Happy Saturday, June 26

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Good Morning!

Postby Cudedog » Sat Jun 26, 2021 9:44 am

Well, where is everyone this morning?

LOL. I don't think I have EVER opened MC in GT. Heh.

What to talk about? Well, there is always the weather. Thanks to those who commiserated with me about my cancelled 4th July camping trip. As things would have it, the prediction on the day I was to leave here - tomorrow - went down to 106/108 or so from the original prediction of 112/113.

But I have no regrets - at least not many! - because now the prediction for tomorrow for my (now cancelled) Oregon destination is (ugh) 114! Will surely miss seeing, and being in, the mountains - but living in a metal box for a week with the a/c struggling, not so much.

Karen, thinking of you, and hope your a/c is in good repair.

Am thinking of selling my beloved trailer. . . last year was to be "the year" that I had planned to do some major traveling. . . we all know how last year went. . . :(

Am looking into a consignment place, would like to hear the pros/cons of those of you who might have sold their R/V this way. My tow vehicle - my van (my original camper) is still set up as a. . . camper, so if I want to go somewhere to adventure, I still can. But my trailer is, and always will be, a LOT more comfortable - but it is what it is. . .

Thanks, everyone, and the word for us west coasters: stay cool!

I've been refusing to get out of bed for an hour. Ty is still under the covers. How lazy we are! I have to get up now and get ready for work, etc. Ty will get up as soon as I say anything about going out lol.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Morning Beth and All, cloudy and humid. It’s summer, Saturday so I am staying home. :D No plans except to try new recipes and make the perfect piece of toast. It helps if you read the directions. Be safe

I was out watering the garden areas as I know I will not be outside later. Need to do a few things inside anyway. We are headed for record heat, and possibly being the hottest we have EVER had on record. Predicted 115° here for tomorrow. 104° today. We here in the Pacific northwest are not used to this kind of heat. I had my windows and doors opened for about 2 hours this morning then closed them all around 8. Pulled all the blinds and curtains, turned on the box fan, AC set at 75 and has not come on yet. It should be pretty comfortable in here I hope. I need to go to the store but will just have to dig thru the freezer and pantry and make do until Monday.

Bought 2 chairs for my bar and have to put them together today. Also need to vacuum and might shampoo my rugs then plop myself in my recliner and just veggie out.

Well, I had a post almost done and accidentally hit the power button instead of the backspace I was aiming for  .

Shirl, they have "container" or "patio" tomato plants that don't have so many stems and leaves on them. Maybe try those next year.

The heat up north is like what I have here! That is so hot and miserable! Things are so crazy right now all over the world. Now they are talking about a grasshopper plague across the western states! What's next??

Sheila, you are so lucky to have such a large, close-knit family! So many of us are not close to our families like that and rarely if ever see our family members. :(

It is humid here still. I hosed off some metal parts to a portable air conditioner that I am selling and let them sit in the sun to dry yesterday. After 3 hours, there was still lots of water sitting on them. Usually, that would have evaporated within a half hour. We usually don't get the humidity until August. But nothing "usual" about this summer.

Nothing much planned for today. Just do some cleaning up around here. Need to check up on the water bins for the cats outside. Lots of seeds coming off of the palm trees that land in it. Also caterpillars coming down as well from them! The landscape crew has been trimming the palm trees around the park but haven't gotten to this area yet and the trees here are so overgrown now! They never did scalp the lawns here yet either. They usually do that in early summer and then plant special grass seed that grows well in the heat. Not sure why they are so late with all that this year.

We need to hear from Lyn! Lyn, where are you? How are you doing???

Have a good day!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Hi all,

Warm here but not too bad - definitely not like the rest of you have. Possible rain in the forecast - hope we really get it.

Have been getting some work done on DD's car so DS can use it occassionally. She must have had an angel accompanying her back & forth between here & San Diego. It needed quite a bit of work & then someone stole the catalytic converter from it a couple of weeks ago, but this morning it passed it's smog test! Hooray! It was about time for a little good news on it. Now, if they can just fix it so it will start when its hot outside  , we'll have a good spare car to use.

Expecting a friend form KS to come this week. It'll be nice to have her - I hope she can stay a few days.

That's about it here. Just getting the spare room ready & cleaning up the rest of the place.
Enjoy your day & stay cool if you can.

Anne, you posted your post in the general room at the same time I posted mine in morning coffee. I've just moved yours over here and merged them. Funny.

Anne some of the best camping is coming up. Sept Oct Nov are the best months I think. Then I like to camp in the spring Apr May March and June can go either way. Kids are back in school so there are way more available places to go. Weather is cooler, often times a bit rainy but I dont mind that. I prefer to be home in the summer as I really hate crowds and I can busy myself around the house. Not to say I havent gone camping in the summer but I much prefer the months I mentioned.

