Foggy Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Foggy Tuesday

Postby PeggyinCT » Tue Oct 12, 2021 7:53 am

Good morning Everybody. Hartford is covered in ground fog this morning. This rarely happens. Kind of eerie.

Tina, thank you for your vote of confidence that I know what I’m doing; although that is questionable. My vehicles are staying home, but I am flying to Denver and meeting up with an RV friend and we are driving to Mexico. We are keeping an eye on border crossings, and plan to cross at Nogales in Arizona. Our friends crossed last week without a problem. The border closing is on the US side. Mexico allows people to cross into Sonora. Hope that remains true.
Thank you Lyn, Sue and Birdie for your concern, but I think we will be okay. Here’s hoping anyway. Enjoy today. Peggy

Morning Peggy! I don't think you'll have any problems. Carol and Bill went last winter into mainland and will again this year. I've not heard of any problems crossing as you're intending. I know I'll be simply crossing into Progreso to see my dentist this winter. And Escapees has a group trip to Baja this winter.

I'm not seeing any snow! That's the only thing that I've been looking forward to with this cold spell. They are still saying we'll get it. So I'm not venturing outside yet. Meantime I'm bundled under two quilts (Ty hasn't yet ventured out from under the covers either, not even when I got up to check things out.) I have turned the heat up so it'll be better when I get up again (52 was simply too cold to want to stay up).

Good morning to all. Very cold morning here in Vegas for middle of October. Only 40 degrees out and there is five inches of snow on the mountain and still snowing! Lots of wind with gusts up to 69 yesterday. No problems around where we live but lots of trash blowing around and noise from the wind.
Poor Bill is freezing, he gets so cold he cannot function.
We are waiting to hear from RV dealer, hopefully we will get the RV back tomorrow as we hope to leave here on Saturday or Sunday to start our yearly trip to Mexico. Can only do a few more things to get ready without the RV. There is no problem crossing the border at Nogales - it has never been closed in either direction.
Really looking forward to get out of the house and see some different scenery.
We haven't been in Kino in years, really liked it there but now with the bypass of Hermosillo we don't go there. Peggy do you ever go down to San Carlos? We'll be stopping there for a few days. There is supposed to be a good road now from Kino to the 15 to San Carlos.

Morning Peggy and all. I’m sure you will find someplace to cross over. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Those of us who are or were RVers are independent, innovative and resourceful and just a bit crazy  or we we have never had the courage to tackle the RV lifestyle to begin with. We’ve all heard from those women who have said “you are so brave, doing this by yourself” comments of one form or another.

Not much doing around here. Just resting and icing the ol’ foot. Saw my Chiropractor yesterday and she studied the situation, then suggested that since they can’t do ex-rays of the foot etc., that I go over to the hospital Emergency room and have them do it. That turned into a boring 5 hour sit around in an uncomfortable wheelchair, get taken care of, get ex-rays and wait for results etc. before we finally got out of there. Not blaming the system, They we’re busy and the staff was wonderful. In the end, they ex-rays didn’t show anything of significance, but I do have a heel spur, which is causing the swelling. So doc said to rest it, elevate, ice and compression. Said I could follow up with my primary physician, whom is unavailable right now due to hip replacement surgery herself, and It’s not really necessary. Other option is to schedule appt. with Orthopedic doc in a couple weeks or so. Said if the swelling goes down and I have no further issues, then just wait and see what happens. So I will. Put in a call to my Chiro to let her know the outcome. They are going to have her call me later. Need to keep her abreast as I see her every six weeks.

Neighbor are bringing in my mail, provided dinner a couple nights, just brought over some fresh made sloppy joes and even took my dogs for a walk yesterday. I’m blessed.

So will just rest and occasionally get up, doa couple little things and back to the chair. I have an appt. on Friday at Title Company to close on my lot, so want to be able to drive myself up there. My yard is buried in leaves and pine needles, but not going to worry about that. Thry wiil be there for whenever I’m ready. It’s going to be a sort of on off rain shower type week, so wouldn’t be able to do them anyway. Guess maybe it was a blessing in disguise I decided to sell my trailer, because there is no way I could have messed with getting that thing winterized and covered, much less even take it to someplace to get winterized.

Beth, looks like you are having our fall out there as is Karen. We haven’t had a frost yet, let alone a had freeze. I guess by the weekend and next week, we are heading back to normal.

