Tuesday November 9

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Tuesday November 9

Morning All, having beautiful weather, sunny and in the 60’s. Life is boring in my little bubble. Just hanging at home. Don’t read the news and tv is repeats that I watched 30 years ago when they were new. Lol. Has anyone else noticed that they are revising old tv programs with new actors. I can understand why they don’t want to base programs on today’s life. Have a hair appointment and then to brother’s to help with some paper work. Be safe

Good morning all. I’ve been busy mulching leaves out of the driveway and yard the last night few days. Tree are still shedding their leaves but most of them are at least picked up and bagged! Need to take advantage of the good weather since the end of the week looks like rain and possibly snow. Dry leaves are so much easier to deal with! Exciting life I lead! I would much rather go and take a nice long drive somewhere but I have to be stern with myself and get this done! I’m glad the guys came Friday and repaired the chimney so it’s ready for winter. Furnace should be more efficient not that steam heat is all that efficient but it is what it is! Glad that Carol and Bill are settled in their winter home. Look forward to following their blog. If I can’t do it myself it’s fun to read about everyone’s adventures. Judy, have you been able to enjoy the beach yet? As I said before, my favorite part of FL. So now I need to get busy and get started outside. Temp is going up so it’ll be a good day to get out and enjoy it even if I’m working! Sue, is the snow supposed to hit you again? Hope you all have a great day.

Sharon I admire your dedication to good work. My attention span and my body doesn't last all that long. I spent some of my morning Dremeling nails and grooming on Jane and Lark. Audrey was scheduled for some of the same but once she heard the sound of the Dremel she has declined my offers to come in off the back deck. She is too smart but will come inside eventually and the grooming table is up all the time. So instead of arguing with her I will take some books and audio tapes back to the library, run a few other errands and take a hike with Lark with her nice short nails.

Shirlv, I hear your sighs..... Feel free to remind us of things to consider when choosing or future housing choices. For example: not on busy highways that no one wants to drive on. Walking choices in the neighborhood that don't includes unsafe highways or mountain climbing..... Close enough to family and/or friends to stay connected but still optimize your independence.....

And I don't have any of the smart TV streaming services or cable, etc. The man in the recliner watches way too much Netflix. I have to admit I enjoyed watching all the episodes of Bridgerton, the Crown and Virgin River. They kept me sane when my body was pretty much immobile last winter. I am looking into maybe adding Apple TV or something that I can watch on my own schedule and take with me on the road.....

I did ride my bike to the beach a few days ago, but was only able to take a peek because my bike lock was stuck, so I could not lock up my very expensive bike. I also took a long bike ride to the nearby town (aka "expensive tourist trap") and took photos there. Also, it has been really cold for the past few days, and on the coldest day I got several loads of laundry done. And yesterday I finally did clean out and then hose out my two dirty storage bins underneath. Tossed some stuff and rearranged what I wanted to keep.

Anyway, I am going to get my bike off my rack and head down to the beach in a couple of minutes. This is a very nice, and pleasant campground, but it is a hike to the beach, so I have to use my bike. Lots of greenery between sites and far enough back from highway so it is also very quiet, in spite of it being full and tons of tourists already driving past. They have a very nice paved bike path along the roadway, however. Will park my bike next to the boardwalk, lock it, and go for a beachwalk.

This morning I finally decided I was cold enough at night to switch from my lightweight summer comforter to my medium-weight down comforter, which is much warmer! (Of course, when I got up this morning, I found out that I had left the window over my bed open all night--but it has been cold other nights when it is closed.) Bed is remade and everything packed away for a few months again.

Good Morning, BJ, your little puppy is darling!!!
Big change in my life yesterday. Sold my car! First time in 70 years that I have not had my own car!
Sold it to Car Max. They were a pleasure to do business with
Love these fall days. Hate the time change.
Judy, what town are you near?

BJ, that pup is adorable. Lyn, it must be bittersweet to have sold your car, but also freeing. Tina, I spend too much time using my Roku... Watching TV shows and movies where they aren't live and I can pause, etc. When I do watch something live I usually get distracted and miss parts, so this works best for me. If I get distracted on these, I go back, if I want to. Although I'm probably watching too much.

I'm not getting much done here. Since I have to unhook in the morning I'm going to go out soon and unhook the sewer, water and cable. That'll just leave the electric. At least that's my current intentions. As I said, it's a lazy day.