So far I am remaining pretty comfy inside. I am lucky in this house because I dont really get any direct sun on the house sides except in the morning on the front. I thought my guest bedroom or kitchen dining area would get hot but nope. I do have my blinds and curtains drawn tho which really helps. My box fan is on medium keeping me very comfy. Guess we hit an official 105 today. Broke the record by 3 degrees. My back deck was 108 today and it was in the shade all day so the ambient air was a little warmer under the metal awning.

I do need to get my ceiling fans up as I know those would help quite a bit. But so far so good.

Martha, are you enjoying the chuck eye steaks? I often cook up a larger one or a couple of small ones on the stove in a frying pan. I like them medium rare, but I will eat one and refrigerate the other. The small ones are the right size to make a steak sandwich on a hamburger bun, which makes a quick meal.

I had a long post earlier today, but it got deleted. Basically, I was woken up this morning at 9 am with a phone call from the campground for that night telling me they had had 4" of rain and the sites were a muddy mess, so they wanted to know if I still wanted to come. Said it would even be hard to walk around, so I got up and found a state park in Indiana for tonight. Luckily, the state park which had originally been full, not had 20% empty spaces because who wants to go camping in a downpour, which was what was predicted. (Nothing like having to find a campsite on a Saturday night!)) It had rained all over the Midwest the night before, so i decided to pick out a handicap spot which was paved. Left Davenport and raced all day to beat the nasty storm to this place--made it to the check-in booth just as it caught me with a downpour!! Then I had to wait while the camp hosts and rangers got out chain saws and cut up trees that were down on the road in! Finally made it here and set up by 8:30 pm. Whew!

Oh, and I left out the two accidents that had I-80 just past Chicago completely blocked. I got off and took back roads to get here, constantly watching the storm behind me. Going to get some groceries tomorrow when I leave here, and then headed to the Fleetwood customer service parking lot for tomorrow night in Decatur, IN. It used to be gravel, but is now nicely paved, with electric hookups and water and dump station on the edge. Glad for the pavement because I was not looking forward to gravel and more water.

Anyway, very long and tiring drive. Amazing to go from the hot and dry west to the soggy and muggy east! Not sure which is worse, but it sure is green around here. Corn is about 3-4' high, which is very good for this time of year.

Anne, I was having breakfast in Lafayette this morning. It was a quaint little brunch restaurant. Enjoyed the company but the restaurant was noisy and being at a table with 7 women didn't help. Four of us are camping friends so don't know if everyone enjoys our talk of camping. Getting up at 6:00 doesn't agree with me. I had to come home and take a nap.

Lafayette needs to do something about the traffic on Saturday morning. It shouldn't take 15 minutes to get through an intersection. Idiots trying to make left turns block the intersections every light change so no one can move. I wasn't going to go to Sam's but it was easier to go to Sam's than try to make a left turn to get out of town. I got my membership renewed and didn't even try to shop.

I went to Kohl's looking for shorts. They haven't opened the dressing rooms up yet so I was not going to buy something I couldn't try on. I found two pair at T J Maxx. There were plenty of short shorts but not many bermuda shorts. i drove by a house I liked online. Liked the house but not the location. Who ever takes the pictures of houses sure know the right angle to take the picture from. The front yard is about as big as my carport.

Anne, I have about decided I don't want to camp when it's too hot or too cold. I'm glad we aren't having the temperatures you all have. It was 95 here. I told my sister we would go to the lake for the 4th. They have a big dinner on Saturday and I guess the fireworks will be on Saturday instead of Sunday. The best fireworks are when the 4th is on a Friday or Saturday. After that I haven't signed up for any of the campouts. There is a resort type campground near Lafayette with swimming pools that I usually go to once a year so my son and his girlfriend can go swimming. She is into the plays in Lafayette and those have just opened back up so she will be busy.

Catherine, car maintenance doesn't seem to be on young people's radar. And it seems like it's hard to get a vehicle repaired around here. My son's girlfriend's car had something leaking and the Ford dealer didn't want to work on that model of car and it's not that old. The dealer's just want to sell cars, not work on them. Knock on wood, I haven't had that problem with the Honda place yet.

Yes, Judy, I'm enjoying the Chuck Eye Steaks. They are the right size to cook in my little air fryer and they taste almost like they were grilled. I haven't tried to make a sandwich out of one. You are sure having problems with the weather. At least the campground called you about the rain. All they do here is cancel your reservation and send an email. Not something I would see if I was traveling.

Im with Karen, I like fall and spring camping. I just gotta get back into i. Early in the week they predicted 111° today. Them they downgraded tom105°. Only reached 98°. I'll take it.
We had a quiet day here. We had already planned to stay in expecting super hot.
I'll have to check to see if the PowWow is on for September. I enjoyed that last one with Karen, Anne, Sandi, and Laura and her Mom.

I would try to sell it by placing an ad locally before paying someone else to sell it. RV's are really in demand and have gone up in price. Mine sold for more than I paid for it about 4 years ago with just a sign in the window while it was at the RV repair shop.
