Monday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Monday

Good money all. What a difference a day makes! Yesterday in the 80’s and today 60’s with maybe rain. But all is not lost since it’s supposed to be in the 80’s again tomorrow. I like that better! Beth, thank you for the suggestion for doggie steps. My biggest problem is also the depth of the steps. So many of them are designed more for smaller dogs and not for big dogs. At least that’s been my problem with Rascal. He misses a couple of steps on so many of them. Hard to explain but I will certainly check out the one you mentioned. I had dinner with my son’s family last night and got to enjoy their nice porch. First cookout of the season! I picked up my youngest gs from his moms house and he told me he had gotten his first vaccine on Friday. Not sure what changed his mind but we were all happy he did it. He was holding out since he actually had COVID and figured he didn’t need it. Luckily a mild case. So far as I know only 2 grands have said no to the shot. And they are both adults not living at home. Other than a trip to the store today I have no real plans. Plenty to do but not much energy to do it! One of those days. I have a few phone calls to make so today might b a good day to do that since I don’t want to be outside working! That’s about it for me today. Hope you all have a good day and as always, be safe.

Got woken up this morning with a call from some lady with a heavy Indian accent who wanted to verify that I had recently received my new Medicard. The call was garbled and with her accent, I ended up yelling to be understood and asking her to repeat stuff. She ignored my questions about where she was calling from (I thought doctor's office at first) but when she wanted me to read the number on the card to her, I said "No, Way!" and hung up. That put me in a bad mood to start the day, to say the least.

Got my mail from my son so am going through responses to some of it. I need to get my Medicare notices sent electronically, because those constituted a lot of the mail!!

Got a Zoom appointment today from my Eugene, OR, doctor and will get results of my blood tests plus the COVID antigen test I had a couple of weeks ago. Will find out if the vaccine took. Both my sons and their wives have been vaccinated, along with the Napa grandkids who are 14 and 16! Yea. I went to their house on Saturday for a cookout with friends with two teens and my DIL's father and his wife. EVERYONE had been vaccinated, even kids, which was fantastic.

I need to find out status of younger grandkids in Ohio. That son and his wife are vaccinated, and oldest kid is 15, while younger two are 14 and 12, so they should be eligible now.

Good afternoon gals! :D

This morning I looked in the folder I got from my manager with my doctors letters about not being able to work, etc.
The one I really wanted that says I can no longer do perms and styles, was not in there. I texted the manager and told her that one was missing and to check my work file again. She texted back that the ones she gave me were the only ones in my file. I was not happy to hear that. I was going to my doctor's office today anyways to get the letter about only being able to work up to 24 hours per week and decided to see if I could get a copy of it from them. So that is what I did. Later, I talked to Kat, who was my manager back when I got that letter a year ago and she said she remembers getting it and faxing copies of it (as required) to the GM and owners and that it should be in my file. I am sure wondering why it is missing from my file  .

After the doctor's office, I decided to go into downtown Palm Springs for some retail therapy and enjoy a couple hours shopping and get my mind off of this stuff for a bit. I refrained from buying much since I am very short of money right now but I did buy some English toffee at a wonderful toffee shop. Also bought a small piece of fudge and a t-shirt that was on a clearance rack. I saw a darling dress that would be perfect for the wedding of a former co-worker in August, but it was $65 so I had to pass on that. I have a couple dresses in my closet that I can pick from for that. It sure was cute tho! Such a fun town to wander thru. I would have liked to have stopped for lunch there but the restaurants are very expensive so I will just find something at home to eat.

No wind today but 97* out and will stay around 100* all week and then cool off next weekend. So no more open windows for now.

My knee is much better today. It started feeling a little achy while I was driving so I readjusted my seat and it went away. So I think it is some nerve issue starting in my hip or leg.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Other than Curves and my pest control by to try to bait some ants, it's been quiet here.it is 88° so temps on rise.
I saw a story/a special report on Asian culture in CA, in which they reviewed a book by an Asian writer. Said it was about a girl about my granddaughters age who helped her parents by translating at the front desk of their tiny motel. Wrote Grandaughter about it and she was interested, so, I sent her a copy via amazon and will get it on kindle and plan is to both read then talk about the book. She has read to me before, but I like reading then discussing. It might turn out to be a fun weekly video chat thing for us!
Now to figure out soon what grandson, turning 13, wants for his birthday in July! She was easy as I bought her art supplies as she loves to water color. Him, not as easy. Yes could send $$ but I'd like to get him something more personal he wants.
Next few days I have visit with my investment guy, PT twice and Curves twice. That should keep me busy.
Getting terribly drier day by day here. Could be bad fire season ahead.
Hope you are all having a great day!

