Thursday July 22 ~ Lion's Share Day

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Thursday July 22 ~ Lion's Share Day

Postby IrishIroamed » Thu Jul 22, 2021 6:03 am

Mornin' ladies~

"On Lion's Share Day, it's perfectly okay to try to take more than your share of something. A "lion's share" is an idiom meaning "the largest part of something divided amongst other people." The expression comes from one of Aesop's fables, where a lion asks animals to help him hunt, and then afterwards tells them reasons why he should get to keep all parts of the spoils."
So go and grab all the gusto you can today.

Have been spending the last few days going to different forest preserve offices/museums in Will County IL. They have an endangered species quilt exhibition, so the quilts are split between locations. Some are so pretty. Some sad, like a beluga with a tear. One more location which I'll go to today.

Dad will be coming home from rehab on Sunday. I will be taking his car today for a lesson with PT on getting him in and out of the car. Hopefully it won't be too bad since he's 75% functional. So after Sunday, I'll be house bound with him. And the the real fun begins. NOT!

Have a good day ladies.

Good Morning, I can't tell what sort of a day this will be weather wise, but I'm up and as ready as possible for it. We have been having haze from the fires.
Cheryl I've been enjoying your photos from the places you have been visiting in Will County, especially the endangered species quilt museum. I'm so sorry about your 'on hold' status'. Will you have help with your Dad, even with help 24 hour care will be a challenge. Sending big hugs for you both.
I was able to make an appointment with a neurosurgeon in St Louis who specializes in Trigeminal Neuralgia yesterday. There aren't many in the country and I was very surprised I was able to make the appointment myself and didn't have to ask the neurologist to make it for me!! I've been finding it is hard to connect with any physicians office so I was shocked when a lovely kind voice answered and helped me right away. Usually a recorded message tells you to leave your message. The added plus is the appointment is August 2nd!! When I called I almost gave up at the phone tree as there was no option to make an appointment. Finally I just picked the extension for patients and a miracle happened!!! The woman I spoke with asked me more questions than the neurologists I've seen, said the first appointment was the end of September but...she was going to talk to the doctor and call me back. She called within an hour with the August date!! My laughing friend is going to take me and be my second ears. I call her my laughing friend as we always end up having an episode of uncontrollable laughter where ever we go.
Irmi I'm so glad you are seeing light at the end of your massive project!! I hope you and Steve can relax and enjoy his birthday with your friends tomorrow!
Beth I hope your perm turned out the way you wanted.

Good morning Cheryl, B.J. & all!

Cheryl, I too, have been following your travels and I loved the quilts. B.J., I'm so happy you're going to see the new doctor and hope he is able to help you. I'll try to remember to go out tonight to see the moon.

Today is a down day for us, as far as not going to the house. Steve finally talked to a person at Habitat for Humanity to see if they would come and get our leftover things that didn't sell. We should hear back from them in a couple days. So today we'll do some grocery shopping for the ingredients for tomorrows dinner for Steve's birthday. Beth, Steve said thanks for the birthday wishes!

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone!

Morning All, life sure is a challenge. I’ve had a horrible attack of I guess asthma. Doctor didn’t give a name just a rx for an inhaler. I guess my lovely dinner on friends sun porch was too much humidity for me. Sadly giant Juliet tomato plant died along with other plants while I was struggling to breathe. Today is suppose to be low humidity so will try to cut up dead plants. Cheryl, I’ve walked in your shoes being a caregiver but am walking in your dads shoes now. Best wishes for both of you. Going to stay indoors and continue breathing. :D Be safe

Good morning Everybody,
I will live today with gusto Cheryl. It may not last as I return to my aerobics class this morning at 10:00, after nearly a two year hiatus! Sore tomorrow.

BJ, I did see the orange moon the other night and it was so high in the sky and not on the horizon. I texted my friends at 9:30 pm and told them to look out the window.

Happy Birthday Steve Be sure to enjoy it with gusto...

BJ, yes I gazed at the beautiful moon when I came out of my meeting last night. When I am camping I always appreciate that I noticed the moon much more because of those nightly potty breaks with the dogs.

