Traffic Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Traffic Saturday

Postby Shirlv » Sat Jun 05, 2021 9:10 am

Morning All, sunny, hot and humid. Been feeling yuck and not sure if it’s mental or physical. So just hunker down and wait for it to pass. Feel better today?? Still not happy with the lazy boy recliner. Thinking I made the wrong choice but not sure how it could have been different. Things are not made as well as in the past. It is what it is. Toaster oven died and I use it every day. Another dilemma, seems making decisions are harder as I age. Finally ordered today and it will be here tomorrow. Called my brother and he didn’t sound too chipper either. I suggested going to Olive Garden next week and that seemed to help both of us. Find something fun to do and be safe.

Good morning, Shirl and all!

Sorry you are having one of those days, Shirl. My power Lazy Boy isn't a recliner per se but I'm adjusting to having to wait for the foot rest to lower. :D Also, a shocker to take a shower and realize the towel is clear across the room and not within arm's reach.

Truck and camper are both sold! I have the truck here for final unloading today. The upper 90s temps did not help, especially with getting camper cleaned out - didn't know the guy wanted it that day! 2 neighbor guys were extremely appreciated. Weather is cooler. I headed to get the truck yesterday and it was such a nice day for a ride, park neighbor and I took off in the Sling. A new to me road along a river - rivers are all running very high right now. I'll unload the truck this morning. Monica and I have pre-wedding mani-pedi appts this afternoon. Unfortunately, for her the wedding isn't until next week, but it was the best we could do.

Haven't had much time to absorb all the posts - hoping to catch up tomorrow. Did see Sandi is showing more amazing talent!

Have a good day

Shirl hope your "clouds" clear soon. Reading Anne Lamott ramblings about getting older, aging the the experiences we have already weathered do give us the insight of having weathered ups and downs before if we just keep moving. Still doesn't make it any more fun.

I also think about all the research I sometimes do now when replacing things or purchasing new items. I decided it was easier to make decisions in the past because we didn't have as many options to choose from. My best example is a brief look at the toothpaste aisle. I mean, it was either Crest or Colgate?

If I can convince myself I may head off to Cincinnati's Summer Fair. It has been years since I have gone and there is one particular artist whose work I am interested in checking.

Either way I have more than enough to keep me busy.

(Great news on the camper and the truck!)

Shirl, maybe contact lazy boy directly and see if they can help. Maybe they can suggest a different chair or another type of tune-up. It's really frustrating and probably isn't helping your mood. That said, I totally agree about trying to find people or things that can help. I keep getting in the doldrums because I really shouldn't hike anymore. So am trying to find other ways to enjoy. I have 2 days off in a row again this week and think I will go boondock overnight at least one night. Away from everyone. In the forest. Ty and I can still walk. I will make my decision based on the weather in a couple days.

Oh my gosh, Tina, I always think I have too much time on my hands as I research like crazy over the littlest things. Toothpaste really brings it in perspective!

Time to walk Ty and then head to work. I think my next few days will be easy. I'll add in doing other work to get my hours I want for an acceptable paycheck lol

I'm with you Shirl,I can't decide whether my yucky feelings are due to mental or physical issues. I have so much pain from this trigeminal neuralgia and I'm so frustrated at trying to get help I guess it is a bit of both! The health care here keeps getting worse. Now most of the time you are on hold for a long time and finally a recording will ask you to leave a message and they will return your call or they only give you the option to leave your name and number. I left a message early Friday morning with a neurologist and so far no return call. Last time I called my GP and did talk to someone it was a week before I had a return call. I have an appointment with a new GP next Friday so will see how that goes. I Googled what to expect from an annual physical and found the following at one site. My current doctor must have read this! He has only once looked briefly inside my mouth, has never touched my throat, abdomen or any other body part plus he has never been in the office with me more than 5 minutes. When he ‘listens' to my heart/lungs he never asks me to take a deep breath, he moves the stethoscope so fast I doubt he hears more than one heart beat.

https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/ann ... aminations
This is the last paragraph.

"The annual physical exam is beloved by many people and their doctors. But studies show that the actual exam isn't very helpful in discovering problems and may lead to unnecessary tests.
Leading doctors and medical groups have called the annual physical exam "not necessary" in generally healthy people."

Anita so happy you sold your truck and camper and for the good neighbors who helped.

Good Morning to All - Another HOT day here in Vegas, the AC came on at 7:30 a.m. Have all the ceiling fans running and doors closed already. Our thermostat is set at 82 - hot for me, but any degree below that and Bill freezes. In the morning I have the AC vent in the sewing room open, but by afternoon it is shut down so Bill has a warm room to go to.
any way - I saw this on line and just liked it so thought I'd share it.

