Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Wake up and go Monday

Good Morning. Just opening up here. Take advantage of the imaginary chef and start your day with tasty nourishment. I will now take heed of the day's title and head to the grocery store and begin my adventures of the day. The dogs will need to adjust their needs to the pauses between rain showers.

Morning All, sunny, hot and humid forecast for today so lots of plant watering. Apartment living is a challenge and trying to keep up with technology is giving me a major headache. The new toaster oven instructions say “before use turn to highest temp for 15 minutes to burn off residue from factory.” It warned will smoke and smell unpleasant. Oh great I can hear the fire department banging on my door. Carried oven out to balcony, plug in to receptacle and watched in case it burst into flames. This oven is also convection which is something else to learn. Will occupy myself trying to make toast. Be safe

Sue, put down your saw and come chat. :D

Hot Monday

Postby Colliemom » Mon Jun 07, 2021 8:20 am

Good Morning Gals. Thought I had better chime in here. Been AWOL for a bit. Just call it busy. You all know the drill of getting ready to head out camping and getting things in order before you leave the S&B behind, so no further need for explanation there. Had a great time with everybody over Memorial Day weekend. Friends, their families and friends etc. whole campground was full of locals from same towns for the most part, which is usually the way it is on holiday weekends up there. So lots of meeting people, visiting etc. Friends 2 year old grandson kept them and mom and dad busy keeping an eye on him as you know how much energy and curiosity a 2 year old has. Plus their son and his wife had their 2 month old with them, but just out for the day visiting. I think, counting the kids and adults, there were probably 20 of us. Folks next to me had a birthday party for one of their kids and company with kids came to celebrate. They had a great time. We were treated to a performance by friends of my friends who are a small three person country band one afternoon and we also had some singing around the last campfire. So was really a fun time. Once I got home. It was catch up to the grass mowing, trimming, weeds and few other chores I wanted to get done before the heat wave moved in last weekend. Then Saturdsy night had spur of the moment overnight company who wanted to come up from downstdte to see a couple houses up for sale. So much for last week.

Needless to say, it is hot here. Temps are 15-20 degrees above normal. Broke a record high yesterday, 92 degrees. Normal highs are in the 70’s. Fortunately we have very little humidity which is nice. And mornings are warm, but nice. I’ve been able to leave my house open most of the dsy, till about mid afternoon and then put my portable AC on for a few hours. Critical thing has been lack of rain. Conditions are rated very extreme to extreme across the northern half of the State and we have been under Red Flag Fire warning all weekend. At least where I live, grass fire is more the threat than an all out wildfire due to the type of forests here being northern hardwoods more than pines. But others areas especially to my south and southeast are prone to bigger wildfires in the pines areas.

Trying to play catch-up in here and see many of you are dry and hot as well, but those in south are too wet. Anita, congrats on moving in and selling the camper. Judy congrats on the retirement decision. Beth, hope you don’t get too overworked this summer. I know how those crazy longer than normal hours go as I’ve been in both housekeeping and an assistant head housekeeper. O’Sharon, maybe you won’t get as much rain as predicted on your trip. Have fun. Shirl, been enjoying your tales of your garden. Velda, Ann, Karen, Tina and everyone else, enjoying your posts too. Nice to hear of things you have been doing, even if just the mundane day to day life stuff.

Need to get busy here, errands to run. Doing some craft projects in the basement, since too hot to work outside on them. Keep cool everyone and y’all have a nice day :)

On my way to work but quickly merged the three openers today. I think that's a first lol. I'll be back later.

I got the wake up and Monday part right but my GO needs some work. Just fixed breakfast, spinach and gouda cheese omelet, avocado and sliced tomato. Was super good. Got my laundry and sheets changed yesterday but then flaked out (cause I can LOL) So today have to vacuum and swiffer the floors. Sometimes I wonder how one single person (and 1 small dog) can mess up this house so quickly. I am not a fan of clutter yet I seem to allow it at times. So already decluttered the kitchen dining table and bar area.