I have found that using messaging through my MyChart or similar platform, each hospital system or physician's group seem to have them around here, has worked pretty well. I have been having difficulty my RX insurance questioning some of the meds that my neurologist has been trying me on. I can get information regarding what the issue is from the pharmacist at Walgreens and I send a message through the charts. The Doctor has an assistant who gave me her name and extension after my first appointment. She is generally the one who is checking the messages and gets right back to me even if it is to tell me that the doctor is only working half days and she won't be able to get the message to him until the next day.

Currently my days seem filled with medical appointments and dog stuff. At least the dog stuff helps balance life out.

Good morning. Had a good time down in Medford at my friends house. We went out for Mexican food and it was just okay. I wont go there again but it was close to her house and it was hot so we just wanted quick. Went to Outback on Tuesday night and I had a good steak and of course a bloomin onion....mine was good but Lois's was a bit tough. Hey Emma enjoyed the leftovers. Had my infusion on Tuesday. Since I am there for 5 hours I got lots of time to "observe". WOW how that infusion group has changed. Borders on incompetent now. Since I only go every 6 months alot changes in that time. Hope it changes again before January for the better. Took 3 sticks this time until the only professionally dressed and confident gal came over as I told the fellow (aka slob) he only got to stick me twice then find someone else!!!!!! I watched them try to start IV's on several people with multiple sticks geez. Think I will start my own next time LOL

Came home and watered everything well. Supposed to be hot this weekend again. Was only 87 yesterday, totally tolerable. Moving into the high 90's this weekend UGH. I was surprised that it wasn't very smoky in Medford from the Bootleg and Jack fire. Just hazy but no smell to it so I was happy.

Today will be laundry and organizing some stuff around the house. Seems like I put it in a good place and then when I need it I have to search for it hah

Cheryl sorry you are going to be parked for a while but hopefully you can enjoy what your local area has to offer at times. Irmi you are getting it done for sure. What a relief it will be when you are finished and can move back to your home base. Enjoy Steve's birthday and your friends visit. Beth we need a pic of your perm. BJ sure hope you get some relief with your new Doc. I am impressed you got such a quick appointment that is great. Shirl sorry your asthma is kicking your butt, use that inhaler and stay inside until you feel better. I am so glad we never have much humidity here but wish we did for the fire situations. Seems like a new one is popping up every day.

Guess I will have some breakfast soon and then tackle my plan for the day. Sometimes my plan gets smaller and smaller and then other days I do more than planned. Guess it evens out in the long run ha ha

Oh Shirl, so sorry. I hope the inhaler is doing it's job for you. I hate saying here that I've never felt any of the inhalers prescribed for me have ever seemed helpful. Thus the other meds I always need. Karen, you are better than me. One stick better do it or I'm not happy. What a mess.

I'm moving slowly. I know I have little work today. I don't want any lol. But it won't get done if I keep procrastinating.

Cheryl, I'm so sorry for what your life (your dads life) is dealing you. I hope you have some help!

Cheryl, that's interesting about the Lion's Share. My mother used so many idioms and I didn't really know what they meant until I was grown. I wish you and your dad the best. Take any help you can get.

BJ, hope you get some relief from the new doctor. My sister is going to get something done in about 3 weeks. I did see the moon last night because I had to go get cat food out of the car. I didn't notice that it was orange.

Judy, hope you don't get mice in your RV. I have compassion for most animals but not mice. I will even save a snake. Mice are so destructive and nasty.

Shirl, sorry you lost your plants. Hope you are breathing better.

Peggy, good luck with the aerobics class. My attempts at exercises only last about one day. I have even gotten out of the habit of walking everyday. It's almost dark before it's cool enough to walk. I do have a tread mill but would have to turn it over and get the cat hair out of it before I turn it on.

Karen, I have been wanting Mexican food but just don't like to go to a restaurant alone. I need to tell the lady that schedules our Meetup Meals to include Mexican sometime. I tried a couple of frozen mexican dinners and they are not very good. Banquet use to have one that I could buy for only $1 on sale but they quit making it. It wasn't too bad and was cheap. I never did like the Outback in Lafayette except for the Bloomin Onion. My friend that I ate out with moved to New Orleans and I found out yesterday they are moving to Georgia. They still have family here so will see them sometime.

