Sunshine Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunshine Saturday

Postby Colliemom » Sat Jun 19, 2021 7:20 am

Morning on this beautiful sunny Saturday. Perfect weather here right now. Two bit warm days, but now cooling off into the 70’s which are norm for this time of year. From what I saw of the long-term weather, it looks like the hot weather out west is moving east. But there is also some cool air coming down from the north and the UP and northern part of Michigan is going to stay in the cool air. No complaints here. But we desperately need rain in this area. It keeps going north or south of us and we have not had any measurable rainfall here since before Memorial Day weekend, so things are very dry. Big concern for the farmers.

I’m sitting here waiting for a tree removal guy to get here. Neighbor across the way I had a large section of a tree come down in her yard on Thursday and since she lives downstate and wants to put this place up for sale, I called her and told her what had happened. So I am acting as a go-between for her and the tree company. He’s coming out this morning to get her an e for cutting up and removing it. He’s done work for myself and a couple of neighbors around here so I know them. Once that is over then I am going to resume my deck project that I am doing and stopped, because of the weather being too hot to work out there. It’s in the shade in the morning but by noon it’s in the sun.

But I did wash the front of my garage yesterday morning and finally got my wall decoration up there. An old paint ladder that I put some metal gnomes and couple of my yard birds I made earlier this spring. Still a work in progress as I want to add a few more fake flowers.

Speaking of computers, I am having a fight with mine. Won’t let me log in despite my changing my Microsoft password more than once. I don’t use it much, because I use my IPad all the time. But I need it for printing as despite a mile long list list, of printers that are compatible to IPad, mine is not one of them   . So, I will figure out computer figured out eventually. I don’t find much anyway so I’m not in a big hurry to do it. But I do need to do it so if I do need it I have it..

So I had better get off of this thing in case he comes because he should be here between eight and nine he said. Hope you all have a nice day out there. Stay cool those of you in the hot weather and those of you who are getting too much rain I wish you could send it this

Good morning Sue and all!

Sue, I love your house decoration!

Judy, congratulations on your retirement! Anita, I really like your car, especially the color!

Today is our last Saturday in FL as we're leaving Friday morning to start heading north. Once we get back to MD, we'll be closing one phase of our lives as we start emptying our house and bring lots of things back for our casita. Enjoy the weekend!

Nice cool morning so far. Only 56. Getting hot this afternoon tho. Not as hot as so many of you thank goodness. I have all my windows and doors open and will close up around 10. Then the house stays fairly cool until about 3 or 4 and the air kicks on. I keep mine set at around 74 or 75° and also have a box fan to move the air around and that seems to work well.

Leftover salmon patties for dinner tonight. Since I am leaving on Tuesday for Medford I dont want to have too much left in my fridge. So will be eating up leftovers and will probably pick up something for lunch or dinner tomorrow. There is a new Spicy Terriyaki place that I want to try so will get some takeout from there hopefully.

Going to Home Depot today to get some more potting soil. I have some flowers on my list also but wont buy them until I return on Friday as it is going to be super hot here for the rest of this week and I want to be here to water them.

Time for breakfast, waffle and bacon, sounds good to me today.

Good morning -

Sue, I like your garage hanging! I would love to go get pots and plants for the patio, but they still haven't finished the landscaping so there's dirt! They say it will be soon. B'eth, I hear you on the weight. I got out my Fitbit because I'm now getting a lot of steps without having my phone on me. We still have to reserve a time for the fitness room, but I have been on the go. Soon. Irmi, you have a chore ahead of you, but the end result will be so satisfying.

Stayed home Thursday and accomplished a bit. 2nd time package has been left in the locked postal bin and again the key doesn't work! I called Thursday and nothing so far. Package to come today, but has vacuum cleaner so doubt they'll leave it. Amazon may be losing my business for using postal service. Yesterday I took my daughter in to sign for title on car and then went to Cle Elum with Dan. Former neighbor had some of his things. Dog greeted us but no answer at the door (we were a little early), but Dan said I needed to see the view from the back deck. We went back there and all of a sudden there was a voice. Guy was sitting in his hot tub! :) Stopped at another neighbor's estate sale and then Mexican lunch in Roslyn (tv show Northern Exposure was filmed there). He's leaving Monday and it's time - we've been eating out too much! He has been an unexpected blessing with all the vehicle sales and purchase.

Time to get busy - enjoy your day!

Afternoon All, cloudy day on the shore. Got up early, dressed, planing a quick errand. Checked traffic cam and traffic is already the slow moving roll. Took off street clothes and once again comfortable. Lol. Sue, a unique project. Many talented women on this site. Anita, I have Amazon deliveries sent to a friends porch. I have to use a fob to go through two doors to package room put in my code, root through through every package for 2nd floor of three buildings. Does your daughter live far from you if so easier to ride to her porch. Think all deliveries are late because of employment issues. Finches are eating my tiny tomato’s. I didn’t have this many problems with an acre of land. Now I need a clothe cover for the $#&* plant. Martha, hope you are ok. Karen, thanks for the reminder, having salmon cakes with roasted cauliflower in toaster oven. Tried air fryer cauliflower, did not like it. You say patties, I say cakes. Think it might be because of my Virginia farmer relatives. Lol Be safe

Sue, your ladder is very cute.

