And it's Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

And it's Thursday

Postby Bethers » Thu Nov 18, 2021 11:40 am

Today will be a take it easy day. Other than final things to close up, nothing necessary and now I'm driving further a couple days than I like to. Haha, I try to stay at 4 hours or less driving time. Since I take a break or two, that can mean up to 6 hours. But I'll have some days I'll either skip a break or travel longer or both.

More and more people who have switched out the electric/propane fridges for electric only are finding it's not as cost effective as they expected. Surprise, surprise. The older fridges might have been but I know someone who replaced the "new" all electric fridge after less than 5 years. I'm guessing they don't handle the bumps, etc as well either. I'd consider a basic electric fridge in my rig if I was stationary. But they are all getting all the bells and whistles. Just imagine the water maker leaking in an RV! :o

Off for our longer morning walk.

Morning Beth and all. I agree on the fridges. Those built for homes don’t belong in RV’s. As you say, they can’t handle the bouncing and bumps etc. A leaky ice maker would be a disaster, not to mention draining on your water tanks to make ice probably. Camping sure has changed over the years. Some people are calling it Glamping, given all the fancy equipped rigs and stuff that gets hauled to the campsite. People want to camp to “get away from home” and all that, but theybring it all with them

Taking a break from painting on that woodcraft cutout. Not a lot left to do, but time consuming. Might finish it by tonight and then I can start on the next ones. they are large wood ornaments and each has a different pattern, so should be fun. Sometimes the big one piece ones can get a little monotonous.

Got a Turkey in tbe oven, should be ready to take out shortly. No, this is ot Thanksgiving Thursday. Our Meijer store has them on sale since last week, for 33 cents a pound, so bought one to cook and make up meals for over the winter. Cheap eating. Some will be for in the dogs supper too. Depending on how much I get from this bird, might go get another one if any left or buy a fresh one as they are currently 99 a pound and I’m sure will come down if any left. Limit is 2 turkeys at a time. Thry had the freezer bins stocked as high as they could and wiped out a couple days last week, but got more in.

Spitting some snow, but nothing to make a big deal out of at the moment. Might get 1-3 inches by tonight. Very windy though. Temps are in low 30’s with wind chills in the 20’s. My new LL Bean parka arrived yesterday, so good day to try it out. Down filled, waterproof and windproof, so can handle anything mom nature throws at us. Windproof is the key to staying warm. No coat, jacket or parka will keep you as warm if the wind goes through it.

Time to check the bird. Maybe a Turkey sandwich for lunch :D

I finally saw an ad with the price of turkeys. Super One had some for 77 cents a pound. I'll see what they are after Thanksgiving.

Beth, where are you going in Texas? You probably said but I don't remember.

My hair is getting uncontrollable again so got an appointment to get it cut at 9:30 in the morning. Will have to get a move on to get to town that early. Need to make a list so I don't have to go back to town on Saturday. I forgot Mr P's food the other day. He's on a prescription food and won't eat it unless I mix a little better food with it. He finally ate it this morning but didn't like what I had. I made biscuits this morning. They tasted good but didn't rise very much. My baking powder only expired in July, 2019.

The noon weather said we have a front coming through this afternoon and the temperature will drop 30 degrees. Sugar and I went for our walk early. It has only dropped 10 degrees so far. I keep forgetting to go to Lowe's and get pipe insulation in case we have a freeze. If I wait until they say freeze there will be none to be found.

Good afternoon all. So far I am having a really good day. Started out with my Lowe's order was ready at the store (which is right next door). I have ordered these patio chairs at least 8 times. They charge my credit card then cancel it. After about the third time I called and asked what the problem was and they said even tho the website says how many available they run out quickly so then they cancel my order and credit my credit card.....great. So after about a total of 8 times I gave up this summer. So the other day they had them on the website again, so I gave it a shot and lo and behold my credit card said pending...no cancel yet. Then they sent me a text last night saying my order was ready for pickupp....wahoo. I wanted these specific chairs as they swivel and rock and have cushions. Very comfy. My friend ordered hers last year and when I went to try that is when the cancelling started. She got hers and they are super comfy. She is in a thriving metropolis and I am BFE Roseburg. BUT I finally got them, they are sitting in my office waiting for me to put them together. LOL no hurry now as I wont put them outside until spring.

