Styling Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Styling Thursday

Morning All, I’m so excited, getting a hair cut this morning. It’s been over a year and time to fix this wispy hair. Barbie, love your cozy seating area. Will you sit out there on cool nights? Are there such things as strings of little solar lights to trim your umbrella Karen, I know there are plants that deter deer and maybe a motion light. Very satisfying for me to watch plants grow. Be safe

Rainy day here in Ohio but warm enough that I don't feel the need to wear sox. Sitting at my computer my office has the distinct odor or wet dog. I Have my bag ready for a trip to the library later this morning and the laundry ready for some trips to the basements. I have to gather enough strength to take the steps. Pace myself on that one. Lark and Audrey need their nails trimmed, again. It is so much easier to keep them short than it is to take them down after they have grown out too far. They just don't appreciate the concept. I hear the rain dashing against the windows and the intermittent gusting of the winds and the gnawing of bones from several corners of the room. Rainy days have their own charms.

Good morning ladies!

Shirl, I have a round disc that goes around the umbrella pole that has lights on it. I will probably use the table to eat on and also to do my gourd art for wood burning and carving, etc., stuff that has to be done outside. If I have company, we could sit there too, altho I have more comfy chairs on my deck for lounging on. And then there is the swing on the back patio behind the shed. So lots of sitting areas outside.

Still in bed but just woke up. Hoping I can hook up to the energy and motivation of yesterday. One clean room does not a clean house make (or something like that!). I think today's Deep Cleaning challenge is the living room. I need to get my gourd supplies organized and put in one spot in there. I bought a table top book shelf for my gourd books and magazines so those aren't piled up on the floor now.

My shoulder is doing well with this break in work. Am making sure I am not moving it in ways to strain it but still keep it loose.

Have a good day! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Good morning -

It's overcast but sun is peeking out; predicted to be 82 today.

I had my move-in orientation for the apartment yesterday. Then I picked Monica up from work to go back and measure. The hold up is back ordered doors and paint - plus I think they have to finish the landscaping. My apartment is finished so hoping things arrive and get done sooner than predicted. There's a nice shady corner on the patio for a planter of impatience and begonias due to a support structure. Pleasant surprise. I fear I may overcrowd my workroom :).

Shirl, I have thinning hair and with all that falls out in the shower, I'm surprised there is any left. Tina, after a very inactive winter, you are inspiring me to get off my lazy bum and get moving. Even with short walks, I notice my back and hips are not happy. Sorry about Gus - sounds like a character. Kansas family got my grandson a large dog several years ago. Jacey wouldn't stay home and then couldn't find her way home so she ended up being penned. As she got older, she calmed down and became a house dog. When my granddaughter found a kitten, Jacey took over and they were so cute together. Jacey passed a few weeks ago and the poor cat was lost.

Sue, I loved the birds - Steven and I used to do projects like that. Martha, every time you mention picking up lunch somewhere, I think I should be doing that here with all the new-to-me restaurants in this tourist town. Barbie, cute little area to enjoy the out of doors. Sheila, fun to read of your time back with family!

In just 3 days the fruit trees have changed and more roadside flowers are blooming. Not having lived in this area before, I am just in awe. Kids took me for a ride Sunday and somehow Monica lost her phone. We only stopped in one place by the river where they will be married, but later search turned up nothing. I 'got in trouble' for not texting Alan I was alive Monday with strict orders that I am to do so until she gets a phone. :D

Enjoy your day!

It's a beautiful day. I've done nothing. Well, Ty got a good walk this morning and this afternoon he and I picked up Snickers (the dog that sometimes joins us) and they got a good walk. Snickers mom is thrilled that I get her out while she can't do the walking. I told her I will more often when it's not ridiculously windy. And today is not windy, is sunny, and simply gorgeous. Door and windows open.

Shirl, I'm anticipating that my hair will continue thinning. I just may end up getting a few wigs. A friend of mine now has several and I don't know if anyone has seen her real hair in forever. She swears some are made to not be hot in the summer. My problem is that I get a headache wearing a hat. I can't imagine a wig would be different. And I doubt people would want to see me pulling it off in stores or restaurants lolol. That said, she has adorable wigs and isn't afraid to trim them to make them work the way she wants. And she doesn't get expensive ones. Boy have wigs changed. Used to be you knew if someone wore a cheap one!

My back is handling making the beds and vacuuming better, but I still know it at the end of my work days. I'm hoping I get in somewhat better shape. I knew what I was getting myself into. I could never do it all day like I did years ago when my ex and I owned a motel and almost every Sunday all rooms checked out.

