Morning, Coffee Fans :-) - RAIN!!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Morning, Coffee Fans :-) - RAIN!!

Postby Cudedog » Wed Oct 20, 2021 10:16 am

Good morning!

Just finished my first cuppa, getting ready for #2.

This October has been an interesting month, thus far! The annual October Rains have begun early this year (Early? Well, who knows? Compared to the last few years they are early, compared to the last tens of years that I have lived here, they are pretty much "on time").

Sorry, Sheila, I think it was you that asked. . . have been having some computer "issues" so haven't been totally on the ball with my replies. . . but the first (relatively minor) rains that swept over parts of Northern California of a few weeks past (these rains missed my house, though. . .) mostly "dampened" the raging fires. I'm looking at the forecast for the rest of the week, and on into next, and I am seeing "Pineapple Express", which, loosely translated, means "Whole Lotta Rain".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pineapple_Express

So any fires that are still smoldering will likely (hopefully) be extinguished. . . I say "hopefully" because even after a really bad fire has passed through an area, fire can remain burning underground (!) as the roots of the trees are slowly consumed.

Underground fire can be sheltered from rain, unless the rain is really intense, and goes on for a long time. LOL, think "Pineapple Express":

Image

Next up: threat of mudslides in the burn areas; also possibility of excessive amounts of sediment being washed into reservoirs, slippery roads (possibly leading to accidents) due to rain mixing with road debris accumulation from the last many months.

Gotta love California! It's always something!

Afternoon all. Sunny and cool. Anne, no sure what to wish for your weather, sounds dismal any way you go. Will be another day of sorting and shredding paper. I work at it until mu eyes cross then walk away. A day to do office chores, pay bills, etc. Will enjoy the fresh air on the way to the dumpster. . Simple pleasure for the simple minded. :D Be safe

Wonderful that northern California is and will be getting rain! I noticed that Napa is also getting rain, although they are on the tail end of it, but at least there are substantial chances of rain all this week.

Been horribly lazy today. Slept in and am still having problems keeping my eyes open. Got to get up and take my chair to the beach, after putting on mosquito protection, that is. My small mosquito bites are staying small for now, but I think the benadryl i took last night is affecting me.

Shirl, this simple minded person made biscuits this morning and ate 3. Like I need a biscuit much less 3. Maybe I won't eat lunch. I had 3 cups of coffee so should be full. After you posted about buying a filing cabinet I started measuring to see if a 2 drawer cabinet would fit under the table my TV is on. The file drawer I am using is an old plastic drawer and it's a pain to use. File folders won't stay standing up and I can't use hanging files in it. The last few times I have been to Lafayette I didn't feel like stopping at Office Depot to see what they have.

It finally dried enough that I could make it to the pond yesterday. I need to bring a bucket the next time I go. I caught 4 mullets and I'm going to relocate them to the bayou. They usually won't bite on a worm so hope I can catch them again. I either caught four 6 inch bass or the same one 4 times. I'm glad to see the bass are reproducing.

Mr. P had a urinary infection and he was one sick boy. The vet said he was doing better this morning. He will probably be at the vet until Friday. It's like the hospitals, everyone gets well on Friday.

Martha, if I had been there I would have eaten 3 too. Lol. I dream about biscuits and baking one on top of a chicken pot pie. I priced file cabinets and decided no. Bought two of the ugliest used cabinets for $15 on Facebook market place. My granddaughter and I met the man in Target’s parking lot. He was nice even loaded in our truck. Someone had painted them speckled. Hideous
Gave one to daughter and she stuck hers in a closet too. Lol. It is an incentive to file stuff.

I bought my file cabinets on the Marketplace also. One really nice wooden one just like brand new for $25 The other one was a black metal one to put my printer on for $10. I love the Marketplace but sometimes you have to be quick.

Breakfast was boring, scrambled egg and sliced avocado LOL Took shrimp out for dinner and will eat up the last of my steak and a bit of rice I added to it for lunch. Need to make some more sugar free jello as it seemed to solve my sweet tooth. OR I have some SF jello pudding I can make. With a dollop of cool whip I am there.

Organizing my office a bit more today and have a pile of filing to do UGH. But time to do it and get it off my to-do list.

RAIN RAIN and more RAIN coming this week. We are predicted to get several inches but we shall see. I am very excited for the rain after our super long dry spell. I wont be out dancing in it, but I will be watching it come down. I promised not to complain about the rain this year as I have in many years past as it is so needed. As long as I dont float away I'm good.

I'm glad for all your rain and hoping it stays dry here until I'm gone now. After our terribly dry spring, early summer, we've had enough rain. And I'd prefer not to drive in it leaving. That said, we gotten to 56 today and could possibly reach 60, after a very cold low 20's this morning.

I have a load of clothes washing. Should have stripped the bed, too, but didn't. I still have no clue when our employee meal is but my cole slaw is ready.

Time to go move things to the dryer.

Martha, when I was young, we had a male Siamese cat who liked to be out all night or several days and getting into fights. Well, he was gone for about 3 days one time and when he finally came home late one night, he was one VERY sick cat! He had a UTI and was just screaming in pain all night. My mom finally brought him in to the vet first thing in the morning and he died there. If he had come home a day earlier, we could have saved him. He was my cat and I was devastated! I hate thinking about how much he suffered before he died. UTI's in male cats is common but can be deadly. Glad you got Mr P taken care of in time!

No rain in the forecast here. Too far south I guess for the Pineapple Express. It was only 46* this morning when I got up! I left the slider to the porch open all night and it was pretty chilly in the house by morning! It was 84* when I left work this afternoon, tho.

I got a text message from another lady in the park looking for a haircut. Looks like I will be busy this summer!

