Saturday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Saturday Morning

Postby Othersharon » Sat Apr 24, 2021 9:30 am

Good morning! The sun is out and although still a bit cool it should warm up a bit. Rain in the forecast for later this afternoon and into tonight so need to get outside today. I went over to Altoona yesterday for the first time in over a year and picked up my refillable 5 lb propane tank. No more throwaway bottles! It was interesting driving through the “strip” and seeing new businesses and closed down places. Ever changing apparently. And it was nice to just have a change of scenery too! The wind was blowing a bit more then I wanted yesterday to be able to work in the yard, at least that’s my story! Today I need to get something done and mow out front for sure! Plus the leaves that still need to be raked up and bagged. Rain forecasted for late this afternoon into the night and morning Sunday so today is my window to get something done out there. Plus I really need to take the pup for a walk but that can happen later today before the rain comes. Martha, hope the storms stayed away from you yesterday. And Barbie, take care of your shoulder. Tina, will be thinking about you this week end. Hope everyone else can enjoy the day and stay safe!

Good morning. I don't get to loll around this morning. I am going to the local Farmers Market to check it out and see what they have. My neighbor Jerry is going with me. Then will hit up a couple of stores on the way home for some more gardening soil and see what else they have. Depending on time, lunch might be in the picture too. Then need to come home and print out my taxes, sign the ones online, and send back to my CPA. I actually am getting a small refund this year....who knew.

I spent All of yesterday afternoon putting that damn filing cabinet together again. This is the hardest project I have ever done. It is really a nice one but the instructions (which were not included, they had to send me some) were terrible, none of the screw packages were labeled with the number that were in the instructions. The wooden parts only 2 things were labeled the rest I just had to try to match up. Then there were the glides. The holes that were pre drilled did not line up between the drawer glides and the base. I spent lots of time screwing and unscrewing, measuring, remeasuring. But after 4 hours it is complete. NEVER again.

Off to the shower to get my act together.

Good morning -

After beautiful days, it's cloudy. :(

Karen, you and I picked hard projects this week! I intended to replace Sling battery last Saturday, but bolts were too tight and I didn't have the right ratchet setup. Nice man at powersports store loosened them for me Tuesday. The battery is as low as you can get on the Sling, terminals not easy to get to - I wasn't expecting that. Had to be a contortionist! While on my knees, I had to lift that 50 lb. battery onto the tray. I hurt the next day!

Thursday I finally took a ride into the main canyon on US 2 . Not having been here in April before, I was amazed at how pretty it is. The apple and pear orchards are blooming - seemed to happen overnight! Hills are greening up and decorated with a yellow flower - part of the sunflower family. And then there are the tulips in yards.

Shirl, your balcony garden is lovely! Irmi, you'll have a nice gathering tomorrow. Velda, I've enjoyed reconnecting with friends and relatives from days gone by. To those with yardwork, more power to you! Sheila, glad you are at your summer place. Beth, looking forward to more photos of Utah - one of my favorite places!

Must see if I can get motivated on this cloudy day. Enjoy!

I only got a half inch of rain last night but the wind twisted some limbs out of the oak tree. I should have taken the Hummingbird feeder down because the wind almost emptied it. It is still windy.

Barbie, take care of your shoulder. Don't be picking up cat litter containers. I have to remind myself to not pick them up with my right arm. I had to quit buying it in buckets and probably should quit buying the cat food for the outside cats in the 40 pound bags. Keep trying to tame the white cat, it takes a long time. I can finally pet the neighbors tom cat. He comes around and upsets my cats. I haven't seen them fighting, just a lot of howling. If I start having to treat abscesses he might go to the clinic too. There are 3 outside cats that follow me when I walk Sugar. They will only go to the edge of the neighbor's land because her cats will attack them if they get too close. They sit on the road and wait for us to come back.

My knees feel better today so will have to walk my mile. I don't think I will go to Lafayette. The traffic is so bad and everyone will be out. I saw on Facebook that there is a fair with rides at the mall. There are so many stores that have closed that they are probably trying to get people to come. When the malls first opened it was fun to walk the halls and shop. Now I would rather just park in front of a store.

Anita, we probably don't need to be picking up 50 pound batteries. When I wanted to change the batteries in my motorhome I wanted the Optima batteries and they are probably almost 50 pounds too. After prior experiences with Auto Zone I didn't want them doing it so I picked up the batteries. I had to put them on my garden cart to move them around.

Afternoon All, sunny this morning so headed to the garden to plant string beans before the afternoon rain. The raised garden is about half an hour from the apartment, I’m not getting much exercise but the Forrester is. Lol. I have eaten so much lettuce and spinach I am starting to get a green complexion. Finally made a hair appointment for next week, back to a pixie cut or whatever they call it nowadays. I’m sure Lisa will be horrified at my chunky chop but we do what we have to do. Traffic is picking up on Ocean Gatrway so will be staying home AGAIN on weekends. I continually search for some other rental closer to family but nothing as nice as this apartment. I laughingly said I would sell my house when someone knocked on my door and my granddaughter did. Said I would sell my rx when someone knocked on my door and a young girl and her dad did. I guess I will live here until someone knocks on my door. I couldn’t have survived without this site. Everyone’s activities give me something to look forward to. So whatever you are doing let us know so we aren’t lonely and it might inspire us to get up off the couch. Be safe

Good afternoon gals!

