daylight, it looks like the town was wiped off the map. Horrendous damage. Storm chaser said a modular home was even up in a tree. . They say 75-100 may have been killed in the storms so far. Many lives forever changed and some gone forever. Always more heartbreaking during the holidays. Martha, hope the line missed you and you have your new roof on.’ I see Sarah is under a tornado watch. On this end of the storm, northern Wi and the UP are getting the heavy snow. We have a bit of fog here and supposed to have so rain which will transition to Lake Effect snow later before the storm clears out. Warmup coming behind it next week. Looking at 50 degrees weather by mid week. So we will lose most if not all our snow.

Enjoyed reading all the grumpy posts yesterday. I’ve had my share. Maybe we should rename this forum “Grumpy Old Ladies who RV”
Hope today is better. But keep on grumping when you need to and like Anne said, never apologize. At least we have a place to share them and maybe have a few laughs along the way. Shirl, love your roll down the window and blast the music while driving. I can just picture an old lady cruising down the road with BB King going. Like you say, you only live once

Had an Interesting night on Thursday. Was watching one of my favorite Christmas movies around 5 p.m. when the picture froze and then disappeared Along with the Internet, WiFi and Cell service Turns out that a snowmobile trailer groomer unknowingly hit a junction box and cut the fiber optic cables. A snowmobiler came along and found cables all over and reported it. Don’t know when it finally got fixed as I went to bed around 9. Naturally it was a snowy night too, for the repair crew to work on it. Spectrum sent out alerts to notify everybody and give approximate repair time, but nobody got them cause the cell tower was out. Gotta love technology. It covered a pretty widespread area.

Got my IPad repaired and nice reading things through nice clear glass. Had a coating put on to keep glass from breaking again, if it should fall or get dropped agsin. Hopefully not.

Went through two tubs of stuff from my trailer, some Stuff incorporating into the house, some going to donation. Got more to sort in basement. And going through closets again to rid out more stuff.

Put out last Christmas decoration by the sub entrance. Will get a picture once this storm leaves. Going to put ge decorations for my garsge all up too, maybe tomorrow since it’s going to be a nice day. Thrn that’s it for decorating. Everybody can enjoy them. Will post pictures.

Beth, do you have any idea why my posts are showing the time I posted, an hour later than I actually post. I checked board preferences but don’t see how I can change it.

Morning All, going to be warmer, very windy with storms..Need to move balcony tree branches away from railing. Internet repairman due this afternoon. Was told he might or might not be vaccinated but he will tell me. That’s scary. I like most music except classical. I have tried many times but think appreciation must start when you are young. As a child I woke up to country music and went to sleep to country and my mom singing and maybe scrubbing the kitchen wall. I have a large collection of cds, country, blues, 50’s, 60’s and others. Martha, music can be sad. I decorated the tree teary eyed while listening to music. My husband’s grandparents came to Baltimore in the early 1900 from Germany and they had 7 children. Family get together we’re wonderful. Uncle Ray couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket but after a few beers he thought he was Frank Sinatra. Everyone groaned lol Uncle Ray and Aunt Dot would clear a dance floor with their beautiful dancing. It can be a sad time of year but also time to appreciate the young family members. Making lists today to get organized and addressing a few Christmas cards. Be safe

Those storms were certainly devastating. BJ, how close to you did they come? I've been worrying about you all night.

I'm still watching the Weather Channel. All the devastation is heartbreaking. I have only had a couple of showers and we aren't under any kind of warning. It looks like Sarah is still getting bad wether.

Shirl, I grew up with country music too. My Mother would sing but I can't carry a tune. Almost all my CD's are country except I'm a late comer to Jimmy Buffett. I wish I could listen to Christmas music but just can't.

I got a box of cookies from my step daughter yesterday so need to get my few Christmas present ordered. I don't know when my sister will get the robe I got for her since she didn't come camping. I don't feel like spending $10 to mail it to her.

They had another one of the "joy rides" to space this morning. I guess they made it back since there is nothing on the news. They could use the millions of dollars that costs to do so much good, in case you want to know how I really feel about it.

Shirl, hope your heater guy is vaccinated. If I see someone drive up I meet them on the porch but I really need to call a plumber. Both toilets need work and the shower head fell again yesterday. I have rigged that thing so many times and I'm out of ideas.

Guess I should get dressed so I don't have to eat lunch in my PJ's.

I too have been watching the devastation with a heavy heart. It sure hits home with me despite different circumstance, homes are gone, towns are wiped out or terribly damaged. People are homeless and lost everything they owned. There is no quick fix it will be a long time getting things back to normal. My heart goes out to them. They are still working on reestablishing our 2 towns that were majorly demolished by the wildfires. But it will be years yet before they realize a new normal. The loss of lives from the tornado is huge. We were lucky only had 5 lives lost.

Martha so glad you didnt get any damage. The weather is just crazy for sure. I let workers into my house but they must wear a mask. Even if they are vaccinated doesnt really mean you cant catch Covid but wearing a mask is a great improvement, I will give them one if they dont have one and of course I wear mine.

