Just Another Wednesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Just Another Wednesday

Postby Colliemom » Wed Nov 17, 2021 7:19 am

Still dark out there at this writing. Was awake at 4:30 and couldn’t go back to sleep, so finally got up an hour later. Breakfast is over, dogs have been out and went back to bed   and I’m watching the local news. It’s been talking a lot about the deadly plane crash on Beaver Island, which is out in Lake Michigan, 32 miles from the mainland. One of our local Real Estate brokers, another couple and the pilot were killed. The brokers 11 year old daughter was the only survivor. It’s been on the National News as well. The daughter is hospitalized with multiple broken bones but doctors said They will heal themselves and she is doing really well. The father apparently hugged his daughter in his arms as the plane crashed and they credit him with saving her life. Another miracle was that the U.S.Coast helicopter from Traverse City just happened to be in the air near the island, returning from a training mission and were able to assist as well.Thry said it was very rare for them to be in an area where they were able to respond that fast like that. They cover an area from Chicago all the way to Lake Superior. A Go Fund Me account was set up for the family and of yesterday, had $108,050 in it. Goal is $150,000. Money is coming in from all over, so despite the fact this country is so divided, people still care.

Judy, I think all the Turkey thighs are up here in Michigan. I’m looking for legs and can’t find any. Like Barbie, I’m a white meat eater except for the legs. I do have a whole Turkey thawing in the frig right now though. At 33 cents a pound, figured I would cook it up, package it into individual meals for me and the dogs both. Then will have the meat for over he winter.

I had no reaction from my booster shot. Only sore for awhile where I got the shot, but then I also got a flu shot at same time, so both arms were ouchie for a while that day

Painting project is coming along well. Took a break yesterday and took the dogs for a ride to Houghton Lake with me. We stopped at one of the state parks on the way home and walked around for about an hour. There were 3 camps in there. Figured maybe deer hunters as Firearms Deer Season started Monday. I had a deer cross I-75 in front of me on the way home, but she was about 200 feet ahead of me, so I had time to brake and slow up as she went across. I wasn’t driving the max speed limit either. About 5 miles an hour under. Not the first time and won’t be the last.

Ann, nice sunset picture. Your right, you do have a rough life

Shopping day for me as it’s “payday”. Hopefully I will have some money left after I finish

So guessI should get things ready so I can roll out after it gets daylight. Want to take advantage of mild day to cut out last two remaining wood pattern ornaments this afternoon. O’Sharon, I’ll be sending you some mild weather for a day or so, but more cold coming behind it.

Morning All, another nice day. Sue, today is my payday too. I will be paying bills and if anything left I might go shopping too. Lol Freezer is full so do not need groceries and not another spot in this apartment to place another thing. Well, might find a spot if I see a nice houseplant. :) I did group the plants I have on the wrought iron table, sat them on Dollar Tree trays (that look like cut glass) filled trays with pebbles and water. It’s suppose to create a humid environment for the plants. There was a security update for the IPad and now it takes forever to load YouTube videos. I searched solutions but do not understand the terminology and am afraid I will delete something important. Youngest granddaughter coming Friday to pickup card table and chairs I have had stored under the bed for 3 years. Hope she can solve the YouTube problem. Stalled long enough, will tackle the bills. Be safe

Mornin' ladies~~~
Just been reading here and good to see you ladies are doing normal things... mostly. Sheila so sad to read about you and your mom's health. Not a good time. Prayers to you both.

Pat, I think I saw a message from you awhile back, but darned it I can find it now. Here or on FB? I was going to respond after I read it, but never did that either. Sorry. :?

Still doing dad stuff. This morning was tracking down if insurance policies from the 60s were still valid. Nope. Finally found a place (Restoration Ministries) that will pick up most of the hard furniture YIPPEE! (bedroom sets, end tables and maybe some chairs, but the drivers will determine if he chairs are a yes or no. Anything will help at this point. Still haven't tackled the attic or the books yet or the years with of photo slides. Yep, I knew I'd be off the road for a year. :| Slow going but at least some progress is starting to show.

Hate to do say this, but I wish I was living on just my Financials (pension) only again. With Ma's estate last year, and now Dad's, I'm going to get hammered on taxes the next few years. And for so many years, I lived paycheck to paycheck. Ah, simpler times.

That's my news. Thinking about going to a cousins for Thanksgiving to give me a break for a day, but I'm not a turkey fan. Have a great day everyone.