The current owner (husband) of the shop was in today and asked why I was working so early. I told him I was working full time now. Apparently his wife hadn't told him that she let me go full-time! The new owners who are buying the business soon, came in today as well, 4 or 5 of them. I lost count after two really good-looking guys walked in! Was hard to concentrate on my work with them walking thru the place for the next hour or so!

The day goes pretty fast. We take a 10 minute break at 10am, then half hour lunch at noon. Then at 1pm, my friend Mendy comes in for her shift so we chat for a bit, then at 3:15 I start cleaning up and get ready to leave by 3:30. So not as bad as I thought it would be.

The lady down the street who took Lily, the white Maine Coon in, has 3 kittens and their parents coming each night now for food. Last night she had a couple extra adult cats but one kitten was missing. She wants me to catch the kittens to have them fixed (TNR). That could be difficult to get them at the same time. I want to stop over there tonight and see them for myself to see how big they are and how skittish.

Sheila, I hope your brother is willing to take your mom in so you can get down to Q soon! Anyone else planning to go to Q this year?

We ate at 6, and yes, I over ate. The couple who planned this, the husband was making the meat. He smoked prime rib, bbq ribs and brisket! I'm the oddball who doesn't care about prime rib, but between the BBQ ribs and brisket and all the sides I can barely move. Then he loaded up a plate of the ribs and brisket for me to bring home. I'll be a good girl and get at least 2 meals from that.

Barbie, I laughed out loud realizing the husband/owner didn't know you were on full-time. Hopefully because you're already full-time, the new owners will respect that and keep you on those hours.

PT and other's sure want us to get our act together as to the options for mom... we need to do that... the OT today was recommending that we have a bed side commode even if she is able to move about when asked why she said that it would help conserve her energy.. and it would make it so that she isn't trying to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night...
it makes me wonder if they wonder if she will be back to what she was prior to her fall... at that time she freely roamed and yes she fell because of that wandering...hind site is 20-20 right?? had we put in motion lights so she had light when she roamed.... she wouldn't have fallen but didn't think of it till much later either that or put in night lights... the hall and bathroom have night lights but none of the other rooms... she still is in a lot of pain... to my knowledge she didn't have PT today and OT didn't do what they should have as she felt mom was in too much pain... she is ok when she is laying their but when she has to get up and do something she is vocal ouch ouch ouch and I have no doubt it hurts but truly if she is to get better they need to do their part as well it's really hard... hard to watch her hurt but hard to see her not progress.
given everything I still think she would be better off at my brother's but I also think he needs to have some relief as well even though they are at home with my niece there are times they need to take her to SLC and as the same time some times just having other's to be there are a help as well... I do know that if I do end up staying here due to that is determined that is best then I am going to need to have some time off I haven't been able to see my grandkids hardly at all this summer... guess we will see I do know that mom going into a care center... isn't a good option I think it wouldn't be too ling before she would starve herself as she has really not much desire to eat although she ate more tonight than I've seen her in awhile...
I had to laugh Barbie at your statement going to be busy cutting hair this "summer" I do that all the time switch summer for winter...
I don't know why pot lucks do that cause a person to over eat but I do it all the time it just looks so good... and one has HAS to try it all
I saw another person post biscuits on FB looked so good and I thought then that sounds so yummy then Martha comes up with it... today was the last of the veggy/beef soup glad it's gone but I may have to make me some biscuits... they do sound yummy
so glad rains have come to the west coast or a least part of it... and hopefully they will continue... I've heard of the pineapple express we have one up here in the Northern part of the western states that right now can't remember comes out of AK and brings snow... and cold I think some express though
well you all have a great day

Beth, I believe you are right about her giving me full-time hours before the new owners take over. A lot of these cannabis companies only want full-timer workers and maybe the new owners mentioned they want to do that too. This way I would be kind of "grandfathered in".

Sheila, I always accidentally call the winter season "summer" because the weather is getting nicer and there is a lot more activity and people this time of year, so I get confused!

I finished my Halloween gourd tonight (ghost on top of a pumpkin)...

"All that rain" here, has amounted to 0.15 inches, yes only 15 hundreths of an inch. So far storms have mostly missed us!
I woke with extra eye discomfort today, not relieved by my morning artificial tears. Started my painting class, and by 20 min in, I realized what was happening-first full blown opthamalmic migraine in years! It was fun trying to find number for dentist to cancel my appointment for chek up today, but they were very understanding and certainly didn't want me driving with messed up vision. Visual stuff eased in hour or two, leaving me tired, mild headache and very queasy . So spent day resting. Finally ate around 3 and again at 6:30. Feel better now. It's been so long since I had a full blown Opthalmic Migraine that it took me a bit to figure it out. No I don't have medicine because it's years between. But, as luck would have it, tomorrow is my annual eye exam, so will be discussing and make sure she gets a good look at my retinas and checks corneas for new scarring (SK surgery for scars was a year ago.)
Hopefully rest of week goes better.
I think the fact that right away I took extra magnesium helped make this a shorter fight.

Sorry to hear about your eye problems, Velda. It sounds pretty dreadful, hope your doctor can figure out how to prevent, or at least moderate, them.

Something in the rain department is certainly better than nothing; I am reading that the arrival of this weather system was a bit delayed, and that the best (LOL - or worst) of it is yet to come - maybe Sunday or Monday.

One can but hope.

Not too much rain here at my house, either, although this morning is dark with overcast, with a (very) light drizzle coming down. Which causes the yard around my back door to turn to mud, and so the ritual of cleaning muddy dog feet at the back door begins it's annual commencement!

Hey, Shirl, what's on today's menu? :D

Stay safe, everyone.
