Color - definitely. My hair is normally a kind of mousy-brown color. Combine that with gray and it just makes me look and feel washed out. For a while I spent $$$$ getting it done (and highlighted) professionally. then just decided to experiment a little. First tried auburn - nope, a little too brassy. Finally settled on light golden brown. Covers the gray just fine.

I agree it is your decision. One that has to be kept up. That said, if your gray hair is coarse, it probably will be hard to dye. Mine is and I add something to the hair dye to help the gray hair accept the dye. I found it in one of the beauty stores like Sally's. You just add 20 or so drops to the mixed hair dye and dye as instructed. I always found the over the counter dyes never really covered mine well and this helps, not perfect, but helps. I still can't get the temples to accept the color. Take care. Linda

Decisions, decisions, decisions. Whatever you decide, it's not permanent-pun intended. Color grows out and one can always color tomorrow. It seems as if we all have a different perspective. Thanks goodness. Hate to think we all "think alike." carold

I'm impressed and glad to see most of you gals prefer to "go natural" -- I think a woman has become her true self when she can wear her real color with pride!

I'm of the opinion that our true self comes from inside. You can't always tell a book by it's color or lack of it. Love that there is such a variety of women with different personalities and life views on this forum who speak their mind but aren't judgmental. carold

Wow! such good stuff! Well, I have decided to fore go the color at least for the summer, it dawned on me that swimming pool chlorine and hair color don't mix. So instead I have been buying a few colorful necklaces! And new lipstick!! :D

Do whatever will make YOU feel good. I've died my hair, cut it, grown it, permed it - etc etc. And I hear from people no matter what I do. After cutting it short this past winter, several from this forum didn't like it. Ha, all that matters is if I like it. Now that I permed it - so it's very short and now curly, it's so easy for me while up here in AK - that I can't help but like it - for now. And it doesn't matter what others think (since everyone has been so quiet about it it's easy to guess - hahaha).

My hair changes color on it's own if allowed. When I cut it very short, everyone said in TX - oh, you cut the dye out. LOL, hadn't dyed it in years, but the sun had made it blond - while the roots were still brown.

Speaking of dying, I have thought of going purple or pink or something just for the heck of it - you never know -

So, if you don't like your hair - do something about it - make yourself happy with it and don't care what anyone else thinks.

Personally, L'Oreal is my best friend....I look really washed out with a light color like grey or blonde, and I have a feeling my grey is that ugly type, not the pretty grey that some of you ladies have. I agree that your true self comes from within, someone that is happy with herself just shines! And it doesn't matter what color your hair is, if you're un-happy or ugly inside it's gonna show.

Beth, the teenagers use jello to dye their hair those bright colors....just a thought. Maybe the blueberry color???

Beth, I think the perm looks cute and easy to manage without much fuss. Now as for the blueberry jello...I'm not so sure I'd like that on ya, but it's entirely up to you!

Nahhh! There's enough dye in Jello that it takes a lot of shampoo to wash it out....just think what your insides look like if you eat a lot of it!

I just had to reply to this post LOL

I've had gray hair since I was 16. Not completely gray, just salt and pepper. I colored it for about 5 years but my hair grows so fast it was too costly for me to do it every THREE weeks so I just had her start coloring it lighter and lighter and eventually the color was gone. I get more compliments than negative remarks about my hair. I don't have any desire to color it again so just live with it. I can tell you that it shocks me sometimes when I see myself in the mirror or a picture of me of just how white it is LOL Mind you, I'm in my mid-forties so its pretty shocking LOL My point is that I've had gray hair for so long it isn't anything new to me. I say to go natural if it grows evenly. My sister's hair is only gray on ONE side of her head (salt and pepper on the other) so she colors hers. I would too ha ha

Anyway, I think I posted the picture in my avatar so hopefully you can see it.

Do what you feel is best for you.

I colored the hair about 10-15 years ago and have actually thought about it again. Working at the current place, the large majority of us are retired and of certain or is that uncertain ages. Lots of gray around...some works and some just looks old....Some of the color jobs look like color jobs and some just seem to blend in with the whole person. When I see a 70 year old sandy blond that I think looks as old as the gray haired 59 yr old me....you figure it out.... I think it is a combination of skin tone, hair color and all over shape and style. It is the big picture that gets noticed.....