Neighbor popping in made me lose my train of thought, So going to wish you all a nice safe day out there. I’m off to enjoy a sloppy Joe :D

Good Morning, It is sunny and pleasant but the weather man says it isn't going to last through the week. We have been lucky so far.
I put my name on a waiting list with a Havanese breeder in Lake Placid, FL soon after we lost Mitzi and the puppies arrived Sunday night. I picked out a little girl that is black, with tan and white markings. It is really hard to tell when they are only a few hours old what they will look like. I was third in line to choose and had to do it rather quickly as others were waiting to choose between 7, all females! My problem now is getting her from FL to Southern Illinois in mid- December. I can hire a Flight Nanny but if anyone is coming this way and would like a tiny passenger I would gladly generously compensate. I go between being really anxious to get her and wondering if I have lost my mind!!
Toby and Emma started barking intermittently this morning and I couldn't get them to stop. Finally I walked toward the bedrooms and I heard a beeping sound. The battery in the carbon monoxide detector was chirping. Thankfully I had extra batteries so the barking stopped, but I noticed Emma was really upset and panting hard. So they had to wait for their breakfast until she settled down. I wish they had heard the people who broke into our cars last week!! Not a peep from either one and they must have been in the driveway a long time as well as they went through everything.

Carol I hope they have your RV ready so you can leave this weekend! Forty degrees must feel really cold after all the heat of the summer.

Sue I hope your foot heals soon. Good neighbors are a blessing for sure!! I don't think I would have made it through the winter without mine.

The storm last night didn't produce anything other than a minute or two of rain here  . Sunny and still very windy this morning. Nice breeze flowing thru my bedroom now! It got chilly over night and I had to close the windows for a bit. Loving it tho!

I am still working on my sloppy joes! I made a lot of it this time.

Am looking forward to going back to work, after such a long, busy, tiring weekend!! Am hoping the garbage man shows up before I leave so I can empty out all the trash/junk that is still in my car. That tension rod I am using to hold up the lid of the dumpster now, is really a great tool! Makes dumping my garbage SO much easier now! I just keep it in my car so it is handy for when I need it.

Sue, I hope your foot heals quickly! You must be getting frustrated not being able to get around very well and work on all your projects and walk the dogs!

Peggy, I am sure you will have no problem getting into Mexico and will have a wonderful winter there!

Carol, I hope you get the RV back and can get on the road next weekend!

BJ, I am sure you are excited to get your little puppy! How big will she get?

Beth, seeing a little snow is fun as long as it doesn't stick around! I prefer to just see it on the mountains off in the distance! Hope you get some before you leave.

Have a good day! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

This is a picture of Andy our first Havanese. He weighed around 20 pounds. He was a bit larger, some are around 10 pounds and not as tall. He was the sweetest dog and we of course miss him still.

BJ, congratulations on your new best friend. I don't think you have lost your mind - in fact, I find it. . . how shall I say it?. . . "soothing" that you ladies on here have the courage to bring a new pup (a new pup of whatever age) into your lives during our "Golden Years".

My sweet Joe is beginning to brush up against his own "senior years", as much as I might try to deny it. My time with him has gone by so amazingly fast I can hardly credit it (Joe came to me when he had just turned three). I don't know what the future might bring. . . he has been the perfect dog for me in more ways than I can count.

Thank you, Joe, for just being you, and thank you, Zane, for gifting him to me.

I don't know how I would have made it this far without my sweet Joe.

Good afternoon. Not too much going on around here today. Been cleaning and reorganizing some things in my office (aka junk room) and getting rid of the junk I somehow seem to collect. Need to make a run to the dumpster and get rid of my cardboard, lordy dont know how I accumulate so much. And the block foam is a bugger. Been searching for low calorie recipes for one LOL Found a few that sound interesting so we shall see. I like trying new things as long as they dont have weird ingredients I never heard of included.

BJ I am so excited for you. I know how excited I was to get Emma. I had never had a puppy before and yes, it was alot of work, or non-work as I spent most of my time keeping an eye on her and didn't get much else done LOL Potty training was the hardest but once she got it she has been excellent in that department. She will be 5 this January, where has the time gone, seems it has passed so fast. I had to google Havanese as I had heard of them but couldn't picture them. So cute for sure. Hey I also had to google Tibetan Spaniel before as Laura had one so I had to check it out, I had never heard of them but they are super rare here in the USA.

Carol you should get Bill an electric throw to cover up with, saves me from turning the heat up and I remain toasty while NOT in bed ha ha Beth is wishing for snow, YIKES not me ha ha
Barbie you got lots done it sounds like, you need to go to work to rest now.

Sue glad you didn't have anything major going on with your foot but I can just imagine how antsy you are for it to heal. Sounds like it might be a bit of a slow process tho. I know you will follow up with the ortho doc if it doesnt get any better but fingers crossed it gets better each day.

I am off to continue my research on low cal meals ha ha everything I like is full of calories.

