December 7th Pearl Harbor Day

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

December 7th Pearl Harbor Day

Postby Colliemom » Tue Dec 07, 2021 12:06 pm

Today is a day set aside to remember that “Day of Infamy” that killed so many unsuspecting Americans, destroyed most of our Pacific fleet and sent our country and our parents, “The Greatest Generation” into World War II. Through their sheer will and determination, we have the freedoms we enjoy today. Most of them are gone now, but we will never forget them.

As for me here, these pictures say it all. This was from noon on Sunday to yesterday morning and then again from yesterday afternoon to this morning. I think we have received 14 or 15 inches.

Sue, thank you for the snow pictures. That's the way I want to see snow. lol

Our cold front didn't make it here until about 6:00 last night. There wasn't much rain but I forgot to go look at the gauge. It didn't get very cold, about 46 and 56 now.

I have one of my Meetup meals tonight. I'm trying to decide how late I can go to Lafayette and still have time to run a couple of errands. I won't be home until about 9:00 so can't leave Sugar all afternoon and until 9:00. I hope the RV place has the light I need for the bathroom. Hope I don't have to come home in the fog.

A chilly damp day in northern California. Had few showers late afternoon and evening yesterday. I have dental appointment in afternoon. Otherwise it's a good day to stay in. More rain due Thursday and weekend.

A little cloudy today here and not so warm, but decent weather anyway. Sue, I love the beautiful photos of the new snow, but it is just too cold for me these days.

Also, want to clarify that my donation to UNICEF was less than $200, which is what I figure is half of what i normally spend for groceries and odds and ends each month, so I felt it was not too much to donate once in a while. Will do something smaller next year.

Sat out and chatted with neighbors last night and got two more mosquito bites on my legs, even though I was wearing long pants and a long-sleeved shirt! (It might have been from the day before when i went shopping or a short walk, however.) Today I am going to spend most of the day inside and make some phone calls to try to find a local care manager for my aunt. Also, need to scrape off some stickers from a couple of windows. And maybe do some reading???

Afternoon All, Sunny and cool. Sue, love your snowy pictures. I was 5 yrs old when Pearl Harbor was attack and my father was drafted in the army a year later along with his two brothers. Japanese surrendered on my ninth birthday. I made a momentous decision today. I will no longer gently wrap and store Christmas tree lights because the suckers don’t work the next year anyway. Life is too short so will throw them away and buy new. Can you guess what I have been doing this morning? I will have a half lit tree and I don’t care. Not expecting company so I will look at the side of the tree that is lit. Silly to stress myself over decorations but it’s what I do and do so enjoy everything when It’s finished. Takes me back to simpler and happier times. Back to tree turning. BJ, waiting for pictures. Be safe

Love the snow pictures, Sue. Martha, we had the cold front come through here also. Haha. High is only 70 today. Made for great sleeping weather last night and should be tonight also. Temps will go up tomorrow. Shirl, I think replacing the lights annually makes sense. Even as much as I hate spending money foolishly, that doesn't seem foolish to me.

Dang, I was thinking yesterday was the last of the Medicare Advantage commercials. Nope, today is. They are driving me nuts!

I finally made it for my favorite gas station food today. But I mean it! Laredo Taco Company handles the food. I got the enchilada combination plate today. $5.99 and I'll get two meals from it. I'll be going back more often than I probably should. Everything is homemade. I am not a tamale person but they sell tons of them. And they have lines at lunch time. Today's (and tomorrows) lunch:

Good evening!

Another frustrating day. The new people were shown how to do new tasks today. There was no follow-up to make sure they were doing things right so there were a lot of mistakes made and sloppy work done. I ended up doing my own quality control before packaging their work and I had to have about one third of the joints redone, or destroyed because they weren't fixable. My manager said he is gonna really miss me because I do such good work there. Nice to hear. :D

My co-worker/friend Mendy has not been in this week because her daughter has Covid and she needed to quarantine and get tested. She tested negative but won't be back to work until Monday. I talked to her tonight and she is also planning to quit because of all the chaos and too many new people. She does very good work too so they will be losing two good workers.

After work, I went to WM to get some things for my tree; new lights, garland, extension cords, etc. Most everything is gone tho. Even the extension cords are sold out! I decided to make due with the lights I have and was able to find a couple of extension cords in a box out in my porch. I put up my teal lights along the deck railing and the white lights on my white flocked tree. I went to put the ornaments on and realized I have no hooks, so will have to get some. The ones I bought last year were so flimsy that they would straighten out when I hung them on the tree! I need to find better hooks. My lights blink on and off in six places on the tree so it is very busy looking but pretty. Will look better once decorated.

It was cloudy and cool today. Very cool tonight so I have the heat on in here. Big storm system moving in on Thursday with rain, wind and cold temps. I have been waiting for another wind event so I can collect palm fronds to make reindeer faces on them. I have the stuff to make them and want to give them out to whomever wants one around here.

Tomorrow night I will make my golf counters and get that done for Saturday's Art Fair. I also need to make some signs for the table.

Have a good night!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Got email mid day that my flooring has arrived at local Home Depot for pickup. Now I can't find Sean the handyman, because we thought floor would not arrive until 14th or after and he is in process of switching phones, and I don't have new number yet! I might have at least half a floor by Christmas! Had dental check/cleaning, all good. She was surprised how little there was to clean. Eating mostly meat does that apparently.