Still a dim, foggy morning at just past 9. Possible showers by Friday, which we need. I have painting class at 10, so am getting ready to go on to Curves after class. Then back at the kitchen project.
Have a good day.

Shirl, you reminded me that my tablet said it had an update but since I had no signal at the campground I couldn't do it. I think my computer and tablet are still in the camper. I don't know much about plants. About all I have been able to grow is roses. I read one time that you could plant a rose upside down and it would still grow. I don't think I'm that bad. The bulbs I planted in a tub on the carport looked good all summer and now the leaves are dying. I will have to look them up and see what I have to do. My mother had Elephant Ears that would die every winter and come back in the spring.

We have another nice day. It's already 80. It's 78 in the house so think I'll have to turn the air conditioner back on. I woke up with my nose running and a headache. I'm sure it's sinus since my face hurts.

I put some black-eyed peas and ham hocks in the slow cooker. I wanted to get the ham hocks out of the freezer. I have never tried to cook vegetables in my slow cooker. It's not big enough to put a whole asparagus spear. If my head quits hurting I might go to town and look for turkey thighs and get some asparagus. I would buy a turkey if they were on sale but the stores around here don't even put the price of turkeys in the ads. They are not on sale and haven't been seeing a lot in the freezer cases at the stores.

Mini Moo was back for breakfast this morning and Sugar gave him a big sloppy kiss. He and Rascal are Sugar's favorite cats. I would like to know where he and his brother go off to.

Cheryl, hope you don't take a big tax hit. I had to cash an annuity when Harold went in the nursing home. Social Security counted that as income and cut my check almost in half for over a year.

Golden Corral is advertising their Thanksgiving dinner on TV and it's making me hungry. That was one of Harold's favorite places to eat. The nearest one is in Lafayette. They had closed down for Covid and just opened back up recently.

Good Morning, Martha and all who follow. Dark and foggy day here today at my house (typical fall/winter weather here); sun may put in an appearance later today. Like Velda, hoping for rain. It's edging up on the end of November, and we haven't had nearly enough rain. Really scary that California might be heading into the third year of severe drought, with the reservoirs still holding only a fraction of the water we need.

Martha, your rose story made me smile. Many years ago I lived in a place that had the ugliest, straggly-ist, thorny-ist roses one can imagine growing all along one wall of our house. One winter I had had enough, so one day I went out with my two-handled trimmer and cut all of the dang things off right at ground level (or even below, where I could dig the trimmer in a bit). Would have dug them up, but was a bit lazy, and I thought this would do the trick. For good measure, I completely covered up whatever was left up with a mixture of mulch and dirt. And stomped the dirt down, for good measure.

Did this do the trick? Well. . . nope. Not so much.

The next spring the roses appeared in a really spectacular fashion! They became bushy, the leaves large, green and healthy, and bloomed in an amazing profusion! I don't know what they were try to tell me, but I did not try to murder them again. Eventually, after a couple more years, they reverted back to scraggly-thorny, but I just left them alone.

Good morning. Was pretty chilly here this morning. Fog came in but not super thick like usual. Just drippy out on my back deck. I dont have anything planned for today so will just see what pops up. I dont have to go anywhere so that is good. I have a couple of shelving units being delivered tomorrow or Friday so this weekend I can organize my office AKA storage room, junk room. I have large closets so want to put a couple in there so I can get stuff out of the way. I ordered two swivel rocker chairs for my patio for next year and they are coming soon....I think. Unless they are on one of those boats offshore LOL I will put them in my office until good weather shows up next year. After I put them together of course.

I cut my Rhododendron right back to within an inch of it's life LOL It is very old, I am sure it has been here since the beginning of time. Then cut my Hydrangeas back. Again old. If they dont come back bigger and better than ever then they will get replaced. I already planted a few new bushes last spring. Couple of lilac bushes, azalea, and my burning bush. I cut back the bulbs that bloomed and I still have several to plant, just waiting for it to warm up a bit.

Not sure what dinner will be today. Had a bacon, mushroom, cheese omelet with half an avocado for breakfast. Tasty. Might make some blueberry muffins this afternoon we shall see.

Anne, the roses I have problems with are the hybrid teas. I have been trying for 15 years to get a Mr. Lincoln going. The last one died so will try again in the spring. I need to go to a nursery as soon as they go on sale and not buy one from Lowe's.

I read a book written by someone in the rose business about the patents and naming. It was really interesting. There seems to be a lot of completion in that business.