Beth, I checked out a couple of wig sites. Saw a couple exactly like my haircut. I realized I am not satisfied because the model’s face is about 60 yrs younger than mine. It certainly makes a difference. I’m just going to stick to digging in the dirt and not worry about it.

Speaking of ending work days, this has been a rough winter and early spring for me. I find myself getting frustrated at all the things that are closed and the list of things that are broken on my motorhome. And having so many full classes in a row with no free time between semesters, I have been doing a lot of thinking lately. I have felt the stress a lot more this past year, probably because of COVID and all the changes I have had to make in my traveling. I have not been getting enough sleep and have reached the point where I just dread having to grade more papers. I even find myself forgetting that I have done some things and getting frustrated with myself. I will turn 78 in June, so I think I really deserve to retire at 100% finally. (I quit my regular job in 2012 at age 69, but my current teaching is a 50% job, which is a lot for someone my age, I think.)

The short story is that I sent my department chair an email last night telling her that this will be my last semester teaching. I am thankful to this college for treating me well over the past 31 years and enabling me to do a lot of things I would not otherwise be able to do because of the second income. She offered to cut my load down to one class instead of the two I have been teaching for four semesters per year, but I said I really needed a break for at least this summer and would let her know if I wanted to teach a single class next fall.

I am still a little worried that my 401K funds will not last me to my "sell-by date" that has been assigned to me, but I really have to stop or at least slow down substantially, so that is what I am going to do. Since I have my rig paid off, that will help, although I have several big repairs I need to get done this spring. And my 401K account has been doing very well. I will still go to the UK next spring, but I suspect I will have to be a lot more careful with my money.

So, maybe I will have more time for reading books and going for walks. Might even take up a hobby.

Judy, I think you've made a good decision. After the summer off you can consider, or not, the one class. I think you deserve the break, maybe permanently.

I've been unhappy with the quality of meats in most stores for many years. So most meat I buy I cut up and put in stews, soups, etc. This week in the little grocery store in the next town the meats are in a case like the old butcher cases and look fantastic. I bought 2 pork chops. Between these good pork chops and cooking them in my air fryer, I have to say the very best pork chop I've had in years and years. I only partially cooked one and will finish that one tomorrow for dinner. I may be eating more meat this summer.

Shirl, I rarely care much about my hair, unless I get caught in front of a mirror. And I don't own makeup, so how I look is how I look!

Beth, I had to laugh when you wrote you don't do make up. I won't let Steve see me with "bed" hair or without makeup. Lol. My complexion is such that I can't stand me without the stuff bought from the store.

We got lots done today, including an eye appointment for Steve and we both got our first Covid vaccine with the second scheduled For May 20. Tomorrow will be more prepping for the Blessing Sunday.

Good night!

the grocery story in Q has a meat area... love getting meat there for the most part I don't like the way meats are packaged but have to deal with it for the most part...
I planned on stopping at the hospital to see what the best way to get the vaccine was... and they were having a clinic for getting the vaccine at the church next door sent me over telling me that they usually have extra and might be able to do a walk in type thing... so went over explained that I didn't have an appointment he said to come back at 2:30 and I could get in line... so had time to run over to the drugstore to see what the cost of the eye drops would be with insurance.... oh my still in sticker shock just under 200 for the three bottles think I am going to call the center and ask a couple of questions and then probably get their 3 in 1 bottle... so back to the church and go up expecting to be told that the line forms right there if so I would be first in line nope signed me in told me where to go did all that was asked got the shot a pfizer vaccine card and time to return... was sitting waiting out my time when I heard my name as in "mom" looked up and there was #3 daughter she had come to get her vaccine so we visited a few and I left went to the nursery and then to the grocery store I'd bought hamburger the other day. mentioned that I was going to make chili sil mentioned that hamburgers would taste good and it was getting warmer so I decided to make hamburgers but hadn't gotten buns... or tomatoes so back to the store lots of money later .... they had a whirly gig that I got and ice cream was 2 for 7 so got a couple go home and call up to the house to have some one come out and get the groceries tell grandson some needs to go into the freezer go into the trailer and take a nape at 6 go up to the house and there on the counter is the groceries none been put away.. :o so put the ice cream away rest of groceries away and fix supper the hamburgers did taste good
came home and on internet
so that was my some what productive day
Judy that does sound like the best plan perhaps after a time off that one class will sound like a doable if not then enjoy your retirement
shirl I think part of less hair is age... when I was in college I went to a beauty school to get my hair cut the student cut my hair thinned it and I remember the teacher coming back and telling her to do more .... my hair was so thick then all over now it's just thick in the back on top where one would want it??? thin and hate it
you all have a good day

I don't do much with my hair. I just let it grow. I haven't cut my hair in maybe 20 years. It stays about waist length, in the morning I pull it up, braid it, pin it to the top of my head, and I'm good to go.

