Sunday July 11

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunday July 11

Morning All, weather is the same, sunny, hot and humid. I walked the trash to the dumpster and it is was like breathing water. I had a very enjoyable dinner with porch friend. The carry out dinner was excellent, good conversation and beautiful view. Very little boat traffic, I guess because of gas prices. No plans for the coming week except a couple errands for family and staying home in the ac. Anne, Joes story brightened the dinner conversation last night. I think about everyone suffering with the unbearable heat. Be safe

Good morning to all - just a short note to let every one know that we have not been completely cooked yet. But we are way past medium. Official temp here in Vegas yesterday was 117 and same for today but we live in the lowest part of the valley so it is always a couple of degrees higher here. We did run to the grocery store at 7:00 a. m. yesterday - had to have the AC on in the car... Then spent rest of day watching TV - well I did. Bill make a big batch of spaghetti sauce. So today will separate it into meals and freeze. We watched NASCAR race and South American soccer match. And so many Hallmark Christmas movies I can't get the Carols out of my brain. About 5:00 in the evening even with the AC and all the ceiling fans running the temperature in here goes up some. Then starts dropping again about 8 o'clock. It has gotten as high as 88 inside. Bill loves it - I don't move, just sit doing nothing. Next week it is cooling down to 106 - surprisingly it does make a difference.
To everyone else with high heat and or bad weather take care. Nothing needs to be done when it isn't safe to do it. Take care.

Morning, I can't say it is good as my eyes popped open around two last night and that was the end of sleep. This morning we have a plumber here, thank goodness, as we have a major sewage blockage. We thought it was a water pipe from the basement as water is coming through the wall and across the floor. I just signed for a $580. charge and that was just for to him to hopefully unclog the line. So I told him OH so this is just sort of a down payment....guess there is also a broken water pipe that is down about 4 feet. DH and I are betting on what the total cost will be. There may also be a crack in the basement wall from the water that has leaked through.

Shirl I'm glad you and your friend were able to get together, last minute plans are some of the best.

Carol just read about the heat I hope it cools off soon and below 106!

It's only 89 here this morning but probably headed up. We only have a 20% chance of rain but there is rain all across the top half of the state. I won't count on it not raining today. Carol, hope it cools off for you.

BJ, sorry to hear about your plumbing problem. All of our pipes are only about a foot deep. That's good if there is a problem but not good if it freezes for a week.

Sheila, my eye doctor recommends Areds2, a vitamin for your eyes. I try to remember to take it everyday since I already have a problem. I am starting to have a problem in the eye that has a defect in the retina. I need new glasses and am trying to hold off until my appointment in August. I had a dry eye problem at a campout last year and a friend gave me one of the little containers of eye drops. I didn't know those were available so got some to carry in my RV.

Barbie, I bought a thing almost like the one you bough for Lola. I was going to use it when I was taking CC camping but it's just easier to leave him home. At least I have it in case I have to camp with a sick cat.

There is a house for sale on line that I keep looking at and even drove by it a couple of weeks ago just to see where it was. I don't like where it is but am drawn to the floor plan. Last night I got out some house plan books I have. In one of the books I have a plan marked with a piece of mail with almost the exact plan of the house that's for sale. The piece of mail is dated 2010. So weird. That was probably when we were talking about building.

Yesterday I mowed the side of the hill where I walk all the time and part of the back yard. I have to be very careful or will get the mower stuck. I will be glad when the yard drys up.

I want to go camping with my friends so much but don't have an RV. lol They will probably get my generator fixed in a couple of days. I keep looking at the maps trying to find a way to get to the campout without taking I-10 through Baton Rouge. There is just no easy way.

I better go dig in the freezer and find something to cook today. There are several places that sell BBQ chicken on Sundays but I'm too lazy to go get some. I have a bag of frozen chicken and sausage jambalaya that I bought to see if it would be good for a potluck. I might cook that.

Good morning!

Shirl, so glad you had a nice evening! BJ, ouch on the plumbing repairs. Martha, sorry the house isn't in a location you like. I don't have what it takes to maintain a house and yard so I have to be content with the apartment which isn't much different than a RV park. Barbie, hope you are feeling better.

