Wednesday September 22

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Wednesday September 22

Morning All, weather still hot and humid. Had a good blowing rain from the south which soaked the balcony garden. Plants do love a nitrogen soak. Still tracking weather disturbances in the Atlantic. Friend Edith had in and out back surgery yesterday. Can’t believe she was sent home so quick but guess it’s because of Covid. Was told to lay flat until the cement dried. How scary is that? Taco salad for dinner tonight. That is my news but if anything happens exciting I will stop back. Be safe

Rainy Wednesday

Postby Othersharon » Wed Sep 22, 2021 8:54 am

Good morning! Rain started about 7 last night and so far mostly steady but light but the worst to come in tonight. Glad I managed to unload Lola and back in her parking spot out back. I just need to vacuum and clean her so I don’t have to do it next spring or at least not deep clean like I need to do now. But that can happen when the weather clears. I even managed to mow the backyard and took my recycling to the bins. So I had a busy day yesterday! The house is cool and the dampness may force me to turn on the house furnace. Plus I may try to get the air unit out of the window. The one in the landing of the stairs is heavy and it takes a lot of lifting and a couple of steps to get it put away. I swear it gets heavier every year! It would probably be Christmas before I might be able to get one of my kids to help me with it! Think I need a quick run to the store for a couple of things I let go since I would be gone for a few days. Made spaghetti last night so have leftover for dinner tonight. Thinking of making some soup since it seems to be that kind of weather! Now to decide what kind I want! Veggie or potato! Both sound good! Been enjoying the pics of the new homes you gals have. And Sandi, love your paintings. Can’t decide which ones I like the best! Such talent. Now I need to get moving and get myself ready to face the day! Have a safe day.

Spent most of Monday recovering from the weekend and then yesterday running errands. I finally got around to finding someone to put in the Replacement window in the RoadTrek. Apparently RTs are notorious for the bottom windows on either side in the back trying to fall out with little warning. The bottom window on the passenger side of my unit had been replaced (badly) with plexiglass by a previous owner. Months ago I ordered a replacement from Jack Woods who is famous on the RoadTrek groups for having solved the falling out window issue. Good things because normal glass replacement places just shook their heads and said they couldn't or wouldn't help. Anyway, when I finally thought to ask them, my trusty dependable auto repair shop that services all my vehicles took a look at the window and the repair kit and said "sure."

Later this afternoon I am heading off the the Trailer shop on the west side of Cincinnati, that out fitted my Honda Fit over ten years ago. I ordered a replacement for my Blue OX tow bar. After ten years I wouldn't trust my old one even if they tried to rehab it. That was one of the reasons I didn't try to sell it when I sold the Thor Vegas. I didn't even want to think about the liability, real or imagined, of someone else trusting it not to fail. Yes, I thought I might sell the Honda but it drives so nicely for trips around town. It can also carry the kayaks much easier than trying to stuff them in the RoadTrek with me. So though I don't think I will go around towing a car every time I head out to a dog show or camping trip, having the tow bar and my small car (think hauling trailer!) will give me options. I figure after driving around with the longer and larger Vegas and the Honda, downsizing to the RoadTrek and the Honda will still make it easier pulling into and out of gas stations and parking lots. I will adjust as needed.

Jane and I are scheduled to head off Friday for the dog shows in New Castle, PA. So today and tomorrow will also be filled with all the preparations for heading out. A load of laundry is being processed as I type. Without a working refrigerator in the rig my shopping will be minimal. One can live several days on peanut butter sandwiches when necessary. The dogs, however, will insist that I bring in the two bags of dog food in the back of the van so that they can get their groceries bagged up. As time goes by those 35 pound bags get left in the back of the van until absolutely necessary. I don't even try to save money purchasing the 50 pound bags. Yes, maybe I could possibly lift one but then not be able to do anything else for how long?

I would throw in my 2 cents regarding this season's gardening but those who know me have probably figured out that these days my gardening is in the same category as my experimenting with recipes and house keeping. I can at least keep my clothes clean and three dogs groomed. My circle of skills seem to becoming smaller. We are planning a Dremel the dogs' nails party this afternoon!

Karen, The recipe sounds so good. Do you think it could be frozen?

Edit: I found the recipe on line and it can be frozen. Oh! Boy!

Ooh! I love easy recipes! That sounds so good! Will have to try it (once it cools off here  )

Just found a job on CL for the same thing I am doing now but full-time. I called and am in the process of doing an on-line application.

Not much else new. Need to get caught up on regular housecleaning chores since I have been focusing so much on the living room and porch, etc lately. Dishes are starting to pile up...

