Mid Week Wednesdsy

Postby Colliemom » Wed Aug 25, 2021 8:41 am

Morning all. Slept in this morning and had a quick breakfast of sausage patty and cottage cheese. Want to get dressed and head into town on some errands. Supposed to have rain and maybe some storms later on.

The news of the morning is, I I cancelled my camping trip for this upcoming weekend. Was going to leave tomorrow, but weather forecast is calling for widespread rain on Friday, cloudy and rain late on Saturday and again on Sunday, then I was going to head home on Monday. Friends also have a reception to go to on Saturday, Thty just live 50 miles away, and they weren’t going to arrive until later on Friday anyway. So decided that driving all that way to spend time sitting in the trailer watching it rain didn’t sound like a fun trip, plus supposed to be warm and humid which means everything’s damp. If one is camping for a week or something, you just go with the flow, but this was a short trip. Friends are also thinking of maybe cancelling too. I am looking a different parks to see where I might like to go for a few days. We are also having a Hazardous Waste/Electronics Recycling here on Saturday and I have some oil to dispose as well as an old no longer working IPad. Hartwick Pines is having Black Iron days Saturday, there’s a Civil War encampment on this weekend too, at another place and I have a friend camping over in Traverse City, I want to go see tomorrow. So I have plenty of things going on this weekend.

Tina, it was nice seeing your post. Was wondering how you are and what you have been doing. Good luck at the dog show. Congrats on the accomplishments so far.

All the talk of Pizza has me but hungry for some now. Martha, you really set off a craving across the country  Too hot to make one here right now. I like Jet’s Deep dish Detroit Style. Have to go pick it up, but that’s okay. They don’t deliver down here and right now as they don’t deliver at all for lack of drivers. My neighbor down the road here owns the franchise.

Speaking of fire smoke, we have been getting some on and off all summer. Right now nothing, but probably will tomorrow after the winds shift behind tonight’s cold front. There’s a really big fire called the Greenwood Fire up in the Arrowhead part of MN that’s been putting out a lot of smoke. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is closed for now. There is also a 200 acre fire burning on Isle Royale National Park that was lightening caused. It is now 15% contained. I saw on the Weather Channel where the fall color may not be good this year due to heat and drought stressing the trees.

Guess I had better get moving here. Morning is moving along without me. Piper is snoozing on the live seat, Molly in “her” bedroom, so all’s well in the world here. Have a nice day all.

Changing the menu. Took a ride to the farm store, bought, fresh corn, tomatoes and half an apple pie. BLT and corn tonight. Pizza tomorrow unless Martha comes up with something better. Lol

I've got to find as farm store and buy some fresh corn. I gave up on it when they first pulled my tooth because I got some stuck in it the first week, but tooth location is more healed now, so I think I can more safely eat corn.

I had a tiny, almost toy-like drill, but it did not work well and the drill bits kept falling out. I also had an older one that has been in storage for 10 years, but the battery had leaked so I had to toss it. So yesterday, I bought a good electric drill to replace the tiny, junky one I had. It is not battery powered, but I always can run my generator to plug it in when I need it. Only $39, which is much cheaper than ones with batteries. I also dug through my tool bin and sorted and repackaged some little things in plastic bags so I can find them more easily. Would you believe I found two full sets of drills and one partial set I did not remember I had?????? Also, found a small ratchet set I had forgotten about. Giving one of the drill sets to my son and put the others back, along with my new drill. Yea! One more bin sorted and cleaned out.

Heavy rain this noon, and still raining. It was nice to have several dry days, but expecting rain the rest of the week. Wish I could send some of the rain west!

Shirl, the corn sounds good. When I was on the way to the lake last week a woman was standing at a 4 way stop on the highway waving an ear of corn. I assume she was selling corn but she was also creating a traffic jam. I wasn't going to add to it with a motorhome. The pizza I picked up yesterday was from an Italian restaurant. I get what they call the Meat Market Pizza with 5 kinds of meat. They have a pizza with lump crab and one with shrimp. I never have tried one of those. They also have a cauliflower crust that I guess you can order with any of the pizza's. I haven't tried that. They also have good Calzones.

I went to town to pick up cat food. I finally remembered to go by the insurance office. Last month when I had to have the truck towed the driver told me that I might have towing on my insurance. I checked today and I do have towing. I'm glad he told me that. I unloaded a sack at the barn and got black all over the front of my shirt.