Most of you know I have been waiting since August for a title to my Motorhome to give to the buyer who moved to Tennessee. So today my "new best friend" at the DMV called to give me an update. As they sent me another stupid piece of paper to sign early October. States you can sleep, eat, potty in the RV. Dumb new law. All I had to do was sign it and take it to the DMV, no appt needed. So checked on it a couple weeks ago and she said they were scanning up to the 15th and I took mine in on the 19th. As soon as she gets it she said she will approve it. SO today she called to tell me it is approved and on it's way so to look for it and let her know when I get it. I have her direct line number LOL

Then I ordered some shelving for my closet in my office so I can organize and store some stuff in there. They came this morning by FedEx. Just cheapo plastic shelving so my day was going so well I decided to treat myself to a Peppermint Mocha at Starbucks. WELL because I ordered a holiday drink they gave me a holiday plastic cup with a lid for free ha ha ha ha I went and bought a lottery ticket, we shall see. Lets hope my luck holds.

Good afternoon or almost evening for me! Been a busy day for me today. My youngest son came because he wanted to go through photos. Of course I was all for it. I have a whole file drawer dedicated to them! We finally took a break and he treated me to lunch at the Chinese buffet. Then back at the phots for a couple more hours. Talk about going back in time! My babies and how young we looked! I’m surprised at how many of the places in Europe that he remembers since he was so young! Heck, I was surprised that I remembered where we were and that I was able to identify some of the people! We had some fun trips in our little 16 foot TT all over Europe. Three kids and two adults packed in! Sure wasn’t glamping but we had fun! Sue, thanks for the heads up on the cold front coming this way. It was 60 this morning but then this afternoon it started raining and the temp is 42 right now! I chased leaves yesterday and what I did is now all undone and covered with more leaves! I’m about ready to give it up and just keep the driveway cleared as much as I can and hit them again in the spring! Trees were slow in dropping leaves this year it seems! So that’s it for my last couple of days! Kinda envious of the higher temps some of you are having! Have a good evening.

That trip through Europe in your TT sounds wonderful. Don't feel bad about not raking your leaves, it is good for the soil and various bugs etc if you leave them on the ground, next best is to mulch them with your mower.

I am really hating these short days. Seems like I hardly get out of bed, and it starts getting dark--hardly any daytime at all. Of course, I could try getting out of bed earlier, but I keep telling myself I am retired and can sleep as much as I want. Oh, well.

Also thinking that my complaining about not getting hot water in campground washing machines may be the washing machines and not the campgrounds being cheap or trying to save energy. However, since I have not been to a commercial laundromat in two years because of COVID, I guess I should not complain. It is much safer, especially here in Florida where the washers and dryers are outside in a covered area, to do my laundry here than in a building crowded with people.

Went for a short bike ride today and found my knees really aching. In fact, lately I just ache all over. Today I could barely bend my knees as I pedaled, but raising my seat did help. I don't know if I am just really out of shape, or if I am coming down with arthritis. I know I have arthritis in my left shoulder and it was recommended I get it replaced, but that is a big surgery and would require me stopping traveling for 3-6 months.

Also, I have very fragile kneecaps, per my orthopedic surgeon from back when I had my knees replaced, so I have trouble getting up from the floor. I was told not to kneel, so I sit on the floor. Getting up for the past 15 years has involved putting my left foot under my slightly raised right knee, resting my weight on my left arm while rolling my body to the left, and then with my feet under me, pushing up to being on all fours, like a spider. I usually need to hold onto something with my right arm while rolling over and pushing or pulling myself up. Except this is getting really hard with my sore left shoulder, so I need to find another method. Yesterday, I changed the propane alarm which is almost on the floor, so I sat on a low stool, but then had to grab the kitchen counter with left arm and refrigerator with right hand to get up off the stool!! Maybe I need a taller stool? Do they have power stools???? A pulley system??? OK, this is getting ridiculous and I am imagining some really silly solutions.

More thinking. Maybe what I need to do is scoot myself over to a solid handicap bar I can use to pull myself up. Need to think where I can install this.

Judy, I have a really hard time getting up and I haven't had knee replacement. I have trouble standing up from a chair. I have tried doing exercises and they make my knees worse. I decided I need a taller stool to put air in my tires but haven't found one yet. I really don't want to have to have a knee replacement.

I wish my son was interested in looking at pictures. He has no interest in having anything to do with the family. His half sister would really like to talk to him but he won't answer the phone when she calls. I told her she asks too many questions. I'm not really interested in talking to her either but I do. She has to tell you every detail over and over and you can just give me the summary. She talks so fast I only catch about every third word so sometimes don't know what she is saying. If there is a pause and I think I'm suppose to respond I have to ask her what. Harold couldn't understand her on the phone and she would end up aggravating him in person because she never shuts up.

