Warm and muggy Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Warm and muggy Friday

Postby Colliemom » Fri May 21, 2021 6:55 am

Good Morning. Going to be a warm and muggy day today they say. Has been a bit humid past couple days, but cloud cover kept the sun away, so 80 was about as high as we got. Fortunately we don’t see much of this kind of weather here. By next week it’s supposed to cool down again. The nights are in the 50’s, which makes nice sleeping.

Been enjoying reading on what everybody’s up too. Sheila, great news on the eye sight. Martha, we could use a bit of your rain too. O’Sharon, your weather reminds me of when I was out there a few years ago. PA and most of the East were having an above normal hot spell. Tina, Lark sounds like my Molly. Everyday she bugs me when it’s “walking time”. Judy, enjoy your visit with your CA family. Shirl and those of you who have too much lettuce, you can send me some  Have any of you thought about micro gardening. It’s a new concept gaining popularity.

I took my trailer over to the service guy for a good checkup, dewinterizing etc. Took all the stuff out of my storage compartment and went through it the other day. Threw out the water hoses I’ve benn carrying around for 5 years cause those white ones get stiff as boards after awhile. Replaced them with more flexible hoses, not that I have need for a hose, but They are there if I do. Haven’t camped with full hookups since I was out in PA about 4 years ago. Bought some new mesh/vinyl bags through Camping World and now my water hoses, water related stuff and any thing electrical related, including my extra power cord are in two bags. That eliminated two plastic storage bins in my storage area. Got some otber things ready to head out next week and need to get the stuff stored in the basement sorted through and get it ready to load into the trailer when I get it back,

But right now, I am going to take advantage of the cool morning and run the vac. Ned to head to store for a few things too. Nothing much planned for today, other than finishing a sign I am making for camping. Found out how to make a sign post with PVC from a camper, when I was out walking my dogs at my local State park the other day. That’s done, just need a couple things to finish the project.

So have a great day everyone.

Morning Sue, sunny and warm, t-storms coming next week. Sue, think my containers on the balcony are considered micro garden. The balcony temp is always much warmer because it is sheltered. Think the lettuce is finished because of heat. Going to the garden center for a couple sugar snap pea plants. Will try a plant in the lettuce container. I use the sugar peas and sliced cucumbers to scoop/dip guacamole instead of chips. Would rather have chips. :D Best Buy said to back up old IPad before transferring data to new one. I have never done this so tried this morning. Was told not enough iCloud storage but could buy more. Is this another “get your money gimmick” If I lost everything on the IPad It would not be earth shattering because I have important stuff on paper. Friend and I discussed how hard for us to keep up with the constant changes to navigate our lives. I look at the elderly standing in long check out lines at the only two registers with cashiers. I learned to self checkout because I have a big mouth and don’t mind hollering across the store “I need help over here”. Many are too shy or mentally and physically unable to learn. So called progress isn’t always so great. Ok, enough grumbling. Be safe

The rig rocked and rolled all night and will continue all day today. I haven't walked Ty yet and know I have to, but its no fun with gusts possible to 60 mph. I was pleased with the good walk he got before the sun went down yesterday. But yesterday temps were nice. Today high in low 50's and feels like much lower with the winds. And for the next 3 or 4 nights I'll have to unhook water because we'll go below freezing again. I'm becoming a wimp in my older age! I planned to do laundry today but am not sure I even want to do that in this wind. Again, wimp lol

Shirl, I've always used an external device for backup in situations like you're having.

Martha, if you do nachos in the air fryer, I used aluminum foil to keep things less messy and even let it be long enough to come up the sides so I could lift them right out. You have to watch or the cheese will start burning. It's a fine line from all melted to getting crispy but I admit I liked where the cheese had started getting crispy.

Sue I try to change water hoses every year or so after seeing the mold in one from being stored with any moisture still inside. Yuck. It's cheap insurance and takes care of getting harder.

Judy I was giggling reading your trying to keep up with developers. And therein lies why manuals often have a lot of wrong info. Even if they stay out right, one change and there they go. I would have been so frustrated if you. Bit it's funny to read about it.

Off to weather the wind for Ty. I'll do just about anything for him!

Just past noon here. Have been doing a lot of running around all over this morning.

I didn't hear back from my manager about what is happening with the situation there, but did get a text from her wanting to know if I would work at a different location one day next week. I am on the schedule tomorrow with this guy and nothing mentioned about that. And I shouldn't have to move around to other locations to avoid working with this guy. That is BS.

So I wrote up my official resignation and dropped it off at work this morning. My manager was supposed to be there but wasn't so I left it on her desk and sent her a text saying it was there. She called me but I was driving so I didn't answer. I was on my way to Sport Clips to fill out a job application. The manager was there and asked if I could stay to be interviewed, so I did. We had a nice long talk. I was impressed with her and the salon. All they do is men's haircuts, no blow drying or styling (and I get to watch golf on TV all day!). I told her I still needed to make a decision yet over the weekend.

So now I need to call my manager and see what she has to say. I will stay if they let this guy go or send him permanently to another salon. Otherwise I will go to Sport Clips. I have options.

It is still very windy here but much cooler. I stopped for gas and was actually chilly! No complaints about that tho! I can deal with chilly! :D

The saga continues...

I got a call from the GM of Great Clips saying she heard about my resignation and wanted to make me an offer. She said they would like to have me work solely at the Walmart shop from now on. I asked why I have to move to a different salon and not Jaz. She said because he is full-time and I am part-time (due to my shoulder issues. Does that sound like discrimination as well??). I told her I didn't want to work there and wanted to stay where my clients are. I told her I want to still file a discrimination and harassment complaint against Jaz and told her about what Jaz said to me, and she hadn't heard anything about that and sounded surprised. I told her I would think about her offer and get back to her.

