Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Friday

Good morning. After another wet day off and on yesterday I think we’re going to have a rain free day! Maybe if it dries out I can mow today. Maybe! I had something strange happen yesterday late afternoon in the backyard….I went out on the porch and saw a good size hawk standing in a circle of pigeon feathers! Living in town and having a lot of pigeons around I’ve found feathers in the yard before but never expected a hawk maybe being the cause of it! Quite a surprise to say the least. He must have been there a couple of minutes with me not moving and then he flew away with , I assume the rest of his kill. At least it maybe solves the mystery of the other piles of feathers I’ve had in the past. Of course I didn’t have my phone so I couldn’t snap a picture! Not something I’d expect to see in the middle of town! Other than maybe mowing today I don’t have any other plans for the day. Still waiting for groomer to call me back about getting Rascal in for a bath and haircut! Maybe I’ll just run into her shop and set up something since she’s so close. One way to do it! Beth, hope you’re feeling better today. Have a good day and please be safe.

Hit the wrong button and lost my post! Thanks, Sharon. Everything seems fine today. My best guess is I ate something that didn't agree with me but I can't figure out what it might have been. Just glad it's passed.

Last I knew I only have one room to clean today. I'd love if the managers would text or call when they leave, but they haven't been lately. So I'll wait and go in later so I don't sit around waiting.

Morning All, a low humidity day so have balcony door and windows open. First time in months. I have a portable screen door hanging from a expansion rod thanks to Amazon. Easy to take down and screen wraps around the rod. Grocery pickup at Food Lion was a pleasant experience. Everything done quickly and packed carefully by an adult woman. Think that is Walmart’s problem, very young people and no one seems to be managing the procedure. Going to pot up fall plants, will be so much fun. :D Be safe

Glad you are feeling better Beth. Stomach issues are no fun.
What is with the birds lately!! I had strange bird action here yesterday too Sharon! I was sitting outside and crows started in screaming and they kept it up for over 15 minutes. I finally got up to see what was going on and they were in one of our really tall pine trees. I suspect the neighbors cat might have been annoying them.
Shirl, I'm glad you can sit outside and also have your windows open. A portable screen sounds like a good idea. I think many young people were never made to do chores at home and need training and supervision when they have to actually work. We just got back from grocery shopping and the young man stuffed it all in one paper bag. My DH asked him to double bag it and he looked puzzled. We didn't bother to tell him the single bag would split with all the weight.
The weather is beautiful again here but forecast is for a warm up. Shouldn't be too bad unless the humidity comes back. The house is very quiet with only one dog, Emma is off to a dog show this weekend. I feel so sorry for Toby he still looks for Mitzi and now Emma will be gone for 4 days. Last night when it was time to go out he went to look for them to go with him.

WE HAD RAIN! A whole .02 (2/100ths) of an inch! Off and on from a bit after 8 last night! I know that sounds ridiculous to some of you, to call that rain, but, for us it's a very welcome start! Yes fires started from lightning, but the little bit of rain is helping keep them slow, until fire fighters can get to each. Sky turning blue now, and headed into 90° range, but probably 10 ° less than few days ago 106°. Thank goodness my friend washed her car yesterday! That's as good as a rain dance here!
I'm off to Curves, soon as I finish my pre-workout drink (electrolytes, no sugar). Then pick up few things at store and come home to treadmill and see what else I can get done. Cleared another shelf last night, but have one box from it to sort, toss, and consolidate what's left.
Just can't get over how nice it was to hear thunder, see lightning, then hear rain!
Have a good day!

Velda congrats on the rain. We are very dry here in east TX. They are saying rain next week. You know that is kind of like “free beer tomorrow“! I did make it here to the Alpaca Ranch last Thursday evening and friends left Fri morning. The temps earlier in the week were in the 90’s with higher humidity.

Alpaca Ranch still hasn’t a resident alpaca, a mule and some horses, and cows with babes, the normal cadre of cats and dogs, 1 young guinea and a plethora of ducks. It is enough to keep you busy feeding and cleaning.

Martha I hope to touch base with you going back if I go back on I-10. However, I may head up and go across I-20. I will send you a message. On my way here it was touch and go awaiting for Ida to plough through, the waters to go down, the roads to get cleared and then to make the decision on the upper road or the lower road. I changed my reservation 3 times for stopping in AL and then ended up canceling. RV park was flooded a bit. Lots of water damage in AL, MS and far east LA. Lots of all kinds of damage on I-12 which is north of NOLA. The area west of Baton Rouge to Lafayette had lots of water but not much visible damage from I-10, but then it was dark by that time. I don’t like to drive an RV after dark! But, I got caught and had to do it. I got caught in two rains in AL and MS for about 10 minutes each and it was really not much. But, in TX I hit a whale of a storm for about 45 minutes and it was a toad strangler on a two lane highway! Made you remember why they have signs that say WARNING Road may flood! No pull out places to wait for whatever for those miles, so just kept trucking! Then glorious sunshine. Can you tell it has been a while since I have been on the road?

