Last Tuesday of September

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Last Tuesday of September

Postby Colliemom » Tue Sep 28, 2021 7:33 am

Good Morning everyone. Another morning has begun here in Northern Michigan. A whole new day to get into whateverI want. And I have plenty to get into. The Forestry mulching project on my property was done yesterday afternoon and now I will go do some clean up out there and some leveling. I posted pictures in General Talk if you are interested. Have some really nice videos but can’t figure how to download them.

Gosh Beth, some tough decisions to make. I think Judy summed it up best. Going to boil down to what you feel is best for you. A job with good pay that means staying put in one place and hopefully financial stability for you and your future or moving on to new places. I’m a firm believer ring following gut instincts and also where my heart tells me I belong.

Tina, congrats on the wins. And it’s good to hear you making travel plans again. Shirl, enjoy your balcony days before colder weather arrives.
Fall color is advancing day by day here. In another week, there will be more change. I plan to head into the UP one day to see some color up there and then will be out riding arond here as ours progresses.

But for now, dishes are calling and I want to head outside and accomplish something today. Bit of light fog out there from the lake as water is warmer than the air. We are dropping temps about a degree a day and daylight about 3 minutes a day, so need to make hay while the sun shines, as the saying goes.

The paperwork for my lot is now in motion, so will be signing off on that before long. Neighbors are excited.

So, have a nice day and stay safe :) .

Morning Sue, weather is behaving but not sure for how long. Nothing happening on the island. The mushrooms on crusty bread was my big excitement for the week. Have a couple bags to deliver to the local charity shop “Our Daily Thread” too cute. County health department is offering Pfizer booster but I’m waiting for Moderna. Going to wait until November and hope my Tcells will protect me until then. Daughter took baby to work with her today. Not sure if it’s with the bosses approval but it wouldn’t be hard to hide him in her pocket. Having salmon cakes for dinner. Food Lion is $3 more than Walmart for a can of red salmon. It’s a toss up, use gas to drive further to Walmart or shop the local Foid Lion, decisions, decisions. Be safe

Shirl, we must have a psychic connection. The French Onion Soup Recipe you posted was one that I looked at yesterday. Last year I cooked some beef short ribs in kind of an onion soup and it was so good. Of course I didn't write it down and can't remember exactly how I made it. I'm going to try it again the next time I find some beef ribs that have some meat on them. The people that took over the local grocery store cut all the meat off the bones and I never see beef ribs at Walmart. Salmon cakes were one of the things my mother made often. I think my dad must have liked them. I probably make them about every 5 years. I use to make tuna salad often because Harold liked it. I would make things for him that I'm too lazy to make for myself.

Sue, you property looks nice. I would be tempted to add it to my mowing regiment. I'm so glad I mowed Sunday. It rained yesterday and this morning. When I put the Weather Channel on it was saying there was flash flooding in the area where my sister lives. I hope she doesn't need to go anywhere because her road floods when there is a big rain. I messed around and didn't go feed the cats. I made it out before the rain but got wet coming back.

Good Morning!

Waking to a jack hammer at 7:20 a.m. is not the way I like to start my morning! Someone must have goofed at the building across the way - first they tore up the parking lot and replaced it and now sidewalk!

Shirl, loved the antiquing video! There is a big mall here that I haven't been to yet - just love looking! Lyn, hoping the worst is over for you. Beth, you can't go wrong with whichever decision you make as far as location.

Not sure what will get done today. Hoping a shower and then a nap will get me going. Enjoy your day!

It is a warm afternoon here and I am ready for a nap as I did not sleep well last night. I am surprised that I don't have bruises on my shins this morning! Last night I tripped over a dog pad on the floor and hit both shins on a wooden chair. Thankfully I didn't fall all the way down!

Tina congratulations to you and Jane, Best of Breed!!!! Glad to see you feel well enough to be in the ring and traveling.

I just saw this on Facebook and it reminded me of the conversations about tents from the other day.

BJ, I end up with bruises everywhere and forget what I tripped on or knocked into. Totally understand. And I love that tent pic.

Anita, you know I'm not a morning person. I'd have been cussing that jack hammer!