Then I called a law office near here that specializes in employee issues including discrimination and harassment. They took my information and will get back to me early next week. I need to find out what my rights are and what my options are.

Then I called my former manager, Kat, and talked to her about it all. She told me that the owner talked to the customer and she downplayed the whole thing just like I thought she would, so they won't do anything to discipline him for that. I guess that is their problem if they want to keep a stylist who verbally abuses his clients. My main concern is how I was treated. Kat is still encouraging me to file a complaint tho and totally believes me about what happened. After talking to her (friend to friend rather than manager/employee), I think I will go along with the offer to move to WM for now. Then I will talk to the lawyer and see what they say about this. I can always decide to go with Sport Clips later. Now I need to call the owner of my shop and tell him I want to file a formal complaint against Jaz (not his real name) and get that done.

I am exhausted!

The rain has finally moved off but the wind is here. It's very windy but not 60 mph. The water has backed up onto my land. I'm just hoping it doesn't top the levee around the pond. I missed the 6:00 weather so don't know what is going on with the river. Hopefully it's falling.

Barbie, what a saga. Glad you have options. I'm just so glad I'm retired. At my last job I had to deal with regional managers that thought they could tell me what to do. I wasn't doing creative accounting to please them so just did my job and ignored them. My boss could tell them why we weren't doing something. Because it took so long to close down the office and move everything to Houston I got transferred from accounting to order service. I had wondered why there were so many wrong invoices and corrections that were coming through. The woman that was doing the invoicing would just process what ever came up. Because I could see the errors and get them corrected before I processed the invoices my new supervisor was amazed at the fewer wrong invoices. I couldn't believe they had let that go on for so long.

I came up through the business world from no computers to having programs written for my job. At first companies didn't want to hire IT people or buy computers and that was a pain. I worked for one company that had a 23 year old kid trying to take care of 4 locations scattered from Houston to Mississippi. You can imagine how much help we were getting.

Beth, I figured I better put some foil in the air fryer if I use it to make nachos. The cheese would end up in the bottom.

Shirl, I'm just stubborn enough to stand in line at Walmart and tell everyone that there were 5 checkers when I went to Super One. lol I will go through the self check out if my son is there to help. I would have gone to Super One today but they don't carry some of the things I wanted. I had 3 things on my list and managed to spend $116.

I just watched the weather and the reason the water isn't going down is because there is a high tide and strong South winds keeping the river from draining. There is an invest in the gulf they are watching that is suppose to go into Texas tomorrow. Here we go again with the tropical storms.

Barbie, before you hire a lawyer, contact this office: https://www.dfeh.ca.gov/employment/. They should help you without your paying for a lawyer.

About 14 years ago, my employer that was contracted with Ford for my services, got fired by Ford. I did not get fired, and was transferred to another contracting agency. The problem was that the system was that Ford paid this lady's company, actually just her because the company had shrunk to almost nothing, and then she paid me. When Ford cancelled her contract, they had paid her for four weeks salary for me. However, this lady who lost her contact with Ford had her business checking account attached by her lawyers, because she owed them money. That meant she had no money to pay me, so I was out four weeks salary!!!! Her idea was that she would pay me $100 a month for some ridiculous number of years--which was not acceptable to me.

So, I contacted what in Michigan was called the Wage and Hour Division of the Michigan Bureau of Employment Relations. Every state has a similar place where people who are forced to work overtime, but not paid for it, for example, or other problems with employers. If the URL I gave you is not the right place in California, they can tell you who to contact. No lawyer is required. They contacted my ex-employer for a better solution, and we had a hearing before a judge--just me and her in an empty courtroom with the judge--no lawyers. She ended up paying me something a lot better--I think something like $400 per month for a much shorter time period.

Made it to Napa late today--horrible traffic. I like driving in the desert in Arizona or New Mexico much better!!

Barbie, the whole thing is insane. From things you've said in the past, there's no way they don't know he's a problem. And, yes, file a formal complaint. It's unfortunate the customer didn't tell the whole story, but just the fact that you had to take over her cut tells it to me. And I agree with Judy... Get a hold of the labor board or whoever in California is the proper authority and save yourself lawyer fees if you can.

And the wind is gone! Ty needed out one last time and I knew I wasn't rocking and rolling, but it's totally gone! And while there will be some wind tomorrow, it won't be anything like yesterday, overnight last night and today. So hopefully I get some things accomplished. Laundry is a must.

Judy, I am just going to get a free consultation and see if they feel I have a case and what my options are, and then I can go thru the state to take action. Thank you for that link.

Last night I opened my bedroom window and had a wonderful breeze blowing thru. I am doing that again tonight. It will be cooler tonight so I may end up closing the window sometime during the night but for now it feels really nice!

There is a fire up in Santa Barbara that someone intentionally set. They got the guy and think he is responsible for other smaller fires in the area in recent weeks. What is wrong with these people??

Had a nice long chat on the phone tonight with my friend Candiss, up in Oregon. We always have so much to talk about!

Have a good night!

We actually had one rolling thunder and scattered rain drops for like 10 min. Every drop here counts. Did my usual Curves then worked a bit on my Total Gym. Got to fight back the "blahs" from the second BP drug, which is known for that side effect.
Barb, good for you for sticking up for yourself! I wonder why they don't fire that guy! You don't need thus stress, hope it's settled soon.
Gotta get up early to get son HS RX and convince him to get up for his chiropractor appointment. His sleep disorder plus RXs make it hard for him to get up, even when he wants to.
Have a good weekend.