Have fun and be safe!

I'll try to make this short--had clunking when I put my driver's side slide out after getting new awning and slide toppers. OK going back in, but after two incidents, I decided I had to go back to Decatur, IN, factory service where they installed toppers. So, Thursday, got my flu shot in morning, had dentist appt at 1 pm, and then called service manager and told him I was on my way there. Did not ask--TOLD him and expressed my "disappointment" at having to drive 240 miles each way to get something fixed that technicians should have checked before I left!! So, left Aurora at 2 pm and drove almost non-stop to get to factory service before dark.

Spent night in REV RV parking lot (has hookups and nearby dump station and water fill) and they fixed rod on slide topper mechanism that keeps topper from unfurling while driving. Ended up shortening it, and it works OK, but I checked out regular awning also. Done by 10:30 am, and I was achy and exhausted from lack of sleep, driving long day on Thursday, and having gotten flu vaccine, so came back to unit and went to bed for a two-hour nap!!

Also, on Wednesday, had several phone calls with people I bought mattress from, Bradd and Hall, and finally mattress manufacturer. Turns out that when they shipped me the wrong mattress in early August and then told me to refuse delivery, someone entered on software that order was "completed" so they did not make a new one for me and closed my account!! So, on Thursday, they made me a new mattress in a rush, and called me late afternoon to tell me it would be shipped today, Friday, via FedEx Ground! I said no way, that I had told them my deadline was Sept 10, and I was leaving Ohio on Sunday. After some discussion and research, I said they could ship it to Gettysburg to a Fedex location, and I would pick it up on Wednesday or Thursday. My big problem is going to be getting rid of old mattress and man-handling new and old mattresses in and out of motorhome, but I will manage somehow.

So, I still don't have a tracking number, but I got up from my nap, had something to eat, and am relaxing and watching TV. Going to spend night here at REV, drive tomorrow to Cleveland area and spend night along turnpike, and then visit with kids on Sunday. I will arrive at PA state park a day late, on Monday instead of Sunday, but will make it to Gettysburg on time, unless something else goes wrong!

Wow Judy! All that sucks! Nothing gets done right anymore. Companies have no pride in their work or ethics in their customer service.

Had a shorter day at work. Manager wanted to leave early and we had to go too since he locks the place up. Still don't know for sure about the full-time but he assures me it is "probably" going to be approved.

After slathering on the Miracle Balm from the lady at work, my shoulder felt pretty good today.

My plans for the weekend is cleaning and organizing the living room. Nothing else. But I need to get it done.

Dave will be by this weekend to get my propane tank filled. They want haircuts on Sunday as well (will have to fit that in between cleaning and organizing).

Temps are heading up but the humidity is supposed to go down so I am OK with that. Had some storms coming up from the Salton Sea this afternoon but they never made it this far. Just got some clouds.

I ordered some Hemp oil for cats, for Lola, that is supposed to help with arthritis and inflamation. She is also starting to lose some weight lately. She feels more boney when I pet her. She is acting fine but is definitely showing her age more now. She sleeps a lot now.

Spooky and the new friendly gray kitty are now friends. They hang out together. When the gray kitty comes over to me for petting, Spooky seems a little jealous and moves closer to us but then stops about 5 feet away and hisses at me. They both hang out by the gazebo now since there are 3 of us near there that feed them. I feel bad for them in the heat and humidity. They both just lay in the dirt and pant. I think I will bring a larger container to the gazebo with water in it. I have water on my patio and deck but since they hang out there, they would probably prefer having some closer.

Gonna get caught up on my e-mails now before bed and try to get to bed early.

This is Spooky hissing at me...

Didn't do much again. Got a little mowing in before I went to Lafayette. Visited with my two step-daughters and went to my Meetup at the pizza place. You sure can't tell that the economy is bad on a Friday night in Lafayette. The restaurants are full. The one we went to was in the downtown area. I don't really like to go there on a weekend night. There are a lot of people walking around so it's not too bad except I had to park 3 blocks away.

Judy, hope they got your repairs done right this time. Hope your mattress catches up with you. If I thought it would do any good I would call Fedex and complain. They keep leaving packages at the old house. I don't know why they can't tell that no one lives there. If I had a piece of plywood I would paint a sign for them. I have even had them not leave a package because they said there was no safe place to leave it.

