Friday July 23rd ~ Hot Enough For Ya Day

Mornin' ladies~

Yep. There really is a day for heat in the northern hemisphere. It's also Georgeous Grandma Day. So celebrate ladies!

The smoke from the fires had been lingering over the Chicago area, but accordinh to the weather guy, it usually does not hit ground level until the afternoon, but with the 90° temps, it's not going up over night like usual. I have only smelled smoke from the fires once, and that was a years ago.

No more visits with Dad. They've shut down because someone has tested positive for Covid, but at least we still had a lesson yesterday with PT, for getting in and out of the car.

That's my Itty bitty news. Stay safe everyone.

Morning Cheryl and all. Fire smoke has been here more than blue skies it seems these days. Once in awhile I get a whiff of it. As long as there’s a NW flow of wind, we will have it here. Ours is more fromCanadian fires The biggest being in Quantico Provincial Park just north of the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness are in MN. It is threatening to jump the border into MN. It is 60 degrees here this morning, heading to low 80’s today.

Sorry your visits with your dad got stopped. But at least he will be coming home in a few days, so that will help. I also hope you get some help at home with him too.

Heading to town in a few. Hearing aid checkup day. Then hop the freeway and head down to Grayling for a craft show and back home. Went to a Flywheelers show yesterday and browsed the craft show and flea market. Was like taking a step back in time with all the old steam fired equipment, antique tractors, old time tools on display, and craft persons doing basket making, weaving and yarn spinning.

Guess I had better get moving. Hope you all have a nice day and please stay safe.

Up and at em. Going to be 93 today so need to get a few things done in the yard before it warms up....only 56 here right now so feels great. Doors and windows open in hopes of cooling down the house a wee bit. I trimmed my Japanese Maple tree yesterday as it was down to the ground and I didnt like that. So got out the trusty hedge trimmer and now it looks great. I didnt have much garbage this week as I was gone for most of it so had room to throw the debris I raked up from the tree inside.

Cheryl sorry to hear no more visits. Our state is still open so not sure tho for how long. Cases are going up everywhere now. Not dramatically but I watch the increase every day. This Covid is really a bugger. I am not sure we will ever get a good handle on it. I am glad I got my vaccine tho. Don't know yet if a booster will be an option but we shall see.

After it warms up I will continue my organizing inside the house. I keep tucking things away and then having to look thru umpteen cupboards or drawers to find what I am looking for. Still looking for a couple of things that have disappeared LOL No smoke here so that is great, even tho we have fires going on the wind is blowing them easterly. And the huge one is southeast from me. It was hazy when I was in Medford but no smoke smell.

Okay have to go get some stuff done outside while it is still cool because it warms up quickly.

Temps here, about 10 degrees warmer than where Karen is-i woke to 66 vs her 56°! And the day will be higher too, in low to mid 100°. We are predicted to get some smoke at some point this weekend, as upper level winds are changing direction towards us. Not looking forward to that. Been a long hot summer already!
Will go to Curves then home with no errands as I don't want to be out in heat. Spent another 2hours yesterday looking at each piece of paper and shredding documents Mel had saved over his Navy career and post military careers. Would love to just dump the entire packed file cabinet but have run across too many papers I need to save, such as deed to house and military awards,so it's one piece of paper at a time. But every bag of shreds that goes out feels like progress.
We get the Olympic channel so expect to be watching all evening as the main games begin. Watched rowing last night. Usually I do food to match the country holding the games, but can't find Japanese take out we both like, nor do I feel like cooking a bunch of new recipes, so I'll have to see what Chris wants.
CoVid numbers for mostly Delta here are rising mostly in Sacramento where, for some reason people just aren't getting vaccinated. I sure wish we could get thus whole pandemic thing behind us!
Mandy and I are having a cuddle, then I gotta get moving . Have a good day.

I picked up my motorhome yesterday. An RV Tech brought out my RV, started the generator and turned the air conditioner on. The generator was running smooth. The RV Tech looked like he just graduated from high school but everyone looks like a kid to me. Some where on the way home the generator stopped. I can't hear the generator when the engine is running. When I got home I started the generator again and turned on the air conditioner. It would run about 5 minutes with the air on. I tried it twice and called the shop. They told me to bring it back but it was too late to bring it yesterday and they are closed on Friday. Good grief, they had it 2 weeks it looks like they would have tried it with a load. It's a PIA to get it to Lafayette because my son has to bring me home. I'm glad I don't have a trip planned.

