Sunday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunday

Morning All, cloudy, hot and humid. Martha, take care. Ida reduced to tropical storm predicated to pass over Maryland Tuesday to Wednesday. Traffic considerably less yesterday. Families getting ready for school so vacation is over. Will be so glad for lower humidity so I can open windows. Still searching YouTube for unusual houses or ANYTHING interesting. This posting was longer but after reviewing and deleting negative comments it’s much shorter. I have an IPhone and IPad and like both. I only use the phone to make calls, text and take pictures. I bought the cheapest and will keep until the carrier makes me change up. Be safe

Sunday on Lake Erie

Postby BirdbyBird » Sun Aug 29, 2021 8:29 am

Good morning all. Keeping Martha in my thoughts… and all of southern Louisiana. The RoadTrek and the dogs and I have made it to day four of the very hot and humid shows. We are all rather melted. Drinking lots of water and sitting in shade when ever possible. There is not electric at this show site. Usually the depend on a lovely cool breeze off the lake. It is not working. I do t think I have ever camped with this many generators running. Besides providing juice for the rigs many of us need the power to prepare our hAiry dogs for the ring. It has been an experiment for me. How much generator use can I get from my tank of gas which I filled up just before arriving on Wednesday. And there are no shower facilities so this hot sticky sweaty GHL has been taking refreshing sink baths nightly. And yes there are advantages to very short hair. Jane finished her championship and managed to go Best of Breed over three specials on Friday so the rest of the weekend is a skate. CIndy could only come Thursday and Friday so I offered to keep Player with me and take him in for her. Player is her dog that we went to Westminster with. Player and I made it through the heat yesterday and came out with a Sporting Group 2. Once again today our main wish is not to go down with the heat. The rest is icing on the cake.

A beautiful cool morning here 57° was going to get out early and finished painting the shop but a fellow is coming this morning to give me an estimate on power washing my roof to get the moss off. I dont even know if it is up there BUT when I had it inspected the guy said there was moss on my roof so we shall see. So guess the painting will wait until tomorrow. I like to get started early on these kind of projects but also dont want to get interrupted. I actually bought a "power tool" ha ha as my friend Laura can attest I am not very "tooly". I bought an Orbital sander to sand some of the rough spots off the deck railing so I can paint it. I am hoping to get all the painting projects done before fall and the rains set in. Other project is applying my water sealer to both my decks. Now I have the longest deck in the back. It is about 50+ feet long. Just an average size in the front but both are covered so dont get alot of sun damage but want to preserve them as it would be costly to replace.

Will be monitoring Ida and hoping all my friends in Louisiana stay safe. Especially thinking about Martha but sounds like she has her plan in place. I loved reading the discussion on Iphones and Androids. I am Android all the way. I did try to embrace a Mac computer once but just couldn't get it. So it spent it's life in the closet in time out until the fire, then I no longer had to worry about it. I also have an IPAD that I won at a conference. I play games and read on it, that is it. It is old now but I have a Lenovo tablet that I really like. I take it out on the deck in the nice weather and use it often. I think it is all what you get used to and learn along the way. Everything techy I buy is a learning curve. I tend to keep my phones as long as they last as they are now very expensive. I used to love Samsung but I cannot justify paying the big $$$$ for a dang phone so they priced me right out of the market. My phone will be 3 years old soon and it is still working fine so dont have to worry about that for now. I dont have a landline just my cell phone so it has to work.

Off to the shower and then some breakfast and will see what the rest of the day brings. Going to be 88 today so will just be inside stuff.

It has been horribly hot and humid here. 88 might not seem hot, but when it is combined with sun and 75% humidity, the result is uncomfortable. And I am in a spot with no shade at all. Going outside feels like stepping into a sauna. Going to rain next few days and high today will be 84. Temps will drop into the high 70s the rest of this week, which will be nice, even with the humidity.

However, considering the impending hurricane in LA, I should not be complaining. Stay safe anyone near there!!

Trying to skim through all the booklets I brought back from the UK in 2018 so I can put them in storage tomorrow. Yes, should have done this a long time ago, but better late than never. Also, hate to do it, but am going to toss my uncle's 1952 Michigan State yearbook. No one but me cares about it, and i have read the important parts a couple of times, so out it goes. It is just really heavy and if I put it in my son's basement, it will just get tossed out when I am gone anyway.

Wanted to add that summer is definitely over, and you can tell by the populations at state parks, such as this one. Kids are mostly in school, so there are almost none of them during the week and only a few on weekends. (My site is directly in front of the playground!) I assume this is because sports have started for all age groups. My 9th grade grandson has started track practice, and soccer will be starting soon for the two slightly younger girls. There will be more families and kids for the Labor Day weekend because it is three days or longer, and also because few sports will occur during that holiday, but I am guessing fewer families with kids will be out in September and later.

Karen, what IS this "rain" thing you mention? Not familiar with that! :D
Another sunny, warm day with dangerously smoky air, AQI as high as 300', but supposed to gradually improve with the dreaded wind which will make firefight much worse! AQI, just checked, now 209. Have heard planes coming and going this morning. Out with load of retardant and back for refill. Temp may top 100° again today.
Praying Martha is ok and others as well, as reports here say Ida landed with higher strength than Katrina, which hit on this date in 2005!
As a retired Navy Nurse, widow of a Navy Chief, and daughter of (deceased) WWII Marine, I am hurting for our losses. Loss of a Navy Corpsman is personal to me-they were my "kids"! Loss of Marines, my Dads "brothers and sisters" is also painful to me. Especially so, since Sgt Nicole Gee, grew up blocks from me and graduated high school where my son attended. Her husband, and now widower, also grew up here and went to Oakmont. Our city is working with her family on a hometown memorial service. If only the leaders in our country followed the known rule: You never pull the plug out of the bottom of the boat, before the boat is trailered and out of the water!
I did not sleep well last night, ESP after Stormy cat woke me about an hour into sleep, so will spend a quiet day watercolor stamping and painting and watching for updates on fires and hurricanes!
Can't believe Mel died 3 years ago next Sunday.

Martha, thinking of you today and watching the reports from LA. Stay safe.
Tina, interesting reports from current dog show.
Nothing new from this part of the country. Reading and resting.
Fire news continues bad.

I'll see if I can post without it disappearing. It looks like most of the storm will pass to the East. We have only had a few showers. It is breezy but not bad. Just watching the weather on tv. It will be hard to keep from going home tomorrow.

Martha, do you have reliable info from home. Understand you are anxious to get home, I would be too. Concerned about flooded roads or debris and loss of power. It sounds like a horrible storm. Glad you are safe.

Yay, good to hear from you Martha and that your area seems to be missing the brunt of the storm. Great news.

It's looks like I'll be making a deal with the Maine RV park already for summer 2023! I was surprised to get an email today from the person in dealing with that she'll consider trusting me to follow through. I'm excited. I'll have the best of both worlds and be thrilled to have it settled. I've never planned this far ahead before. Lol