I got interrupted by a phone call and don't remember what else I wanted to respond to. Thank you all who commented about my job situation. The phone call was the owner here with an offer I don't think I can refuse. Anita, I think it was you who said both places are awesome. They are. I think it's more peaceful here and I'm not sure the business of West Yellowstone wouldn't drive me nuts over the course of the summer. Rationalizing aren't I. I'm supposed to get the offer email here tonight and I'll make my final decision. I don't think I can turn down the money.

Beth, you got me at peaceful. In today’s world I don’t need any more contention, nasty, rude and crude. Life is too short so be kind to yourself. Of course I am older and becoming a hermit so no one to give advice. :)

Martha, you have other responsibilities so salmon cakes are not on your list of priorities. :)

Just getting ready for work.

Beth, I wish I had two good job offers to choose from right now! Glad you were able to make a good decision for yourself.

Slept late but that is because I was up reading until almost 2am. If I get this other job, I will need to be in bed by 10pm  That will be an adjustment for sure!

The sun is already behind the mountains now when I leave work. Will be driving home in the dark pretty soon. :(

The owner of the company came in yesterday and announced he has quit smoking pot. He found out how dangerous it is for your lungs! He has been smoking since he was a kid (he is probably in his 30's now). I wonder how he feels about making and selling pot products now that he made that decision? That would be a personal conflict of interest for me, I am sure.

If I get the offer for this other job, I think I will go to this owner and ask again if they will give me full-time hours or are willing to lose me. Not that I am a huge contributor or asset to them, but they like me, so will at least ask. I would prefer to stay if I can.

I better go eat my lunch and head out...

Have a good day! :D

Good afternoon all. Was busy this morning. Vacuumed and then Shampooed my bedroom rug. Then vacuumed the rest of the house. Need to when you have a hairy dog. Then swiffered my kitchen, dining, and both bathrooms. Raining outside again off and on, which I am happy about. This week no rain in sight and temps will increase to low 80's so should be able to do what I need to get done outside. Had some lunch and my old neighbor walked over for a visit. I think he only comes over to see Emma, LOL He brings a couple of "cookies" for her and she wont let him rest until she gets them.

Been playing around with Youtube TV and think I know how it works pretty much. I am on a 7 day free trial so trying to see if this is what I want and so far I think it is. Will save quite a bit of money by going the streaming route and I can cancel anytime if I want to change. I will save lots of money by not having Spectrum except for my internet. I have 200mbps so that is way more than enough to stream. You only need 45mbps to stream. I stream so much now but it is a learning curve to see how they do the dvr part but seems easy enough. I am testing that part out tonite.

Chicken tenders, yam and small salad for dinner tonight. Emma loves those LOL I made a quiche yesterday and shared with my neighbor. Had a piece for breakfast with some grapefruit and it was real good.

Beth glad to see you have so many offers. I get offers every dang day to go to work, "great contracts, sign up, bonuses, travel pay, housing"..........I am not even looking LOL Even the state board of Nursing said they would reinstate my license at no cost to me. Ummmm no thanks, I am happily retired.

Lyn glad you are doing much better. Anita I get up really early BUT I sure dont want to listen to jackhammers at that hour, disturbing my peace and quiet while I have my coffee.

Well I am done for the day, think I will go explore Youtube a bit more to make sure I know how to use it LOL especially before I cancel Spectrum.

Karen, I'm not at all surprised about your offers. Nurses are burning out, understandable so, at such high rates. One of my best friends from high school will turn 70 soon and is hanging on because of how shorthanded they are.

Barbie, maybe when presented with your having another offer, your current employers will recognize that they don't want to lose you.

I signed the offer letter a bit ago. I've always said the money is secondary, but the minute he quoted my salary, for a workamping position, my answer was yes. Karen, and the others that mentioned it, are so right about it's importance at this stage. And I was intending to work Amazon for 5 weeks after leaving here, but will contact them and the rv park I reserved and cancel both. I wasn't looking forward to that and knowing I'll have better money next summer means I'm foregoing it.

And that's my news. Oh, I doubt my current managers have been told, so I'll tell them Thursday when I work again. Hopefully things won't be strange.

Beth, are you sure you want to be the one to tell your managers? Maybe they should hear it from the owner.

It is very windy tonight! Lots of dust blowing around when I left work.