Velda, that sounds like an interesting book! The school district is having personnel learn sign language this summer so my daughter will be learning. Judy, I just saw today with Verizon you can have unknown callers sent directly to voice mail without the phone ringing.

Had 'Christmas' at the kids' yesterday with all my orders that came in this last week. :) Was hoping to stay out their June 12 wedding plans until after move, but a few things came up that I could take care of so did that today. Something that was to be so simple has mushroomed with places for people to stay and meals. Had to get forms to send to my brother so he could release ownership of my vehicles. Then worked on FB Marketplace ad for camper. I never do that much in one day! Did enjoy a much needed calm down call from my BFF.

Think I'll call it a day - time to shut the doors and windows against the chill.

Got results of my antigen test and was disappointed to find out I have 0 antigens to COVID, which means I got the two shots, and they did not work. This has been written about a bit in newspapers, but basically the cure for some blood diseases damages the immune system affected by B-cells. I knew that one of the drugs I took 18 months ago is on the list of a handful of drugs that cause this problem. Also, CLL develops from overactive B-cells, so the newer targeted treatment attacks the B-cells, and you need B-cells for immunity, although there is some immunity from t-cells, but those cannot be tested for. Basically, it is the disease itself and the treatments that cause the lack of immune response to COVID-19. Getting a third shot is also not likely to help.

The good news is that there is research on this problem that may result in a solution. In the meantime, I will have to act like a person who is un-vaccinated and continue to wear masks in public and be careful who I hang around with, etc. So, the more other people who are vaccinated, the better off I am! And luckily, almost everyone in my family is vaccinated with the exception of the youngest grandchild who will not be 12 until August. Other good news is that my platelets have been low for three years and now are in the normal range! Yea, for platelets!

It is not likely to affect other types of cancers, by the way, unless the person is currently going through chemotherapy.

I tried to take care of some estate business today and found out I needed a Medallion signature on the papers. I had never head of such a thing. I went to two banks in Abbeville and they don't do that so went to one in Lafayette. They do that but the guy I needed to talk to wasn't in. He is suppose to call me tomorrow. They make every thing so hard. I tried to activate a new gas card yesterday. I tried to log in to the web site the paper work listed. 15 accounts came up for Chevron but not the one I was looking for. I tried to log into my account but they didn't recognize the user name and password I have written down. I had to call and answer their questions. They wanted my account number. Evidently the account number is on the paper you send in with your payment and not on the rest of the bill. I finally got that done. They send me emails all the time but don't recognize my email.

Barbie, I think they said on the news that your guy won the golf tournament. It's a good thing there are people that like to watch golf because it's like watching paint dry to me.

Judy, sorry about your vaccination. I was hoping I would get results when I went to give blood but my blood count was too low to donate.

Martha, I am so excited that Phil Mickelson won the golf tournament! I think it helps if you actually play the sport for you to get interested in watching that sport. I could care less about most other sports.

Judy, that is disappointing about your lack of Covid antibodies. Just be very careful.

I went thru my medical forms and notes, and made copies of it all.

Have already eaten most of the toffee I bought! It is SO good!

Velda, I agree with you 100%. It definitely is NOT looking good. . .

"Grim western fire season starts much drier than record 2020":
https://www.kcra.com/article/grim-western-fire-season-2021/36521548#

I had been hoping to get in at least one, or maybe two, camping excursions this year. . . but the thought of camping in a bone-dry forest, with uncounted miles of dried-out trees and brush either dying or already dead from heat and lack of rain on all sides, in a mountainous area with only two-lane access in or out, during a critical fire year, at the height of the fire season. . .

. . . is definitely causing me to have second thoughts.

I sure can't blame you Ann! I would feel the same way! I am glad I am relatively safe in the desert here from any real serious fires.