Birdie, glad you made it through ahead of Ida. I feel very lucky. If it had come 100 mile West I don't know that I would have had a house left. I saw Carolyn and Michelle tonight at the Meetup. You might get some rain from the system they are watching in the gulf. Tonight they are saying Houston might get 11 inches. Of course that is going to change every day.

Barbie, that's how you tame the wild cats. They watch other cats getting petted. You can almost see them thinking that it might be nice if I got petted too.

have a church social tomorrow it's a long time tradition to show how long my dad started it... and he died in 73...it's going to be outside so feel ok about going...
I need to start taking notes so that I can remember some of the things I was going to comment on...
according to the phone app we are suppose to have rain a huge percent chance of rain at 11 had some thunder and a few drops of rain earlier....
Barbie I had to laugh when you said that the one kitten hisses at you that is the treatment I usually get from my youngest dd's cat...and she had known me most of her life from just a wee one (I always thought was taken from mom way to early... never got taught how to clean herself we had to bottle feed her) but she still hisses at me
Sharon I don't think it's overly unusual to have hawks in a town.... in SLC they have a skyscraper (such as they are in SLC) which is the home of some Perigan hawks...
I am glad Judy that you have your toppers fixed... so upsetting when you have to return to have work redone...
but glad that you have the mattress taken care of... I really need to get mine replace but haven't figure out the route that I wanted to go...
so glad Beth you are feeling better....
it was another didn't do much other than go to the grocery store...(I don't get why they fill the bags so full even though it's really good canvas bag it's still out and out heavy...) and then patiently wait in line a long line at MCD's for a ice cream yes for a cone...

Sheila!

I certainly do not understand the thinking process (or lack thereof) of those who bag groceries.

I received a nice grocery delivery from Walmart this morning - one of the bags had a single package of Cheetos (I know, I know - really bad for me - LOL) in it (so the bag and contents weighed about 9 ounces), one of the other bags (same size bag as the first) had fifteen cans of various items stuffed in it to the brim (so this bag and contents weighed about 15 pounds!!).

I see you like ice cream. Me too, but I have GOT to lay off the ice cream cones.

I discovered a Walmart brand of ice cream cones that are dipped in chocolate, and they are to die for. LOL. Since I don't wanna die, I need to quit these cones (Ha! - maybe).

I went about a year with no ice cream - finally, after being vaccinated, I ordered for Walmart delivery a 1/2 gallon of chocolate mint chip ice cream (my favorite flavor of ice cream - and to "celebrate" I ordered a premium brand). The delivery person who brought it was not masked, and when I brought the bag containing the ice cream into the house I was surprised to see that the lid was off the ice cream carton, and the ice cream itself was wide open to the air.

Even though I was pretty much dying for ice cream at this point, and had been looking forward - for days - for it to be delivered - after staring at it for a while, I decided to just toss it. Probably I am over-cautious (well, probably not "probably" ) but I decided it wasn't worth getting sick over a carton of ice cream, no matter how small the risk.

Walmart refunded me for it.

And so the pandemic continues to drag on. . .

I would have tossed the ice cream away as well and it is also one of my favorite flavors... lid off no way would I use it... have you seen those reports and admittedly don't know how true about people going through and licking ice cream guess to see if they like the flavor??? try to find one called Almond Pistachio

Yeah, I remember hearing about that, Sheila, now that you mention it. Ick.

But that wasn't what I was thinking about when I tossed the ice cream.

Most of the ice cream cartons here (I don't know how ice cream is sold in other places around the country, but here many brands are in kind of a squat, circular tube kind of thing) and the carton will have a bit of plastic around the edge of the lid, that you kind of have to rip off (hard to do, I usually need a scissors or a knife) when you want to get the lid off the ice cream the first time.

What caught my eye with the ice cream I tossed was that this plastic sealer was missing from the lid, it was no where to be seen. Without this plastic sealer there isn't much to hold the lid on.

Boy, did I ever want a big scoop of that ice cream!

I have been ordering these ice cream cone things now not only because I like the cone part, but also because about 8 cones come inside a sealed box, and inside the box each individual cone is sealed inside it's own little individual bag. So these cones are pretty safe from being licked on, or breathed on, or anything else.

I have to say that remembering the licking-the-ice-cream thing has now really put me off from ordering any tubs of ice cream.

Of course, now I am REALLY craving chocolate chip mint ice cream. The green kind, because it always tastes best.

Dang. :(

LOL. Shirl, I am very sure that your posts about your balcony garden are LOTS more interesting than my personal misadventures with ice cream.