Have a good day!

Tina, glad you are feeling well enough to be thinking about traveling and towing. I am usually riding around with 2 40 pound bags of cat food in the car. The feed store has it in 20 pound bags and that's what I should be getting. I have to use my garden cart to haul it around.

Last night the storm came through with wind and lightening. I had to sit with Sugar for 30 minutes with her pacing and panting. If I would let her, she would go outside in a storm and get under the porch. Silly dog. I got almost two inches of rain. I won't be mowing any time soon.

I called this morning and got a campsite for this weekend. I'm waiting for my son to come get me to go pick up the RV. I have a lot of packing to do because I took a lot out when I brought it to the shop. Got my grocery list going. The campout "theme" is tailgating so will have to think of some tailgate food. It's going to be a nice weekend with temperatures in the 50's at night. I might even have to run some heat.

Shirl, your friend's experience with medical system is scary. How can they do in and out back surgery? I haven't been to the doctor since December, 2017. I really need a check up but I'm afraid to be involved with them. I got my shots on Monday. I don't guess a doctor's office would be worse than Walmart.

Good Afternoon, It sunny and in the 60's here quite cool but pleasant. I don't know how you all are lifting those heavy bags, your bones must be in good shape. I buy dog food in small bags because even though I kept them sealed really well, my dogs would stop eating before they finished a 15 pound bag. The taste must change somewhat.

Tina sounds as though you are getting everything fixed like you want/need on your vehicles. Shirl can't image being sent home after that type of surgery!!

I had a call from a friend late yesterday afternoon and the minute I answered I knew something was wrong. She had cut her leg and was bleeding really bad and asked if I could take her to ER. She had put pressure on the cut and had stopped the bleeding but I grabbed a piddle pad just in case and headed out the door. She was really afraid of going to ER with all the Covid cases but she was lucky as they weren't very busy in that area. She was still there almost 3 hours! I dropped her off and told her to call when she was finished. The cut was an inch deep and took two layers of stitches to close it.

I got the results of the MRI I had on Monday yesterday morning and my right cerebellar artery makes contact with the trigeminal nerve. The MRI was sent by the radiology Pacs system to the neurosurgeon so he can also go over the entire scan. I was amazed at the technology, used to for CAT scans or MRI's you had to go pick up a copy and mail it yourself! Thank goodness when I called to request a copy be sent to the neurosurgeon they told me they could do it virtually. No one at either doctors offices had thought to mention that to me....So now I wait to see what the recommendation is!

Martha, I always want lab work once a year to head off potential problems. My doctor is spacing patients appointment so very few people in waiting room. I can contact him on line which I prefer because I don’t have to wear a bra. :)

BJ I bought the larger bag for Emma as that is all they had available at the time. Was the 14lb bag. So she doesn't eat much in a day so I got out my food saver and bagged it up myself into smaller bags ha ha Hope the neurosurgeon has a solution to your problem. I hate when we have problems. I never had any for about 50 years and then one by one they keep cropping up. I get lab work twice a year as I get my infusion every 6 months and they draw labs. I look at the results online in my health portal myself LOL So far blood work is good. I dont bother with a lipid panel because it doesn't matter I am never taking statins, way too many issues with them for me. I will take my chances. I eat a good diet, no BP issues. no heart disease so I am willing to risk it. My liver can just keep supplying me with cholesterol. Hope your friend recovers quickly from her injury.

Tina have fun at the dog show, go get more ribbons. I dont think we even have any dog shows out here that I know of. I know my breeder Christy Collins is cleaning up back east with her Tibetan spaniel Glitter, and several of the other dogs she handles and/or co-owns. I am happy for her. She also has a dog Scuba that is doing well in dock diving. I would love to see that event along with agility.

I have been busy exercising this morning......my Visa Platinum LOL Got my gutter extensions, some weed carpet, a Roku stick. I have decided to cut the cord to Spectrum if they wont lower my rate. I am on the special $44.99 rate for tv and $44.99 internet (for a year) also $20 for DVR service ($10) now, almost $20 for broadcast tv whatever that is, and in November (I will be living here a year then) my rate goes up from $140 to $206 that is ridiculous. So I am going to call and see if they will keep my rate as they are for some people supposedly online that I have read and if not, I am dumping the tv portion and will still have to pay $69.99 for internet but I dont mind that. I might not even bother and just cancel on Nov 1 After looking at the other options between Hulu Live and Youtube (both are $65 a month, I will go with Hulu. I want and need the local stations and their DVR is included. Youtube has way too many sports channels for me. I already pay for Hulu streaming and I wont have to pay that anymore as it is included. So I guess it is a no brainer what I am going to do. Heck I might even do it this week after I get my Roku sticks installed. I have 2 Samsung tv's and 2 Roku tv's and a Phillips basic older tv in the guest room so only have to buy 1 more Roku stick. Already have one for the guest bedroom the Roku express, but bought the better ones for the living room (my big tv) and one for the family room.
So, that is my gigantic news for today LOL