Picked my first "fruits of labor" this morning. 1 small zucchini squash with several more coming on. Learned how to pollenate the squash and to tell the male from the female blossoms. Was pretty interesting as I never knew. I just stick em in the ground and wait for squash. So I am going to try that this morning. Also thinned out my tomato plants at the bottom for better air flow. This is my first time with container gardening of tomatoes. I struggle a bit with how much, how often to water. Since they are in big black tubs, in full sun it is hard to tell even sticking my finger down a couple of inches like instructed. SO, I bought a water meter to stick in the ground to tell me.............we shall see how this works out. I have tons of blossoms and several tomatoes coming on each plant. I have 6 tubs so we shall see. I figure each tomato will cost about $25 LOL LOL between the cost of the tomato plants, pots, the soil, the fertilizer, the tomato stands, water system, and now water meter they dang well better be good. Now next year I wont have to buy so much stuff. So the price should go down LOL

Karen, that's funny about your $25 tomatoes. I always thought the few tomatoes Harold grew were probably expensive. I don't think tomatoes are as good as they were when I was a kid. A slice of tomato on a sandwich was as big as the bread. A good old baloney and tomato sandwich would be good. I wonder how the dog, cats and I can make such a mess too. I ran the Roomba when Sugar was gone but now I need to use the big vacuum. The Roomba just mostly picks up the hair, which is a lot.

I have already been to town to get the legal papers copied. Now I need to write six letters. I'm not sure I remember how to write a real letter.

The campground we are going to this week has an upland area and low area. The campground posted that the low area is closed but they haven't cancelled our reservations yet. Then someone posted that it's the road that is closed, not the camp sites. The lady that is hosting said she will drive over there tomorrow and check before she cancelled the campout. I guess I won't know until it's time to leave if I'm going or not. If the campground cancels our reservation we get a full refund.

I thought about french toast all day yesterday. I almost made some for supper. lol This morning I browned a pound of sausage to use to make a dip. Then I made gravy with what was left in the skillet. Now I need to make biscuits to go with it. I don't really need to be eating any of that.

Off to find a sample business letter so I can get all my stuff in the mail.

My get up and go worked to get me to work. But died when I came home. Ty did get his good walk but otherwise I became a slug. I had the best intentions to go to the store for a few things. Nope, didn't happen. I could be doing laundry. Nope lol

Buying the Roku has not helped me. I find a movie or a TV series I never saw and start with season 1, episode 1 and go through them all if it entertains me. I was already doing that on my phone, but I watch way more movies with them on the TV. I laugh when I think I watched almost zero TV or movies for my first several years RVing. (Which is why I've never seen most TV series) and I've not gone to a movie in even more years. Then I saw that the Good Witch is back on Hallmark on Sunday nights so I subscribed to watch. I started watching that when it would be on cable when I'd be at my casita. I enjoy it and enjoyed seeing the episode last night. I'll have to find when they play seasons back to back and catch up. Things had happened I had no clue happened. I never was good at watching series because I never stop making plans for a TV show.

I'm rambling. And still thinking about French toast. And bacon.

I had tomato plants in a big tub on my patio next to my door, but it got full sun in the afternoon, so I ended up watering my plants every day. When the sun hits the side of a black tub, it gets hotter than the same plant would get if planted in the ground. And the tomatoes tasted wonderful, costly or not!!

(Corrected the singular "tomato." I really got a lot of tomatoes and my plants were about 6' tall so I had to do a lot of staking them up.)

