Mixed bag Monday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Mixed bag Monday

Postby Colliemom » Mon Apr 26, 2021 8:15 am

Good Morning everyone. I’m calling this a mixed bag Monday because our weather is supposed to be a bit of everything from snow to mix to rain and varying temps. But at least the crazy wind of yesterday is gone. Was a cold sharp wind, gusting up to 25 mph. Had to bundle up on our walks. But it turned into a beautiful day and by evening, the wind had dropped down. From what I have been reading on here, it’s windy everywhere.

Been busy these past few days around here. Mostly running around town to garden centers, Lowe’s etc., gathering up stuff to start outside landscaping improvements. Have mulch for a couple trees in my garage along with some lawn edging stones and weed control fabric. That is for a project around my flagpole. Still need to get the mulch for that yet. Am looking for some things to decorate around it when everything else is in place. Have the old wood ladder to mount on the garage, but need some vinyl siding clips to hang it up with. Saw some other neat looking flowerbed fence that I want for the back edge of my flowerbed alongside the house. Now need some cooperation from mom nature and this week isn’t looking good. But we need rain badly.

It has been so dry here that the state issued a no burn ban. However, the U.S. Forest Service, being the federal government and doing what they want on their lands, decided on Friday to do a controlled burn in the National Forest about 50 miles from here. Never mind drought conditions and gusty winds. Well, the fire got out of control, burned over 6,000 acres and caused the evacuation of a subdivision before they finally got it contained  Thry do tbese controlled burns to clear out the dead fall and scrubby undergrowth in the forests to keep down the chances of wildfires starting, animal and bird habitat, but sometimes things don’t go as planned. Some times common sense gets lost too.

Tina, congrats the great dog show weekend and Happy Birthday too. O’Sharon, sorry, but more crappy weather heading your way. Hope you get to feeling better too. Peggy I assume is probably busy in her yard with flowers and garden. Shelia, glad to made it home safely. Barbie, careful with that shoulder. Beth, enjoy your free time while you have it. Martha, sometimes those small tornadoes touch down and leave so fast there’s no time for a warning much less showing up on radar. That happened a couple miles below me a couple years ago.

I finally finished by bird projects. Just need to spray some waterproofing finish on them.Tbe robin is actually two shades of brown, but the overhead lighting makes part look kind of whiteish. So guess I will get moving here. Not sure where today is going to go as I contemplated going to Traverse City, but with weather forecast, guess not. Maybe I’ll go to Lowe’s and get the landscape fence.

Cool Monday morning

Postby BarbaraRose » Mon Apr 26, 2021 8:23 am

I have been awake since 4am with indigestion. From the fried rice I finished off last night. Been sitting up playing on my phone waiting for it to go away. Took some Mylanta and it is better but not gone. Sun is coming up and the birds are singing. Well, good thing I don't have to be up early for anything.

After getting my hair cut the other day, all the frosting was gone and my hair is almost black now. Getting darker all the time. I don't like it since it really washes out my already pale face. So I decided to try and frost it last night. I was able to pull it thru the cap with my right arm only so I didn't have to strain my left arm at all. It turned out really nice and I am very happy with the much lighter results.

Got a few things done around here yesterday. Not enough but will start in again today. I signed up for the "Deep Cleaning Challenge" with my on-line decluttering group which starts today. One project each day until Friday. I think today will be cleaning off night stands and surrounding areas in the bedroom. I have lots of books and things to clear off. Should deal with my laundry while I am at it. Need to do small, light loads tho, so the basket isn't very heavy to carry.

Nice cool breeze coming thru my bedroom window all night. Supposed to get some rain later. We'll see...

Beth, hope the winds calm down there too. Are you liking it there so far?

Tina, congrats on the wins at the dog show!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Nice job with those birds, Sue. Wow!

Barbie, without the winds yes. Ours were steady at 30 plus mph. I don't know what the gusts are. I haven't looked this morning but I woke several times to the rocking and rolling and am doing that now.

Off to get Ty out then go to work. I think I'll take a load of laundry down which means I'll drive. Good excuse to not walk in this, eh?

Happy Monday!

Good morning Sue, Barbie, and Beth and all who follow from sunny but chilly Hartford.
Yes Sue, I am busy laying down three yards of pine mulch on my gardens. It’s a lot of work, but it’s the only way I can keep ahead of the grass and little seedlings I don’t want. Even with the mulch it is a losing battle and my gardens are always a work in progress. Enjoy today. Peggy

Afternoon All, I think I lost a day. Been busy trying to keep up with the weather too. Sunny and nice no just kidding frost tonight, cover the plants, uncover the plants it’s too hot, wind gust just blew the little plants out of the raised bed, geeezzz Lucky my great grandson saw the pepper plants before he mowed them. Don’t know what else I have been doing but don’t think it was fun or I would have remembered. Having lunch tomorrow with an old old friend from the old neighborhood when our children were young, 50 years ago. We would load our six children in the back of the pickup (when it was legal) and go shopping for our Christmas trees and hot chocolate after. Good times. Tina, Happy Belated Birthday and congratulation for recent shows. Barbie, sending healing wishes, Sandi, your getting gooder and gooder. Everyone be safe

Sue, your birds are pretty. The state park just North of Lake Charles was destroyed by Hurricane Laura. It was very wooded but most of the trees are gone. They decide to do a controlled burn that got out of hand too. I don't think anyone's house burned but there were a lot of people that weren't happy with them. The campground I went to in North Louisiana had damage from the same hurricane. They are still working on cleaning up that park.