Karen, a very experienced physical therapist told me years ago that the invention of recliners was a horrible mistake. She said recliners took the place of rockers. If you are rocking your blood is circulating. My new recliner is also a rocker so I am circulating. Lol.Since I sit too much it’s a good thing. Enjoy your rockers.

Karen you are a youngster with a house and yard. I’m older than dirt in 4 rooms and not moving much. For me every little bit helps. :)

You can also buy a big turkey, and if the store has a butcher, ask them to use their saw to cut it right down the middle. Then, freeze one half and cook one. You can even do this with frozen birds, but since I like mainly thighs, I buy them.

Picked up a new propane alarm, rubber grommets for my stovetop rack, and a new GPS yesterday from Gander/Camping World. It was a long drive, but it was worth it because I was getting tired of having my old GPS give me wrong directions because the maps were so old and I could not update them. It lasted me 8 years, however. I have to get busy installing the propane alarm tonight and also to set up the new GPS.

Just on my lunch break. I heatd6 about that plane crash. So sad! At least the young girl survived.

I think the trick with rose bushes is to cut them way back in the fall. My roommate in Vista did that with mine and also put coffee grounds on the dirt around them. They loved that!

We were supposed to get a new Golden Corral built near my place when I first moved out here but then Covid hit and I think they scrapped that plan.

Back to work...

haven't been to Golden Corral for a very long time.. always enjoyed it though...
mom just called shocked me and I could hear her voice didn't sound like her but it was so much stronger than it's been for a very long time... she called to check on me...she had the infusion today which seems to have helped ... my brother text me the other night saying that when he talked with mom that she told him about the next door neighbor but he was confused so wanted to know what was going on so I told him what I'd heard.... then asked when he called told me that night so I told him about her having Covid but didn't think to call or text my sister she found out today via our other chat page the one that mom isn't on so we can talk over her needs) sister didn't understand why she wasn't told so my brother said he should have called and was sorry I'm having a tough time with her not calling either to see how she is or to call mom and just visit with her... really need to remember that while I am gone...
did box up some of mom's beanie babies remember that craze she bought into it whole heart so many in that room so they are going to be in bins and taken downstairs.... kids are bringing me some bins tomorrow and I will be able to bin things up and they will come some time while I'm gone and take them down stairs... guess if I have the energy to do it that will help told dd #1 that I was going to go to her house on Saturday still taking naps though at odd moments
need to locate some pellets for the stove asked my son in law to look into some out in Idaho he hasn't gotten back with me...
it was good that you found a taker for the wood furniture Cheryl
I had a friend that could start a rose from a slip of a branch put under a jar.... some can and some can't I love roses but can't say that I've ever really succeeded with them although I'd love to find one of those Sheila's Perfume hear they have the best fragrance... I'm into the fragrance more than other things doesn't smell good won't get it...

Sheila, I'm glad both you and your mom seem to be getting over the Covid hurdle.

I was planning to be on the road tomorrow but a package keeps not making it from UPS, so I'm giving them tomorrow. I believe I'll leave Friday whether it arrives or not tomorrow. Because I'm delayed I didn't finish closing up the casita or doing my dump and water fill yet. Those things I like to do last day before leaving. I did do laundry and cooked and froze some meals. Shut off water and power to the casita washing machine. Took down the outside line for laundry, etc etc. Mostly watched movies. Oh, got a call first thing this morning that my labs were back so had a virtual call with the nurse practitioner this afternoon. They did blood tests even though I had eaten something the other morning. Now she doesn't like some numbers and I don't trust them because it wasn't a fasting test. I told her I'd had a little bit to eat. I'm not thrilled with her. It's harder because I really liked the doctor that moved and she just didn't listen, or it seemed she didn't. Now this. So she told me we'd make an appt and redo the tests in 4 months. I told her I'd be in Texas then and I asked if she could order tests I could get in Texas. Nope. I've decided I'll either find a clinic there to do them or wait until I get to Utah and use the hospital/clinic I went to this past summer for my asthma. I liked them much better. And I'll never slow my blood work taken again if I haven't fasted. One of the results she doesn't like is my iron levels. So Google was my friend, and they should only be done fasting!

I love the cool/cold nights here, but not waking Ty before the day warms. In Texas I'll have to get used to sleeping with it warmer.... Will have no trouble getting used to warmer mornings. That said, after it warms up here, I've been loving it. I guess no where is perfect lol.