I think it was my son that I was talking to the other day about hunting and how expensive that freezer full of meat becomes... sounds like if you figure in the cost of preparing and planting tomatoes that makes them expensive as well... but the taste of home grown is so much better... Martha I think the big tomatoes are oh sure was ready to say ... but it's gone one that my husband used to like ... I think they have hybrid out the flavor so perhaps getting those plants that are old school (heirloom) might have better flavor...
pretty lazy today have all those bins to put stuff into so I can put my clothes away but did I do it??? no way did water plants fix the chicken salad and deviled eggs and sanded on my memory box but it was so hot that I didn't do that for very long  really do need to work on it it's not in the way but is if that makes sense... and granddaughter will be taking herself off to school sooner than later... so I really need to tackle it...
I like that show Beth always have but for some reason my mom doesn't (she thinks it's too like a soap opera) so it comes on the old ones that Hallmark Mysteries has in the afternoon she will switch over to the other Hallmark today it was a movie that the first minute I knew I'd seen it several times and then what does mom do but fall asleep... sure being bored will do that... :? the other day was turned over to have a comedy not movie and I really don't do that type of tv shows I keep reminding myself that if I was home I wouldn't be watching tv anyway... doesn't help :?
making a couple of dish clothes for the great granddaughter have made a couple of hot pads now the dish clothes she has a toy kitchen that she loves...
and did a couple of word search those can take up a lot of time
well that is the mundane for today...
Beth tell me how you can watch tv on a hot spot without going into slow down time... we have unlimited between the 4 of us and while in Q I managed to put us there as I was doing some streaming (church, a story telling time 2 times a week, and a couple of you tube things ) and some pandora so not even anything like Blue Bloods or CSI ect which I would like to watch mom doesn't like them either...I do want to figure out something so I have tv in the fall in the mean time I will over dose on Hallmark
you all take care
Oh Question how do you toast flour? and has anyway done a method in making bread where you cook the flour in something first then add it to the other ingredients wish I remembered I saved it on my FB Tangzhong method take 1/2 C milk and 3 T. bread flour combine in a saucepan whisk until no lumps cook until thickened paste-like and the spoon or spatula leaves lines on the bottom of the pan put that in the bowl of a stand mixer add in cold milk then the flour and then the rest of the ingredients mix then knead it says that the Tangzhong will warm up the cold milk ... different enough that I want to try it but wondering if anyone has
well enough of my meanderings and complaining

Sheila, so far with my current plan I've never been throttled. I know it can slow down after however much but it hasn't. It might get me one of these days. And I can't imagine how much I've been using! My old plan was unlimited but limited when using my phone as a hot spot. This one is still unlimited as a hot spot, too. If and when i get throttled I'll have to suck it up for the rest of that month lol

I only have 2 or 3 rooms to clean tomorrow so should be easy. Maybe I'll actually do laundry or go to the store or maybe both. Haha, I'm not counting on it lol.

Martha, I hope if it's necessary the cg makes the decision about closing sooner rather than last minute.

Good evening gals.

Sue, glad you had a nice time camping! That is what it is all about!

Karen, I have been learning about how to pollinate gourds too and it is probably similar to squash since they are related. Not that I plan to grow them, but it is still interesting to learn about.

Martha, I hope you get to go camping. No fun getting everything ready and then not being able to go.

Judy, you only got one tomato from your plants? I didn't get any off mine this year. Last year I had pretty good luck with my cherry tomato plant. May try that again this fall. Plants do dry out quickly in pots versus being in the ground. It is really hard here with the heat and all the high winds. Really dries everything out quickly! Nothing like a good fresh, homegrown tomato tho!

I got a call about the activities assistant job here at the park. I met with the park's GM for an interview this afternoon. We had a nice conversation and as fun as the job sounds, it won't be a good fit for me. First of all, it doesn't start until October. Then it is 8-4 Mon-Fri so I would not be able to participate in any daytime activities during the week including putters golf. That is one of the reasons I moved here is because of all the activities going on, so I wouldn't want to miss out on all that.

I have tomorrow off. Need to make some phone calls and get to my tax stuff. Also want to go to Home Depot to make the cat door for Lola. She spends a lot of time out on the porch now. The heat must feel good on her old bones!

Speaking of cats, I better go fill the cat dish and water bowl outside before heading to bed. Another really windy night tonight!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
