Hope everyone is well today and heading south or prepping for winter, whatever your case may be.

Still plugging along at Dad's. Found some jewelry hidden in a feminine hygiene box that I'll have to see if it's worth anything., but the original product went in the trash.

Today's find was 3 $50 savings bonds that I'm sure he forgot he had. This is why I've got to go thru everything!

Good morning Cheryl,

I found the kitten still hiding in my porch this morning. He/she hadn't left the spot it was last night. I left food and water out and none of it was touched. I was able to encourage it to leave it's hidey spot and finally got it to leave out the door. I hope he/she finds it's way back to it's family down the street. I feel really bad about the whole thing.

My index finger got bit pretty good and is a bit sore and swollen this morning. I have been putting antibiotic cream on it (I washed it really good right away with an alcohol based solution first) and now just rubbed on the CBD balm to see if that helps it feel better. The scratches are very light on my arm but I cleaned those well too right away.

Not feeling too motivated this morning but really need to at least take out the trash and clean up the kitchen today.

Barbara, that was an unvaccinated cat! If that finger doesn't get way better within 24 hours, you need to visit Urgent Care, you may need antibiotics! Bites can be very bad, even minor ones. And be careful with antibiotic cream or ointment as you don't want to seal off and create an abscess! Feel for both you and the cat.
A partially cloudy day here. Possible few drops rain at some point, after a gorgeous fall day yesterday. I'm headed to Costco to pick up dessert for tomorrow- a pumpkin pie. Have heard on Nextdoor that we may get more little goblins than usual, but won't know until it's over for sure. I also need to pick up ice as our fridge ice maker is not working and we are in discussion with Samsung as there is a partial recall of some related part. And, son just "has" to have a donut for Halloween and Cider! Then I'll be cooking up a batch of chili for eating next few days.
Cheryl, I sure get the going through carefully each and every thing. I'm still finding important papers mixed in with husbands files , including cash! People have said, oh just take the whole lot to a big public shredder, until I describe certain items I have found buried in those drawers! Going through his pockets before donating his clothes was easy compared to this deeper dive for "treasure"!

Good morning!

Got up to frost and clouds/fog! The hibiscus plant must come in today. Now sunny out, but with two sore arms, don't think I'll be going anywhere. Since left arm has been a problem, I had booster in right so I knew what was causing which ache.

Barbie, after my BFF's granddaughter's dog bite, I don't think I'd be messing around with a bite and scratch from an animal.

Cheryl, nice finds you are making! When my dad died in Kansas, his brother and sister took care of his things, but they did save some for me. My niece and I were going through a bag of old phone bills, etc. when she found a letter. A little sleuthing led me to a possible stepsister - someone I vaguely knew. Because she had posed medical questions to my dad, I looked her up. Seems there was a circle of people in her mother's life who believed he was her father, including him. She recently did a DNA test - no match to my dad or the man who raised her.

Going to see if I can get a few things done before the nap I feel coming on! Have a good day and those in the path of bad weather, be safe!

Velda, I concur with you 100% (or 1,000%, if that is even possible!). Another concern I always have regarding any kind of bite from an animal of unknown origin or unknown vaccination status is. . . (not sure I should even mention this, it is pretty unlikely. . .) is rabies.

I guess I missed the post about Barbie being bitten by the cat. . . I try to read all of the posts, does anyone have a link?

Was very pretty yesterday here too, this morning when I got up, it definitely looked like rain - at the moment bright blue skies with scattered clouds. . . but still hoping for more rain.

I'm still debating about doing the Halloween thing here at my house (I am a life-long lover of Halloween) but with the current not-vaccinated status of most children of Trick-or-Treat age, I'm thinking I will again give it a pass, as I did last year.

Probably I am over-cautious, but the thought of opening my door multiple times to dozens of small goblins, maybe one or two with runny noses, just doesn't thrill me.

Maybe next year. . .

We had a good time at the Tabasco restaurant. The food was good, a lot of it and the price was right. One lady got a Shrimp Poboy and It' s about the largest one I have seen. She had to have 2 boxes to put her leftovers in. I had fried shrimp and didn't eat all of my fries or bring them home.. I got a t-shirt for my grandson and a toy for his sister. It's been a beautiful day. A friend sent me a present by Carolyn. I didn't know why she would be sending me a present until I saw it. It's an old cook book from when she was cleaning out her mother house and a cat book mark. She knows I like cook books. The book mark is cute.

Anita, the DNA testing is finding a lot of secrets. I think my arm hurt more and longer from the booster shot than it did for the first two shots.

I haven't heard if the Trick or Treating is going to be tonight or tomorrow night here. Each town decides when it will be. I don't think I have ever had a kid come here. I would bring my boys to town. I finally quit buying candy because I would eat it. This year I only bought a box of the snack size pretzels.

