Final Friday of October

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Final Friday of October

Postby Colliemom » Fri Oct 29, 2021 7:10 am

Morning all. Cereal was on the menu this morning as neighbors left me some, Along with a couple eggs and some cheese, when They left for FL on Wednesday. I am generally not a cereal eater, but decided to have some this morning. Decided I am not keeping what little is left. To many carbs and sugar in thestuff.

I completed my “chores”I said I wanted to do the other day. Everything is done outside except for the leaves still coming off two trees. But that’s no biggie. Will get after thrm with the blower again this weekend. Otherwise lawn tractor is serviced and put away. Oil is drained from small snowblower. Bought some yesterday and will put some in tomorrow. Flowerbed is cleaned out and driveway markers are in place. I have the final Thanksgiving wood cut out traced on the ply wood and will cut it later today. First have a couple errands in town this morning.

Sandi,I sorry about the outcome of the hearing.Hoping for better news next week.

O’Sharon, got a laugh about your discovering what the X was for. Frustrating when you lose an entire post though. I find the X comes in handy when I start Coffee and then find somebody started and posted before I finished mine. So I copy my post and paste it to the other one and then go back to my original one and hit the famous X, thus removing my post.

Shelia, good luck with the shoe hunt  I think your tootsies might get a bit chilly without them though. Don’t stop posting your ramblings about your mother’s situation though. You need to have others to talk to besides family. Reading through what you have been saying, I think your dd is right. Your brothers house would be the best place for your mom for now. You have no guarantee how any of it is going to work out. Your mom’s current age, physical and health conditions are all coming into play here and she needs to be where things are handicap accessible and help is available to her. Sure, your family could sink some money into her house, but at this point, I don’t think it is wise. There are too many uncertainties right now. You cannot do it all and physically may not be able to either. Can you handle cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, physically helping your mom get to a shower or a commode, out to the car to a doctors appt., sleep soundly at night without worrying about her trying to get up and falling again, etc. The answer is no.eventually it will take a toil in your health. Talk with your brother and offer your help so you both can do what’s best for your mom. See how it works out. She may wind up back in the hospital or you may find that there is no alternative except a care facility. In the meantime, you can check some places out. Take it one day, one week at a time.

Barbie, sounds like you are doing great at work. But I wonder if exposure to the pot may be causing some of your health issues. Maybe your are getting an allergic reaction.

Well, I guess I will move along here. Have a nice day and stay safe.

Morning All, as usual watching the weather on this dismal day. Nor’easter coming up the bay is usually bad news because of serious flooding. Accu weather says rain starting in 51 minutes. They are usually right, how do they do that. Will keep the cell phone charged. Sharon, glad witches and goblins didn’t wisk you away. :) Sandi, so sorry that you are left stressing again. Arm chair traveled to the Cotswold last night so will see where I can fly to, today. Will be staying home this weekend. Beth, safe travels. Others, be safe.

Good morning, Sue, and all who follow. Thank you, also, Sheila, for posting on your mother's (and yours) current difficulties. Much food for thought here.

Sue, I agree on all points with what you have written. . . pretty much what I was getting ready to say. But I - like all of us reading here - are at a remove; and every situation like this is different, and all these kinds of situations are heart-rending.

Sheila, I wish for you the very best, whatever you decide. It is an extremely difficult time for you just now, and I send to you my heartfelt best wishes.

The Cotswolds are lovely, Shirlv. I was there very briefly in 2018, but would really like to go back. I spent only a few hours in Chipping Camden, but my next place will be Chipping Norton. Another place to armchair travel is the farm in the Lake District that was owned by Beatrix Potter--https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/features/beatrix-potters-hill-top She had a difficult life with her parents because they forbid her to marry, but at the age of about 40, she used the money from her books to escape and buy a farm where she lived most of the rest of her life. Lovely place. She ended up buying a lot of land to preserve it from development and donated it all to the National Trust on her death. Peter Rabbit's garden is still at her home there, also. In her 50s, she married the realtor who sold her much of her land and lived happily ever after.

Big news! Last night I bought a ticket to London and started to plan a trip to England and Scotland for May-June 2022, so I get to armchair travel while planning and then reminisce through photos when I come back! I've been thinking of this trip for over a year, but have been postponing the commitment of actually buying a plane ticket because I have been worried about my ability to do a lot of walking. However, I decided I will never be any younger, so am going ahead with it and will just do what I can. Got a cheap hotel in London and will be doing B&Bs for the rest of the time. (Obviously, I will need to start doing much more walking each day to get my old body in better shape!)

Heading to the Florida Panhandle tomorrow morning, so just finished packing up. Also, they fixed the washer and dryer, so just did a bunch of laundry. Whew! Got to get last load from the dryer.

Judy that's so exciting. Take lots of pictures, please.

Sheila, I got a pair of sketchers on sale because one of the ladies I worked with this summer was always wearing them. Mine are a tad big, but I love that my feet breathe in them. I'm not good at shoes that make my feet cold and sweat at the same time lol. These don't do that. I hope you're successful finding some you'll like.

I'm at a Walmart for the night. They got over $70 from me, so I don't consider it free lol

I went and got Mr. P's medicine and some more of the special food he's on. When I got home I decided to mow and just finished. It was very cloudy and I though it might rain. After I finished the sun came out. It's very windy and only 66. Instead of putting on a jacket I put on a long sleeve denim shirt. The shirt wasn't enough and I was cold. I think I will have to finally turn the heat on tonight. It had been staying 77 in the house but it's down to 74 and will probably go down more tonight.

I have a pair of Sketcher tennis shoes I like. I have a closet full of shoes and all I want to wear are the Easy Spirit ones with the low back. I am so spoiled to those shoes. I looked for them the last time I went to Shoe Station and they don't have the ones I like and I don't see them on line. Hopefully it's a seasonal thing and they will have them later.