Traffic Saturday

Postby Shirlv » Sat Jun 05, 2021 10:52 am

Along with attention deficit, decision deficit Iam more cynical. The young furniture repairman laid on the floor and looked underneath the chair with his flashlight, didn’t do anything just looked. He went through his routine but actually did nothing? If you take care of a 7 room house and an acre of ground you do learn a few things thus the cynicism. :D He explained the new safety features, a cog wheel that prevents the footrest from falling on a child that has crawled underneath. Of course it makes noise. I would think all recliners now have that feature. Would be better if I wasn’t concerned about rattling walls in the apartment below. The rocker recliner is beautiful, very comfy so I have a stand alone foot rest from another chair which matches that I will use. New chair will recline some without using the side lever and the stand alone foot rest will do. Now if you want to say, geeezzz Shirl get over yourself I understand. I do feel better though.
Stay tuned for the tale of woe about the new improved toaster oven that comes tomorrow. Think this might be a two glass wine night. Anita glad you have moved, make sure to stop by the liquor store.

OMG instead of post a reply I started a new topic. Didn’t feel like typing again so here it is. Maybe three glasses of wine to night.

Hi all,

Well, I didn't get my full week off grandma duty. They asked if I could take Jordi so they could unpack & clean everything yesterday. He took a 3-hour nap so I still got some other stuff done. They had a great time but are all exhausted. Plus, they cleaned & shined up my minivan so it almost looks new! Using it did make them realize they want something with the flexibility & space of a minivan without getting a minivan.

I suffer from analysis-paralysis too. I can research something to death - always wanting to get the best item for my $$. Recently purchased a cordless stick vacuum - good price & good reviews, but I'm still assessing whether I like it or not. Spent hours looking for the best inexpensive tires for my daughters car last week. In the end, found that Walmart had rolled back the price on some decent ones so will get those put on next Saturday.

DD messaged me around midnight about a terrible looking spider she found in their bed. She had felt a pinprick on her leg during the night & brushed it off but found the culprit this morning. Nasty looking thing. She doesn't have any signs of a bite or problem on her leg so it might not have really bitten her but at least she has a good picture if she experiences any issues later on. I told her they should spray some stuff around the perimeter of their place & then leave for a while to make sure the thing doesn't have a family or friends there.

Shirl, hope you can get either your LaxyBoy tuned up better or a different one that is comfy for you. They aren't cheap so keep at it until you like what you have.
Beth, bummer on not being able to hike as much anymore. Hope you find nice walking paths that you & Ty will enjoy.
Anne, I really like that 'Let Yourself Rest' - it's so hard after we've worked so hard all of our lives to know how to slow down & enjoy some idleness into our lives. Thanks for posting that.

Take care, everyone.

Haha, and I had to look twice because you gave it the same name so I thought I was seeing things. I've merged them.

Carol, great quote. I just read that recently and meant to save it.

Shirl, would it be better returning the chair and maybe getting something like a rocker/recliner with ottoman like for a babies room. My sister has two in her TV room and I fell in love when there last fall. It's what I'll eventually replace my recliner with. Would be sooner if I was staying at my casita more.

Beth, I already have a chair like you described and will use that ottoman. It is a very nice chair but sits too low. Really gets on my nerves having to make adjustments for a body that no longer does what I ask. My day is better, doing lots of household chores. Must be my quarter year burst of energy. :D Better mood might be attributed to lunch with brother on Tuesday and #3 granddaughter bring crab cakes for lunch on Friday. Note to self, you can sit around being miserable or find something fun to do.

Most things are too high for me. Maybe that's why the chair at my sisters was so comfie and perfect. And I predict my shortness won't change, except possibility I'll get even shorter!

The doctor comments do make me feel very fortunate. I sent a message through my MyChart to my gastro doctor late yesterday afternoon and found a reply on MyChart waiting for me this morning. (It had to do with a medication, etc.) But he is also the one that would call 7-8 pm in the evening when I was still very ill and lying around on the couch and answer a question or check in on me. And we have talked about Nurse Practitioners before but when I made an appointment back in late April/May for a routine recheck on blood work the office called back to say that Heather wanted me to come in a little earlier since she wanted to have more time to go over all the issues over the winter some of which she had been able to follow with access to MyChart. No matter when I go in (since I don't go in all that often) she does a quick neurological assessment along with all the nose, ears, eyes, heart, lung sort of thing. Given my age I appreciate her attention to minor changes that she might notice even before I do. And I never feel rushed. The neurologist she referred me to is one her daughter sees and he shared that he thought highly of her clinical skills, so much so that he had tried to get her to join his practice.