Had my Rheumy appt this morning, dang the wind is biting out there. Cloudy with rain showers predicted but none since early this morning. Snowed on Siskiyou summit last night so first sign of things to come.

Went to Home Depot and got 2 new outside motion lights that I will put up this weekend if it isnt freezing outside. Then we stopped at Jersey Mike's for one of their delicious sandwiches, I am stuffed now. Wont need dinner.
Have some errands to run tomorrow then home early Thursday morning. Dont have to return til middle of December for my eye appts.

Lyn, I am at Grayton Beach State Park, which is about 20 miles east of Destin, on the Florida Panhandle. I'll be moving on Sunday to Henderson State Park, which is more directly on the beach, and right in the middle of Destin. Will be able to walk across the highway to big stores such as Walmart and such. Much busier place than here, but closeness to Gulf of Mexico and stores will be nice. I would NOT recommend coming anywhere near here during spring break, which I am told lasts from February to April!

Chilly last night, but about 73 today and sunny. Beach was nice, but I am tired from riding my bike and then walking down the beach. This part of Florida has the absolute whitest sand I have ever seen. It is just as white as the White Sands NM sand, except it is quartz.

Well, all that anticipation and suspense will have to wait some more, I guess. No news today. No one seems to remember hearing about a meeting with the lady owner and she never came in. (I know I didn't imagine that!). So I still have no idea what is going to happen and what the great news is all about.

We drew names today for our Secret Santa person. I got the name of the current owner's wife. She is a young, Korean (I think) gal. She is attending school to be a veterinarian. She is pretty nice but doesn't have much of a sense of humor and can get a little testy at times. So no gag gifts or silly gifts for her. We each filled out a sheet with things/food/stores, etc that we like so we can get a little better idea of what to get for the person we picked. She hasn't turned her sheet in yet so will have to wait to see what I can get for her.

There have been mistakes being made on the different tasks with making the joints so we decided that we need some quality control, so we worked on a task today and helped each other perfect it. I thought I was doing it well but I was shown a better way to do it so I worked on that all day. If things are not done right by one person, everyone else is affected by it as it goes down the line to get finished. So it is in everyone's best interest (and the company's) to get everyone on board with doing each task well. I feel I can always learn more and better ways to do things too. I want to take pride in my work, even on marijuana joints!I :D

Things are getting busy around here with activities starting up now. Activities that can be moved outdoors, will be. Indoor activities will require proof of vaccination and wearing a mask.

A bit cooler today and windy. I will open my windows tonight to enjoy the breeze if it doesn't get too cold. Had a window open last night and woke to a very chilly bedroom! Just pulled the covers up a little higher around my head!

they are revising old tv programs with new actors. I can understand why they don’t want to base programs on today’s life.

Shirl, "today's life" is not too exciting and quite depressing, so I can see why they want to revise the old shows, which had happier and more simple times. I prefer to watch the original old shows with the original actors tho. Sitcoms seem to be becoming a thing of the past now. The humor of modern sitcoms is really lame and too much arguing and bad language. Now it is just reality shows and "action/drama" shows (ie; violence). I rarely find anything truly entertaining to watch now days.

I strained my neck this morning so have been dealing with the pain of that all day. Always something!

Lyn, sorry you had to sell your car. Do you still have your scooter? Do you still swim every day? I want to get down to San Diego soon. When I do, I will call you and we can go out to lunch and chat! Linda says "hi"!

Bought some sweet corn on the way home from work at WM so will have that for dinner. Not sure where it comes from this time of year but it looked pretty good.

Have a good night!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I am having trouble with my computer or internet. Some things take forever to load. I should get out my other computer and see how that one works but not that ambitious.

When I went to Walmart I remembered to look for a motion activated solar light and they had one. It is really bright The light by the old carport isn't very bright. I should have gotten one of the new ones for over there. The raccoons come to eat what cat food is left at dark. I'm sure sure Sugar can smell them and barks looking that way. She would go crazy if she could see them.

My son was taking his dog to the vet for his check up so I met them over there. They give Frankie a heart worm shot that is good for a year. I didn't know they had that. My vet gives one for six months. I tell my son that Frankie won the doggie lottery. They found him in their yard hurt. It looked like he had been hit by a car. He still kind of limps but nothing was broken. I don't think he was anyone's dog because he was skin and bones and had heart worms. He is healthy now.