Lola has been doing really well with the canned food that I mix her Hemp oil in, until late last night! All of a sudden Lola started to get sick. Then I could smell diarrhea and checked the litter box. It was full! I covered it up with litter. Then I realized she had gotten it on her back foot so I washed her foot (THAT was fun! NOT!! :o ). I also discovered icky footprints across the kitchen floor and found her up on my bed! I took off the comforter and put on a clean one, and then washed the kitchen floor and part of the bedroom floor. Not what I want to deal with at any time, but really not at 1:30 in the morning!
I gave her some different food this morning and she got sick again during the day with another mess in the litter box. So I think I will not feed her that for several days until this clears up. Then will try it again. If it continues, I will stop it completely. She will not be happy! She loves the canned food and begs me for more all the time!

Last week I put textured vinyl contact paper (not the sticky stuff) on the bedroom floor at the side and end of my bed so Lola would have better traction jumping onto the bed. Also noticed one day that when she was eating from her bowl, that her back feet were sliding out sideways (doing the splits!) on the slippery floor, so I put the contact paper in front of her bowl. Now she doesn't slide on the floor anymore. I found a nice printed paper and it lays flat and stays put, I think I will get more to put in the kitchen since I sometimes slip on the floor too.

It is supposed to cool off pretty good tonight, so if the wind continues, I might open my bedroom windows when I go to bed.

Lyn, I hope you are still doing better!

Have a good night!

Barbie, I have been feeding the inside cats Iams Sensitive Digestion & Skin food for a while. They use to throw up all the time but now they seldom throw up or have diarrhea. I might give them a can of food but I divide one of the small cans between 3 cats so they don't get much of that. They just beg for it all the time. Hope Lola feels better.

well Beth I am sure going miss the thought of going to West to see you.... but I haven't strayed far this summer the midwest trip not counted.... my nieces daughter is getting married this Friday would love to go to it and make a trip to Wally world and a couple of other places plus take these afghan's to my grandson and his wife... but that will only happen if baby arrives as dd is on baby watch she is the one who will be taking care of her granddaughter when the parents go to the hospital so she doesn't want to stray far and coming to pick me up and bring me back is straying further than she wants... the issue is I am not positive that mom's car will survive the trip and I hate driving after dark and there is no way it can't be after dark that and I really dislike driving the pass especially after dark.... it never has been a favorite to drive my parent's being in an accident on the pass that my dad and sister died in didn't make me like it any better...so admittedly I do avoid it if at all possible... if the baby doesn't cooperate then dd will have a lot of shopping to do for me... it's time for the books and several other things but then getting it too me is also a problem as she doesn't want to stray that far
for peace I'm sure that you made the best decision West is extremely busy year round... winter they have snow mobiles and their drivers in town...
I would not be happy with the rude awaking either Anita
did laundry today and a trip to the grocery store my knees just really hurt not sure if it's the several trips up and down the stairs or weather changing know that it's cold tonight hot choc has even succeeded in getting my feet warm... need to go to bedroom soon
finished the afghan I was working on the great granddaughter's dolls ... used a skein of yarn from the next afghan I am going to make ended up with a strand of perhaps 10 inches  don't think it will be good for anything... hopefully I won't have to replace it I normally buy extra.. so banking on that
Glad you are feeling better Lyn
Maybe part of the problem with your kitty, Barbie is she is getting too much of the good stuff
you all have a great day

Barbie my friend that has 2 cats gives hers Forti Flora (a probiotic) fixes them up every time, so I got some for my former dog as the vet suggested and it also worked. Emma had an issue a couple of weeks ago (never has before) so I got her some from Amazon for dogs and gave it to her for a few days and it cleared up right away. You just sprinkle it on their food and amazingly they eat it LOL You might check it out.

Good morning, Beth. Congratulations on the multiple job offers. West Yellowstone - might - have been my choice, but when I was there the last week of May in 2018 (before the "season" really gets started), it was already a bit of a zoo - one can only imagine what "high season" there might be like.

I have never visited the area in Utah you are talking about, but, all things being equal, I would definitely choose peace over controlled chaos!

Hoping for you peaceful adventures for the rest of the year. Are you planning to spend any time at your Casita this winter?

Anne