I don't ever go to Starbucks but the daiquiri places have eggnog again. I haven't ordered one yet but it's coming. I just hate to think how many calories are in one.

Good evening gals!

Things at work are kind of in chaos. They are transitioning from one owner to the other and each one has opinions on how to do things and they are very different so no one knows what to do. I said I will do whatever the person signing my current paycheck wants. Unfortunately, tomorrow is payday and we have been told we won't be getting paid tomorrow, but maybe Monday (they are switching payroll systems). Or maybe get live checks tomorrow, or maybe direct deposit next week... Then our receptionist had an argument with the new owner and quit yesterday. But this afternoon she changed her mind and wants to stay... One guy is leaving to move to San Diego and we have another guy replacing him. We already exchanged names for the Secret Santa but now we need to redo picking names with all the changes happening... crazy!

We have been making the Miracle Balm that I use on my aches and pains. Last week the assistant manager came over and secretly handed me a large jar of it! Then yesterday, the old owner was making more and came over and handed me a jar (under the table). Then when I was about to leave, the manager came over and handed me a jar that she put some of the left over balm in that she scraped out of the bowl after finishing making a batch. So now I have 3 full jars of balm! That will last me a year at least! Who was it on here that wanted some? I can send a little jar of it for you. They were also giving out baggies of the new pot we are using, but I don't smoke, so I turned it down. Probably why they were giving me the balm instead. They all know I love that stuff! :D

Yesterday my back was hurting really bad at work for some reason. I just could not get comfortable at all. Came home and laid on my heating pad and that really helped! Today I was fine. The only thing I noticed yesterday and today too, is my feet are swollen. I have never had that happen before (besides when I was pregnant), so I don't know what is causing that. I try to keep them raised at home.

Last night I heard a cat fight outside my bedroom window. I hear those a lot and most of the time the cats are 5 feet apart and just making a lot of noise. I shut my window hard to try and scare them off. This morning I went out to my car and the driveway was covered in fluffy black and white fur! Some of it even had chunks of skin attached and there was blood on the driveway (not a lot but some). I think it is from the fluffy black and white kitty who lives across the street under the vacant house. There was no other colored fur, so he obviously got the worst end of the fight. I am actually thinking it may have gotten attacked by a raccoon, to be that vicious. I sure hope he will be OK. I think I will put some food and water over by the opening in the skirting at that house so he doesn't have to go looking for food tonight.

No word from my SIL about Thanksgiving so they are probably not going to have any dinner there. That will give me the weekend to finish cleaning and organizing around here. We can choose to work on Friday if we want. I probably will.

Just got a text from a lady here in the park who wants a haircut this weekend.

We are supposed to be getting the $600 CA stimulus check soon. My next door neighbor got hers already so I should be getting mine soon. Will use that for my taxes and registrations.

Linda found a part-time job and started today. It is close to where she is staying and she likes it so far.

That's about it here. Need to find something for dinner...

Barbie, that stinks that you won't be getting paid on your regularly scheduled payday.

I believe that it is illegal in the state of California for an employer not to pay their employees on time:

. . . "failure to pay wages in good funds on the regular designated payday as prescribed in Labor Code Sections 204, 204b, 205, and 209, respectively, is a misdemeanor."

Check out this California state website:

https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/faq_paydays.htm

This is at the bottom of the page:

"11. Q. If my employer does not pay me on my regularly scheduled payday, what can I do?

A. You should contact the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement and explain that your employer is not paying you on the regularly scheduled paydays. DLSE will assist you by explaining the law to your employer. Failure to post the payday notice required by Labor Code Section 207, and failure to pay wages in good funds on the regular designated payday as prescribed in Labor Code Sections 204, 204b, 205, and 209, respectively, is a misdemeanor. Labor Code Section 215"