I got all the way to work only to find no cars in the parking lot, the door locked and no one answered when I rang the doorbell. Just then, my phone rang and it was my co-worker who had just left. She didn't know what was going on either. No one had contacted us about the shop being closed. I met up with her at Big Lots nearby and we were thinking that since business has been really slow lately that maybe they just shut down for good and didn't bother to tell any of us. I called the owner when I was in front of the shop and left a message on her voicemail. She called me back later and said the power was out to the building and she was sorry she didn't let us know (yeah after both of us just drove 1/2 an hour to get there for no reason  ). She did say they will pay us each a half day's work and we should be back to work tomorrow. So I picked up a couple little things at Big Lots and headed home.

I am going to start on a Halloween gourd soon! :D Also, picked up some nail polish to try a cool technique for Christmas ornaments.

So that is my exciting day. Now, to go clean something! Don't want to do anything outside since it is super hot today! 115*

I will definitely be trying that potato soup. That's one of my favorite soups. Thanks for the recipe.

My friend Tom and I met up with Barry (my bf from freshman year in high school) and his wife who also went to hs with us today and we had a great time. The cave we went to tour was a dud and I will never recommend anyone bother with, but we also went to Pink Coral Sand Dunes state park for a short time because it's do pretty. Then on to Zion National Park. Then to a late lunch/early dinner before we split up. It was a wonderful, fun day.

Barbie, I hope you hear from the place you're applying. It's frustrating that your current owners didn't make a point to call you. At least they are paying a partial day.

Karen, I'll never take statins either but i get the panel drawn annually because I am taking a natural remedy that is working just fine when I remember to take it lol

I buy a too heavy bag of dog food and it travels in an outside storage of the RV. I fill two small containers from it as necessary for in the rig. It lasts a long time because Ty gets a larger portion of dehydrated food that I love. I think I'll start ordering smaller bags of the dry dog food with the next order. It's stupid for me to continue picking up these big bags.

I really hate it when I think of something that I wanted to mention and by the time I get to the end it's lurking in my mind but I am not pulling it out... hopefully it will pop up or I might scroll down see if anything triggers a memory...
mom had her infusion today. only took around two hours not counting the time we waited in the waiting room...
while she was there I looked for her checkbook as well as before looked in her room no luck did find an envelope with money in it wonder what that is being saved for... per brothers suggestion I looked in a folder not there not in the basket that the paid bills go into and then for some reason picked up her check book and at the front was a page saying that this was the last book and needed to be reordered !! so glad that it was there!! was going to ask mom if that was the possibility but that showed her ... so tomorrow we will go to the bank see if they can do some counter checks for her ... don't know if they still do or not reminds me that I need to send in my order for checks don't use them all that much but do like to keep them on hand...
Tina what I was thinking of had to do with you... if you like mayo it might not hurt to get those packets of mayo don't have to be refrigerated but can mix it with tuna deli meats cause you can buy what you want for a sandwich just a thought
that soup sounds interesting one that I like to make is corn chowder like potato soup but heavy with corn and thick sometimes I add chicken to it as well
I used to buy Shadows food in the 8 lb bag more because of space I'd pour it into a glass container that I liked the looks of more than the bag... didn't take the whole bag but oh well... now I might make it into a not sure a terrarium or just keep it for dog food and when the time comes will all ready have one...
it's coming close the baby is due in 6 days do we think he will hit that date probably not but it is getting closer
not sure what we will end up doing for mom but guess we will come to some conclusion just need to communicate and that can be a chore...
you all have a great day

I rarely get more than a 7 lb bag of cat food. I have gotten the 14 lb but it is just too big. And kitty litter...the smallest container I can get, and then that is really heavy for me sometimes! Now I also feed Lola a spoonful of wet food twice a day to mix in the hemp oil I got for her for arthritis. She loves that! And begs for more all the time of course.

I saw on FB that Janice (forget her username on here) from SLC just got a new little dog. And it is absolutely adorable! Possibly a yorkie/pom mix (a "porkie"? :o  )

Beth, glad you had a great time with your friends. $40 for breakfast yesterday?? Yikes! A good breakfast buffet wouldn't even cost that much for two!