The weather guys really missed the prediction for my area. I didn't get a drop of rain. Mississippi, Alabama and Florida are getting the storm. It is stronger than they thought it was going to be. I'm just glad it didn't come here. There were so many people on Facebook talking about cancelling camping reservations. Now the ones in Louisiana are sorry if they cancelled.

Shirl, you are sure having problems with your small garden. I went to Lowe's yesterday to see if they had a watering can and they were out. There was a rolling shelf with Lime and Lemon trees. The plants looked like they were in good shape but I would think it's a little late to be planting trees. I thought about buying a couple and then though about how much work is involved in the winter to keep them alive.

My son called me to let me know that his arm feels like someone punched him after his shot and he feels like he is getting over the flu. Sissy! I just hope his skin doesn't break out or I will never hear the end of it.

Guess I better go water my plants since it doesn't look like I am going to get any rain. If it wasn't already 90 I would go fishing.

Hi ladies~~~ Been a while since I checked in, probably at Rabbits Rollcall. :? I've been hanging around the Benton Harbor/St Joe area of Michigan and was able to catch up with a friend from workk twice this week, also got up to Grand Rapids to the Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. Lots of walking, so I only wandered around the sculpture park area. Depending on mileage, I may go back to check out the rest. I'm here until Tuesday when I head to Port Huron for 9 days. I plan on just sitting and watching freighters, so far anyway.

Love the ladder Sue. Did you order the gnomes from my friend in Minnesota? He does great custom work too.

Congrats on retirement Judy. I can't believe you've gone this long without some type of surge protector. I don't have a fancy hardwired one, but it is Progressive. I've also had the cheaper (?) ones from CW as a spare, and one of those saved me from a surge. It was fried and also needed a new electric cord too, but I keep a spare cord also.

Can't remember what else I've been reading. That's it from here. Been nice weather with a bit of showers yesterday and today. Take care ladies. Have fun and stay safe.

Good morning/afternoon all. I'm hopeful for slightly cooler temps as the 9:30 temp today was only 93°, about 7° cooler than same time yesterday. And the drought goes on! If that 7° difference holds then we may only reach 104°! Oh goody! Don't plan on going out if I don't absolutely have to. Stay in and AC on!
I think my liking Apple began when Mel and I used to attend meetings of the Reno computer club where new things coming were discussed. Apple had been founded in 76, the year we were married. By 82, Mel had bought his first home computer, an Epson QX10 , which is still carefully packed away in my basement. Maybe when I come across it, I'll try to sell it. Microsoft replaced our previous operating system (MS-DOS i think) eventually and we have kept going since then. But I was always interested in what I heard about Apple. When the iPad One came out in April 2010, I knew I wanted one, even though Mel kept saying you won't like it! I wanted to wait a few months to see how the whole iPad business rolled out. In September 2010, I ignored Mel and bought the iPad One! I really have never looked back. I think one reason is Mel. He did all our compuypter maintenance and upkeep and being from a Navy Security group background, tended to lock stuff down so tight, i could not do what i wanted to do, so he was constantly having to tweak. He was not an Apple guy so that kept him away from my ipad, so I knew i was onto something! So it started with usimg Apple so Mel didnt lock my stuff and spend so much time tweaking my devices and i found i just liked Apple so am very happy sticking with it. Son, Chris, has learned how to help witn stuff like getting my new Apple devices up and running and I let him tweak and update the MSI to his hearts content ( he has same model). The way Apppe operates just works for me, I do have the nice MSI laptop, but barely use it. I strongly dislike windows 10. I find it difficult to navigate. Each new Apple device, once my data is transferred I'm immediately familiar and off and running. I treat my iPad 2016 Pro like a laptop and do almost everything on it. The only thing I haven't done is taxes because all my archives of our taxes going back over a decade are on the Microsoft laptop so different format and easier to keep them there. On the iPad I write letters, fill out and sign forms, print what i need and read email and my social media. I had a printer that was at least ten years old, when Mel died. Ran fine as long as it was only connected to my laptop. So, if Mel needed dozens of pages of insulin pump, data printed to take to the VA, he had to download to a card or CD and bring out to my laptop where I had to bring it up then print it all. I wanted a wireless connected printer but Mel kept saying your old one still works.( I will say, Mel's being a skinflint balanced me and is why partially that I'm very secure finaicially now , so there is that). It was one of those things i didn't fight because it wasn't that annoying. Within a week of Mel's death , I said to Chris, I want a printer we can both connect to and I can print from iPad. So we retired my old printer and have both liked having the Epson printer which we easly communicate with from every device we each own from laptops to phones and tablets and from even the front porch! . I got rid of Mel's old printers, almost 20 of them! he had a laser jet or two, 3-4 very old fax printers, and so many more. What a relief the day the city hauled them all away to recycle! My philosophy on computers and operating systems is, everyone should have what works for hem and I'm glad there are options.
My younger son and family are in Florida this week for certification his wife needed to update. I think right now they are in Orlando area until Tuesday night when they fly home to MN. He was the only one in his family who had flown before and I guess I'll hear from Grandaughter about all of it when they get home. He has said they have had rain, but at least we're missing the near 100° in MN!
Well I better get going here. I should be able to accomplish something without trips out distracting me! Have a good rest of weekend.