A friend of Harold's picked up the trailer yesterday and replaced the jack that was rusting out. He showed me on one of the wheels that the nuts holding the wheel are all rusted and If it has a flat the wheel will probably have to be cut off. Oh, great. Now I have to find someone that can work on that.

It stormed for about an hour yesterday afternoon and rained an inch and a half. It was dry enough that I got some of the tall grass mowed and now there is standing water again. The weather people are all excited about a storm that is coming into the Gulf but they can't predict where it's going or how strong it will be. I told my son to get ready, we might be moving vehicles.

Barbie, you look very nice in the wedding pictures. I love your hair.

There are protests in front of one of the hospitals in Lafayette today because the hospital said that all employees have to get vaccinated. Of the 110 covid patients in that hospital. 94 are unvaccinated. I just wonder how many employees don't want to get vaccinated and who is organizing these protests. At the last school board meeting there were people protesting and wouldn't wear masks so they cancelled the meeting.

It is being an "interesting" day for California wildfires - and not in a good way.

Since I posted my update in the "More new fires in California" thread this morning, winds in the various fire areas have mostly remained relatively calm; unfortunately at least six new wildfires (and counting. . .) have erupted in an extended geographical area around the Caldor fire (which is burning closer to Lake Tahoe by the hour).

It is very surprising - and also a bit troubling - that so many new fires seem to be igniting on a calm wind day.

It remains to see how many of these new fires will become major conflagrations (hopefully, none of them); I am hearing that one of these new fires (Nevada City, Ca.) may be another arson start.

I am also hearing that a lot of the fire fighting planes are coming out of McClelland Field, an ex-Air Force base in Sacramento.

Velda, are you getting a lot of air traffic over your house?

I can't believe the hospitals aren't requiring all employees be vaccinated but guess they are afraid they will quit. I don't understand though how they can see so many non vaccinated people dying or on ventilators and still refuse the shot. A woman who works at a nearby hospital said today an out patient asked a nurse who was treating them without a mask on if she had been vaccinated and she said no. The conversation among the other nurses afterwards was hostile remarks toward the patient! Apparently not many nurses there are vaccinated. I was supposed to go there tomorrow for an MRI but I rescheduled to late September. It isn't sounding like it will be much better though before next spring!! Fires, floods, pandemic, climate change and smoke maybe Revelations has been revised.

Hospitals are supposed to make you healthier—not expose you to a communicable disease. Going for an annual doctors appt tomorrow. Will ask how many employees are vaccinated!!

I would not want to go on a cruise with unvaccinated people either.

it is my understanding that employers couldn't require vaccinations until the Pfizer vaccine was approved by the FDA. The Ochsner Medical Group, which is probably the largest in Louisiana, just announced that all employees have to be vaccinated by October 29. I wouldn't have given them that long.

My neighbors are two of the wing nuts that won't take the shot. She told me that her doctor told her that he wouldn't take it either. I wish I had ask which doctor so I don't ever go to him. She is very religious and says that when it's your time to go nothing will save you. I told her I wasn't quite ready yet. I talked to her husband the other day and he says some politician says that covid was made to kill 1/4 of the population all over the world. And something about the vaccine is doing something to our DNA. I wish I could remember all he was telling me. I would like to know who they are talking to.

Martha they are giving them that long so they can get the 2 shots and then 2 weeks later be considered vaccinated. Pfizer was FDA approved this week. LOL Yup wing nuts fits. ha ha

I personally dont care if they are vaccinated or not I just want everyone to be masked. We can all be carries and transmit the virus. I think vaccinated is best but for now the mask is more important to me.

Jackson county had the highest in the nation of positive Covid tests 614 And there was a huge protest outside the hospital over mandatory vaccines with about 1600 people there........most unmasked. Some were medical people also. The rest were just from the community for support.

I have to say as a Nurse/Travel nurse, I was mandated to get lots of vaccinations. TDAP (tetanus, diptheria, pertussis) also recommended for anyone around infants and children. MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) Hepatitis A/B, and yearly Flu vaccine. Or they would not hire us. Also a yearly physical. TB test for every contract I took. I guess I dont see the Covid vaccine as much different. Healthcare facilities trying to protect their patients.