My BFF changed coming today until tomorrow so I ran a couple errands yesterday and then gave myself a day off to rest my arm. At 4:30 I got a text asking if she could come today and she would explain when she got here. Haven't heard she's on her way yet and didn't ask what time she thought she might come. It's a 2 1/2 hour drive so getting things done - like cleaning and cooking. Entertained myself by watching the Roomba. :)

Oh lordy! BFF is here!

Good morning gals!

I laid low yesterday. The only time I went outside was to refill the water bins for the cats. I also set up the trap at the one house but tied it to stay open if one of the cats goes in there to eat, they can get back out. Am trying to get them to trust it. Not sure that will work tho. Depends on how hungry they are. Will check to see if the food is gone this morning.

It was 120* yesterday with humidity. Today will "only" be 116*. There is no wind this morning. Still too hot to do laundry so will maybe tackle the dishes today. Golf is on this afternoon too, so will catch some of that.

I have a wedding to go to in the middle of August which is in Escondido, about 2 hours from here over the mountains. I decided to get a motel room for Sunday night (the wedding is on Sunday), so I wouldn't have to drive back over the mountains in the dark. Then I thought if I got it for Saturday night too, I would have time to visit some friends in that area on Saturday. Well, when I went to make reservations with Motel 6, Sunday night would cost $70 but Saturday night was $170!!!. So I decided I will just get the room for Sunday night. However, check-in time is 3pm. The wedding is at 2pm, so I wouldn't be able to get in there and get ready for the wedding before it starts and would have to drive up there all dressed for it already. So I called back to the motel last night to see if there was any way I could check in earlier, but their phone just rang off the hook every time I called. I will check again today. Otherwise, I will just have to drive for 2 hours there already dressed for the wedding, which really sucks. It is a semi-formal wedding. :(

Just waiting for my church service to start on-line at 10.

Great morning here 60° BUT we will be warming up in the 90's but cool down to the 80's starting Wednesday, NOW that is more to my liking. Got my robot vacuum on the job, ice maker making more ice, and if I remember will run my dishwasher later, just to keep it lubed. I hate that thing LOL I prefer hot soapy water, I know I am crazy. But when it is just me I probably would run out of dishes before I had a load.

Ordered more dirt and compost from Home Depot and ordered it to pick up curbside. With the lack of workers no one to help you load anymore so this solves that problem. I can unload it myself but pushing that dang cart that is possessed with a heavy load on it just is more than I want to do. Will have them load it then will go inside and get some other things I need. I want some Home Defense spray for the outside of the house as I am now accumulating cobwebs....they got to go. So far no more ants this last month but they usually show up a couple times a year, I hate those darn little buggers. Need a few things for my drip system then I should be good to go for a while. Might pop in the grocery store too just for some fresh fruit and salad fixings.

OH BJ that doesnt sound good. Will your insurance help cover the cost? Hope Martha that you get your RV back soon. I was super lucky with my rig as I never had a bit of trouble with my generator in 13 years. Had other issues but that wasnt one of them. I miss my rig sometimes but it was actually too big for casual camping. When I was working and living in it that was great. Not sure yet if I will get another smaller one or not. Time will tell.

I grew up in southern California, Huntington Beach and we had earthquakes all the time. Was fun to watch the pool water slosh LOL we just didnt think much about them. I will take them any day over hurricanes and tornadoes. Now we had a house didnt live in a high rise or I might have worried more. We have them here in Oregon but mostly off the coast so I havent felt one since I lived in Redding CA, we had a big one that was super loud which I wasnt used to any noise with them and that was different.

Well time to shower and be ready for Home Depot to let me know my order is ready.

Pouring down rain right now--got over an inch in last two hours. Son is picking me up so I can borrow his car. Will drive him back home and then have it until he gets back from his business trip on Thursday. Trying to think of some place to take kids while he is gone. DIL would be happy to get them out of her hair while she works from home, but at least they are older now--ages 11,13, and almost 15. They can even walk to the nearby country club pool because it is through their subdivision and they can charge food there, but they are lazy and prefer hanging around the house. (Pool has a lifeguard whenever it is open.)

BUT, the campground is mostly empty on this weekday, which is nice. You can tell people are back to work mostly because last summer, what campgrounds that were open had a lot of people staying for the entire week.

Barbie, why not call around and see if there is a hotel/motel that has earlier check-in times??

