Refreshing Monday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Refreshing Monday

Postby Colliemom » Mon Aug 30, 2021 7:26 am

Morning from the 45th. After a warm and humid, occasionally stormy weekend, the cold front pushed through yesterday afternoon and pushed it all out. It’s now 60 degrees and sunny with a beautiful week of 70 degree weather in store. Great time to open up the house.we had a doozy of a fast moving severe storm come through here yesterday. Thunder, wind was at least 70 mph at one point, I would guess along with torrential rain. Trees were really swaying and I’m sure if it had lasted longer, I would have had one down. Just have some limbs and branches, which I already piled up and will be taking care of them today as well as raking up some other debris. Probably wash a couple windows as the rain and wind just plastered against my house.

Martha, glad to hear you seem to have missed the brunt of Ida.

Finally found a couple end tables online and got them ordered from Wayfair. Two new dog beds are on the way from Amazon. So those items are out of the way.

Beth, sounds like you are all set for jobs now. Was wondering g though about the Maine one. You said you would be doing that in 2023. Did you mean 2022 or is she holding it for 2 years for you?

Guess I should jump in the shower and get this day moving. Need to get tbe trash out and then get busy with yard cleanup. Have a nice day everyone.

I meant 2023. Next summer will be 2022 and West Yellowstone. So Maine, if this works out will be 2023.

I woke up early after a toss and turn kind of night. Today's my extra day off, so went back to bed and just woke up again a few minutes ago. Time to get my linens off my bed and greet my laundry done.

It's hard watching all the devastation, between Ida and all the fires, it's just overwhelming.

Good morning Sue & everyone!

Sue, I'm so glad the storm didn't do any damage and happy you're having the nice temperatures. Tina & Lyn, thanks for checking in! Martha, I was thrilled to hear New Orleans had so little damage, but there are lots of people without power. Hopefully that will be restored soon. BJ, when is your appointment to see your other doctor? MD could be hit with winds & rain tomorrow or Wednesday, and for the first time in my life, I can say I don't care.

It's hard to believe that tomorrow is the first day of September! My parents said that as we got older the time would go by fast, and they were right. So please check in tomorrow for the roll call!

We are in Townsend GA with a beautiful waterfront site. Today is a down day and tomorrow will be the last leg of our trip and I'm so excited to get to FL! We have lots of unpacking to do, including dishes, kitchen utensils, books, etc. We plan on doing a little each day until we're done. I want to buy a glass curio cabinet to store my collection of bells and other small things we chose to keep. If any of you will be passing through FL this winter, let's have a gtg. There is a nice campground only about a mile from us on the same road as our resort (this is a new campground and last season, offered 3 nights of free camping) and there are several other campgrounds within a few miles of us.

Enjoy the last day of the month!

Good Morning, Thankfully it has cooled off here!!! A week of temps in the 90's with high humidity was really hard on everyone.
Irmi I'm glad you are almost home and I know you are also anxious! You asked about my doctors appointment, it will be after my MRI. There is so much Covid here and since thankfully the pain has almost resolved, I rescheduled my MRI until Sept 20th. It will be sent to the neurosurgeon in St Louis to read and determine the next step.

I hope the weather and the smoke improves for all !!

Beth I know you are happy your work schedule is set for the next couple of years!

Sue, I'm glad you didn't have a lot of damage from the storm.

I need to go for dog food I am out of their favorite things!!

Irmi, you scared me! I have an appointment on the morning of the 31st and I thought I missed it this morning!! Whew! It is tomorrow morning!

Been another lazy weekend  . Just no energy or motivation even after drinking all my energy drinks! Spent a lot of time on line watching You Tube videos and reading e-books. Watched golf yesterday which ended up with a nail-biting 6 hole playoff at the end.

Looks breezy outside. After today, temps are supposed to come down closer to 100* so that will be better as long as the humidity doesn't go up. I think I am just getting cabin fever. They had some heavy rain storms up in the mountains just west of here, yesterday.

Martha, glad you dodged the Ida bullet!

Back to work in a bit. Have a good day!