Yup I just belong in my little bubble.

back home so back to the same old same old
went to the grocery store spent more than I normally do think I will go over the receipt so what I bought
bought some reduced steaks do think when I put them into the ziplock bag I'll write on the bag what type of steak it is so when I go to cook them I'll know what kind they are :? need to quit buying meat so that I can use up what is in the freezer.. have about 6 weeks before I plan on returning to the 5th wheel... hoping to head down to Q sometime toward the end of Oct.. at least that is the plans as of right now... as in Jello
my dd even remembered that phrase or sort of when we were traveling we jogged over into NB in Sioux City just to say we made it to NB... if I'd been by myself would have gone via way of Pat's but we had a deadline to make :( couldn't even hang out in Omaha until the niece got off of work... if we had made it to Omaha earlier in the evening I am sure she would come to see us but we didn't make it the far and even at that stopped at 1
was going to make Taco soup for supper it makes 6 servings so I told mom that if she wanted too to call niece and see if they wanted to come to supper... but they had other plans but could come tomorrow night...so instead of soup we had sandwiches soup tomorrow night in case anyone is looking for suggestions
you all have a good day

I ran into the close little town with the grocery store to get pizza sauce, etc today. I try not to look at prices but caught the price as it was rung up for a single onion and almost choked. I know prices are rising on food which is why I don't look too closely and really only buy what I need. Then I didn't make my pizza tonight. Probably will tomorrow. I'll only make a mini one so it's one meal. I wanted to get corn on the cob but they only had large yellow kernels instead of the white they've been carrying so I passed.

Back to work tomorrow. Only 2 rooms that I know of so another short day. I'm actually happy about them now, as long as I don't think about my paycheck.

Barbie, I don't remember if I commented on your pictures from the wedding... Nice and you look great in that dress.

I don't understand how nurses and medical personnel can complain about this vaccine when they are required to have all the others. How come this one is taking away their rights? The whole thing confuses me. Almost no one around here wears masks. When I go into the larger city with Walmart, etc, they are required many places there so I see more wearing them. I'm becoming more lackadaisical and chastise myself for it. But I'm rarely close enough to to anyone to really worry about it. It's easy to social distance most of the time.

I slept almost 10 hours last night! Woke up feeling much better with my shoulder. I do have a CBD/THC ointment that I bought from our receptionist who makes it and sells it. It really works well so I slathered that all over my neck, shoulder and upper arm before work today. I had no problem with it all day so that was really good!

I also don't understand how nurses can go to work trying to save lives of people who have Covid and see how devastating it is to these patients and their families, and yet still refuse to get vaccinated! Makes absolutely no sense to me at all! Even the company I work for now requires everyone to be fully vaccinated. Even delivery people coming in have to either show their vaccination card or have to wear a mask. And all we do is handle weed!

Thank you for all the compliments on the wedding photos. That dress was so comfortable! I will definitely hang on to it. And I bought it at a thrift store for 5 bucks! :o

I love fresh sweet corn! Our corn season is in the spring here. I take a peek at it to find ears that have white or light yellow smaller kernels that are shiny, so I know it is fresh and juicy! Large darker yellow and/or dull kernels mean they are tough and dry. I learned how to microwave it so it is so much quicker and less messy now and just as tasty! Really good sweet corn is like candy to me! I could eat it for ever!

Judy, I used to have a rechargeable drill but whenever I needed to use it (not very often) it was no longer charged up and would have to recharge it before I could use it, that is if I could find the charger for it. I finally replaced it with an electric drill. I needed to use it last week for my gourd project but couldn't find the drill bit case, so I had to go out and buy a small set. One of these days, I will get all my tools organized so I can find tools, etc when I need them!

The place I buy my favorite spaghetti also is known for their pizza so I think I will order one from them to check it out. I love Pizza Hut pizza but they are very expensive. Target stores used to sell Pizza Hut personal pizzas at their snack shops but they don't have those anymore, at least not out here. Now they just have Starbucks now.

The lady I cat sat for came by tonight with a card for me from Lily. I thanked her and told her I had a great time with Lily. I opened the card and there was a $50 bill inside with a note "from Lily" that said "thank you for taking good care of me". So cute and thoughtful!

Off to bed...
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