Plumber left around noon and it wasn't as bad as he thought when he got into it. Whew!! I guess the first number was an estimate as the total was only $530.00, turned out he didn't have to dig any holes! maybe I got a discount for the coffee and cookies I offered him. Karen I didn't think about insurance covering any of the cost. Anyway thank you all for the kind thoughts. Now if I can only get a nap. I'm taking a muscle relaxer the new drug they are trying for this issue I have in my mouth and I think they have worked opposite. Maybe I'm just wired from all the plumbing issues as I am still not sleepy.

Feel for anyone dealing with house plumbing issues. In the first year after Mel died, I discovered a wet spot out back. I knew it had to be our water main from street to house (therefore my responsibility), as Mel and I had dug trench for it, I knew and saw dollar signs as I saw it ! Drought had likely shifted soil causing micro-crack and tree roots found it and pushed ot apart. I had noticed very slight drop in water pressure, but thought it was neighbors using a lot, until I saw bubbling from ground. Thankfully Sean and Crew were able to get it fixed, cutting through many tree roots, which led to death of 2 trees, a eucalyptus and a redwood, which this year cost me more $ to remove. House ownership, ongoing fun!
Still in record heat wave here. Yesterday's 115° may not be topped today , but close. At 10 it was 92. Just staying in with our AC.
Stay safe everyone.

Jambalaya review, too much tomato and not enough meat. It was also a little too peppered for me. I won't be buying that again. I am alway looking for things to bring for a potluck. I want to cook it at home and freeze it or buy something that is frozen and doesn't take much cooking. I bought a small 4 quart slow cooker to bring to the camp. It was perfect to heat and serve the baked beans in. I might get one to keep in the motorhome. I have one of the big slow cookers with the lid that latches but no where to store it in the motorhome.

BJ, glad your plumbing bill wasn't worse.

The chances of me moving are probably slim to none. Looking at houses is my current hobby. An apartment or condo would be what I need but as long as I have a dog that's not an option. I don't want to have to walk her every time she wants to go out and especially in the rain or at midnight.

Karen, I had an Aunt that lived in Huntington Beach. She was a nurse but I don't remember if she worked after she got married. I think my cousin still lives there but haven't seen him in 65 years. I get a Christmas card from his brother that lives in Northern California but no one has heard from Ronnie. I think Barry use to live in Redding but now lives in Arcata. I'm not that afraid of Hurricanes since we can usually see them coming for two weeks. I'm more concerned with tornados and lightening, not that I do much if a tornado is in the area. I have gone in the old house for several tornado warnings. I have a phobia about tall buildings and heights. I won't stay in over the second floor of a hotel. I don't know where that phobia came from since flying doesn't bother me. I don't like to fly but I have.

I finally got around to ordering a floor lamp from Home Depot. I can't read in bed without more light now.

Martha, are there townhomes around there? You usually have a small yard that you can fence in. My dad was deathly afraid of heights but loved to fly. He said it had to do with being attached to the ground or not.

I checked the trap and the food was gone. Even the paper plate was gone. That is a good sign if it was one of the kitties, but because the plate was gone, I am suspecting a raccoon got in there. I think I will put food in there in the early evenings and remove it before dark if it hasn't been eaten.

I called the Motel 6 to ask about early check-in. She said I would have to check back a day or two before the day I arrive to see if it "might be possible". If I can tho, there is a $20 early check-in fee! :o I think I will just cancel it and drive up that morning and drive home that night. I can leave the reception early enough to get home just before dark. Will have to wear something comfortable even if it isn't really fancy enough and refresh my makeup and hair in a bathroom at the venue. That will save me some money as well. Now I just need to get a wedding gift. (Judy, I checked for other motels in that area and they are a lot more money and still have the 3pm check-in times).

Just had lunch and watching golf.

BJ great news on the plumbing issue. I managed to go to Home Depot and pick up my bags of compost, manure, and potting soil. Good grief that stuff stinks, think it was the manure. It is hot out so I didnt go inside the store just came home to unload. Left the back hatch open to air out LOL So another trip is in order maybe tomorrow. Nothing I need today. Good thing it is less than a mile from me LOL

I also found some pull chains for the fan so I can reach and turn it off when needed guess they never got into a bag can't find them and not of the receipts at least I didn't pay for something that I didn't get....
