Wednesday, Thanksgiving Eve

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Wednesday, Thanksgiving Eve

Postby Bethers » Wed Nov 24, 2021 11:00 am

Where is everyone this morning? I've met more people whose names I'll forget. Heading out shortly for the clinic to check my leg. There's a couple things I'd like to buy, but I have no intentions of going in any stores today.

I'm still drinking coffee. Have to get my quart in before I can do anything. lol I'm afraid I have a grocery list going. I hope the local store has everything so I don't have to go to Walmart.

I was very disappointed in the restaurant we went to last night. It was a Chipotle Mexican Grill which my son says is a chain. I have probably passed it a 100 times and never noticed it. Five of the ladies got the Burrito Bowl which didn't look good to me. I got tacos. Three not great tacos and a small drink was $15.

Beth, hope the place on your leg is nothing.

Good morning Beth and all that check in!

Beth, enjoy the couple months where you'll be staying. Tell everyone they need name tags.

We woke up to 39 degrees but we're over 60 now and will top off around 72. The resort is having a Thanksgiving Day dinner at the clubhouse tomorrow which we're going to and Brenda will join us. We're taking a platter of devilled eggs and Brenda is bring a cranberry salad. In two weeks we'll have a quiet Thanksgiving Day meal here, which Brenda is also coming to and she'll be bringing several sides. The resort makes name tags for whomever wants one and we ordered ours last winter, so we wear them at all the events here, which makes remembering names so much easier.

Martha, you just snuck in. That is so aggravating when you go out for a meal and not happy with it.

I dont go out to eat very often up here. Choices are limited and when you read the problems with most of the fast food places that just never happens for me. We have a local forum and it is called Rants and Raves. So I get some good tips on where to go for all kinds of services. The food horror stories have kept me eating at home. When I go to Medford I do go out to eat a couple of times as I already know where the good places are located.

It is chilly here this morning 34° and has warmed up to 39 LOL and very foggy. I think our high will be 49. But this weekend is supposed to be nice in the low 60's and mostly sunny so I will take it. Beth glad you are getting your leg looked at, hope it is nothing serious. Lots of celebrations going on tomorrow for most of you. I will just be staying home doing whatever the mood strikes LOL My neighbor invited me over as she is having 7 of her family for dinner, I politely refused as I am really content just to stay home. I am cooking my ham tomorrow then will slice and dice most of it up for future meals. I will have that with a potato and yam, that just suits me dandy.

Today will just continue with my pantry organization, laundry, and need to vacuum and dust as I am having company Saturday for a couple of days. I am looking forward to catching up on all the news from down south.

everyone have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING and I am so grateful for all of your friendships

Good news. First, I like this clinic and the doctor I saw. Better, he says it's not infected, but they dug in further which is causing it to take time healing, etc. Back to only Vaseline on it. If it shouldn't get better in the next week or so or if at any time it gets worse, I'm to return. And he doesn't want me to put the cream they want on it until it's healed. Ok with me.

Martha, I only ate at Chipotle once and wasn't thrilled. Sorry you had the same results. I don't eat out often but want to enjoy it when I do. At least I know what to expect when I stop at Taco Bell. And the price of what I get (a couple crunchy tacos) works.

Irmi looks like you'll be eating and eating lol. With good company. I haven't decided if I'm going to the Thanksgiving gathering here. I'm still not comfortable with groups, especially inside. My park in Arizona everyone wears name tags for any meet ups. Yes, I appreciate that. Here is small and everyone seems to quickly know everyone. I'll be the exception lol

I'm not used to humidity. Whoa lol

My son has doctors at a City of Hope clinic in Upland. I’m encouraged by their qualifications. I have always heard good things about City of Hope. He will get his porta cath put in after Thanksgiving and begin his chemo.
I wish I lived closer to him. I’m checking all availability of hotels in his area. Also transportation options. I would move in with him except that would drive he and his wife crazy.
We are having smoked turkey courtesy of the boy friend. Just 3 of us as all other relatives have plans.
I, too, appreciate all the friendships on this site.

Hope everyone has a good holiday, celebrated in a manner that works for them. After many years in my younger life of living through holiday get togethers with dysfunctional family members, not going anywhere on a holiday and eating "whatever" works for me. I am just very glad that both of my children married into families and/or surrounded themselves with friends that gather around and provide them with normal holiday celebrations. They may not always understand my aversion to giant family gatherings but they tolerate my quirkiness well. It is just more relaxing to visit without all the business.

I cooked a couple of turkey thighs a couple of days ago, so I have leftovers for tomorrow. I also made some dressing (from a box) and cranberry sauce, so that is what I will have tomorrow. Also, did two loads of clothing laundry. I really appreciate Florida state parks because every single one of them has washers and dryers in each restroom building. And at least in the last couple of parks, they were clean and had adequate hot water.

It has been really cold the last two days, but it supposed to get up to 70 tomorrow, so after dumping my tanks, I might drive over to the day use beach and go for a walk on the beach. The boardwalk from the campground is closed for reconstruction, so can't use it.

Ordered Christmas gifts for my sons and their wives yesterday. They are all very hard to buy for, but after getting out my folding duffle bag that I had bought last year, I decided it was really well made (heavy ripstop nylon) and the right size, so ordered four of them in different colors for everyone! If they don't like them, at least they are practical! And all it took was a couple of clicks!! Also ordered Christmas gifts for two California teenagers and had them mailed to their house. All I need is a hat and gloves for older California boy, but that should be easy. Yea! Now just have the other three kids in Ohio.

