Afternoon All, sunny and a little warmer today. No news on the shore. Saw a recipe for apple pancakes so tried my version using Bisquick. Added sugar, cinnamon and chopped apple, fried a couple pieces of sausage and it is a keeper. Fried up 6 more pancakes and will freeze for another time. Guess I will have to wash the car two times a week. Karen, let’s us know your opinion of the potato soup. Sorry my posts are about food but I have no life. Vegetable beef soup in the crockpot today. Be safe

After an adventure with a malfunctioning smoke alarm last night (new battery wasn't helping), I was doubting my "rabbits" of Thursday night! But son researched and we tried different things and finally grabbed a new one from the spares I had. It worked! I was not looking forward to trying to sleep with a fault code chirping all night! We did get a quiet night, finally. Thank goodness I didn't give away those extras as I planned!
We are heading up hill about 20 miles to historic Auburn cemetery this afternoon. They are having a living history tour with costumed actors at various graves telling "their" particular story in area history. Its free admission and I like free! Should be fun.

Rainy day here and I have several errands that must be done before tomorrows eye surgery. Not looking forward to either.
Know its not really that bad bu I feel like world revolving around constant eye drops. Oh well, it will be over in about another month.
Might try to check on Magic while out but I fear she will need a jump start and she looked so sad last time i went. Sure needs a bath and a trip somewhere

Still morning here and it is a foggy one but should burn off soon and then sun and 76. So for now I am actually lounging around. I had a London broil steak I took out to thaw so thought I better do something with it. Not my favorite cut of meat so this time I hammered it, sliced it, put it in the crockpot with onion, green pepper and beef stock, so we shall see. Last time I put it in the crockpot whole and it was tough as nails so if this doesnt work out it will be salmon patties for dinner. Shirl, making the soup tomorrow as it is supposed to rain so will fix the potato soup, a slice of Texas toast in the air fryer and will call it dinner. Will have a BLT for breakfast tomorrow and cook some extra bacon for the soup and of course I always have cheese. Might make some banana nut muffins this afternoon. I like to cook when it is cool out but if it warms up that wont happen then. Shirl you were ambitious making your pancakes. I buy mine frozen LOL zap them in the micro for a minute and they come out great. If I wasnt so lazy I would make up a batch and freeze my own but as cheap as they are this works just dandy. Posts about food are always OKAY with me.

Velda, smoke alarms always seem to start something at night and usually when you're trying to sleep. My house came with them hard wired to the electric system and there was always something going on with them. I finally changed them all to battery. I couldn't believe how much they have gone up the last time I bought one. I think I'm getting my sister one with the carbon monoxide detector too for Christmas. Every time there is a storm and they lose power they run a generator. Knowing that bunch I would probably have to install it too.

Shirl, your pancakes sound good. Food is about all I have to talk about. I had a crawfish pie for lunch. The specialty meat market makes the best ones around. They are like crawfish étouffée in a puff pastry envelope. They are frozen and you bake them. Years ago there was a lady in town that sold crawfish pies from her home. Every time we were going to a horse show in Texas we got requests for us to bring crawfish pies. The lady passed away and her daughter made them for a while. Now a niece is making them and you can buy them in the grocery store. I don't think the niece got the real recipe because her's are not good.

We had a couple of days of cooler weather but it's back into the 90's. At least it's not raining. I hate that it's already getting dark earlier.

Hi, the drops will be over before you know it; I have surgery on both eyes and, all-in-all, any small discomfort was well worth the spectacular outcome!

Sorry to hear about your Magic. My little Jayco, Hope, has been stored at an indoor facility since January of 2020 (thank goodness it's indoors! - laws here don't permit keeping a trailer at one's house). I haven't laid eyes on her in quite a while, if The Plague ever stops raging in my area (less than 50% of people here are fully vaccinated, and the local ICU is full) I would really like to go to pay her a visit.

A trip? [sigh]. Maybe next year. . .

Woke up and watched the church service online. Just had peanut butter toast for breakfast. Will be getting my laundry going and working on the kitchen soon.

I have a cool house/RV floor hack to share!

When I noticed Lola slipping on the floor when jumping up on the bed and eating at her dish, I decided to get some shelf liner to put down for more traction in those areas. I got some pretty liner (NOT the peel and stick kind) that is like a vinyl with texture. I cut the pieces and layed them down. They work great! Lola isn't slipping anymore! And they don't slide around when I walk on them and they lay flat. I decided I will get more and put some in the kitchen for me to walk/stand on, instead of a rug that is more expensive and much harder to clean. They are easy to remove and clean if needed. Then as I was thinking about this, this morning, I pulled out some other rubber shelf liner I have that has tiny holes in it and sticks well to surfaces. I put some of that down under the other shelf liner and it keeps it even more secured to the floor and also gives it a little more cushion.

