Thanks Beth. Guess everyone is mask shopping. These are sold out and they don't know when or if they will be back in stock. :(

Wow.

Thanks Karen and Beth for posting this link. Even though I had already ordered the KN-95 masks I mentioned in my earlier post, after seeing Karen's recommendation I decided to immediately jump right back in and order some of these as well; which I did just as soon as I saw Karen's post.

Then the lead story on the Nightly News last night was that the recommendations were for most everyone to go back to mask wearing, and I thought "Oh-oh".

These new N-95 masks should be here in a couple of days. I will also keep the previously ordered KN-95 masks "for backup", and also because I can use these in my lapidary hobby (grinding/polishing rocks creates a lot of silicate rock dust, which is very bad for the lungs).

BJ, hope these are back in stock for you soon. Keep checking; I know that often items listed as "out of stock" on Amazon soon come back into stock, often within a few days.

Hopetully this will be true of these as well.

When I looked on Amazon regarding these masks, I worried about the one-star reviews saying many are counterfeit, came in opened wrappings, etc. I realize there are good reviews too. Makes you wonder whether to buy or not.

I have been buying stuff on Amazon for about twenty years. Over time, I have noticed that any specific product item, if it remains on Amazon long enough, (and accumulates a large enough number of Amazon's "Ratings"), some percentage will always be negative, for one reason or another.

My personal "rule of thumb" (I am not advocating this for anyone else, this is just for me) that if there are a large enough number of ratings to suit my fancy (at least in the hundreds, often in the thousands) and if the 5 star and 4 star ratings combined are in the mid to upper 80's percentage-wise (or above) I will generally make the purchase (again, this is just me).

During my twenty Amazon years, I don't believe that I had ever returned anything - until after the pandemic hit. Since then, of the random stuff I buy on Amazon (from beads for making jewelry, to lapidary supplies, to bathroom shelving) about 10% - 15% of the items are of poor quality (most recently I ordered a bathroom shelf that came without instructions, nor the 30 or so bolts required to put it together - it went back).

I now have no hesitation to return poor-quality items and have found, thus far, that the return process via Amazon is relatively pain-free (although I still hate doing returns).

Again, this is just me. All of us, of course, need to make our own determinations of what works for us.

And, of course, choosing whether or not to purchase personal items - like masks - sight-unseen, online, is particularly fraught.

I’m not sure why, but I start out looking at the 1-star reviews first. If I see enough that I don’t like, I move on to check out other options.

I looked up the masks I ordered previously and still have some. Wow they've gone up in price. They are also from 3m but have a particulate respirator which at the time were recommended because of the bad smoke and my asthma. That said, if I needed more now I'd buy what you folks are.

My time here in Utah is almost to the 1/2 way point. I'm looking forward to it being over. Oh well. I'm making the most of it. I know 2 of the workamping couples haven't gotten the vaccine. No one in this area is wearing a mask. I went to Walmart last week and think that might be my last shopping except the small local stores which have less people. One thing about the n95 masks .. people usually think you have a health reason when they see it being worn. Cuz around here people don't understand masking, except my doctor's appt at the clinic inside the hospital where they were required.

Sandi I'm careful about bad reviews as I think people are more likely to leave them. So, like Anne, I weigh them all and read what it is people like or don't. Kind of like RV park reviews where people prefer paved parking lots or consider the bathrooms of utmost importance while I prefer rustic and could care less about bathrooms. So if the are lots of reviews and they average 4 stars, I'll only consider the low reviews if all the new reviews are low which often means something changed.

I just found out for sure I was exposed to Covid on Monday. I mentioned in an earlier post that my neighbor had covid. She and her husband came home early from their vacation as they both felt ill. She felt better the second day and made soup and brought me some neither of us had on a mask and at that point they hadn't been tested. I suspected they might have it but stupid me opened the door as she handed me the soup. She said a couple of things and then stepped back off the porch. So I had maybe a 30 second exposure. She tested positive today. They both were vaccinated. I have the appointment with the Neurosurgeon on Monday and my friend who is supposed to take me is needless to say hesitant now. They have rapid tests available here so guess I could get one on Sunday but I'm not sure how long incubation is. My BP was already high no telling what it is now. Trying to be calm but getting the appointment was a miracle and I really hope I don't have to miss it.

Yikes. BJ.

So very sorry this happened, it must be very alarming for you, I know it would be for me.

Don't be too hard on yourself - I think one of the reasons this virus has become so insidious is because we are all such social beings, and we all mostly try to live our lives within our life-long ingrained socially polite norms. Until those norms suddenly don't apply so much anymore.

It is so very easy to let our guard down during an otherwise innocent exchange. I know I have done it, more than once.

Sending to you good and calming thoughts, and my very best wishes.

I love shopping on Amazon and I have mostly gotten what I have paid for and if I dont like it I just also send it back or if it was cheap just keep it and use it til it craps out on me LOL

I also look at the percentage of reviews and I like to read the comments and make sure I am reading the newest reviews because we all know things change. There will always be people unhappy for whatever reason and as long as there isnt alot of them I just throw them out of the mix. So far that works for me. Like Beth said RV people discount or rave about some parks I would have no part of and others I love and they hate. you know "there is a train, or the highway, etc"

BJ I am not sure your brief 30 second exposure is ominous. If she had come into your house I would have been much more worried. My new neighbor that just moved in came over to tell me something and introduce himself. I came out on my porch and we kept our distance. Both he and his wife are teachers and are vaccinated but I still kept my respectable distance.