Judy, the only present I have bought is the gift for the Christmas Party December 3rd. I will be camping with my sister and I was going to order her a light robe or house dress and give it to her then. Of course I haven't ordered it yet. None of the stores we have looked in have that anymore. She wears a size 3X so it's hard to find something that fits. I had seen some in a catalog but now I don't know where the catalog is. I have gotten to really dislike Christmas shopping. I wish no one would give me anything.

I had to go to two stores to find cranberries and made one batch of cranberry sauce. I make some and freeze it so I will have it all year.

It got up to 80 so decided to go fishing. It was too windy so didn't stay long. Mini Moo went with me. It's fun to fish with a cat helping.

Good evening gals!

Another interesting day at work. The lady who never shows up was fired finally. The new guy is really nice. The manager just quickly showed him what we are currently working on and then had her brother (the whole family works there!) show him how to coat the joints in THC powder and then never checked to see if he was doing it right. If they are not done in a specific way, they are ruined. So I went over and took a look at what he was doing and they were not looking too good so I went over each step and showed him how to do it right and showed him one of mine so he would know what the finished product looked like. The manager really should have done that for him but I am very anal about doing things right and have always been good at teaching/training people. It was a good thing I did that because at the end of the day he had done over 400 of them!! Everyone said he did a really nice job on them. He thanked me for showing him how to do them. It would have been a mess if he had done that many and did them all wrong. :o . He even beat me! I did 350 and thought that was really good and he did 50 more than me! Everyone likes him and I think he will fit in good. They interviewed another guy today and he didn't pass the joint making test.

We have tomorrow off and then are required to work at least 5 hours on Friday so I think I will work from 7 to 12 and take the rest of the day off. Have lots of things I need to do this weekend. I want to get the deck finished with cleaning and make room to put up my Christmas tree out there. I got my lights for the deck railing. Also need to start making the golf stroke counters for the art fair. I might also frost my hair this weekend. Need to call Linda and see what she is doing. Maybe we can get together one of the days. I think she might be going up to 29 Palms to spend time with some friends tho.

I took the turkey breast piece out of the freezer to read how to cook it but there are no instructions. It is precooked so I suppose I just heat it up? I was going to try it in the air fryer but not sure how long or what temp. I guess I can't screw it up too bad since it is precooked. I put it in the fridge to start thawing it out. It is only and inch or so thick so shouldn't take too long to thaw out.

I stopped at another store on the way home and found a 4 pack of Hawaiian rolls. Otherwise I was just gonna get the 12 pack and give some to my neighbor.

I decided to order the Roku that was on sale for $15. I think it is the basic one. I figured I can try it without too much to learn and if I really like it, I can get a fancier one later. I got it sent to me already today.

Sheila, could you put your wreath together with a hot glue gun? That is what I used to use for those.

Beth, glad you found a doctor you like and that the wound wasn't infected. We can get name tags here too. I just haven't ordered mine yet. Need to do that.

Supposed to be high winds tomorrow, but they said that about last Sunday and it never happened. It was pretty breezy earlier tho. If it is nice tomorrow, I might go do a round or two at the putting course while everyone else is eating their dinners.

I need to spend some time thinking about all the things I am thankful for. You gals are already on that list! :D

Have a good night and a great Thanksgiving, with friends, family, or your dog! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

for me it's early to be on but for most of you you are tucked away in bed
it's really hard to prepare stuff when not in your own kitchen... have rolls rising was going to mix up the spices for the carrots but can't seem to find the sandwich zip lock bags... for what I'm mixing up don't want to use quart size.... a bit of over kill for maybe 2 Tablespoons of spices... making rolls they are on their 2nd rise started them then went to meet my son and daughter and grandkids for ice cream yes it's cold out but ice cream is good anytime of year  right??? found something so will get those mixed up going to make a peanut butter pie and dice up the dates and chop up the pistachio's my son said to come whenever but they plan on eating about 1ish so if I'm cooking the carrots there need to get up and go earlier that probably planned on... and although they say can be served room temp I'd rather have them hot out of the oven if I get my butt in gear could peel and cut up the carrots but then not sure where I'd put them if I did that so might not... beside that it's 9:40 :?
my friends kid's have always called us aunt and uncle as do ours call them aunt and uncle my "nephew" wife called and told my dd that one of her kids (the youngest and for some reason never really knew her as well as the other kids) had fallen and hurt herself she is guessing about 21 there about's then she called back and dd decided to go to the hospital or clinic not sure which to sit with the mom till her husband got there but she is still gone so not sure if he's not made it back or what for awhile the prognosis was pretty grim... but they decided that the leg isn't broken nor will they need to amputate guess it was a problem with getting enough blood to the leg is why that was a possibility so all is going to be ok... this on top of their grandson going through cancer treatment and the worries with that I feel for them... it's more than grim with the grandson an aggressive cancer that's spread and he is only 7 to have to go through all that is facing him is a lot...
but we have much to be grateful for medical advancements that can help fix the issues or perhaps make life more tolerable for awhile...
this isn't getting anything done oh yes I got the cranberry sauce made :) need to get up and do something perhaps measure out the spices so that is done and I can get them put away... then shape the rolls then make the pie while they are raising again!!! that's the plan
Barbie I would have probably flunked that test as well I don't work fast not overly coordinated either... but glad you helped the new guy get things right that wouldn't have been a good start on a new job... but you are right the manager should have checked on him...
have a great Thanksgiving enjoy whatever your plans are
I am grateful for having you all to read about to vent to or look forward to hearing about... I know that I don't usually mention everyone's doing but do read them and do get to the end and try to remember what each did and it's gone...
for years we went to the casino in Parker for the Thanksgiving buffet so looking forward to being with family this year
