Sunday September 5

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunday September 5

Morning All, cool, cloudy and rain this afternoon. Less traffic yesterday so hope beach travelers are winding down. Found a treasure in the freezer, a piece of coconut cake that slid out of the bin. Think it was a year old but delicious. :) Hard lesson learned with gardening this summer. The humidity made it impossible for me to be outdoors. The raised bed was not watered and after the severe asthma attack the balcony plants weren’t watered either. All plants died. I have difficulty dealing with the limitations that comes with age, add COVID and I am really frustrated. Anyhow I need a reason to get out of bed in the morning so am going to plant a fall crop of lettuce and kale in the balcony containers. Ordered a plant cloth for frost from Amazon and will pick up seeds at Walmart on Tuesday. Going to organize the freezer today and maybe I will find another treasure. :) be safe

Don't feel too bad, Shirl. I tried to plant a bunch of herbs in pots on my patio. The basil plant was so healthy when I bought it. The oregano grew like a weed for awhile. But just about all the plants, both flowering things as well as herbs died. And I DID water them routinely! Even bought a beach sun tent to protect them from the searing So. Cal. sun and kept my table umbrellas up, but my attempts were depressing. Now all I have left is a rosemary and a chive. Can't believe them when they say full sun for 6 hrs or more! Not in this neck of the woods! Boy wouldn't I love to have some woods - this is desert here. Even partial sun is too much. I mourn the basil - it smelled so terrific and was so lush and healthy until I got ahold of it!

Going back up in the 100's here today again. We had a cool front of 90's for a few days!

Good morning from a very smoky Roseburg. Stinks out there, they said it was going to blow east but so far nope. Laura spent the night last night on her way back home from being down in Medford visiting her Mom and sister. Picked up some lumber that her sister removed from their deck, as they are building a new deck. Was so good to see her as she just stopped for a brief time on her way down, just a pit stop ha ha. She left for home this morning and said the traffic was light. Ran into an accident on the freeway but it was southbound so she didnt have much trouble. Much better drive today than tomorrow for sure.

I think this was just a terrible year for growing anything. I thought my tomatoes were small because they were in containers (large containers too) but even the people who ground planted them were complaining of the same issues. My squash did well. My geraniums not so much. Petunias and pansies were just so-so. Anyway I am getting ready to tear everything out, dump the dirt in the garden and wait until next year. I have plenty to do in the house this winter anyway.

I live in a mobile home and have VOG walls which vinyl over gypsum, kind of paneling but a pattern on it. So I my neighbor textured her VOG walls and it looks fantastic so have been looking at Youtube seeing just how to do it. Things to ponder LOL

Well time for a shower and then some lunch

Shirl, I was digging in a box of stuff that came out of the motorhome and found a box of cookies and candy. The candy is still good but haven't tried the cookies yet. Score! Doesn't take much to make us happy. When I was in college my roommate nicknamed me Eatabusanything. I found some fruit cake on my desk that had been there for several months and I ate it. You get pretty desperate when you are locked in a dorm. Back then the only place in town that would deliver was the donut place. I ate so many donuts I'm still sick of them.

The caladiums I planted are doing good. I need to bring them back up on the carport. The tub of catnip is doing good. Or is it weeds. I can't tell. Ever so often I will see a piece on the carport that someone has broken off but the cats don't mess with it.

I cooked my turkey thigh and heated some frozen dressing. I need to get all of that eaten or it will be Thanksgiving again.

Barbie, I can't believe a Vet would even consider traveling with cats in a travel trailer. I went for a short ride in a horse trailer one time and I don't know how the horses stand it. Maybe in a motorhome but 11 cats.

The guy from DiredTv finally showed up about 5:30 yesterday so I have my Weather Channel back. After he checked all the wires in the house and crawled under the house he found the problem at the dish. If he had started there it would have been a quick job. One of my receivers wasn't getting the local channels and he told me I had to call to get that fixed. He could have done it if he knew how. I called and had to go through all the things they want to try before I got transferred to the technical department. The guy walked me through fixing it on the TV.

I would like to go mow in Maurice but it's 97 degrees. There is a tropical depression in the Gulf with a 30% chance of developing so we are suppose to get a lot of rain. Oh joy, just what we need.

Good morning from the sunny 45th. For now anyway. Supposed to cloud up later. Had some nice cool weather this past week, with temps in low 70’s. Bit of rain yesterdsy, but nothing major. Was cool though, only upper 60’s. Nights were in the 40’s, bit low for this time of year. A reminder that fall is here and not many weeks left before winter arrives.

This week has flown by. Been Into to a lot of things. Raking and some clean up of my new “park” area as I call it next to my house. All done with that for this year. Found a perfect spot in there for a picnic table and even a fire pit, with a nice view of the neighborhood and a bit of the lagoon across the road, between my two neighbors houses. So went and got the picnic table I built a few years ago and left at my old house. Neighbors didn’t want it and haven’t used it. So it’s in my garage as it’s in need of some restoration. A fun project to work on eventually. Neighbors two doors over had a garage sale this weekend, so hauled out a bunch of stuff I had in boxes in basement to take to Goodwill and set it out at end of drive with Free sign. Got rid of 3/4 of it. Just a little bag full left to take to Goodwill. Sold a BBQ grill too. Neighbor who sold house and left this week, gave me two almost new large dog crates she didn’t want anymore. Said to donate or sell or whatever I want. Donating them to Animal shelter. Will deliver them next week. Mowed yard and POA property. Putting summer decorations away, putting fall ones out. Are you tired yet? Looks like a bit of a wet week coming up, so will clean inside. Needs it.