Rain storm is here with a chilly breeze. Getting lots of snow in the mountains so that is a plus. I need to get busy and get a little bit of housekeeping done, then I think a curl up and a movie is on my agenda.

Did the vacuuming and dusting, then decided to make a fast trip to Walmart to grab some Christmascards and a few other things before the weather changed. The storm is moving off and dragging some colder air in, changing the rain to light snow. Wanted to get back before that happened. Was 44 when I left, was gone an hour and temp was down to 35. Started lightly lightly snowing about15 minutes after I got home. Not amounting to anything as yet, but will before long. Not supposed to get much though.

Shirl, I was raised with Country music too. Folks always had a country station on and I had my favorite one on in my car too. I miss the old time country from the 60’s and 70’s. Still have some CD’s with music from those years. Nice sitting here watching it snow. No walk today as road is a slushy mess from the warm temps and will be freezing before long.

Judy, RefrigiWear is still making clothing etc., for those working in the outdoors, freezer companies or just spending time in the cold. Quality is still the same and they still use the good old metal zippers. It’s why I ordered my new coat from them and am not disappointed. Thty have a good selection of jackets, coats, sweatshirts etc. for cold or cool weather.

Internet man here and gone. He was wearing a mask. I left the door unlocked, told him on the intercom to come in. I sat in the hall with my mask on. Sitting here chilling, really, I opened the balcony door for fresh air after repair guy left. Hopefully he fixed it right. He said I need a new router and I said that is why you are here. He went out to the truck and got one. I read the headlines about the tornado devastation but can’t stand to read the article. If BJ or Sarah posts on Facebook please let us know.

You know, I have been thinking about this for quite a while. Martha, I agree with you on this 100%.

Some people just have too much money. There are people here in the United States that still use an outhouse (or worse) because they can't afford to put in a septic system. There are people right here in California that have to either haul in water, or have it delivered. What's up with that?

Too bad these millions can't be put to a more needed - and philanthropic - use.

As for the terrible tornadoes - I can't bear to look at the photos or watch the videos.

We are ok here and only had thunder, a bit of wind and lightening. But our power went out around ten this morning and didn't come back on until around one. It was starting to get cold in here and I was freaking out as puppy should be here by around seven. Thankfully so far the power is staying on! They said some equipment had been damaged somewhere. I have been putting off getting a whole house generator maybe this will push me over but they have really gone up in price. The storm devastation is so sad it was the longest tornado in history at 235 miles long! The roof on an Amazon warehouse near St Louis blew off and workers were trapped inside. Haven't heard if any deaths. Another factory was hit in KY and several workers were killed.
I am worried about Pippa. She was sick after her car ride to the airport and threw up. I hope she doesn't get sick on the way home as tiny puppies can dehydrate fast. It was 86 in Ft Myers FL so she won't be used to the weather here especially today.
Shirl glad your internet is fixed by a masked man! Martha glad the storm also missed you.

It was 77 this morning walking Ty. Now, what's normally the hottest time of day, it's mid 60's and is showing lows in the upper 40's tonight. And it's been windy yesterday and today. I'll probably turn my heat on for a bit tomorrow morning and then who knows, maybe the AC in the afternoon lol

I have the fixings for the potato soup from my store run yesterday, but think I'll wait until next weekend when it supposed to be cool again. I need to continue with working on eating the stuff I've made and frozen other days. My freezer is still quite full. I had to rearrange to fit the O'Brien outdoors inside it.

Yay, BJ, I've been waiting to hear from you. Fingers crossed that Pippa arrives safely and gets over the voyage jitters quickly.

I was born in Detroit and grew up nearby, so growing up I mostly heard a lot of "Motown" type music on the radio. The most popular station with young people then was actually a Canadian radio station across the river in Windsor--CKLW. The station had a pretty strong signal, but after a certain time of night, the station was able to ramp up, and it could be heard all over the country! It played almost entirely Motown music in the late 50s and 60s--both black and white soul and rock'n'roll. We never really heard much of anything else in Detroit, so I had never even heard of the Beach Boys, and such from the west coast.

Personally, my favorite music was folk music and Broadway musical music. In late high school and college, I mostly listened to the Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul and Mary, the Weavers, and Harry Belafonte, but my neighborhood had a theater in the round for several summers, so I got to see Kismet, The Pajama Game, Guys and Dolls, Flower Drum Song, Damn Yankees, and Paint Your Wagon. They gave cheap tickets to the neighborhood people, which was nice. (A lot of kids also sneaked in the back way because this theater was in a tent on property we used to play in. Very easy to climb over or under the fence.) My dad also bought tickets for musicals that played in Detroit.

I lost a long whining post late last night, which was probably good. I am certain these are mosquitos, and I was able to talk to a couple of other CLL patients who had the same problem. I am going to get some of the bracelets, and today I went out and got some OFF spray to spray the bottoms of one of my pairs of the long pants I put on when I go outside. I will have to store them in a plastic bag to keep them away from my regular clothes, however, or I will be constantly washing them to keep them from stinking everything else up!
