Breezy Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Breezy Friday

Postby BarbaraRose » Fri Apr 23, 2021 12:17 pm

Good morning gals! :D

The winds finally died down overnight and just have a nice breeze out there. They are still talking about a big storm coming in on Monday with lots of rain and snow along the coast and mountains and maybe even reaching us here. Much cooler temps as well.

Did some exercises in bed but need to get up and do some more. Then work on a few small things around here (carefully). My shoulder is feeling a little better from the meds this morning.

My neighbor came by yesterday and said the mangy white kitty looked injured. I found him, and his ear is all bloody. Couldn't get close enough to see how bad it is. I left him a bowl of canned cat food. He lives under the house across the street. I hope he will be OK.

My Wi-Fi still isn't working so will have to call Spectrum and find out what the problem is.

Have a good day and keep planting, painting, or whatever keeps you happy! :)

Wondered who was going to open the morning coffee. This year has sure been screwy for us full-timers or long-timers. I would be willing to bet that after March 15, 2020 to today, at least 70% of my campground reservations have been cancelled, and I had to reschedule. That doesn't mean I haven't been to a lot of great places or found good places to stay, however.

One would think things would be better recently, especially since I am in New Mexico, which of one of the top-vaccinated states. The positivity testing rates here are very low compared to some places and half of all adults have had at least one vaccine shot. However, places you could have dropped in at in the past, are now requiring reservations. And the COE is doing weird things. One of my favorite COE campgrounds at Cochiti Lake is closed. It is huge with sites very spread out. However, not-too-far-away COE Abiquiu Lake is open with equal spread out sites, but requires that you make reservations at least three days in advance--no drop-ins. What does that do other than frustrate campers?

I am at the White Rock Visitor center near Los Alamos, and they have shut down half the sites, so I had to stay at nearby Bandelier National Park last couple of days, where the campground was open. Limited generator times made it hard for me to get work done, especially as my 12 volt computer charger was not working. It is a pretty campground, however. But now I am at the White Rock visitor center RV lot near Los Alamos, but they have blocked off half of the RV slots. (Cost is $20 per night for an electric site in a parking lot, with water and dump station available.) Luckily I pulled in just as a person was leaving. Got water and hooked up, so am going to try to catch up on work today. Had trouble sleeping with my IBS last night, so might even take a nap later today. There is a grocery store right across the street so I may go over there later. Just need a handful of stuff.

I only worked an hour this morning. And that included cleaning the laundry room. Easy day preceding what could be some busy ones. Lots checking in today, with the people already here, it's going to be a busy weekend.

Just tried to walk Ty and the wind about took the rv door out of my hand. We did a shorter walk than he wanted. Since he didn't potty, we'll be doing it again sooner than I want lol

I called over the maintenance guy because when I rebooked my water using the new water regulator hooked up first time yesterday, it kept leaking where connected to the parks supply. He told her to ignore the hand tightening instructions and tighten it more. He did it and no leak. But when I just walked Ty, it was leaking again. Oh well, it's their water so I'm just going to ignore it now as I'll be unhooking it again tonight.

It's more than breezy here, it's howling. The rain is just getting here. The red box on the radar is North of here and the bad storms can stay there. Possie is pacing around. She seems to be the only one that worries about the weather.

I woke up at 4:00 again and couldn't go back to sleep until about 6:00. It felt like I had just gone to sleep and the dog woke me up. I must have had a burst of energy today. I walked a mile and washed two cars. My knees have been bothering me and doing nothing wasn't helping so am trying to walk more. I'll see how that goes. I sprayed the end of the house for mildew so hopefully the rain will wash it off. I should have gotten a ladder to reach higher but I wasn't that ambitious. There is a pressure washer here but I have never used it. I should see what brand it is and see if I can find a manual on line.

The guy that has the land across the road waits until the worst weather to set the brush piles on fire. I'm just glad the smoke was blowing away from me. Everything is so green there isn't much chance of the fire spreading but not a good idea to start a fire and leave.

The other day when I went to the grocery store they had small packages of sliced brisket. I cooked a piece in the air fryer and it's pretty chewy. I need to break down and buy a steak. The store had advertised t-bone steaks on sale but the ones in the case were $3 higher than advertised. I'm starting to see more and more changes in the store that was sold.

I have a paper my son needs to sign so I might go to Lafayette tomorrow. I'll have to see what the weather is doing. The rain should be passed here in the morning.

Martha, one of my favorite steaks is the chuck-eye. Don't confuse this with the tougher chuck steak, however. The chuck-eye is a continuation of a ribeye steak and usually has fantastic marbling. ( It is often called the poor man's ribeye.) Cost is half to two-thirds the price of a ribeye per pound--usually around $5.99 - $7.99 per pound. It is also a smaller steak and just perfect for me, at least, because I cannot eat a huge steak.

Here is an article and photo of a chuck-eye steak: https://www.smokedbbqsource.com/what-is-chuck-eye-steak/

You might have to ask someone if they cut any chuck-eye steaks because sometimes they do not. You can cook them on a grill or in a frying pan on the stove indoors. Like any good steak, however, leave it a bit pink in the middle.

Thanks Judy, I'll have to look for a chuck-eye steak. I don't remember seeing one. I usually buy some ribeye steaks at Sam's and cut them in half. Half a ribeye is enough for me. Sam's has a better grade of meat than the local grocery store and Walmart. I don't eat much beef which I probably should since I have to take iron pills. Cooking for one is just a pain.

I called and made an appointment for an MRI. Can't get in until a week from tomorrow.

I called Spectrum and finally got my wifi working this afternoon. Back on-line! Yay!

I did some cleaning around here and watered my plants outside. I put a free sign on my little table and chairs since I haven't been able to sell them. Just need them gone so I have room for the new set.

The white kitty was outside my bedroom window crying this morning so I put out some wet food for him on the deck but he ran off and never came back. I later put some over by where he lives under the park model across the street. I was hoping he would come up on the deck so I could get a closer look at his injured ear thru the kitchen window. Just want to see if it looks infected.

I made my corn on the cob for dinner. I discovered how to microwave them last year and it is so much easier than boiling them! Tonight I tried one cob with the husk still on and one with removing the husk and wrapping in a wet paper towel. The husk method seems more messy with removing the husk and cutting the cob afterward, and the corn wasn't quite as tender as the one wrapped in wet paper towel. Will keep the latter method in the future.

I was watching TV awhile ago when I saw red flashing lights out front. Took a look and it was a fire truck and ambulance in front of my house and my neighbors house. I ran over to her house and saw her sitting on the floor in her living room. The paramedics came in so I took her dog outside to get out of their way. Luckily, she just lost her balance and fell to the floor and wasn't able to get back up. They got her back up and in the chair before leaving. She wasn't hurt at all. My other neighbor came over too and we told her to call us first if she falls and can't get back up (assuming she isn't hurt), but she said she would rather call 911 and get the "hot firemen" out to help her!

I am supposed to take 2 prednisone pills each morning for 5 days. I just took one this morning and I felt fine all day. I still need to remember to baby my arm and shoulder even if it feels better. And keep doing my exercises.

The wind is supposed to pick up again on Sunday and Monday with 60 mph gusts again. And cool off into the low 70's. That part I like but not the wind and blowing dust and sand.

Good night!