This would also be good for dogs on wood or tile floors. Doesn't leave any residue and is easily moved/removed. They come in several designs and colors. I am including photos below.

Here is a good recipe for flank steak:

- Using a regular fork, poke a lot of holes in your flank steak.
- Make a marinade of cider vinegar, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, and a bit of oil. (Any amounts of each will do, but maybe a couple of tablespoons of vinegar, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and pol.) Marinate the flank steak for at least 5-6 hours.
- Take steak out of marinade, and lay flat on a broiling pan. Pour remainder of marinade onto the pan so it drips down into the bottom. Broil each side of steak for maybe 5-7 minutes. DO NOT OVERCOOK!
- When steak has shrunk a bit lengthwise, but is still very pink in the center, take the broiler pan out of the oven. Take a slice off the end. It should be very pink, almost red, but warm in the middle.
- Slice steak thinly (maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch slices) across the grain and on an angle. Put slices in a deep dish like a casserole, and pour over it the juices that remain in the broiler pan. The juices will still be warm or even hot, so it will keep the steak warm and even possibly cook it a bit more.
- Serve.

You can cook a flank steak on a barbecue grill, but you miss out of the juices and marinade from the bottom of the broiling pan that way, and that is what gives it a good flavor. If you slice it against the grain, it will end up being nicely tender.

If you must have meat well done, don't bother cooking a flank steak!

Actually, Judy, my families pepper steak recipe uses flank steak and it's well done by the time it's finished. Tasty and tender. That said while London broil is not always flank steak. It's confusing. Karen, I hope pounding it so much helps.

I am packed all except loading my clothes, my electronics, medications and the food that needs to go in the cooler... and of course the dogs. I am used to doing that sort of loading pretty quickly from heading out to dog shows. I will pick up a bag of ice in the morning. The Honda Fit is already connected up to the RoadTrek with the new Blue Ox and the lights work, so if it is raining in the morning that is already done. I even loaded the inflatable Sea Eagle and after rummaging around in my storage shed I finally found the electric air pump in the downstairs closet. You know the last place I put it. Lark also had me load one of her jumps in the back of the Honda so she might be able to practice being sent out over the jump from a distance.

The trick to all this is that the weather reports for this week, both here in Ohio and in northern TN, speak to rain. If I get enough breaks in the showers to get dog walks in it will be okay. If not we will get deal with being wet. My thoughts are this is an experiment. Though the RoadTrek has served my well at a dog shows and taken me to my son's and back, I have never just taken it camping. If the dogs and I can deal with the circumstances of predicted rain for a couple of days, and the RT handles towing the Honda Fit, taking off to farther afield destinations and camping and exploring in better weather will be quite doable. And if the weather gives us a few unexpected breaks, we will be ready to take advantage of them. Should be back Thursday evening unless we decide that the experiment is a failure and we book back faster.

I got most of the kitchen cleaned and got my laundry done as well.
I also decided to use some peel and stick contact paper on the panels of the cabinet doors and drawers in my bedroom. There is so much wood in there with the built-in dressers and upper and lower cabinets all around that I wanted to brighten it up a little. I had some beige marble designed contact paper so I cut some pieces and put them on the front panels of two upper cabinet doors. The background color matches the color on the walls perfectly! Looks really nice so I will do all the rest of them this week. I did that with the cabinets and drawers in the kitchen of my old house and it really turned out nice. Lots of great uses for contact paper! I am seeing more people on YouTube using it on their walls and counter tops now.

Got a text from a lady who lives in the park here wanting a haircut this week. I gave her a haircut last spring. Will go over on Tuesday morning.

I also texted Linda this morning. She is feeling better today and was able to get up and take a shower. Happy to hear that. She said it has been pretty scary!

My stomach is growling. Need to find food...

got my cup of hot chocolate just plain tonight but sure tastes good... I have some mint truffles ( if you like Mint and can find them somewhere in your travels the Utah Mint truffles are so good I just use a small truffle or a bit broke off the regular candy bar... melt while heating your milk and then add the cocoa mix... some times I enjoy Mexican hot choc as well... and sometimes.....

The last two sessions of Conference was on today so enjoy it while watching I did another dish cloth for the granddaughter that makes 6 so think I will do one more make it so she can change them out often
tonight I worked on my afghan got the first row of the pattern was off in my count about 3 stitches so got that fixed now to decide on the placement of the colors... think I will bring them out and work them into the row for a bit see what I like or not but it's that lavender that is so out of place the other colors are darker other than the heather grey but it's not the light color of grey either.... guess we will see
Shirl your pancake reminded me of some Abelskivers that I used to make would cook up the apples a little bit had cinnamon and bit of sugar I think it's been a lot of years since I've made them then put them into the Abelskivers and cook them was yummy...

I first heard of Abelskivers when I was up in Solvang, CA, north of Santa Barbara, a small touristy Danish town. I bought the Abelskiver pan to make some at home but never did.