The weather channel says our rain chance is 20% but it has already rained hard twice. They are also saying there is flash flooding in Arizona.

There was a message on my computer that the governor gave a speech but I missed it. I wouldn't be surprised if we are going back to a mask mandate.

Phone pics of the moon never do it justice, but I had to take a picture of tonight's moon flirting with the clouds.

Night everyone.

I had set my alarm for 2am to check the trap. Got up then and looked out the window. Big fat raccoon in there! Went out and carefully opened the trap door to let him out. Luckily, he bolted and ran across the yards. I set the trap again and went back inside. Got up at 4am to check...nothing. Got up at 6am...nothing. I called the TNR lady and told her I didn't catch any cats. The next TNR won't be until the end of August. I was very happy to go back to sleep but by then I wasn't able to.

Needless to say, I was tired all day. Got thru work and we even got to leave an hour early today.

Sheila, I don't have much land to plant stuff here. My lot is mostly concrete. I have one small spot I could plant a hibiscus or something in the fall. The bougainvilleas around here grow like crazy but they are all planted in the ground. I think between the heat and the wind, anything in pots just can't survive in the summer here.

Cheryl, I hope you can get your dad back home soon.

Martha, sorry to hear the generator still isn't working right. What a waste of time that was. Hope they get it right the next time.

Gov. Newsome wants to do a mask mandate too, but I think he is afraid that won't go over well and he might lose the recall election over that. There are 41 people running against him. I can't see how he could lose since those 41 will split the votes enough by those who want him out, that none of the 41 will get enough votes to beat him.

Tomorrow I will work on laundry and the kitchen. I have to finally do laundry since I am down to either wearing dresses to work or going in nekked!

Time to get some sleep!

Barbara, that's NOT how the recall works. There will be two items on the ballot. 1. should Newsom be recalled? And 2. The list of candidates for replacing him. Only if tne majority vote Yes to recall will tne list of candidates even be looked at and if the vote is YES recall, then the one of the list who gets the highest tally wins and will be governor and have to immediately begin their reelection campaign as the next election for governor is fall 2022.
Sorry you only caught a raccoon ! Thank you for what you are doing for neighborhood cats.
Barbara, have you tried the water absorbing crystals mixed into soil, to help keep plants with continuous supply of moisture between your watering? The crystals absorb water as you pour it in planter then gradually release back to plant. I have had good luck with them in past, though I decidedly have a brown thumb and don't bother trying anymore.
Martha I'm so frustrated for you with the whole generator issue. We had trouble with the generator not starting in the van and finally I took it to the dedicated generator repair in my area, and within 20 min their very experienced tech found inside a panel not often removed, that a foam cover had been left off or fallen off the internal air intake and a bug had built a nest. He removed the obstruction and put on tne required foam cover and the generator started first try and has worked ever since, we had had trouble with it almost from when we bought it and had it "repaired " under warranty, and it stopped working again , then later paid 2 different places to fix unsuccessfully. After Mel died, I made appointment with Holly Generator and they found the bug nest! Said it should have been obvious to any tech who actually removed tne inside cover and looked! Learned later that no RV place here really does generator repair here, all actually send the generator to Holly, then charge the customer double what Holly charged them!!! But tell tne customer that their own techs did repair!
Sue, sounds like a nice project to get that strip reprinted. I'd love to replace tile in my kitchen with an updated material such as one of the stone products. The small 6x6 tiles with wide grout lines are a royal pain to care for and go all tne way up tne wall to bottom of cupboards. so putting in new counter would entail removing a lot of tile and doing something else.

Velda, I really did not understand the recall process. I wondered about that because it sounded odd to me. Makes more sense to me now.

I will try those water crystals when I get more plants in the fall. The winter season isn't usually too bad since the weather is cooler and I get out more to water them. But the heat of summer just sucks up any moisture and burns the plants.