I couldn't get to sleep last night until about 4:30am. I think there is a nap in my near future!

Watched some YouTube videos on more art techniques for my gourds. One of these days I will be organized enough to actually practice these things! My gourd stuff is still in boxes all over and needs to be reorganized so I can find what I need. I want to get ahold of the lady I met at the art show and see if she will help me learn how to do the wood burning. She is so awesome at that and I have only tried it once and it didn't go very smoothly. Would be nice to get some professional instruction. Especially since I have some spare time right now.

Martha, I only buy the smaller jugs of litter and sometimes get the lightweight clumping litter. Also the food I get for the stray kitties is the 3 or 6 pound bags only. I know my limits when lifting things (usually  ). Is there a way to get an antibiotic for cats to put in their food without an Rx? Just in case it looks like the white kitty gets an abscess.

Anita, that ride thru the green hills with blooming fruit trees sounds wonderful! Bet it smelled really good! Those are the things I miss about spring in MN (that and thunderstorms).

My little table and chairs are gone this morning. Apparently free sounded better to one of my neighbors here. At least it is gone now and I can hopefully get Dave over here to put my new table and umbrella put together soon.

Had my bedroom window open last night and it was calm and cool out. Just a light breeze right now but will get windier tonight thru Monday. Will be around 90 today and tomorrow. Monday will be in the low 70's with the storm system coming in and then heating up during the week with highs near 100 by next weekend. :o

Have a good day! :D

Checked out the Umpqua Valley farmers market. Not too much there yet, lots of lettuce LOL and root veggies. Lots of homemade breads, soaps, hummus, jellies, salsa etc Was fun tho, even if I only bought a cherry, cream cheese, croissant. Will have it later tho as we went to Chens for Chinese food and I am full right now. Also stopped at tractor supply and bought a couple of planter pots (no digging LOL) This cascade cement is super hard to dig in. I still have to plant my Burning bush and my Lilac plant so only 2 more holes.

Sipping on a hot chocolate. Sounded good as it is quite windy and chilly out. Storm coming in they say so probably rain to follow.

Barbie, I have some Amoxicillin capsules a friend got for me in Mexico. I have treated barn cats with it by opening the capsule and putting the powder in a syringe, adding water and giving it to the cat by mouth. I guess the powder could be sprinkled on some food. I don't know any other way to treat a cat you can't catch. I don't think most vets will treat wild cats. The spay and neuter clinic near here knows how to handle wild cats and they will treat one if it's in a live trap.

I talked to my neighbors and they think a small tornado came through here last night. The broken limbs I picked up were green and twisted off. I use to get weather alerts on my phone but didn't get one last night. As much as I hate to listen to the weather radio I guess I need to turn it on.

Had to bring my doctors note to work today. I stopped at Michaels on the way there and picked up a few little things. On the way out to my car, I tripped over a curb I didn't see and I threw my arm out to catch my balance and boy, did that hurt! Luckily, I didn't go down tho.

Told my manager I need to keep to 24 hours or less once I go back to work. Will have to get another letter from my doctor for that.

On the way home I stopped at the mall and picked up some fried rice and Cinnabon rolls for dinner and dessert tonight. I just ordered a side of fried rice but the guy packed so much of it into the small styrofoam box that I have enough for several meals. I mix it with my Yum Yum sauce. :) Then stopped at Hobby Lobby for a couple more things I needed. Forgot to stop at WM to pick up some blank CD's to hang on my deck to discourage the mourning doves from hanging out there. I think they are attracted to the cat food. But they are pooping on the railing and carpeting. I can go out tomorrow for that.

The wind is picking up tonight again. Nice and cool tho. It seems it is either cool and very windy, or hot with no wind.
Will see what this storm system brings. Probably not much rain here tho. Parts of CA are under an extreme drought now.

Hopefully, I can get to sleep at a reasonable time tonight. Maybe the Prednisone is keeping me awake. The other pain med I got makes me sleepy so I will probably take that before heading to bed, I only take a half of those pills.

Martha, When you said the limbs were twisted off your trees, I thought 'tornado' too. An F1 can do that and sometimes those don't show up on radar. Glad it didn't do more damage! I always had my NOAA radio on, back in MN, set to my county and the two counties to the NW and SW of me where the storms came from, since I was living right on the west edge of my county and could get warnings of what was heading my way before it hit my county. If I heard a storm coming in and didn't get a warning signal, I knew I could just enjoy the storm, especially at night.

Karen it seems like you mentioned doing a garden in the future (not sure if I am remembering correctly though) but if you do you might consider doing a raised garden so you don't have to dig into that concrete... seriously though it would make a big difference in your garden... perhaps that is what the rail ties were for and they completed the project...
really another same ol same day.... need to start doing more
I didn't even go up to the house (other than for a shower) my son in law told me that he would be gone most of the day and would hook up my propane when he got home... so assume that dd went with him... and my other dd called as she was on her way to see her son wanted to know if I wanted to go with her didn't really want to go if she was going for a couple of hours might have but for unknown amount didn't really want to..
Anita that really sounds like a great drive... now that you aren't traveling much did you ever go over the Beartooth highway not sure if it's in Idaho or Mt
you all have a good day