Beth and I hunt the consignment stores for couches and chairs that fit my long legs...though overall I have already shrunk......

Just got home from work. Actually I stopped after work at the mall and tried to find some black pants at JC Penney but didn't find anything. I want something that is very lightweight and loose. I don't do well with leggings. They feel too tight and hot on me.

Stopped at the Cinnabon store there and got some minis to take home.

Another hot day. It was hot inside work and I was sweating a lot this morning. We were busy and I was doing haircuts and my face was really sweating! I had to go wipe it off in between haircuts and my mask was wet. Part of it was nerves I think but it was also warm in there. They have ceiling fans but the one near my station doesn't work.

I did about 6 haircuts today and 2 shampoo/massages (MVP service). The first MVP was on a guy who had never been there before, so I figured if I did it wrong, he wouldn't know! I did forget to turn on the massage chair for him. I am finding there are things that are a bit uncomfortable with my shoulder but that might get better with PT.

The girls there are not very friendly so far. They answer my questions but that is about it. I like to think of co-workers as "family" after awhile as we get to know each other. Not sure that will happen here. I just keep thinking I have a year and a half left until I retire!

I found an ad on CL for an activities assistant here at my community. I filled out the on-line application and wrote up a new resume for it last night. I am not sure I am totally qualified for it but it might be a fun job if I was to get an offer. Want to keep my options open.

Still trying to pay my property tax bill on-line but their site is just as confusing as the bill I got. I am stuck on one screen and can't get any further than that. I may have to just do it the old fashioned way and mail it in. I will call them first and see what the problem is with their website (or me?).

I am off tomorrow. Need to wash my two work shirts and one pair of pants. I guess their Sport Clip shirts are kind of pricey so I think I will pick up a couple more black ones at WM and then maybe just order one or two from SC's.

Got a headache so I will take something for it and lay down for a bit.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

hate it when I loose the post but fortunately hadn't mention much but before I try to remember
so relate to the toothpaste aisle....even if it was just colegate or crest all of those different varieties within the brands I always get so confused trying to remember what I use  and then they come up with something new that makes you wonder if you should try it.... :?
I am not liking mom's couch it's deep so hard to sit in it and have feet on floor but that is the way it goes...
a somewhat lazy day today got done what I intended to do isn't that progress???
there is such a difference between me and my sister in law they popped in for a moment mentioned how hot it was inside and then it dawned on us that the fan could be turned on so mom gets up to turn on the fan seriously it's only 4 -6 feet from where mom's chair is I tend to let her do what she can so mom got up to turn on the fan not taking her walker with her.... sil jumped on her about it and yes she could have fallen but I have talked with mom about some things and she only replies that she doesn't fall easily and one could fall standing up from the chair... I know that they would have a fit if they knew that she has been on a step stool I didn't see it but know that is the ONLY way she could have put the mugs on the 2nd shelf she is less than 5 ft now I would think... so yes Beth one tends to get shorter as one ages.... and some of us can't afford that at all
shower time need to see if she will allow help I assume that she will need her hair washed
shower is over she needed help actually ... and had to set on the walker a few...been somewhat concerned sleeping lots and just seems more worn out and my brother said she was more alive here than at their house  couldn't prove it by me
well you all have a good day
Ann saw that on your blog the other day it's so good
and Barbie I'd be tempted to go to that shop just for the massage sounds heavenly ... need to get an appointment with the guy he does a head massage so enjoy it and it's been over a year since I had my hair cut so in need of it

Well, this afternoon I smelled fire and wondered who was burning with the fire ban. No one. I had to look to the sky to see the smoke. A fire about 15 miles from me. As of 6 pm 400 acres burning. My headache is really bad. So my rig is closed up tight to keep it out when this would be a perfect night for open windows otherwise. Fingers crossed they get control over night while the winds are calm. Winds will pick up late tomorrow morning. As of the 6 pm report they don't have a cause.

On another note I won't plan to go away on my days off this week... That would take me close to or into the fire area. Even if it's controlled it would be stupid to go into the area.

Sheila, I'm glad your mom is trying to keep some independence. But it doesn't always make sense, I know.

Barbie, for a few years I went to a salon where a massage was included with every style/cut. Oh did I appreciate that. I know I tipped better. At the time it wasn't more expensive than the average salon, just an added service this one included. They had such loyal customers that it was hard for new people to get an appt.