Aww Peggy, sorry your trip was cancelled again. Keeping my fingers crossed you will get there eventually. Glad to hear that those of you in the path of Ida are okay and no issues. What a mess. Martha, I don’t blame you for not going camping. I cancelled myself out last weekend for same reason. Now debating if I want to do one more trip this fall or call it quits. I’m enjoying being home so much especially with the yard improvements, that I am thinking of selling my trailer. Getting to where I don’t want to tow anymore. Like Karen, other things and interests doing and I can rent a place if I want a get away. But also considering maybe getting a van for camping when I want and maybe take a last trip around the country. Things to think about over the winter.

Right now, off to get cleaned up and start my day. We have a little festival going down here in Waters today. Craft show, little parade, bounce houses for the kids, bike giveaways, Cornhole tournament, etc. and a really nice Fireworks display tonight, weather permitting. Something fun for people to do on Labor Day weekend. There are a lot of people up north here this weekend. Where is big Hurrah for the summer. I am glad that I don’t have to go back in all of that traffic tomorrow.

So have a great Sunday everyone and please, keep safe.

ON Edit: I posted this originally this morning, but now I noticed that Shirl was one on here, I move mine over here. Don’t know how that happened because there was nothing started on Coffee when I posted mine. You must have been writing at same time Shirl, lol. And yes, I want to the Fextival, wandered the craft show, bought one thing, had lunch, talked with folks from Historical society who were there. Thty always have a display of times past inWaters and I know so many things from back when too. Need to join that group. Watched the little parade and then descend home. Fireworks later at dusk hopefully.

Good evening gals! :D

Woke up early but stayed in bed until after the church service at 10. Have had a headache today so not getting much done.

I looked at my checking account on line and saw that my storage unit fee was charged twice on there today. I called them but didn't get much help. I will have to wait until Tuesday to see if one was dropped or if I have to make some phone calls again.

Got a notice from our board of directors here that the cost of electricity is going up by 16% :o in this area, so our bill will be increasing along with our HOA dues at the end of the year. Oh joy

Sue, it is a good thing it rains up there once in a while so you can catch your breath from all your projects! You are a workhorse!

I am not sure what I will do about plants/flowers this fall. They are expensive and I just don't have much extra cash for stuff like that right now. They look nice but don't last long, especially in pots.

Have a good night!

I just got notice that a friend of mine going back to grammar school died of Covid yesterday after almost 3 weeks in ICU. She'll be missed. I hate to think that she never got the vaccine, but I don't know. I wish I could shake the people I know who haven't gotten the vaccine and even more that they won't wear masks. I argued with the motel managers here about this just yesterday (they won't get the vaccine and don't believe they should have to wear masks!)

Barbie, that's a big increase on electric. That'll hurt.

Sue, every week seems to fly by. It's just some days that seem never ending lol. I still can't believe it's September, and the first week of it is almost over!

Karen, I hope the smell has blown away.

my daughter and her son his wife and daughter came over for a early supper... so made that recipe that was posted the other day was really good...
Barbie I will post that recipe probably tomorrow getting late the biggest problem with that is it makes a big batch which I made I assume that it could be cut down but mind wasn't in the mood to figure out the size of pan to use so made it up and gave away lots of it
need to go to my room before I get caught up in this Murder She Wrote... don't need to stay up till midnight then go to bed and do all that I would normally do before going to bed plus dd brought over some stuff for me and it's on the bed needs to be put away... been wanting a cup of hot chocolate if in trailer I would get it but here my mom would question it even though she fixes herself a cup during the night most nights...
as to plants most of mine did well other than one geranium moved it when I was watering last night looked really bad and that free fuchsia I'm not sure about it and how it's doing will look when I water plants tomorrow and take care of the hummer feeder...
Sue Anne asked a question about something you posted something about news in Idaho out weighing the fire news ... she was wondering what news in Idaho I'm also curious as haven't heard anything on the local news (we get news out of Idaho Falls )
you all have a good night

We had a quiet Sunday, remembering Mel's passing 3 years ago today. Our neighborhood is putting up ribbons to honor tne 20 military, mostly Marines and Navy, who have died in past couple weeks. I got all my ribbon except the yellow, so at least got my Navy Blue and Gold up for our sailors. I did some painting, took a nap, watched Paralympics . That's about it.
New fire started up the hill from us, on the 80 side, under a huge bridge. I knew I has heard a lot more planes, so checked, and sure enough. 250 acres last report and no containment as of late news.
I was just chatting with someone in Boise, nothng said about her state. Nothing on news. So, now curious what Sue was referring to.
I used air fryer tonight to do some beer battered fish for Chris and plain for me, and we made fish tacos. I thought they were good and Chris said he was surprised how good they are, said lets do them again! Win!