So glad none of you were harmed by Ida. Yes, I double checked my calendar , September starts Wednesday, not tomorrow! LOL
Yesterday reached 106° here, sure hope prediction of cooling happens! Red flag warnings up and down state for wind and low humidity. Want to clarify for those not familiar with Tahoe. It's a very large lake. A lot of granite rock at some area edges. Northern Tahoe is California and Southern Tahoe is partially Nevada. The state line runs through the lake at a angle. So when one says Tahoe basin, you are describing a very large diverse area around a lake is 22 miles long and 17 miles wide with a varied economy and cities, but only 2 or in some places 4 lane highways, not freeways, in and out of the mountain basin which surrounds it all. . At moment, South Tahoe, including the highways leading west are now under mandatory evacuation/closure. So in excess of 30,000 people need to travel east on narrow highways, and either around the lake then to I-80 or up and over to Nevada and Reno/ Carson City area. It would be difficult for fire to surround the lake because of so much granite without vegetation in several areas, but all south of the lake is either burning or expected to be at high risk to burn in next few days with winds expected to be 25-30 sustained plus gusts to 50 or higher, with the wind pushing in a north east direction , right towards south Lake Tahoe edge. It's potentially going to be a very bad week in California because these winds will not only push existing fire but cause blowing embers to start spot fires as much as 2 miles ahead of the fire, which with narrow mountain roads could trap people both fire personnel and anyone stupid enough to ignore mandatory evacuation which is in an extensive area now. A friend who lives on my end, the west edge of where fire started, has been evacuated about 2 weeks now. Because the Sierras are a resort area, with retirees, regular families with jobs to support the tourist industry, and support the casinos on Nevada side, all evacuated, it's putting pressure on a lot of things from gas stations trying to keep up supply so people can get out, to food supplies that can not get there due to road closures and enough places affordable enough for people to stay for extended period of time. At moment it's not unusual to find long lines at gas stations here.
As for us, air is still smoky unhealthy levels, which might improve as winds come in. I'm heading to Curves shortly. Not a lot of plans for week. It's a particularly sensitive week as the anniversary of Mels death is Sunday . Being aware, I will be kind to me and journal a lot. Hope predictions of cooling into mid to low 90's holds true. Do a rain dance for CA please, and maybe the Democrat candidate to replace Governor is right, we need to build a pipeline for water from the Mississippi to California! Take your excess and relieve flooding by redistributing to where it's needed! ( yes I think it's a impossible dream, but it was interesting he brought it up,in debate).

I made it home and didn't see any damage in this area. My step-daughter lives in New Orleans and we can't get in touch with her. There is no power or cell service in New Orleans. I don't think there was flooding inside the levee. I heard there were people on roofs but don't know where. I know of two hospitals that were having major problems last night. None of the hospitals evacuated patients because there was no where to bring them. Sugar wouldn't get out of the car when we got home. I guess she enjoyed her vacation.

Now to reverse all we did before the storm. My shoulder is hurting so I need to quit picking up heavy things. I have my camping wagon but I can't put heavy things in it. I moved Henry, the ficus tree, and the other plants out of the old house. I hope all this isn't a rehearsal for something worse to come.

Irma, when you said it's the end of the month I thought it can't be but it almost is. Time really does fly by now. When you are over the hill, you pick up speed. lol

Guess I better get back to moving things. My living room floor is full of things I brought in to keep from blowing away.

Claudia (Wings) and her husband are out in the PNW traveling but their place is a suburb of NOLA and her family live around there....I know she doesn't post on here anymore but she does show up on FaceBook from time to time. Hoping her family and property make it through the storm and the waters.

After the last big windstorm we had a couple weeks ago, I found some old caulking strips on the driveway and am assuming they came from around my sky lights. I finally found a guy who can go up and recaulk them.

So now the sky here is full of constant lightning and thunder with monsoon rains coming! I sure hope the lights don't leak! I guess I will still enjoy the light show outside and hope we don't get much rain from it. Hate to say that since we need it so bad. Just don't need any leaks in my roof right now, either.

Have a good night!

PS, looks like the storm is crossing over the mountains before it gets here. We'll see...

reading Barbie mentioning that about her lights reminded me that I need to have the rear light checked on the truck although I haven't had it this summer been at mom's so drive her car...Called my grandson today (the last time I was in Idaho my truck was at the farm so it could haul rocks and then it came back and it hauled a car to Utah now it's back at the farm) anyway I didn't know it was still at the farm so wanted grandson to go out and check in the back of the truck to see if the shepherd's hooks were still in it being afraid that they had been taken out while at the farm... caught him as they were driving so talked with dd and sil who are on their way to Utah and stopping by the farm so they will double check and see if they are there they actually don't think they were taken out of it... almost wish they had been taken out and put by the 5th wheel ... but that didn't happen...
went to the store spent lots on junk shouldn't do that but did get nuts that is good right? Red Vine which my dd likes so one bag went into her room at grandma's house one on the table not sure if it's something Mom likes or not
was going to make french toast for supper but remembered that we had corn and left over brisket so fries and brisket and corn for supper...
her dr called said everything was good or at least that is what she told me now to hear from the hospital so that she can get that infusion...
was watching Murder She Wrote and it was one with a hurricane in it she is on bed rest due to back issue's but what stood out was the name of the hurricane.... Ida had to chuckle
Irmi have a save trip
you in CA take care
Martha glad you are home and all is well
well you all have a good night