I actually did somethings today just didn't finish anything  I pulled the toys out that mom keeps for kids to play with so we can move the side table and lamp thought that perhaps I could do so but wasn't successful so toys all over the living room floor more there than I thought I'd love to move them somewhere else but can't decide where to put them... thought perhaps under the computer as mom has a lap top but then where do I put the computer chair??? oh the problems we create when we move stuff.. then I took off the stuff on mom's ceder chest so I could put my stuff on it... all those bins of ty beanie babies :o some stuff was just moved over till I had a bin to put them into which I do now but the girls are really suggesting that I go to Utah tomorrow as there is weather coming in... one daughter wants me to get another Covid test but according to CDC I shouldn't be contagious now... so what's the point but guess I will go in and see what they tell me... then come home and pack up and leave hopefully the weather will not be in earnest yet... it's sure cold I'm so tempted to get an electric blanket then I'd never get out of bet so maybe I'd better not do that... wonder how much it adds to the electric bill... :?
and I still need to get pellets just don't know where to find them.... and none came over with the car so either the place I had son in law check at didn't have them or he forgot...but down to 4 bags... might go by this place here in town and see if they have some mom doesn't like the ones there leaves too much ash but if they have them the problem is that it's a 40 lb. bag and I can't pack them very far... perhaps I will see if they have some pay for them and have niece /nephew pick them up that is if they even have them...
dd's and I went to supper or so we thought the first choice was closed the second choice was filled to the brim and over flowing so we went to another it was closed and then the last choice was closed they went home I came home to soup sure didn't get to talk with them at all and I've messed that... then controversy with another dd she wants me to get a negative test before coming down but if I'm not contagious why??? oh well as I said I will go see what they suggest
well think I need to finish rambling and say good night

Hate to break it to you Judy, but a major shoulder repair can be 12-24 months recovery! Have had several friends who had it done!
Spent day clearing stuff again. Tonight handyman came and we decided on a layout for my pantry.
My back is in spasm again. So didn't get as mch done as I hoped. And no it won't "heal" because it's ongoing military injury, but usually it's not this bad.
Supposed to rain Friday. We shall see.

Hello Sheila. I don't know how one would know, definitively, whether they are contagious or not without being tested (and I freely acknowledge that testing is not always 100% accurate). There have been many "break-through" infections, and infections spread by those with break through infections who are also without symptoms.

I also don't know if any of the exposures mentioned on the CDC website apply to you. . . but just thought I would post the link here (below), keeping in mind that CDC guidelines often change (and are updated) as more is understood about the transmissibility of Covid 19. Especially as questions begin to arise about how effective (or not) the vaccine (or even previous infection) is in preventing infection by variants.

I, personally (and this is just me), would not have close contact with my children and loved ones - at all - if there was even the tiniest possibility that I might spread the virus to any of them.

I am fully vaccinatated with Moderna, including getting my booster on November 5. My chances of exposure, or of coming down with Covid 19 are thus exceedingly small. This is not to say it can't happen, just that the chances are slim.

NONETHELESS, with my children and their spouses coming to my home for a few days over Thanksgiving, I will twice be giving myself one of the at-home Covid tests.

Why? Because why not.

I do realize that many ladies on here will think I am over-reacting. And perhaps I am. We all have our own personal level of acceptable risk. But Covid can be, and most certainly is, a life threatening situation. And, as mentioned above, CDC guidance regarding Covid 19 has changed in the past, and likely will change again as the pandemic continues to evolve.

I will not put the lives of those I love at risk, no matter how small the chances are. An at-home Covid test is extremely cheap insurance. I took the first of these yesterday, I'll take one again on Monday. I am doing this not to protect myself, but to protect those I love.

But, again, this is me. Anyone else's mileage may vary.

I also have not gone out much at all - especially to restaurants - during the pandemic, mostly because I live in a strongly "anti mask - anti vaccine" area. I don't want to be around people who willingly go out and mingle in public without knowing - or seeming to much care - whether or not they might be contagious.

But, again, that's just me. It's a free country after all, it appears that everyone can thus do whatever it is that one likes to do.

This from the CDC website:
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/quarantine-isolation.html?CDC_AA_refVal=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cdc.gov%2Fcoronavirus%2F2019-ncov%2Fif-you-are-sick%2Fquarantine.html

"For Anyone Who Has Been Around a Person with COVID-19

Anyone who has had close contact with someone with COVID-19 should quarantine for 14 days after their last exposure to that person, except if they meet the following conditions:

Someone who has been fully vaccinated and shows no symptoms of COVID-19 does not need to quarantine. However, fully vaccinated close contacts should:

Wear a mask indoors in public for 14 days following exposure or until a negative test result.
Get tested 5-7 days after close contact with someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19.

So Anne is all your family being tested also before coming to see you? I am sure you know even tho vaccinated you can still catch it. I know how diligent you are so I am just curious.