Worn out after driving 271 miles today! First 20 miles was taking my old mattress to the county dump and finally getting rid of it, then drove towards Atlanta and on I-85 south to where it caught up with I-75. As usual, a ton of traffic through Atlanta. Made it to Reed Bingham SP just north of Valdosta, and was glad to get here. The first 100 miles was definitely a white-knuckle drive.

Except, of course, for the huge political banners two groups had strung on their RVs. These were not little window signs or bumper stickers, but I am guessing they were 5' by 8' banners. (It was like someone bringing a billboard camping!) And, it is more than a year to the midterm elections and three years to the next presidential elections! It is going to be a tough next two elections, and I think this is really not appropriate for a state or federal campground. Can't we even camp without being so political???? At least there were no Confederate flags or posters about COVID being a hoax. I left a commercial campground early in April 2020 because of such things and because no one was wearing masks and all were socializing freely. Pool was packed with kids and adults. I was afraid to go outside!

Sue, I did get a funny compliment about a month ago. I was backing into a camp site, and there was an older man on the phone across the street, along with his wife. As I got out of my motorhome, he yelled over that he was just talking to his friend and told him that an old lady had just backed in, and she really seemed to know what she was doing! At this point, his wife chided him about calling me an old lady, but I said it was OK. Guess I don't mind being called an old lady "who really knows what she is doing"!!

I read postings earlier and stopped for the makings for sloppy joe's. Just had one and it tasted good. I get tired of the same old stuff, and hadn't had these in quite a while. Going to go to bed early. Tomorrow, am going to do some cleaning and sorting stuff under my dinette that I have been tossing there.

Good evening!

Barbie, your gecko story reminded me - one of the Salome parks had those big wooden spools used for wire in each site. I had a small resident lizard under mine. One day we moved the spool and, can't be sure that's when it happened, but the next time we saw the lizard, his tail was missing. Felt bad, but he was fine. I've always used ammonia to deter cats.

Beth, my daughter said she saw snow on the mountains in the west yesterday.

Got my car back and went to Safeway. Not sure what is going on - they've moved items around, more low stock than usual. Forgot, even after I told myself out loud, to grab a new mask before I went and I forgot the reusable bags now that plastic is no more. Kids just made my day by bringing a tote over with old family slides, remaining photo albums, etc. I always kept albums so there are several! I forgot about the one from my first trip to Alaska and the one with Hawaii and major league baseball tour.

Oh, Anita, what fun getting all those slides. And we got flurries today, but the red mountains got a little more. I was hoping for more here knowing it would be gone by now. It's just so pretty.

That said I just about froze my fingers waking Ty a bit ago. It'll be worse in the morning.

Ok everyone, I'm going to be needing to go to the store .. I now want sloppy joes. Lol. That said I saw a 2 ingredient microwavable recipe for a slice of bread. Followed it exactly the first time and wasn't good. Blamed it on operator error although I still don't know what I could have done wrong. I decided to try it again today and it came out quite good considering I had to cook it about twice as long as called for. I'm guessing that was the problem I throw out most of any loaves I buy, so this, while not what I'd prefer, is preferable to throwing it out.

BJ I am not sure I could do a puppy but then I'm not sure I've every had a puppy...we had a cocker spangle but she was older when she came home with us various other out door dogs as a kid but no real attachment other than to Sandy the cocker but then she got ran over when we were kids so may have distanced myself from dogs... as I truly don't recall having a dog till later when the kids wanted one then when I got Shadow and most of them were not puppys oh come to think of it Pepper was and she had pups but again outside has my husband simply didn't allow pets inside the house turned a blind eye occasionally but he just never did like dogs or cats ... had a dog that got rabies and had to be put down he sorta thinks that is why he just didn't want pets...
dd called and asked if I was home said yes she said she would be over in a few so guess I have company for the evening then I had my niece come and get some fruit salad and cake so now I won't toss as much away oops I think she forgot the mushrooms hope not ... was going to put some in the soup but dgd doesn't like mushroom's I guess... so they didn't get put in
Sue hope you foot heals soon... have had a bone spur but don't remember swelling with it but the heel part sure hurt...
Judy enjoy the next part of your travels
Carol and Peggy have fun in the warmth of the south of the border this winter.... wish I had my electric throw  it's so cozy but can't have it when on generator... from what I understand but I could enjoy it here
I was so distracted with company that I don't recall the others sorry
mom is way low on sodium but think that is chronic for her and her potassium was high... she can't get a break so they gave her a bag of saline was going when I left
think I need something to drink come to think of it... so easy not to think to drink water...
you all have a great day