I actually threw one of my shirts with holes away. Thank goodness the trash truck passed before I got weak and went and got it. I started a bag of clothes to donate.

We have one of our Meetup meals tomorrow at the restaurant where the Tabasco Plant is in New Iberia. I better set my alarm while I'm thinking about it. The menu doesn't look like they have a lot of choices but I like to go through their store. I'm sure I won't make it out of there without something.

It is a beautiful day, but with 3 o'clock appointment for booster, I didn't go anywhere. Kids came with Amazon packages and I thought Alan was going to have a go at getting the Sling seat unstuck, but I guess his day had been long enough.

Judy, I just looked today and right now Ireland is under 'no travel' recommendation, but I'm still hoping for June. I know others in the group going bought their airline tickets, but I haven't done that yet. Beth, on to new adventures! Martha, I need to weed out my denim capris! Some are pretty worn. Sue, I don't have that yard work, but I have some winter preparations that need to be done with vehicles and the patio. Shirl, my favorite videos lately have been glaciers calving. Wow! I saw a little bit in Alaska, but there are some monsters as Beth knows.

Sheila, I wondered about fuses for your slides, but I doubt more than one would go at the same time. I would think it would be something like the batteries to have none retract. I love all my Sketcher shoes! One of the Sling wives was wearing a pair at an event 3 years ago, and I hit an outlet store (there's one in Yuma). Went to one here in Washington in May and bought more.

Our mountain snow melted and Monica says the river is up plus there are 4 deer and some kayaks. Nice way to end her week.

Have a new occasional table to put together!

I would love to go to Ireland! I will never forget flying over it when I was in my 20s and went to Europe with my ex. I could not believe how green it was--truly the emerald isle! I would like to go for a very few days to Belfast to see a church that some of my ancestors are buried at, but I am afraid I am just not going to have time, and two or three days is probably just not worth it.

Hopefully, Ireland will open up for travelers so you can go when planned. We do NOT need another rise in COVID cases!!!!

And I wish I could just go into a store and buy shoes!! My feet do not have an ounce of fat on them, but the ball of my feet is very wide, and I have a high arch, plus I have small feet, so I need shoes that are adjustable in the front like my sandals are. Otherwise I have to wear an extra-wide size 6.5 and the back part will fall off my feet! I even have a hard time buying snow boots because of my high arch. Would love to buy some canvas sketchers, but have tried in the past and they just don't fit me.

I forgot about my time change today. Haha, Ty doesn't need a clock. When we went to Utah his 5 o'clock dinner quickly became 6. About quarter to 5 today he was sitting by his bowl telling me to get ready lol If my brain is working we'll be back to 6 for feeding in Texas in a few weeks.

Tomorrow night I'm staying at a Harvest Host location known for their pies. The following night I'm staying at a boondockers welcome home and hope to get a piece of pie tomorrow to give the host Sunday. It's hard to know what to give, but hopefully she'll appreciate a piece of pie.

Beth, have you stayed with Harvest Host or Boondockers Welcome before? I have heard good things about them.

I set up the cat trap tonight in the neighbor's back yard and waited. Took until after dark before I heard the trap close. It was the orange tabby kitten. I brought the trap home and put it in my porch before I was going to transport to the Humane Society. The trap door came open and the kitten ran out. He was loose in my porch. I tried to pick him up to put him in the carrier but as soon as I got ahold of him, he got scared and scratched and bit me pretty good. :o I decided to let him go but he is still hiding out there and doesn't know the door is open yet. I talked to the TNR lady and told her what happened. She told me where to order the same trap she uses and it isn't much more money than this POS trap I bought at Home Depot. I will return this one and order the other one like she has. I have used one of hers before, and it is much more user-friendly and secure. It pays to have good equipment!

The lady next door said she got her $600 CA stimulus check today, so I should be getting mine soon! Yay! I had forgotten about that so it is an unexpected bonus for me!

I am tired tonight so I think I will get to bed early. Have lots to do tomorrow, inside and out.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Barbie, I always zip tie the trap doors closed just in case.

I have been seeing a lot of posts on Facebook about Boondockers Welcome and Harvest Hoast. It looks like one of them bought out the other one and there are a lot of complaints about not being able to get the sites to work. I looked into joining Boondockers Welcome about the time all this was going on and it never went anywhere.

I belonged to both groups when they started out. They are both good. The merger is difficult for some to understand because they are still separate entities, and if you belong to both, you see all of each of the properties on one map. I had let my memberships lapse because I was workamping so much that I wasn't doing as much traveling. Now I've rejoined. The complainers are not listening and giving out so much misinformation. I honestly think many of them aren't members of Harvest Host in particular, but have been claiming to be with hosts. It's getting pretty bad. So now they have set up an online system to request stays and a new uproar. Well, you can't request online unless you're a member. They say the hosts should be responsible for checking. Well, these are mainly small businesses and they mainly like the online system because they know those people are legitimate. Lots of interesting things happening lol. That said, I, personally, prefer Harvest Hosts, but I can spend too much money at some of them lol. They are mainly only one night stays and I pick ones to stay at based on if it's a place I'd like to visit. Boondockers Welcome are mainly fellow rvers who allow people to stay on their property when they are there, usually. The comaraderie is nice, but sometimes after a day traveling I don't want to be sociable lol. I've never had a bad experience with either.

Martha, if you're considering both or either, don't listen to the negative crap on FB. Sometimes I think those people need to get a life. ( And most having trouble with the new merged website won't listen when told to update their app ... Or think that the merger means they should see all of both places even though they've only paid for one of them.)