I can go pick up my motorhome today. I'm waiting for my son to call and tell me when he can come get me. I ask the secretary twice to ask if they had ever installed a GPS tracker on a motorhome. There are so many posts on Facebook about stolen RV's. I have looked at some online but the reviews aren't good for some of them. When I traveled with my sister she always wanted to stop and eat some where. I could just see walking away from the motorhome and it being gone when we got back. So many vehicles are stolen in South Texas. We almost had a truck stolen in FT Worth. This week I would have rather had them call about my golf cart. I have even thought about going to the pond on the lawn mower but there is a big mud hole at one of the gates. I guess I could load up a chair and the fishing equipment in my wagon.

Wow! So many posting already this morning! Everyone is up and at'em already!

I have a book of Aesop's Fables somewhere. It is a library book from grade school that never got returned. I love reading the fables so I have kept the book all these years.

I guess being south of the fires, we aren't getting an orange moon here. I do see a very orange sunset tho occasionally if the wind it coming from the north.

My hibiscus plants and my bougainvillea plant all died a couple weeks ago. Too hot for them. I think they would have done better if they were planted in the ground but in pots, they dry out really fast. Maybe I need to just plant cactus here.

Cheryl, hope you can handle your dad thru his recovery. Hope he isn't the stubborn type and will allow you to help him with whatever he needs. Make sure you take care of yourself too!

BJ, I hope you can get some answers from the new doctor.

I had a new visitor to the food dish last night...

I knew I was getting a coonie visiting lately and here he is. I think he is too big to fit in the trap I will set tonight. Will see what I get by morning!

Have a good day!

Not sure if I am "up and at'em" but at least I am up. Laid in bed for at least an hour after waking up. Now dressed and eating a very late breakfast at 1 pm. Nice to see that everyone has such loft ambitions for today. My goal for today is to finish documenting the hours I have spent on POA work from July to December 2020. Hard to go back in time, but comparing emails and phone call records and just trying to reconstruct what I did. I have been pretty much documenting 2021 as I do things, so that will be easier.

Then, I will start on sorting through the two large bags of old family stuff I brought from my son's house. I had quickly packed it up 9 years ago when I sold my condo but have not touched it since, other than to go through some stuff with grandkids last week at my son's house. Lost the kids one-by-one, starting with the youngest, go ended up pulling out the stuff I wanted to sort through on my own, but mostly just dumping it into two big bags. Got a plastic bin yesterday so I have something to put things in. A lot of loose stuff will have to go into plastic ziplock bags as I sort it. Also am going to give away stuff to my niece and some cousins as I find it. For example, I found the high school graduation program for one of my uncles-by-marriage, so that will go to his son, my cousin. Some photos will also be given away to the appropriate families because my kids do not even know who those aunts, uncles, and cousins are. That task will no doubt take me several days.

Tooth is OK, but my biggest problem is that due to infection, there is a hole between where tooth root was and my sinus, so cannot blow my nose for at least a week! Taking sudafed, but having to do a lot of blotting and awkward and careful sniffling!! Will be glad when this all heals. Still hard to eat on opposite side.

Good afternoon!

So many newsy posts - both good and not so good. Cheryl, hope your dad is an easy 'patient'. Shirl, I was starting to worry about you - hope breathing gets easier. Beth, cute curly hair! Martha and Karen, come visit and I'll take you for good Mexican food - well at least the nachos are good there along with the margaritas! BJ, always great to get a helpful person on the phone and to get that quick appointment. Irmi, sounds like progress! Sue, I wish I could stay as motivated as you are!

We are having cooler (80s) weather for a couple days. The portable pressure washer came so patio, window ledges, etc. have been washed down. This morning the Sling got a bit of a wash and the car got the dust sprayed off. I've started going through genealogy I haven't looked at in awhile - a bit overwhelming. I bought a small corner display shelf and got out some of the things Steven gave me (still plenty more) in the living room. Already ordered another for the bedroom. One of these days maybe I'll get at least one room furnished and finished so I can take photos. Replacement parts for the desk and rest of furniture order should come any time.

So far we aren't getting smoke here though there are still fires burning in the distance. Had a small brush fire on the river island at the downtown park the other day.

Yet another Amazon order to arrive today and having them all sent to Monica's. Need to go to the store for fruits and veggies.