We didn't turn our porch light on to welcome trick or treaters but the weather was bad, I'm not sure if they will have it again tonight. They had a huge party in town for kids so maybe they are all full of candy. Halloween used to be huge here. It was great fun in the beginning and almost everyone dressed up, (except the year of the streakers) and went downtown to what was called the strip. I can remember one night the crowd the strip was so large that I was unable to get out of the sea of people for almost a block. Sadly by 1979 the crowd that took over the strip was so rowdy and did so much damage the city decided to shut the Halloween party down. Enrollment was over 20,000 at that time and SIU had been named at or near the top of best party schools. By 1982 most of the strip bars had closed and the street take overs had been stopped along with the Halloween party. But as the town successfully shut down Halloween the high rating for being a great party school plunged, along with a large drop in the enrollment.

Barbie I'm concerned about your cat bite too, is your tetanus shot up to date? Cheryl it sounds as though you have a huge job. Hope you can take a break and travel for a bit sometime before spring.

Martha I like Tabasco so was hoping it would be a good place. I'll give it a try if I get out that way.

I'm in the large gravel event parking lot for a cafe/pie shop. Nothing spectacular about where I'm parked. But it's a good location on my way. As a Harvest Host stop, I'll do my money spending before leaving in the morning. I figure breakfast and then a couple pieces of pie to go. One for my host tomorrow. Hopefully I pick something she'll like!

It felt so good to get out of my sweatshirt. Back to warm weather now, for sure. The weather app I just looked at says 82 for today's high and 56 for tonight's low. Yay. No heat or AC needed.

Hi everyone. I don't post often but read the posts almost daily. I felt strongly about replying to Barbie's cat bite story.

My Mom used to show cats. We were at the international cat show in Houston, TX in 2001. One of our friend's cats bit her. This was a fully vaccinated and healthy cat. The cat bit her on the finger (along with multiple other places). The cat was frightened by the smell of a mountain lion they had in the show hall before the show for a photo shoot for Iams. When my friend walked by the spot carrying her cat, the cat freaked out and bit her.

I had a rental car so I took my friend and her husband to the ER in downtown Houston. I told her and her husband that she needed an antibiotic injection, not just a prescription for pills. Cat bites are very infectious, whether the cat is vaccinated or not. Well, they cleaned out the bites and bandaged her up and gave her a prescription for an antibiotic. By the time we left ER, it was almost midnight in Houston, a town I am not familiar with, and I didn't know where a pharmacy was. We went back to the hotel and I told her and her husband to get the antibiotic first thing in the morning. I actually encouraged them to go back to ER the next day for the injection. They didn't (her husband was a know-it-all and didn't generally listen to women).

I flew out the next day back to Portland. My friend and her husband came back 2 days later. The cat bite turned into blood poisoning and their flight was met by an ambulance on the tarmac in Portland and she was taken directly to the hospital. She was lucky to survive and spent 4 days in the hospital.

Barbie, go to urgent care and get an antibiotic injection. If you don't, and you see a red streak starting up your hand and arm starting at the site of the bite, go directly to ER. This isn't just a simple animal bite. This is a serious injury that requires immediate medical care.

I plan to go to Urgent Care in the morning. Right now, the swelling is pretty much gone, no pain unless I press on the bite area but then only a little. No redness around the bite area and I can move my finger with no problem. No temperature and feel fine. It has been about 6 years since I got my tetanus shot so probably do need one.

Thank you for your concern. I was not aware of the serious dangers of cat bites (and I have been bit a lot over the years! ).
Better safe than sorry tho.

Barbie, hope your bite doesn't get infected. You and I have probably been bitten by cats a lot more than most people.

I have been to Avery Island and the Tabasco Plant many times over the years. Usually taking friends and relatives that are visiting. They usually have plant tours and there is a museum. Years ago you could go in the warehouse where the big vats were. The smell was strong. Now they have a walk way along the production line that is glassed in. They built the restaurant a few years ago. One of the attractions is their Jungle Garden. You can drive thru the gardens and get out in some areas. In the spring there are a lot of Camellias and Azaleas blooming.

Beth, staying at a pie shop sounds good. After lunch today, we sat and talked about food and places to eat for an hour. lol

Glad you are doing well Barbara! Yes on tetanus. My sister in law and brother in law ran an exotic game breeding facility for probably 25 years. For some reason it was always Bill who got bit or scratched and ended up needing antibiotics! The cats all liked Joyce, and, of course she was more careful. I think the danger of infection is partially because they catch bugs, birds, lizards, squirrels etc when they are outdoor cats. Their stomach acid protects them , but the exotic bacteria on their teeth and claws can easily cause you harm! I certainly admire what you do. If you don't have a pair of thick leather gloves, you should! The cats you work with are afraid and can hurt you easily. And you might want to pick up a set of eye protection, if you normally don't have glasses on and wear when you attempt a catch. One eye scratch could be catastrophic!

Beth isn't it amazing the stuff we have in our RVs? I totally emptied mine since it went to storage and my bedroom closet is full of clothes, the linen closet is full of towels and bathroom cabinet stuff, Dad's closet has all my basement storage stuff and one kitchen cabinet has all my kitchen stuff. Not looking first to having to put it all back in the Spring. Ugh!

I can't ever remember getting a tetanus booster.
