Kayaking on Lake Cowan

I have the Sea Eagle 340x kayak and have used it several times. It is extremely stable and very easy to get into and out of. It is slower and more work than a good touring kayak especially in windy situations but I love mine for certain conditions. I also have a 17' Seda Ikumma kevlar kayak which is not as stable and harder to get into and out of but it goes like a dream. Each have their uses and you need to determine how you want to use them and your storage available. The Sea Eagle goes in the back of my Honda C-RV easily whereas the Seda needs to be put up on top and it hangs out the back.

I like using the Sea Eagle for a day on a lake where I can wander around and stop in a pretty place and read a book or just relax. I can move around in the kayak while out on the water to reach the bag on the front where I have my snacks, water and a book. You would need to really work at it to tip it over. According to advertising, dog claws are not a problem.

I assume it's light enough for you to handle it alone when putting it in and out of the water, yes? Do you know how much it weighs? Will have to go online and check it out!

Hike, Thanks for the feed back from experience. Yes dog claws was a concern. I figured from reading about the other Sea Eagles that their profiles didn't work as well in windy situations. Just seemed like more surface to push around... Thanks again. Another puppy went to her forever home this weekend. I might have to use some puppy funds

Thanks for the info Hike. My intentions are not to compete in any races or do any whitewater kayaking. I just want to be able to lollygag out on the water and check out the habitat sort of thing. I doubt either of my dogs will ever go on with me. But, hopefully GD and I can get out there a bit.

The 340x says it is 42 lbs. I am not any kind of weight lifter and I can carry it down to the water after I inflate it with no problem. It has nice handles at each end and lots of times when moving it into the water or out I use them lifting just one end and it weighs very little that way. When it is not inflated, it is in a carrier that has long loops that go over my shoulder and it is easy to transport and put in the back of my car.