Carol, glad you made it to Mazatlan and got off the bad roads. I looked up why they put the topes and it's to slow the crazy Mexican drivers down. I crossed the border in Brownville with friends years ago. I don't remember where we were going but wanted to get a taxi. The taxi was a pickup truck with kind of a cover on the bed and bench seats on each side. When the driver would get to a corner he would honk. I was told who ever honked first had the right away. I put an X on that. I would never ride with a taxi driver in Mexico again. Years ago when the Vietnamese arrived in this area they were crazy drivers.

Judy, you sure don't want to be at the beach for spring break. We spent the night at a campground just across the highway from the beach when spring break was going on. You couldn't get across the highway unless there was an accident and the traffic stopped. The spring breakers would drive slowly up and down the road day and night. They would put plastic in the bed of pickup trucks and fill them with water like a wading pool. If the police were arresting drunk drivers I don't know where they were putting them all. Every year when I was in college we would try to figure out how we could go but we couldn't afford it.

Lyn, I hate to think about not having a car. I would have to move to town.

I need to get things loaded for my campout on Thursday. I was going to start loading up yesterday and today but mostly ran the roads. I hate the time change. I have a hard time getting Mr P doctored and fed and Sugar walked before it gets dark. Need to start earlier.

have the munchies aww that sounds good a bag of Munchies but don't have any...
just another did not much other than bathroom runs and got a COVID test it's not a rapid one though so won't know until afternoon was going to stay till I learn what the out come is but am 3 hours away from Jackson which is 4-5 hours from Ogden maybe longer as I am going the long way as mom calls it ... a beautiful drive plus one of my friends sells calendars that he makes with his pictures in it and I want to get one there is a place in one of the towns on the way that you can stop and buy one at which is what I am planning on doing... so perhaps I will have my brother take me to Jackson on Thursday if I have COVID will either hang out in Jackson or come back up here be a help with mom as you can expose them more than they are at this time... truly hope it's a negative test... was going to do the rapid one but she said that I have had a cold long enough that the rapid test might not be accurate so that is why the longer wait...
good thing is that I can still taste and no fever so truly feel it is a cold but at the same time Linda thought she had a cold
everyone is in bed even mom is asleep although she is due for her 8 hr pill shortly so if she isn't awake before I go to bed will give it to her when she wakes up to go to the bathroom...
I am afraid that the leaves would win... truly don't think it is something that I can still do... that and shovel snow...
I want to have a motion light put on the 5th wheel it had one then I had son in law change the bulb and he told me that it was burnt keep forgetting to have it looked into... usually something more important trumps it... like getting the slides fixed... had I thought last year when I had something eating my plants would have gotten a tail camera set up and seen what it was... but didn't think of it till some time a little bit ago... my brother has ring on his door and looked at it this morning to see what was on the porch/ramp there was a deer playing around...
those topes remind me of a street that I used to avoid because of all the speed bumps... if I recall 11 or was it 7 whichever and not just small ones you had to crawl over them... they are ok if you can do the speed limit but these you couldn't ...
I am rambling as I can't remember what all everyone was doing so think I'll wish you all a good night
have a great day

First of all, belated Happy Birthday to Beth. Hope you had a good one, and I wish for you safe travels in the coming days, and in all days.

Lyn, so sorry to hear about you selling your car, but I think you are wise to know that it "was time" for you. My Dad refused to give up driving until he was in his late 90's and had a serious accident. Interestingly, (and I obtained and read the police report) he was not at fault; but this was about when he decided to give up his car. I know it was an extremely sad day for him, he loved driving more than anyone I have ever known. It was my Dad that taught me to drive - on a stick shift, no less! - when I was about 16.

If it is any consolation to you, Lyn, neither my son nor my daughter (both 30-somethings) drive, nor do they own cars. The both live in the San Francisco bay area, where public transportation is everywhere, and comparatively cheap, and neither of them wants the hassle nor the expense of owning and maintaining a vehicle.

When I moved to my smallish northern California town more than ten years ago, I was happy to know that public transportation was readily available here. It might not go everywhere, but a short walk after being dropped off at the bus stop will get me where I want to go. There was no public transportation of any kind in the Sierra foothills community where I lived for 30 years before moving here.

I have not used the bus system here a lot (not at all since the beginning of the pandemic) buy I have used it, and find it do-able and actually enjoyable. Not looking forward to the day I will need to give up my car keys (LOL - if I can ever find them, that is!) but it is a comfort to know that public transportation is available here to help me age-in-place.

Good day, all. Stay well, stay safe!
