Sunday September 26th~ Johnny Appleseed Day

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunday September 26th~ Johnny Appleseed Day

Postby IrishIroamed » Sun Sep 26, 2021 8:45 am

Mornin' ladies~~~
Just a misc day today for Johnny. Should be an above average temperature day in the Chitown suburbs. I need to start cleaning out the bed of the truck and maybe brings more things into Dad's house since I'll be spending the winter here.

Dad was moved to a long term, skilled nursing center in Thursday. He hates it there, including the food, but it may be because he's on a 'mechanical' diet, which I'm not sure, but it may just mean that everything looks like mush and liquid have a thickening agent. He told me yesterday he wants to do something he likes, and what I asked him what, he said driving. He thought he drove himself there too, was probably hoping his car was there to plan an escape. Such a sad situation since he was driving and still doing yard work until he fell in June.

Not a whole lot else going on, I could start clearing his house, but I feel bad throwing out things, like old bills, magazines, etc. The oldest I've found so far was from 1972. Now I know where my sister got her 'save everything' attitude from.

Have a good day ladies. Enjoy autumn wherever you are.
Cheryl

Morning Cheryl and all. You are having above average temps snd we are below. Haven’t been out of the 50’s for past 2 or 3 days. Was nice yesterday but breee was chilly. Rained this morning and now sun is trying to take over. I’m sure it’s hard on your dad having to make all these sudden adjustments to his life. But he is at least where he can get the care he needs. You did all you could, which was a lot.

Just got back from church a bit ago and stopped for a pecan roll to bring home. That was lunch. Not a well balanced lunch though. Got to stop this sweet stuuff thing and get back to eating right. Been gaining weight and not happy about that.

Not sure what’s on rest of day’s agenda. Should go through the two totes of stuff from the camper and put it where I want it, probably pack some in one of the totes for now and put it in the basement, but I think most of the stuff up here will stay up stairs.

Ran out and got some pumpkins yesterday for my fall decorations. Then blew out a bunch of pine needles and leaves in the yard. Fella that did the clearing in part of my lot earlier this month, stopped by yesterday. Called him earlier this week about finishing off the rest of the property. We walked the job site, talked about a few things and he will be here tomorrow afternoon to do it. Clearing all the undergrowth and trees less than 6 inches out, as they can’t grow under the canopy of the bigger trees. Will leave any young pines alone. Clear out the dead stuff and Under growth that’s choking out stuff trying to come up. Will open up the forest and let in more light and let nature create some new growth. I’ll post some before and after pics.

So guess I will go through those totes and do some online ordering. Been saving things to my wish lists, so will get busy ordering them. Mostly new duds for me and new collar for Piper and leashes for both dogs as well as visibility vests to wear on these darker cloudy fall days when we are out walking. I bought a new Blaze Orange vest for me to wear this year. Time to replace the old one.

So, you all have a nice dsy out there :)

Afternoon All, Cheryl, I feel for you, it’s hard making those tough decisions. Since I am getting close to your dads age I feel for him too. Tell him your RV friend loves “tough ole guys”. Had lunch on the balcony in the lovely breathable air. Sun moved around and it became an oven. Watched another blog episode of the woman living in Scotland. Watched her make lunch, Crusty bread lathered with a soft cheese and topped with sautéed mushrooms. Oh! my, tried to sneak a bite but the IPad wouldn’t let me. So added those items to my shopping list. Bread isn’t my friend but neither is time so will enjoy. I’m claiming Sunday as an “eat free day”. :D Be safe

Everyone except me had fun at my birthday party. I spent all morning in urgent care! Woke up with shingles!!! Pain in my back awakened me at 3 AM. Daughter kept sending me pictures from the party while I was waiting to see doc.
Luckily ibuprofen helps relieve pain. Because it’s contagious I must avoid being around immune depressed and pregnant women.