I am having internet issues with both my laptop and cell phone since yesterday. Took my laptop to the Geek Squad this morning at Best Buy. It worked fine there. Went home and neither worked again. Now I am at a neigbors house to get online and get some things done. I think I have a ghost hacker in my house!  If it was just my laptop, I would blame my internet service, but it is also my cell phone. So weird! I am just glad nothing is actually wrong with my laptop because I can't afford to buy a new one right now.

Off to check on other internet things before I go home.

Thank you for the discussion about printing from an iPad. I’ve had a couple iPads, the first when the iPad was first introduced as Velda mentioned in April 2010. Until today, I never knew I could print from the iPad. I’m obviously not the best when it comes to computers, so am happy to learn this. Before I would always go to my computer to print.

It has been a crazy day so far! I put ads up on my community's FB page and on CL to sell my inflatable kayak, the kayak roof rack I got to haul my hard-sided kayak, and my tent. Got a FB message from a gal who lives at my park wanting the kayak and roof rack. We started messaging and then I couldn't get back on-line. When I was at my neighbors house, I finally read her message which said she was unable to get thru on my phone so she left her phone number. Well I called her and got a message that that couldn't go thru. So I wrote down her name and looked up which space she lives at (they own two places here). Drove to both and both are closed up for the summer! So now I am at Starbucks to use their internet. I messaged her on FB again. She said they are snowbirds and not here right now but she will mail a check and have me leave the kayak and roof rack with a neighbor of theirs. So much craziness!!

So I haven't gotten anything else done yet that I wanted to do today, and have been running around all over in 120+ heat!! I guess yesterday, Palm Springs got to 123* tying a record. And this is only June! It was over 100* this morning at 7am!.

I am heading back home. I think I have worn out my welcome here! Will probably have to come back tomorrow morning to check emails, etc. I may have to get a new phone tho if I can even get calls in or out. Sure don't know what the problem could be with my laptop either. I think I will call Spectrum that I have my wifi with and see if they can figure it out.

Call Spectrum tech support. They can walk you thru trouble shooting on the phone and can check it from their end. Then if it doesnt work they will give you a new modem and router. I bought my own router but use their modem of course. So it could be either your Modem, or your Router, or something in your line.

Maybe you need to call from somewhere else if your phone isnt working??? Are you using wifi calling when at home???

Shirl, until I moved into the apartment all of my packages went to my daughter. I began to feel a little guilty when I was continuously ordering. At least I got the notice and was able to pick up the large package while they were open this morning!

I was just informed it is to be 100+ next weekend. Guess going to Port Angeles on the coast will feel pretty good! :) Niece and kids are here from Hawaii - haven't heard if their Marine is with them. BFF is coming July 11 for a couple days. Another friend who I haven't seen in awhile will probably come shortly after that.

Already ordered the Progressive from Amazon to be sent to son's house. Yes, it is amazing what I can procrastinate about!!! Some things I do right away, but I can put things off for months and years, hence never bought a surge protector. (Did I mention I am also cheap?) I did get a tire minder and a new backup camera in the past year or so, however!

I had driven for two days, so made a reservation at this commercial campground for two nights to rest. This place, was well-rated, however, it is full of really old beat-up trailers and looks like a junk yard with stuff strewn about. Plus, the roads are dirt and the campsites are gravel with foot-high un-mown grass between them. Full hookups, but close-together sites, and obviously the place could use some maintenance. I should add that besides the falling apart old trailers, there were car parts and trailer parts strewn around and tucked under the trailers.

Luckily, I am going through Blue Beacon as I leave instead of before I arrived, because RV would be dusty again. I don't mind gravel campsites, but I really do like paved roadways so there are not clouds of dust. At least it was very quiet last night. Tomorrow and next four nights are a COE campground--always in good shape with paved roads and no dust.

Temps are better here--high of 84 today, which is nice. And AC is working OK, keeping my fingers crossed.

Judy, are you sure you aren't in Barstow? :o   I stayed at a place there that sounds like the same thing!
When I left Starbucks, I got in my car and I could not touch the steering wheel or the shift knob because they were so hot! (and I have a cloth cover on my steering wheel!). The digital screen for my clock and radio was blank. My little portable temperature gauge was also blank. That does that after it hits about 135* inside the car! Whew! Good thing I just had to drive a few blocks back home!

Well, I got home and my phone works and my laptop now works. I am wondering if my phone uses the Spectrum wifi instead of a satellite connection here at home? Anyways, I am a happy camper now!

I have been running around all day like a chicken...and the only thing I have eaten is a donut this morning. :o I guess I better find something for dinner!