I used to wear makeup, especially before I retired, but never very much. Back when I was married, when a special occasion would come up I would dress really nice, make sure my bun was bunnier than usual  put on a dab of makeup and I would be ready to go.

When I would come out of the bedroom from getting ready, my [ex] husband would look me up and down like I was a slab of meat, and say:

"Well, look at you. You got yourself all tarted up like a French whore."

LOL. Did I say "ex"?

I went and finished as much of the mowing as I thought I could do without getting the mower stuck again. I had gathered up all the chain I could find to take with me just in case. When I got home I mowed here. We were suppose to get a lot of rain tonight but now they are saying we won't get much.

The new receiver came yesterday and I finally got it set up. I get so aggravated with AT&T's web sites. None of the instructions that came with the receiver bring up what I needed to activate the receiver. They didn't send a return label and I'm just suppose to show up at a UPS pickup and they will take it. That doesn't sound right to me but I didn't have time to mess with it today. As soon as I finished mowing I had to change clothes and head to Lafayette. Our Meetup meal was tonight. We all had boiled crawfish.

Judy, all the problems you had with finding campgrounds because of covid was just too much. Today was our first day without masks and it seemed strange to go in a restaurant with a lot of people.

My hair has alway had some natural curl but now it's mostly just frizzy. The front part is mostly gray but the back is still dark. Beth, I think wearing a wig would feel like wearing a hat too. Hope I don't have to find out. I don't pay a lot of attention to my hair and with the wind we have been having I get a shock when I look in a mirror. The last time I put makeup on I felt like I had a mask on and washed it off. I try to remember to put cream on my face but that doesn't happen too often.

Tina, sorry you lost Gus. He had a much better life with you. One time we had a cat named Boo that was a lot like Gus. There weren't many people that got to see Boo or it was an accident on his part. Some of my cats are in the 15 year old range. It's hard to believe they are that old.

Sheila, glad you were able together your first shot. I need to try to convince my son to get the shots. He's afraid they will make his skin break out but I think he should take the chance. Being in the hospital would be way worse.

Anne, ex husbands are in a class by them selves. I pulled a muscle in my abdomen having to move a house full of stuff with no help when I was pregnant. It took me forever to get over that. It didn't bother him at all for me to have to mow the yard with a push mower while he laid on the sofa drinking beer. I should have let the grass grow until the city fined us.

Enjoying my visit from my friend. She is only here until Saturday but still so good to be able for her to finally see my house now. Her house is lovely and I love staying with her when I go down there and we have lots of laughs.

When I retired I decided I would never go back. I would enjoy my retirement. Now I have needed to make some spending changes but I made sure everything was paid off before I retired. I used to spend more than I should as I knew every Friday I would be replacing that money. Now is a little different, I think twice before being frivolous. I have not regretted my decision to retire. I love not having to be anywhere at any specific time. Some friends have suggested I should volunteer at the local hospitals............what???? volunteer??. The problem is they would expect me to show up..........nah I did keep many of my nursing licenses just in case I was bored in retirement. HA HA that hasnt happened yet. I might be a little bored occasionally but quickly passes. I finally let all my licenses go and haven't regretted it for a minute.

Martha they have a contract with UPS and you just take the receiver in there, dont box it up because they just unbox it. Be sure and get a receipt and save it, ya just never know. I have taken many back. First time I boxed it up all neat and tidy LOL they promptly tore off all the tape, entered it in the computer, and gave me my box back ha ha

Irmi I think if Steve needs an eye appointment you might be safe in the mornings HA HA Heck I used to wear makeup every day. I even wore grown up clothes on occasion as opposed to scrubs. How things have changed. I have always had dumb hair. Very fine and limp LOL I am sure it has gotten thinner but I just dont have the energy to worry about it too much. As long as it is clean and brushed I am good ha ha

Well time for more coffee and start my day.

I was pretty scared of retiring. Partly the money angle, but mostly the looming, overwhelming thought of the numberless, too-empty days. I finally took the plunge with great trepidation. LOL, I have never looked back. I LOVE being retired. Do what I want, when I want, as much as I want. It doesn't get much better than that. ;)

I, too, have had it suggested to me that I should "volunteer". Criminy, what ever for? As you say, I would be expected to show up. Rather not, thanks!