Oh darn Lyn. That’s terrible and on the day of your “surprise party!” Had you not received the shingles vaccine? I hope you will have a weak version of shingles and will recover soon. Take care.

Oh no, Lyn! Did you ever get either the old shingles shot or the newer two-shot series? I had the older one, so when I got shingles in fall 2019, it was a shorter milder case. I hope yours is not so bad because some really hurt. My doctor gave me pain meds that did not help, but ice packs did help.

Guess your surprise birthday party was REALLY a surprise!

Remind me NOT to plan long drives in scenic places on Sunday, especially if it is sunny and pleasant! I started from the north end of the Blue Ridge Parkway this morning and it was packed with people out for the day. I had problems finding places to park in scenic rest areas because there were so many people around. Tomorrow being Monday should be better. Tonight I am in a no-hookup campground along the parkway.

I got back from my campout this afternoon. I wasn't sure I was going to make it at all. Wednesday I picked up my motorhome from the shop. Drove about 5 miles and stopped for gas and the engine wouldn't start. I carry an electric battery charger/starter so started the generator and go out an extension cord and got the engine started. When I got home I didn't have 12 volt power to the coach. Called the RV shop ant they told me to stop by on my way out and they would check it. I decided to get a new engine battery so stopped by Auto Zone on my way. The guy checked my Rv and couldn't find anything wrong. I get in and still no 12 volt power. I don't know what he was checking. He opened the battery tray and there was a loose connection to one of the coach batteries. That's why it would work and not work and they thought I was nuts. Hopefully I can make a few more trips before something else breaks.

Lyn, happy birthday and sorry you couldn't go to the party. I had a shingle shot quite a few years ago and keep thinking I should get the newer one or two.

Beth, it was good to see the picture of Carol. It has been a few years since I have seen her. Sorry to hear about her husband.

I ate something Friday that didn't agree with me and didn't feel well until this morning. I think I need to quit eating food at the pot lucks because that happens to me often. I don't normally eat a lot and then go to one of the pot lucks and eat too much.

When I got home I unloaded the food and dirty clothes and started mowing for 2 hours. It's suppose to start raining tomorrow.

Judy, I hope you enjoy the Blue Ridge Parkway more than I did. After a few of the pull outs I thought they all looked the same. I got tire of all the up and down and curves.

Lyn, that was not the surprise you wanted or deserved! Ouch! I have never had shingles or the shots. My brother had shingles once and said it was terribly painful. I guess I better look into getting the shots.

Lyn, get a bottle of Lysine capsules and start immediately. It's an amino acid which stops the shingles virus from replicating. I have used it and it helped shorten duration.i also used it for Mel until I could get him to Dr for antiviral medicine.our Dematology Dr said research said yes Lysine helps so keep him on it until rash heals. I have a bottle on hand always as I've had Shngles 3 times ( all before vaccine came out)! I now know early symptoms so past two times I caught it early, took Lysine, them got anti virals and together I was better quickly. It's hard to explain, but, early sign is an odd pain as if skin is burning but only in a defined area. Once you have had it, its unmistakable. Shingles is same virus as chicken pox and resides permanently in a dermatome (area) of nerve. Mine is right flank/upper thigh. I have not yet had vaccine, because no one has been able to prove whether it's of value to someone who has had shingles 3 times, or of ot could actually cause me an issue. Lysine is an important part of my first aid kit. Look it up : shingles and Lysine ! always see Dr but start Lysine while waiting for appointment.

I have never been a fan of pot lucks, and pretty much would only eat whatever it was that I had brought whenever I attended one. Not that I have gone to any pot lucks in a long time (I haven't) I wouldn't get near one now, during the pandemic.

LOL. But that's just me. I guess I have a low tolerance for risk.

Sheila, what is "visitage" and what is "GTNP"?

I am unfamiliar with these terms.

Thanks.

Anne, I assume GTNP is Grand Teton National Park and “visitage” is the number of visitors.