I got my Catnip and Caladium bulbs planted yesterday. I put the Caladium bulbs in a pot to see if they will grow then I might replant them somewhere. I had a small cage at the barn that I put over the pot. I called it my creep feeder for kittens when we had kittens. The wire was big enough for kittens to get through but not the big cats so they wouldn't eat the kitten food. My watering can was broken so something else to replace. I thought I had two but can't find another one. I have a list going for Lowe's. I want to get some hooks or something to hang the weed eaters in the old house and get them out of here. If it wasn't so windy I would spray the weeds. It seems like it's never not windy.

Yesterday I think Sugar got into some fire ants. I never did see any on her but she went crazy licking her back foot and throwing herself on the ground. I put her in the shower and bathed her. I didn't know what else to do so gave her a Benadryl tablet and watched her to make sure she wasn't having an allergic reaction. She finally calmed down. Why do these things alway happen on a weekend? I don't see an ant hill in her yard but I put out ant bait. I have had ants get on me when I was mowing.

Shirl, how did we and our kids survive all the things we did before all the laws? We didn't do much traveling with my dad but when we did we would sleep on the shelf under the back window. I don't remember if that had a name. Our favorite playground was a drainage ditch that had snakes, dead animals and would flood when it rained. I was a pretty good swimmer and my brother almost drowned trying to follow me. I had to get him to float on his back to rest and helped him get back to shore. That still scares me when I think about it.

We have another Meetup meal on Thursday so something to look forward to.

My brother had a little yellow coup convertible that didn't not have a backseat but it did have a space behind the seat big enough for me to hide. I 'accompanied' him one night thinking he was going to teen town but he had a date....he did drop me off and didn't tell. We also played outside until dark and sometimes stayed out later to play kick the can. We also had BB gun wars with the kids from the next block. I did loose my gun because of that, I can still see my Daddy breaking it over his knee! Parents would go nuts now if their kids were outdoors without an adult. I heard a podcast from the Wall Street Journal and it was saying how some kids don't want to participate in organized sports when they go back to school. They have been playing games without hovering adults and decided they like it. I've always though a lot of adults get way too involved and carried away at kids games. I have a friend whose DH was banned from Little League games he was so obnoxious.

looking at the temp think I ought to turn the buddy up all the way but when I did that yesterday Shadow got way to close because he can't see that well he bumps into it often maybe I will just get a throw  I will be glad when it warms up
saw the eye dr today and I qualify for the surgery the left eye will be the first one... decided that since I was used to wearing glasses for distance I would just continue doing so hope I made the right decision .... part of me wanted to go with no glasses and reader's but I read lots have a book by the couch that I read in and then when I go to bed another book that I read a couple chapter's in when I do go to bed I hated the thoughts of having to keep up with where the glasses where... they did tell me if I changed my mind to let the know and they would get the different lens the first one is on the 11th the second I don't remember the date but a week later....I can use a type of drop that all three are combined in one but costs 65 dollars for each bottle... going to check with the pharmacy and see which is the cheapest might think of what is most convenient as well ...
that was pretty much my day did stop at a couple of stores...
tomorrow need to go get diesel before it raises here... also want to check with the pharmacy not only about the drops but the vaccine
it rained today!!! we need it won't complain may even snow tomorrow hope not... I prefer rain
I am down to only 11 rows on this latest afghan will be going over to my brother's to as mom puts it babysit for her
not sure of the date either Saturday or Sunday need to double check with them again
sounds like a lot of outside work going on .... it's way too early here for planting anything probably I will put most of my planter's over at moms as that is most likely where I will spend most of my time... it will be different that is for sure
you all have a good day

Sheila, have you ever used one of the coupons to get prescriptions cheaper? They are forever advertising them on TV. I'm not sure how they work. My dog was taking a prescription I had to get at a drug store. The vet printed a RX coupon for me to get it at Walmart for $21. Without the coupon it would have been $50. Maybe your kids know how to do that.

Martha I may have misunderstood but I believe that the one that is 65 dollars is compounded especially for this clinic... so doubt that there would be a coupon... they weren't able to give me costs of the prescription because it hadn't been sent in yet probably by now it has... and when I said each bottle for the 65 it is one bottle for each eye... convenience might be worth it .... we will see

Sheila, the 3 type RX in the mix are: antibiotics (often Moxacillin), a steroid drop, and an anti- inflammatory/pain drug, which acts to reduce pain and swelling. The mix is done by a specialized compounding pharmacy. Here, the cost would have been several hundred dollars. My Dr used 3 separate drugs because he only wanted antibiotic for a week, anti inflammatory 2 weeks and tne steroid a full month. I made a little chart that helped me keep track . Advantage of the combo, is, it's only one bottle to keep track of. Disadvantage of combo is, cost plus if you react badly , you really don't know which you react to and cant stop the problem, because they are mixed. I really didn't find drops an issue. Ask which is covered by insurance because 2 (anti biotics and steroids ) were fully covered, so I only paid $5 copay then paid for the one uncovered drug.

I got a text telling me what the cost of the drugs would be wow!!! so need to go in and see what the cost is using
insurance even though I am disgruntled with paying a penalty for not getting it when I first signed up I am glad that I have it
just hope that when I chose the company I choose wisely
